Heard about this shop for a long time. Decided one day to have my coilovers installed along with a wheel alignment and the very first impression I got was definitely professionalism! I was greeted by Ian and his staff. He gave me a break down of what they would be doing to the very cost for performing the work. The professionalism didn’t stop there. Ian went out of his way to personally deliver some items I ordered to my house!! Definitely a spot to check out if you need anything done to your car!

I honestly could not be happier with the work that was done at P&L Motorsport! Originally I reached out to them just to order me a set of coilovers and have them installed. There was a bunch of other work that I wanted done but some friends had suggested I go to another place. I dropped my car off at the other place in June and it literally sat there for two months. Nothing had gotten doneand it was extremely difficult to get a hold of anyone over there. It was almost like I had to hunt them down just to ask questions or see if any progress was made which it never was so I decided to give P&L a shot. Ian was my point of contact. Not only was he very attentive to detail but he knows a lot about a lot. It was very easy to communicate with him, he had great suggestions and the turnaround time was amazing. They had my car in and out in under four days. FOUR DAYS! And the work was not rushed it came out perfect and professional. I have owned this car for 10 years and it has always been original up until now. I finally decided to make some upgrades and my choice to go with P&L was a good one, because they did such great work Im already looking into other things to do and you better believe the first call I make is going to be them. Brought 2005 OBXT for a Clutch job, seemed to be decently done.Pros: it is a performance subaru shop and staff seems to know their subarus.Mehs: spent $300 more than quoted for some additional work done. Not sure if the rear main seal and shifter seal justified an extra hour of labor…Cons: mechanic rebolted the transmission pinching a vacuum hose that would end up falling off, leading to lean a/f and rough idle. Had to diagnose on a road trip, lucky it wasn’t anything too serious.Will try Sixstar for the next service and compare.

My honest review of P&L is that they’re a shop thats lost its original ethics and quality behind their work. Based off the reviews and what I saw online it seemed like they’re a reputable place, although after a few services I had done by them its obvious to stop doing business with them. My first service was a pro-tune I scheduled to fix an issue where I couldnt go full throttle without my fuel cutting off. To make a long story short I wasn’t given the chance to see the car on the dyno, the car had numbers that were worse than stock, there were charges I wasnt told about and the car still acted as poor as it did before I got the tune. After getting the car back in I was only given an e-tune to fix the issue although I paid full price for a dyno tune. I put that aside and decided to give them another chance and had my car in to check for a hidden oil leak and diagnose a bad cold warmup. I was quoted for a leak which I had just gotten fixed at another shop and even though I asked to only diagnose the issue to the bad cold start they went ahead and charged me for the fix anyways. I told myself well at least they found the issue and fixed it Ill just pay for it and make it easy, but once again the issue wasn’t fixed and the car idles as poorly as it did.

P&L delivered as promised and stands behind their work. Had quite a bit of maintenance done including an alignment. After picking it up I noticed the steering wheel was just slightly off. They were able to fit me in next day to adjust with no issues. Great customer service!!! My Forester XT is driving better than ever thanks to P&L Motorsports. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants quality work and service done to their vehicle. Only place I trust!

Theyre pretty pricey, but they def know what theyre doing. Compared to the competition their pricing is way up there, but they have helped me and a few people out so tremendously with their knowledge that they deserve me coming back for more parts/services.

Honestly this place is one of the best shops I’ve have ever been to. They are customer service friendly and really make you feel like you are valued. I have taken my car here for regular oil changes, tunes, car modifications, and repairs and I have had zero complaints about them. They listen to your issues and offer solutions to help even if they are busy. They recently squeezed me in and moved other appoints around when my car broke down knowing it was my only mode of transportation for work.Keep up the amazing work guys!

Walked into the shop to discuss some simple exhaust mods for my vehicle. Spoke with Paul who told me he would call me later that day with a quote for the job. Two days later, on a Friday, I hadnt heard from anyone, so I called them back. Paul then told me he would have my quote by end of day Monday. Never heard back. Took my business elsewhere!

Had to open a dispute ticket with my bank against them in order to get my money back. They promised a refund through email, but never honored it. After 2 weeks of them ignoring my calls/emails asking about the status of my refund, enough was enough.Sketchy people running this place. Buyers beware, stay away if you value yourself and your earned money.Suckers are welcomed with open arms.

Absolutely love this place! It took a bit longer than expected, but it was well worth the wait. The people working there are very qualified and don’t disappoint. My car feels great and my feedback knock is completely gone.

P&L Motorsports does great work, and they stand behind their work. They tuned my 2006 STI to beyond my expectations. I had them install hood louvers as well, but I sent two photos with different install configurations and I failed to say which way I wanted them installed. They chose differently than I would have and when I brought it up, they said that they would buy a new hood and redo it for me at no cost because they want me to be happy. I drove it around for a while and still havent taken them up on their offer because it was me who provided two photos, not one. I do get a lot of compliments on the louvers just the way they are!

Had an appointment with P&L on a Monday at 10 am. I had to drive down there from Madison WI. about 2 hours. 10 min before we get there they call and say Jr is not here and can we reschedule. Get to the shop and talk about rescheduling a time to get my car tuned. We decided that he may come in and so we waited. I was there to get a tune and an alignment. We got the alignment done and waited for Jr. then we waited some more. So we ended up getting a hotel over night and we scheduled an appointment for the next day at 8 am for my tune. We get up and are at the shop at 8 am and were the first people there. After we get in they tell us that Jr is still not there. So we wait and wait some more. Finally around 12 on Tuesday he shows up. I get asked when I would like it done, because we they had other appointment that day scheduled. I said i want to be done first because I had an appointment for yesterday. seemed to be fair. So finally get the car tuned and sounds good. Feeling excited about the car, I go to pay the bill. There is no discount, no free t shirt and they charged me an extra $50 to remove my front bumper with out authorizing the payment with me. The one thing they did do was pay $90 for my $100 hotel. Just a really bad experience. So we finally get home around 8 pm on Tuesday missing 2 days of work instead of one and not even having a fun time. After I get home I smell some thing weird so I look around my car and find that when they took my bumper off, they never reattached my wheel lining and my tires burnt a hole throw both of them. I called back and they told me they would order some and put them on for me but I would have to go back down there. They ended up buying me some and I put them on my self.After my tune I started experiencing some cold idle issues. I tried contacting Jr and took a while to get back to me and we ended up not finding a solution. not sure what the problem is but I am going to take it some where else soon. Just very disappointed in the whole experience.

Made my daily driver into a little rocket ship. I have a 2013 STI and had always panned on modifying since buying it new. I did my research and was told over and over again that P&L was the best shop to get major horsepower gains. I asked them to build me an engine that got me to at least 450 hp and was robust enough for me to beat on it as my daily driver. They put together several options and were able to explain it to me where everything made sense. I had my engine completely modified, got my 450whp and have had little issues over the past 25K miles. When I do have a problem they are quick to diagnose it and get my car back to humming. Great job to Paul and the P&L family. I recommend this shop to anyone serious about big power and performance.

I had another great experience at p&ls this past week,i was there for a turbo upgrade and 93 and e85 tune. I have a 04 forester xt and have been coming to p&l since 2005 and honestly have never had anything negative to say about them.From Paul the owner to Jorge and Junior the tuners as well as the rest of their staff from 2005-20 have been great professionals.I see some people have had negative things to say about p&l but I find it hard to believe p&l did not try to work out the problem with them be it sales,tune or parts etc.Have I been to other shops,yeah sixstarmotorsports,grd tuning,but I always made my way back to p&l to get the job done right.Yeah that Paul Szuba.he is the (GODFATHER) of Subaru motorsports. One word to describe this establishment is LAZY. I took my mazdaspeed6 in to be dyno-tuned after modding the vehicle extensively. Got a call later that day saying they were concerned that all 4 wheels were not spinning on the dyno but regardless they tuned my vehicle. When I arrive the sales staff starts explaining that my car was running rough and could barely idle as if I didnt know putting a 3 intake would affect performance and air fuel ratios. They stated they fixed that and when I asked for my dyno results they were pushing me to not have it as the graph wasnt nice and clean because my left rear wheel wasnt spinning on the dyno.Upon leaving I felt no difference in the cars performance and tried to explain to the staff. From there the story morphed into my wastegate being the issue causing boost spikes yet they confirmed my wastegate was operating correctly and with a 3 exhaust its doubtful that was the issue. Along with being told I need an external wastegate setup I was informed I needed a front mount which would somehow effect the tunability?I speculate all the did to tune my car was copy and paste files from previously tuned vehicles with similar mods and pushed it out the door. I went back the next day and got my dyno results and they managed to get 130hp and 150tq out of a heavily modified mazdaspeed 6 while factory specs seem to get 270 hp and tq (to the crank). Needless to say I will not be taking my vehicle back for a proper tune. This shop doesnt want a challenge so dont give them one.

Great experience! Excellent communication throughout the process. Kathy called and sent emails to keep me posted on the progress of my Sti. P&L delivered as promised, at a great price, and everything was on schedule. Junior did an amazing job with the tune. Car feels amazing! I noticed a lot of -1.4 knock with the Cobb stock tune (Stage 1). Now, not only does the car feel super smooth and fast on the flex fuel tune, but theres absolutely no knock. The whole experience was fantastic and I plan on going back to P&L for all other future car mods.

Paul and the team there are awesome and super knowledgeable. Went there for a dyno tune. Was treated with kindness and professionalism. Shop/Facility looks small from the outside, but dont be fooled. Snowflakes proceed with caution.THIS IS A CAR SHOP RUN BY CAR GUYS. I hate when “picky customers” bash small businesses for being passionate. If you want amazing customer service go to Fields in Northbrook. If you want car guys to look at your car look no further than P&L. This is the only shop allowed to touch my sports car after a couple unsavory incidents at other shops. Paul and the gang are busy at work fixing cars not responding to dumb quote requests and hypothetical builds. Show them respect and they will do the same. Be patient as this shop is extremely busy. I have never been disappointed. They rock. Keep being awesome!

Where to start.. great experience. I had some terrible tuners and bad parts. They fixed everything for a good rate, installed what I wanted, worked with me trying to get this intercooler fixed from the other shop which made me loose my spot.. HOWEVER, these guys made sure I got tuned. They had the thing on the rollers at midnight the next day. Even sent me a video so I can see. What a great experience, and I know if I run into problems, they got me. Customer service was perfect. Kathy hooked me up and did a wonderful job. Would recommend.

My son brought his 02 WRX in to have an engine issue diagnosed and repaired. They ran some test and determined that “they needed to dig into it further to see what was wrong”They then pulled the motor out, then called us and said it was blown up(which it obviously was, it had a hole in the number three cylinder) Then they said they could put a used engine in it. We agreed and then they called back and said they don’t o stall used engines and it needed a forged, special order block for $8000+.Needless to say, we told them we were having it towed elsewhere. When my son went it to settle the bill, it came to $1172.05!!!!!I understand labor to diagnose was $180 for compression tests, etc, but 8 hours labor to pull the motor is unexceptionable. Plus, who has to pull a motor to see it’s bad???The shop where it went to(their main competitor) and other shops I asked only charge 10-12 hours to remove AND install.So I guess if you don’t want to spend the big bucks and call them out by taking your car, they overcharge you. Poor customer service by telling my son that they can put a used motor in it and then AFTER the motor is out saying they don’t and the only option is to spend over $8k. He’s 18 years old and spending that kinda money on a car that didn’t even cost that much is not financially smart . It’s a daily driven car with over 100k miles, not a damn race car.

I had my Subaru first tuned by P&L and then later a new clutch, BOV, and intake done as well as my coolant flushed. All jobs were performed with great attention to detail and in a timely manner. Great shop and I plan to revisit for work next time.

Everything I recommend from them. I had called to make an appointment for that JR tune and they scheduled me in quick I would say. dropped it off on a friday for them to do the flexfuel kit along with a fuel pressure regulator. Had the car back monday after the tune and OMG let me tell you.....the tune was a night and day difference. these guys at P&L are amazing Zac helped me out and answered questions Ive had. Hes super friendly and great with customers.JR did his magic with the tune. Such a nice guy also great tuner real friendly came out of his way to introduce himself to me my cousin and my wife. I love this place will be back soon for a re-tune with a bigger turbo for sure!!! you guys are great!!!

Had a wonderful experience with P&L. The communication between the different personnel I had dealt with during my cars stay at P&L was always seamless, timely, and professional! They took the time to listen to my explanation of the problem my car was experiencing. I really felt like I was treated as a customer should be treated.Will I be going back to P&L? I cant speak to their engine building or tuning work, but for repairs and routine maintenance, I had a poor experience bringing my WRX to P&L. A year after being serviced by them, I found out at a different shop that P&L used what looked to be JB Weld to cover up a hole which they had told me up front they were using blocking plates for. I also found out that my intake snorkus had been removed and not replaced, and that P&L missed several service items that a basic road test/glance on a lift would expose. The only issue they flagged was a tiny leak at the shifter rod seal which multiple independent shops (and dealer) have since said is not a concern. The gentleman in the front office wasnt easy to work with either. I suppose if youre doing a high-dollar, 500+ hp build theyll be nice to you, but the way they handled the basics didnt inspire confidence.

This is the only shop I trust with my Subaru. Paul, Kathy and Ty are great to work with and delivered everything as promised. Customer for life.

Ive been using P&L from their days at their old shop and followed them to their new one in Lisle. P&L is a complete one stop shop for any of my Subaru needs. Tuning (by the renowned tuner Jr), part ordering/installation, and all the fabrication work they do for their products. Ive had 4 exhausts from them (owned 4 different Subarus) and all of them have been perfect. Theyve helped me immensely at a moments notice when my car wouldnt start and had to get towed to the shop. I like to add this as well because it seems very few businesses are, but they are a military/veteran friendly establishment. Paul and Kathy have gone out of their way for me and will forever be a loyal customer. Dont hesitate to use P&L. Only place Ill bring my Subaru to

Had to go through a pretty dense rebuild after blowing the motor in my 12 wrx. I ordered a race-oriented closed deck short block engine from IAG and needed someone to build it as reliably as possible. Not only does P&L have a ton of experience installing all sorts of race-oriented shortblocks, but they also knew everything else I would need to have the car running more reliably, which was my number one concern.The total mount of money I spent on labor vs parts was about 1:4, so I think they offer a pretty damn good value too. Not to mention, they offer lower hourly labor than a Subaru dealership which is well worth it considering these guys will know how to build an engine 10x better than your average Subaru technician.Last thing I wanna mention is about the guy running the show, Paul. Super cool guy, very chill and down to earth. I must have called him 3 times a week every week for a month blowing him up with all sorts of questions and he was always glad to help.

Went here with my 2003 WRX for a transmission rebuild and refresh of all the supporting mounts/bushings related to the shifter and transmission. They did an excellent job on it, Im now over 5,000 miles on it and its been fantastic since. They kept me up to date with any issues and delays and did the job at a very fair price. I will be contacting them shortly for more work.

I have a mazdaspeed3, I love driving my car,I left my car here around 7 times(I forgot the counting),not even once I thought to myself that its not in good hands.In all this time you can imagine that I started knowing the guys at the office, which will lead me to my next thing...customer service, I dont know how to break it to you but I never had any problems with them, as for the pricing theyre rate is 120$ per hour, for some is pricey for some is ok,if you can afford performance parts,why not afford a good mechanic,as for junior barrios the pro Cobb runner, if Im not mistaken this guy is one of the best in the industry, that being said, I for one, am very pleased with them(nobodys perfect most definitely they made mistakes,no shop is perfect)

Great experience every time, all workers really put in an effort to get to know you and help you figure out best options for your needs. I am only giving my rating of two stars on behalf of Jr. Jr tuned my car and I was more then happy with the results given, he talked to me on a personal level and told me where improvements can be made and etc. However P&L Motorsports its self I was highly disappointed. When I arrived to get my vehicle tuned there was another gentle man that walked in the same time I had. They double booked the tuning appointment then said I was wrong and that this was the other guys appointment. So then I showed them the confirmation email I received stating my Time I was suppose to have my car tuned. They didnt care at all I had to wait for almost 4 hours. Then when I got my large bill, I asked is there anything you can do for the fact I had to wait and call off work they told me no. I payed my bill and walked out I will not return. Horrible customer service.

Kathy and the crew took excellent care of me and my brand new Forester XT with new springs, exhaust, anti-sway bar, and access port tune. Courteous, knowledgeable, I will definitely be back.

I started going to P&L MotorSports back in Aug of 2015.The entire staff at P&L is awesome! From the people at the front desk to the last guy in the shop sitting on the Dyno turning out some damn nice HP cars on their AWD Dyno. Everyone is always super helpful and they go up and out of there way to help me and my STI out.My first visit was for 2 dyno tunes. One tune on 93oct and one on E85. Both tunes are flawless and really woke my STI up and made me fall back in love again with my car. After the excellent support for the tunes I new this was THE SHOP for me to continue bringing my car to. Now I visit monthly for all my preventive maintenance needs for my car. I recently had brakes done as well. Pads, rotors and new fluid. They always do A++++ work and I never leave unhappy.Thanks for great work guys!

Ordered a part on the 19th and a week and half later called for an update on tracking and was givin a tracking # that was just printed from a label made that day on the 28th.Was told I would have it by the 27th witch still was a long time out, Waste of time and money and was forced to go to another vendor. Never was offered a refund and once I asked was told I would get it but still no refund what a surprise.What a joke all the way aroundThanks for nothing

Horrible experience with a tune. Tuner was arrogant and charged me $600 for a copy/pasted tune. Car wouldnt start in the winter and I got no support after the fact. Stay away.
