We had enrolled our son in a class just prior to COVID-19 restrictions taking effect last year. Over the summer our son was diagnosed with a medical condition that would prevent him from participating in gymnastics due to the risk of severe injury. We contacted RCG to discuss the potential of a refund. Don contacted us and said that due to COVID-19 they were trying to just give everyone credit for a future course, after explaining our son’s condition he agreed to issuing a refund for the amount we paid in October 2020. By December 2020 we hadn’t received a refund or heard from the gym at all and reach back out to Don. He told us that he’d need some more time. We contacted him again on January 14, 2021 and he told us that he would be mailing a check on January 15, 2021. As of today, March 31, 2021 we have not received anything or any contact back from the gym.

We had a birthday party for our 4 year old twins. It was just fantastic! All the kids had so much fun. The staff was practical and helpful, and managed to entertain kids from different ages. We had the golden package which is a little pricy. In my opinion this place exceeds other options in the area and sets a new standard.

Tried very hard to enroll my daughter in gymnastics at red cedar. She was trained at a different gym to level nine with an aa score of 38.75. Red cedar wont even call us back...

First Ill post the positives: its a nice facility with large recreational space for both older aged and younger aged children. Its a good location, and relatively isolated so as to not be too congested. Now for the negatives: This place is viewed by many to be a friendlier and lighter experience than Twistars. In other words, basically a gym class. I took my two daughters here for over a year, and even paid for regular private lessons only to feel like there were no real skills being learned or progress being made. The report cards at the end of each term were a running joke among the parents. From one term to the next several kids actually were downgraded on their report cards based solely on having a different coach. After a full year, a kid could walk in off of the street and be placed in the same class as my child and be doing the same redundant elemental work.Personally, the final catalyst for my family leaving was when my child was injured during class and her coach told her that she had to continue, and wasnt allowed to take a break. My child ended the class badly injured, crying and humiliated. I informed the owner Jamie and she implied that my child must be lying in her recollection of the events, even though the coach initially admitted to my face that she told my child she would hang her by her toes if she didnt continue. The way Jamie approached my measured complaint showed a lack of professional integrity in my opinion. However, we were refunded the remaining tuition fees. For us, safety ALWAYS comes first. Not allowing a child to sit out after an injury, and then making us seem like the problem is outrageous. My daughter is still suffering from her jaw injury. We are moving on to classes at the Michigan Athletic Club.EDIT IN RESPONSE TO THE OWNERS RESPONSE:My child was only in the “Homeschooling” class for a few weeks prior to the above stated accident. Prior to this new class, she spent a year in traditional evening classes. Also, regarding the gyms claim that they did not imply my child fabricated her account - it’s absurd. The coach in question admitted to me when I first confronted her that she told my child she would “hang her by her toes” if she didn’t continue after her injury. She said this to my face. She only changed her story when the owner approached the conversation and insisted that we discuss the events at a later time. It is in fact implied that you don’t believe our recounting of events, because the only option available to us per the owner was to be partially refunded our costs and sent on our way. The only other explanation is that your loyalty is to your staff and reputation over your commitment to quality service.

Red cedar gymnastics is a mixed bag depending on the instructor. The classes are good for young people and females, I wouldnt suggest it for older male beginners. The equipment doesnt looked like its cleaned and even though the student must take of shoes and socks I dont think the floor is cleaned ever.

Preschool Kinder classes are overly repetitive, with the kids doing the exact same routine every week. Both of my girls have gone here, and both got bored a week or tow into their second 8-week session. On top of that, the staff is unfriendly at best and rude at worst. No one says hello when people walk in, and the people who work at the front desk (when there is someone actually there) regularly ignore the parents who are at the front desk to ask questions. Its absolutely terrible customer service. My oldest actually went to a gymnastics gym in the suburbs of Detroit when she was younger, and the experience at that particular gym was so much better than Red Cedar. The bar was set high (no pun intended) by our first exposure to gymnastics, and Red Cedar has failed to live up to it time and again over the past couple of years.

Their director called me back immediately when she knew I had some unhappy experience, I am very appreciative that Ms. Emily told me she loves my daughter, it bothered me for two weeks that I thought she doesnt like my daughter, I am also appreciative that she was not angry with me even if I wrote a negative review for her, she is tolerant and respected. I believe we will have a good experience at RCG.
