We were traveling from MA to TX in our Suburu Forester, towing a trailer full of surfboards, when we began having trouble starting our car. We were bumming big time especially after calling a number of mechanics listed on the web in Lake Charles to no avail. But the next call was answered with this incredibly friendly “Thank you for calling Family Auto, this is Mike” and from there on in Mike and his team took care of us. This was without a doubt the best customer service we’ve ever experienced. They got us in right away, diagnosed the problem, ordered the part to arrive the next day (meanwhile a nearby Suburu dealer said it would take 3 to 5 business days - geez), kept our trailer safe overnight, recommended a place to stay, checked out the rest of our car, and... were just so helpful, friendly and overall awesome. Traveling through Lake Charles just prior New Years day 2020, I encountered a significant repair issue with our car and my family was essentially stranded. We were referred to Mike @ Family Auto by another mechanic who did not have the tools to complete the necessary repairs. Issue was diagnosed quickly, parts received and repairs made within a day at a reasonable cost. Mike and his crew performed magnificently to help my family out of a real jam. We were in a vulnerable position and were treated very well in terms of courtesy, professionalism, mechanical competence and price. Highly recommend!

These guys are the best. Hard to find honest and good people like these guys. Highly recommend you see them for any auto or truck work you won’t regret it.

Great place to take you vehicle for a oil change all the way up to major work. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Thats the only places we take our vehicles.

Had my truck towed to Family Auto because it wouldn’t start. I figured I needed a new starter, and I told them that. It took them 4 days to look at my truck, all to tell me I needed exactly what I told them I probably needed. They then proceeded to charge me over $100 for the diagnosis (they told me it took them 30 minutes to figure out it was the starter), along with a ridiculous amount to fix the starter. On top of the starter, they also told me I needed to replace the anti-freeze, which I had replaced only a month or two prior. I decided to call around other shops in Lake Charles, and found a nation chain garage to fix it for half the price Family Auto quoted. It took this other place an hour to fix it. I’m not sure if it was the out of state license plate that made them feel they could take advantage of me or not, but HIGHLY do not recommend this place.

I had an issue with a prior repair that left me stranded in texas. turned out it was a defective distributor assembly and Daniel and his staff immediately made me whole and backed their warranty. Defective parts are inevitable and something that cannot be controlled. Daniel and his staff provided 5 star service with no questions asked. Best Auto mechanic in Southwest Louisiana and encourage my family and friends to use them.

Very dissatisfied took my car to have a radiator flush. The next day I check my fluids and have to add fluid to the radiator called them asked me to bring it back. I did they called and told me $700 to replace my radiator thats cracked. I didnt let them fix it took my car home and my water pump is leaking too they sure didnt tell me about that. Neither the radiator or the pump were leaking before the radiator flush. I feel ripped off. I paid $300 for them to crack my radiator, mess up my water pump. And my vent line on my transmition was taken off. NOT SATISFIED with there service and would never recommend this business to anyone.

This place ripped me off.It took 3 WHOLE days to replace 2 rear wheel bearings, with a grand total of $1038. This should have been a 3 hour job but it was dragged out for three days, It was a big inconvenience for me because Im not from the area and I dont know anybody to ask for a ride. .I did a little price check on rear wheel bearings and rear wheel bearing seals from 5 different auto parts suppliers, the highest price I found on bearings was $39 this place charged me $128 PER BEARING!! The highest price for wheel bearing seals was $18 the Family Auto Center Lake Charles charged me 40 per seal.I am pretty dissatisfied with the whole experience, I hope you dont get ripped off as well.

I went one day when they were very busy and the mechs were a little stressed out and short with me. But I went another day when they weren’t busy and had a pleasant experience. This place is just okay.

We were brought here thru AAA and we were from Massachusettes. Being out of towners just passing thru driving from Texas back to Mass the truck broke down...Daniel and Mike worked extra hard to get us all fixed and on our way even came and picked us up from hotel because it was late when we broke down. They were friendly and polite... it was so much appreciated! They explained everything and kept me informed on progress and they worked to get us on the road as early as possible the following day...very professional...I would recommend to anyone and everyone!

O Stars, Horrible experience. Paid them to replace a broken brake line, they tried to turn it into a master cylinder job for $1,400+. Told them it doesnt need a master cylinder, paid them to fix the brake line. They said it was ready to pick up but when I went there it wasnt driveable. They kept it another day to bleed the brakes, this time when I went to pick it up they said it isnt driveable - I had to pay them AND have it towed back home.I fixed the brake line myself, works good now, It didnt need a master cylinder!!! They didnt bleed the brakes - they lied about it! They lied about it being fixed!I WANT MY MONEY BACK AND TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE TOW!!!!After speaking with friends about this I was told 3 other horror stories about this place, avoid this place like the plague!

Tried to get a. quote to get my rear transmission seal fixd an he tried to charge me 300 $ for a part dat only cost 6$ so dang how much labor yu charge i would advise any one to go there they over charge yu i got my car fixd for half dat price

Dont come here. Ive had two experiences with this place and both were very unsatisfactory.The first was big job that I was told would take about 2 weeks to repair. That turned into just over a months time. I got a warranty for the job. This comes in the picture in the next part of my review.This may be lengthy but its worth it for anyone considering having a big job done at this establishment.My truck had some trouble a little over a month ago and I ended up having it towed to this establishment because I thought something mechanical deep in the motor had failed. This establishment replaced the head gasket in my truck a few years ago and it was still under warranty.Turns out a valve seat cover gave way and fell into the combustion chamber and messed up the entire engine, the warranty wasnt valid anymore. I needed another engine.I was told on the phone that this would be a pretty expensive job however, we gave them the ok to do that. I was told, emphatically, they could get it done in 10 days. I called and checked on the progress. 10 days turned into 5 weeks, yet again. I am not exaggerating.There were a few other things that needed to be replaced, which I did not know needed to be replaced, so naturally that increased the original quote. That said, the original reason for the truck being there still hadnt been fixed, time frame now is just over a month. The other things were steering mechanisms. Those were done in the final few days it was there.I was told it was ready and came to get it. It was paid, mind you nearly 50% more of the original quote and the time I was without my vehicle was over twice the amount of time I was originally told.The only reason I gave this review 2 stars is because the truck runs great. But the wait time for any serious work is very unacceptable. When businesses dont stand by their quotes, we gave the ok to fix those other mechanical issues but again, they took 3 days. If I was a college student or someone who simply lived alone in Lake Charles and didnt have access to another vehicle to use during that time, I would seriously be in a fix and Im not sure if this establishment even considers that with big jobs like this.I will not be going back. If you need a head gasket replaced or even an engine, do not go to this place. My dad had both done in his truck, two different times (neither done at this establishment), and both times his wait time was less than 2 weeks. It was done when he was told it would be done.We were pretty stuck there with the warranty from the previous trip and it turns out they didnt really honor the warranty very much, if at all.
