Over the years Ive heard a ton of great things about Jiu Jitsu.I began looking around I quickly found that Gracie Barra Libertyville was one of the best places in the area. Im 48 years old so was a little nervous stepping out on the mat. I couldnt have found a more welcoming place. Professor Jamil and Coach Scott primarily lead the training the time slots I attend. Both are great instructors. In six months, Ive learned a ton, got in great shape, and met some of the nicest people. Im enjoying competing for the team and having a ton of fun. The higher belts are always willing to challenge and help the lower belts to make them better. People drive a long way to train here....glad I found out why.
It is a far commute but this place is definitely worth it. The coaches and professor here are all amazing. My son use to be shy and timid. After coming here my didnt just learn a new sport but has also gained confidence and has made friends here. Thank you for all that you have done for my kid. .
Coach Scott and all the staff have been great with my boys (ages 3 and 5). They offer a good balance between discipline and fun. The boys genuinely enjoy going to class, get some much needed exercise and feel a great sense of accomplishment after learning new skills.
Great place! Welcoming. Fantastic groupLearn to protect yourself. Gain discipline. Get in tune with your body and a dedicated community
Not just Gracie name. This school is great for me. Ive been to 3 other schools during my training. This has been the best fit for me. Great structure, very much a family. All of the professors are great they listen and have really helped me with my game. Love this place and look to get my kids started here soon.
My 7 years old start going there, and he loves it, he made me to sign up as wellAnd now i love it :-)Very Very professional, and very family like please.Highly recommend.
The best gym within 100 miles. I was a beginner looking for a gym to start out at and they made me feel very welcome. All the coaches and professors take a personal interest in every one of one of their members. Well worth my money and time.
I started training here a few months ago and it has been terrific! Professor Jamil, Professor John, and Coach Scott are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The students have a wide variety of ages and skill levels and I can learn, be pushed, be challenged, and be encouraged depending on how the day on the mats goes. I can’t recommend this gym highly enough!!

I dont take classes here, but I went to buy bjj apparel from them today. They have good gear, and the coach was pretty personable and the place looks pretty nice.
Fine Gym I suppose, but they will get you stuck in a contract. Was a member for half a year. Due to an injury and life events, couldnt participate much and still billed me extra months after cancelling. Not cool. I would avoid doing business here. Plenty of other great locations in the area.
The instructors here are amazing! Very friendly and professional. All around awesome environment.
The instructors here are absolutely amazing, Professor Jamil and Coach Stephan are amazing with kids & families. I recommend them to anyone looking to improve their quality of life.
My kids love Gracie Barra, the professors and coaches. The adult program is awesome.
Professor Jamil and Instructor Stevan have a wealth of Jiu Jitsu knowledge that you wont find anywhere else. I have learned so much from these two guys over years. I am really excited for the future of this school. Their mat space is clean, cushioned and huge besides college wrestling rooms I dont remember ever seeing a facility this expansive. I look forward to getting in some awesome training here.....Osss!!!!
Outstanding facility, dedicated instructors and inclusive of all levels of learning
Initially i was excited to try out jiu jitsu for the first time so I gave this place a shot. Came in and tried out the facility for 1 day and decided to join. I paid $156 for the first month and they said that its a 1 year commitment but that I can cancel anytime... That seemed sketchy to me but I wanted to try out a new sport so I signed anyways... Should have listened to my gut. On my first week, I suffered an ankle injury there and was unable to put any pressure on it. So I did what any logical person would do and canceled to not waste my money. I was nice enough to not even ask for a refund for the initial $156 since I was only there for a week and I got injured. All I asked was for my account to be canceled and no more charges obviously. I trusted them. Well the next month I see that I got charged another $156... So thats $312 for getting injured in their facility. I thought, hmm maybe this was a mistake and they can just refund the extra $156 they werent supposed to Charge. WRONG. They refused to give me the other $156 back. They dont care if you get injured or if you have to move or if you decide you dont have time. When you sign, theyre going to take your money if you like it or not. I will not be suprised if they do it again to me next month. Lastly I would like to say that professor Jamil and all the other trainers there were awesome and nice people. This was not something they did but rather the billing company. If you dont plan on being there for a year however, save yourself the time, stress and money. Dont make the same mistake I made.
If you are thinking of trying classes here, just go ahead and schedule a class. This place is a real gem! I began going to learn some Jiu Jutsu and as a woman, I can say that I have never felt out of place even when I am the only woman there. Prof. Jamil is easy to understand and ensures that your are safe and learning while in his classes. I have learned so much since I started and am actually making friends with class mates (which is nice since I am not from the area originally).Kelly has now started holding Barre classes here also, and they will kick your butt in a good way! She is an excellent teacher who makes sure you have good form in order to get the most out of your class. On top of that, she’s just a very nice person. The facilities are amazing! The mats and restrooms are always clean. The bathroom facilities here are huge with changing areas inside each and showers! I love being able to go to Jiu jitsu and roll around on mats, shower, change back into my day clothes and resume my busy life outside the gym doors as if I hadn’t even sweated that day.I am also told there is still more to come! Since they are brand new, they are still rennovating a space to make a weight room and will soon offer child care!
