Watch out for this provider! My husband and I had a rough patch, and went to him to get counseling for better communication. He told us to be in a healing separation. Essentially, what it is, is that you separate and stay in different places for extended amount of time (say 1 week or few weeks at a time). He only wanted us to speak when we are in his office.When we are in his office, he does not give us any tools for better communication. He just wasted time by correcting/ fine tuning the schedule. A few weeks later, our relationship is worse than ever, because we havent spoken and we both miss our children. When we told him that his methods are not working, he defended himself, and going into length explanation on how it ought to work. This is all on our dime! $170 per hour, which is very expensive for a counselor. When asked to try other method besides the healing separation, he mentioned how he is a cheaper version of a lawyer, if we were to divorce. Talk about arrogant! He is a counselor that made little effort to work on our actual communication, and he thinks he is doing a great job being a lawyer.We ended up canceling the rest of our appointments, because we found a better counselor that costs much less. It doesnt stop there. I am pretty sure that he is mad that we canceled his appointments, and he reported us to social services. Talk about a vindictive person, that was trying to mess with you, after you cancel him. Social services stop by to check on our home and our children. We actually have a beautiful home. My husband and I do a great job taking care of them. Like I said, we had a rough patch with the arrival of the new baby, that is all. By that time, we are already communicating much better. The children were always cared for very well anyway. So, no issues.Another couple that I know, that used him, and his healing separation method is now divorced. Use this provider at your own risk.

I would hands down recommend Dr. Rumsey and the For The Kids program!!! I honestly feel it would be better if the courts required For The Kids as soon as the divorce becomes non-amicable. I found FTK to be so helpful that I wish it was a proactive tool instead of a last resort.

I am due for a co-parenting session with Dr. Rumsey with the father of my child, whom with I was never married to. I am thoroughly dreading this session, not because I think a session would be in poor taste, but because this absurd program was recommended by a magistrate in Douglas County, whom I otherwise have the utmost respect for. Dr. Rumsey has a flexible schedule but is unwilling to accommodate a full-time working mom with custody 90% of the time - most of which days fall on weekends, where Mr. Rumsey isnt available. He originally agreed to sessions via Skype, so I wouldnt have to interrupt my work day and cancelled them all with less than 12 hours notice. His only suggestions are that I find a sitter, which costs time to find one, money, and takes away precious time in the evening with my son. I live in the state without help from family and suffered a very extensive injury in April, which has led to extraordinary medical expenses. The court system has been very understanding of these irregular and unforeseen events, however Mr. Rumsey has not. I will provide a full review upon the completion of the session I am due to attend, but I hope these negative reviews force the courts to choose a more professional co-parenting counselor and help provide much needed feedback to Mr. Rumsey.
