I can’t express enough what an amazing experience we had with Russell Fishing Company. The communication during a pandemic, the extremely friendly & helpful guides, the lodging, the wildlife, the FISH! It was something we’ll remember forever & we’re definitely going to be repeat customers! We ended up with 168lbs of fish & we fished for it all. Halibut, Yelloweye, Lingcod, Rockfish, Sockeye, Silvers … we saw Whales, and momma & baby moose everywhere. The moose were swimming in the river next to our boat & right up to our lodge.
Thank you for everything Russell Fishing! The lodging at Eagle Nest, Eagle Head cabins in Soldotna was very nice. Thank you Jerry for your great customer service and accommodation. The Eagle head resort is probably the nicest river front lodge we’ve ever stayed in. The fishing adventures were awesome! I can’t thank your fishing guides enough for all the time and hard work. I have to give them a lot of credit for all the rowing on the drift boats. We should’ve done a fly out fishing trip with you guys too. We would’ve liked to catch a little more salmon. The limited amount of fish we got still came out to a decent amount of weight. The guides worked hard to try and make sure we caught a little more fish. Jordan, Mike, Zach and Austin were awesome to have as our guides. We caught about 50lbs total of fish. The two good size halibuts brought the weight up quick. It was my first time fishing here in Alaska. You can’t be too picky when it’s your first time in the area. My father and I do a lot of fishing in our area and neighboring states. Can’t be a harvester when it comes to fishing. We’re still happy with the fish we caught. The total catch wasn’t as much as a lot of people we went fishing with. It’s not a competition to see who gets more anyway. We came a little early in the season. We fish at trophy fish lakes all the time. We understand where limitations follow with fishing. Getting skunked on sockeye (red) salmon is not the end of the world. Overall, we caught two decent halibuts and two king salmons with the guides in total. My dad caught a king on his birthday with Mike. I’m very happy about that. We will be back next year for sure. I’ll do my best to book the next reservation in the middle of July next year. The half a pound to however big of trout we catch near us is still not as nice as what we at least caught now. The plan is to reach out to you guys in the next few months to get something booked again for 2022. I’ll put the recommendation to folks I know back home to whoever comes out looking for lodging and guides in Alaska. If anybody is reading my review, then please go to Russell Fishing Company for your lodging and guided fishing trips. Thank you again for all the time and hard work you guys have put in.Kevin Abalos
This was our second vacation with Russell Fishing Company, we have had such a wonderful time with this Company. They were very accommodating, we arrived a day early they were able to not only allow us to check into our cabin a day early but they were able to get us on our first charter a day early. What a great company. We had several River trips as well as a couple of Salt trips that produced a few fish. Even though the fish were not biting very well on days, with the expert help of the guides, captains, and not to mention the deck hands we were still able to bring home 80-85 lbs. of different species of fish. We not only enjoyed the fishing charters, but the fly in to Wolverine Creek was not only beautiful but we got to see Mommy Bear and Baby in such a natural environment. I would recommend this to everyone, we were literally fishing with the bears. What an experience. Then there was the unforgettable boat ride over to Chinita Bay to see Bears in their Natural habitat. This Company offers it all, and what a life changing wonderful experience they have all been. We look forward to spending another vacation with Russell Fishing Company. If you are looking for a relaxing fun fishing vacation I would highly recommend this company oh and the Russell Fishing Cabins on the Kasilof River are the best, this is the only place I want to stay when I am in Alaska. I just want to say thank you to everyone in the Company, the Captains, the Guides, The Deck hands, and of course the owners you are all over the top. Thank you again for an amazing vacation. We can hardly wait to do it all over again.
Five star crews (Brian, Zach, Tyler, Skyler, Forest, Badger) EXCEPT one of the Captains and the owner, Justin, five star gears, and accommodation. I really had a great time and brought 100lbs of filleted fish with me to New York. I would have given them 5 star BUT I am giving them 3 star instead because of the two incidents that took place. Russell Fishing Company really needs to address these issues if they want to stay in business.Read with patience please. I am not a rich guy but have a true passion for fishing and having a great time I wanted to do this trip (BTW you dont do this everyday because it is so expensive!!). I booked this trip about 5 months in advance - 7 nights lodging and 6 days of fishing - 2 halibuts, 1 mixed salt, 2 rivers, 1 fly out. I paid over $3,000. Yes $3K. I came back to US from the Philippines to do this trip!!First incident was involving one of the Captains, and also happens to be one of the owners, Justin. He knows his stuff when it comes to fishing, selecting gears, fishing spots etc. However, he has zero people skills. He is arrogant, c***y*, and disrespectful. I arrived on time for my first halibut trip. I was approaching my scheduled boat. Then I was stopped by a lanky and tall guy. He said, you are with me. I said, No, my paper says I am with the other boat. He started arguing with me and at one point, he said, I am the owner, you are welcome to stay on the dock. Oh no, I said to myself. I really did not want to fish with him. I heard same story from other patrons who fished with him in the past. This incident really validated what others said. What it meant, they changed the boat on me without letting me know. Second of all, Justin was showing his bossiness to his customer, its my way or highway without apologizing about the change. It was very disrespectful. At the end, I gobbledmy ego, moved on, and got on his boat. Justin pretty much will put on pressure on you to keep smaller fish rather saying, lets give it another try for bigger halibut. He just does not want to put the effort into it UNLIKE other captains!!Second incident was about missing items from my bags in the lodge. I heard from other patrons in the lodge that they were experiencing someone was going though their bags in their room. I did not believe until I had two missing items from my bags - Apple Airpods and very very cute looking nail cutter, which I brought from the Philippines. At Anchorage airport, I was looking for my Air pods. I couldnt find it. I came home and searched all my bags. It was no where to be found. I also could not find my nail cutter.I contacted the other owner, Jessica about the missing Airpods and experience other patrons were having. No response. May be I dropped in my room. I am almost 100% sure, someone took them from my bags. There is NO lock in the room or safe to put your valuables!!I will definitely come back again if the owners are willing to apologize and compensate for any future trips. I will change my review if they are willing to show me good time again minus the incidents!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had an amazing time with the Russel fishing crew during our week in Alaska! Josie was by far our favorite guide, you could tell he genuinely loved his job and he worked so hard to find us some fish! All of the guides were exceptional at what they do and we had a week of fishing that we will never forget!!
We had the best time on our charter with Pops! We caught the only King that day and got our fill of sockeyes too! The Kasilof River was beautiful and so relaxing. Be sure to ask for Pops, he knows what hes doing and has a few good stories to share!!
We were very impressed with the entire Russell operation. The guides every day were very knowledgeable an professional. The variety of fishing experiences were great. They provide waders an over the calf boots for both men and women women. We didnt, but we strongly recommend you select the all inclusive option for your stay. The lodge we stayed in was totally furnished including full kitchen an large wall mounted TV.
If you are looking for nice accommodations and excellent guides with diverse fishing expertise, this is the place for you. We spent 6 days with Russell and each day was better than the previous. We hit our limit every day but one (weather), and our success was mainly due to the knowledge of the guides. Their boats and gear are top notch; we had zero issues. Cant wait to go back!
They do a wonderful job accommodating you and your crew. Fishing was good. Guides were excellent. Equipment and lodging was top notch. Great value for the service.
Overall, the experience was positive. The 2 guides, river and salt water were very helpful and put us in a position to hook fish. Salt water was the best, 8 halibut (4 people) limited out, in about an hour was fabulous! The river salmon counts were way down, so our experience there was a disappointment. The lodging was ok, clean enough for 4 men. Website listed as being on the water. It wasnt, but rather across the road.
Great experience. Everyone was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. Caught fish and had a great time. Lodge location was awesome!
Every part of our trip was exceptional. All the guides were first class. We were told the eagle head lodge was the nicest on the Kenai and it didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend Russell Fishing.
We use Russell as our exclusive fishing guide service. They have experienced, licensed, safe, mature, guide-employees, do not use sub-contractors, own all their own boats and provide an excellent service. They catch fish and make our guests feel very comfortable. They also provide the highest quality all bait, tackle, gear, equipment, rain gear and even waders if needed. We highly recommend
Another great Alaskan adventure with Russell Fishing! Super service, great guides, boats and lodges are #1. Will definitely return. Thanks
Had a great time! Lodging was comfortable, modern and clean. All the guides and staff were knowledgable, helpful and very friendly.
Top notch outfit, great crew, accomidations, and food. Have been there twice and have referred two other parties that had a similar experience. Will be back!
Outstanding experience. Glenn & Karen are great, good food, & accommodations. Will be going back for more.
World class accomodations at eagle head cabins! It was my two childrens (19 yr male, 12 year female) first time and Russell made it unforgetable. Experienced, knowledgeable guides on all excursions made the most of every trip. Quick itinerary changes on the fly by Glen netted us the most vacation (and fish) for the ever changing seasons/conditions/fishing laws. They truly strive to get you the BEST vacation possible in any situation with a simple can do attitude that is not seen in many other guide setups. Simply, I went with them before, went with them this time and we undoubtedly go with them again.
This was my first Alaskan trip! And it was amazing due to Russells!! Everything is top notch, a bit expensive, but you are getting what you are paying for!!!
Excellence fishingThe facilities are top notchEvery guide especially Glenn made sure they put us on the fishWould rate 10 out of 10Really go the extra step to ensure a superb experienceThe saltwater fishing was also excellentZach is a top notch captain who found the right fishing spots
