Dont you HATE interruption marketing! Whenever someone I do not know reaches out via a cold call, an email blast, or a LinkedIn connection trying to sell me something all I think is Who are you and howd you get my contact info? I am a recovering engineer w an MBA and for the past 12 years I have worked FT as an independent business and commercial real-estate broker representing owners of businesses with sales between $2-$25M dollars, and the related real estate in Colorado. I love helping an owner figure out if, when, and how to value and sell their business. Im the person who actually turns all their hard work into a payday. But I HATE to interrupt them unless they have some interest in what I do and how I do it. Liz and I worked together over several months on a multi-pronged personal-branding strategy, down to crafting the text and scripts for what I should say in my 1st, 2nd. 3rd emails, call / conversations, note cards, etc. Another thing I HATE is hiring a consultant to tell me what I pretty much already know. Thats not Liz! She got to know me, my strengths, my weaknesses, my blind spot, and my comfort zones. She never said here is my secret sure-fire roadmap to what all great sales people do. Do it and youll be successful too! Here is my invoice. She asked a ton of questions (some I could not answer or even understand at first) and together we got them answered and then developed a prospecting and selling approach that aligned with who I am, and how I think, feel, and act. What I am comfortable with, and what I am just not. Most importantly she got me to slow down, develop a personal connecting over several conversations, and showed me how to just let the owner move things forward (or not) at a pace that worked for them.
