My areas of opportunity were to improve my leadership effectiveness, specifically to drive team performance. I knew my team was capable of exceptional performance, and I wasn’t tapping into their individual capabilities; essentially, I was using the same approach with each person, rather than individualizing based on understanding their unique behavioral drivers.My Velocity coach challenged me to learn and utilize these individual behavioral drivers and techniques to meet team members where they are, lean into their natural motivations and tendencies, and facilitate an elevated level of engagement and performance. Through the accountability provided by our regular coaching sessions, what was initially uncomfortable actions have now become second nature. She helped me learn and apply all these things which had a domino effect, ultimately raising my level of leadership effectiveness.Now, we all experience the positive impact of this within my team, and the exceptional results are becoming reality at a company level. After sixteen years of leading teams - I realized my leadership style was no longer effective. I was anxious, unfulfilled and angry. My coach Karen helped me realize that some past life events had a hold on me, manifesting negatively in my professional life. Karen helped me identify the events, the significance, the barriers created, and the triggers associated. I was able to acknowledge behavioral patterns, and that provided me the ability to reprogram and rebuild upon my leadership brand. I have always been a leader inside and outside of the workplace. My leadership style has always been to lead by example. However, after several years of managing people, I found that my message wasn’t being received the way I had intended. Through both internal and third-party feedback, I was really struggling to communicate effectively to find a connection with my team and peers. Bottom line, I wasn’t developing my team, or creating the results in our business that I was seeking as a leader.Velocity is amazing! I began my work with Velocity Leadership during the middle of the pandemic in 2020. With all the chaos brought on by COVID, my team scattered around working remotely from home, and an increasingly troublesome level of “burnout” setting in among my team members, it goes without saying that I was in need of some coaching. I needed to find ways to connect with my team members one-on-one and be a resource for them, and I needed to find ways to motivate them and battle the burnout. My leadership style up to that point in my career was a more casual approach that I would sprinkle in as needed, and did not have a lot of structure to it. That approach was not going to cut it given the circumstances.With help from my coach, I was able to implement structure and processes that allowed for regularly-scheduled, impactful one-on-ones with my team members. I was also able to implement a variety of tools to help battle burnout and raise the spirits of the team during weekly meetings. The biggest surprise to me was the outpouring of positive feedback I received from virtually all of my team members around the tools I had implemented. It was clear that the one-on-ones were much appreciated and meaningful to my team members, and our weekly team meetings took on a more positive, upbeat vibe as a result of the tools implemented to combat burnout. That positive vibe is still there and going strong almost four months later, as are my one-on-one coaching sessions with my team members.My coach at Velocity Leadership helped me by asking the right questions and getting me talking. I believe the sign of a great coach is someone who can not only give sound guidance and ideas, but can ask great questions to help me arrive at solutions on my own as well. Additionally, she has helped me create the structure, deadlines, and accountability that I need to be a more effective leader. My coaching sessions with Velocity are upbeat, efficient, and concise, and my coach does a great job providing positive reinforcement and praise anytime I have a “win”.My main goal when I started coaching with Velocity was to make myself a better leader for my team, find new ways to show up for them, and help them grow and thrive. While coaching has had a positive impact on me personally as well, the truly exciting part has been to see the impact that my coaching sessions have had on all of my team members, and how the things we work on during my sessions have bled through into the culture of my team as a whole. What is the biggest benefit you are getting from coaching?I am hearing a different voice with a different viewpoint. Up to this point in my career, I have been on my own with management/leadership issues. I could on occasion ask a peer for their opinion but in the end, it was my decision and mine alone. Now, having a coach, I have been able to expand my thought processes and entertain viewpoints that I never would have considered if on my own.What is the thing you are most proud of?I am proud of the work and proud of my team. They have been active in this process and they all have been willing and very capable participants. I have asked them to look at themselves and they have been very open and willing to dig deep. I believe moving forward this will be a huge benefit for the team and that we will be very successful.

From our initial conversation I knew without a doubt that Karen was the coach for me. She listened to my challenges, what my exit strategy was and why a coach could help me reach my goals. Her response was shockingly spot on. Not only did she listen to my story, she responded with questions that made me stop and re-evaluate where I really was and what I needed to commit to in order to reach my business goals.
