Very good experience! All the animal appeared to be very well taken care of. Every staff member we saw had a mask on. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. If you are looking for a new furry family member I highly recommend KC pet project. Robbin helped us finalize everything before we took our new family member home. She was lovely to work with.
Picked up a dog walking along the side of the road late last night. Neither my friend or I could take the dog in so we tried the vet on the rabies tag but they were closed - and closed until Monday. We ended up calling KC Pet Project after hours. Unfortunately they were unable to meet us so we brought in the pup into our garage overnight with food, water and a comfortable mat. We brought the animal to KC Pet Project today in hopes of finding a microchip- sure enough there was one! They connected with the owners and allowed us to take the dog to their owner directly. If the dog did have a chip, they would taken him in, free of charge. Recommend using KC Pet Project for all their services! Thanks!
Me and my fiancé were highly interested in a dog that was brought in and put on stray hold. We were told that we could see her Sunday since she would be pulled off of stray hold then. We were told we could put money down to hold her in the meantime. We don’t live close and wasn’t able to go up there just to put money down so we asked if we could show up when they open Sunday. They told us that she may be in surgery, I am a vet tech and know how long spay surgery’s take I was okay with waiting if that was the case. We called several times about her to make sure no one claimed her yet and verified 3 different times with three different workers and they all said they opened at 9am on Sunday. The staff was also very rude when we had called, we asked about making an appointment time that morning because it was a bit of a drive and they said they don’t do appointments, which is fine but we had told them that we would still be there at 9am to see her and no one had the decency to tell us that I couldn’t see her until after noon and that was still if she wasn’t in surgery at that time. We showed up at 9am with our current dog so they could meet and weren’t able to get in. So we drove a very long distance to see this dog first thing in the morning in hopes of seeing her before her surgery so we could adopt her that day if it did worked out. I would have waited but I brought my personal dog and couldn’t sit in the car for 3 hours or more with her.
Very nice people. Bad situation and did not make me feel anything but concern for the 2 cats 1 m and 1 f. Both flea ridden and one very very thin. Both yellow and white. I hope they make it. 8 and 12 yes old. Fee to help them was minimal. Would recommend to all kcmo residence. Will fix and return to neighbor hood. Thank you so much for your help.
Im about to adopt my second dog from KC Pet Project. They are a wonderful shelter, staff are friendly and informative. They care about assuring pets go home to the best scenario to ensure their success. I adopted my Ryder from them a little over 1 year ago and he was sick and skinny and wounded. Since then hes blossomed into the sweetest, most obedient companion I could have ever asked for. Adoption, especially adopting adult animals, is so so rewarding. I couldnt imagine my life without him, so thank you KCPP for making it possible.
KC Pet Project of KC is a great service. Our dogs found a sweet little dog in our backyard. They are going to give her any medical care she needs and if they cant find her owners well get first shot at adopting her. She is at least 14 yrs. old and may have major health issues if thats the case we can foster her in hospice care. 🤞🤞🤞
I have yet to have a bad experience at any KC Pet Project location. The animals are ALWAYS well taken care of and loved and is exceptional among shelters!! The 2 pets we have adopted from there have been wonderful additions to our tribe!!
You sent 2 guys to my house today, on a complaint. My son moved out, couldnt take his dog. The dog doesnt respond to me. I contacted kc pet a month, but had an injury. Couldnt make it in, to turn her over. You actually helped. These 2 men, were very professional. You should give them employee of the month. If I had a beer, I would have offered it to them. Thank you
The place was very welcoming. I was very impressed on how much work they put in to taking care of these animals. The place was very clean and all the animals looked well taken care of I would definitely recommend this place of looking for an adoption
Very impressed by KCPP. Staff were friendly and professional, even on one of their busiest intake weeks ever. We adopted 2 kittens out of foster care, met them at the main campus and filled out our paperwork, and were done in under an hour start to finish. They made it easy and responded promptly when I had questions about the medical record the following week. We love our new family members and are so grateful that KCPP has figured out how to find homes for thousands of animals every year.
Awesome dog adoption place!! We took home our new nugget Ava today!! The staff was great and helped us match with her perfectly for our family!!
If youre coming with no intention of getting a cute puppy, avoid at all costs. Coming inside will immediately trigger any pet lover into immediate oos and ahs and theres a 93.7% chance you will leave with a new furry friend.Excellent staff, spectacular facility, and the work theyre doing is incredible.
Beautiful campus with lots of friendly staff. Enjoy a cup of coffee while you look!
Very disappointed. We came and completed the paperwork to look at the dogs available. We waited for almost 45 minutes in line only to be told that we had to adopt today and couldnt even look at the dogs. The lady told us not to bother looking if we arent adopting today. We would have possibly adopted but werent even given the chance. My granddaughter was heartbroken. All that needed to be said was if you might not adopt today dont bother waiting. Very bad experience..
It was very difficult because of the reason I was there but as for all the employees and volunteers there they were wonderful especially Ms.Morgan she was so helpful and genuinely concerned and caring so keep up the good work guys !
Adopted my cat from the KC location, and was sent home with my cat and his paper work. Upon getting him home, I noticed he was walking oddly, and seemed in pain. When I got him they told me he was FIV positive. I called the adoption center back about two hours after having him, and asked if he was injured or they forgot to tell me his entire medical history. I was connected to the vet office, where I was informed he also had a healed right back leg injury that left him with some arthritis and muscle atrophy, he required medication for the pain they’d failed to send me home with, and he also had dental disease. The staff has overall been helpful since, but the oversight was very frustrating.
KCPP staff helped me with the TNR process that was new to me. They took great care of the cats /kittens and me. As a result Ill be back to volunteer there.
The staff here are wonderful! We found a dog wandering our neighborhood and it had tags on that had the phone number for KC Pet Project. I brought the dog in, but didnt have a leash, and was struggling to get it into the building. The staff rushed out with a leash to help me and were very kind. The dog is so sweet and I hope their owner is found!!! Thank you KC Pet Project!
As I walked in I was instantly greeted by an associate and they even thanked me for looking. I am very happy to be a part of such a caring project.
New facility is really nice. The folks working to check people in were nice and helpful filling out documentation. Area where you visit with pets of interest was nice and clean. Minus one star as I was a little frustrated that I could not see a number of unclaimed pets shown on the website but labeled not available at the facility.
Looking for a friends lost cat. Staff was very helpful in guiding us through the cat areas to double check even though most pics of sheltered cats were already posted
KC pet project is great. They are exceptionally helpful and want to help as many animals as they can. I had an injured stray that needed more help than I could give him, they took him in without question and they work to help adopt strays as well if possible.
I adopted my sweet pit bull mix, Stella, from KC Pet Project. Everyone in the facility was helpful and kind. They allowed us time to play with Stella in a private gated area, which was nice since I have a small child who I wanted to make sure she would be gentle with. The entire experience was great and the facility was clean. If you are looking to adopt, visit KC Pet Project!
Very helpful an informative staff. The process of adopting animal takes about an hour or so once you get started. Which is nothings to finally take home your furever. Thanks so much for all you guys do an so happy to welcome Fresno home.
Website said we could look at dogs. We drive 40 miles. Check in went smooth. Waited in line for 20 minutes only to be told we had to pick one single dog out from the website to look at. We were under the impression we could view the dogs in person as sometimes a dog finds you. Picking an animal from photos and not having options in person just does not seem to be a fit for us.
This is a great environment for our furry friends. The staff is kind, friendly and knowledgeable and you can see they love animals. The facility is new, clean and comfortable for the cats and dogs. Ive been to both the old and new facilities and Im very pleased with this new facility. I know they are doing all they can to help these animals live happy and healthy lives and find good loving homes.
Amazing good hearted people that just want the best for our little furry friends.
Very nice staff. Mix up on our first choice but very accommodating going forward and we left with a lovely puppy
I entered with a specify dog in mind but as I told the girl what I wanted she urged me to look at a different one. I admit I was a little frustrated because that other dog did not appeal to me. I agreed to meet the recommended dog anyway and I’m so glad I did. Her name was Sailor at the shelter but she is Daisy now. She’s perfect and my other dog loves her. She is the ying to his yang. Thanks to the staff for leading me “a stray” pun intended.
We foster kittens for them. So, we see behind the scenes more than most. The are very helpful and make sure we have all of the supplies we need to care for the kittens. The employees and volunteers obviously love the animals and care for them well. Its an excellent place to adopt a friendly companion.
I love how they care so much at making sure you match the pet. We love our fur baby!
We adopted two cats from KC Pet Project, our beloved Coffee Cake and Pumpkin Spice Latte. We love them! They have given us immense joy. We got Coffee Cake from a kitten party at Whisker’s Cat Cafe in Westport. It was a great event. Trying to get her from the shelter was a little overwhelming and took a long time. I had a long wait and other people went before me even though they came in after, so I would maybe knock off half a star, but couldn’t rationalize a whole star for that. 😅 She settled right into our family, sleeping on our laps when we worked from home. She is a great pet.We got Pumpkin Spice Latte a few months later. My wife saw him and thought he was adorable (which he is.) when we went to go see him he had ringworm and was receiving treatment. We had to wait to take him home until his second test came back negative. We loved how well KC Pet Project handled Pumpkin’s medical issues. They also were up front that he had a nipping issue and explained it had developed because he had had to be isolated during his treatment and had not been able to learn bite inhibition from other kittens. We appreciated their candor and brought him home with full knowledge of what to do. The nipping was a little annoying, but he grew out of it. He did have a few health problems through his kitten stage, but because KC Pet Project was up front with us about how they found him motherless and alone, we felt equipped to handle the situation and know that he may have continued health problems due to a compromise immune system.KC Pet Project fosters even checked in on our cats after we got them. We loved that we were so connected. As a final note, when I went to pick up Coffee Cake to adopt her, I heard someone trying to surrender their cat. An employee who I assume was a behaviorist was doing a great job of helping the family understand how they could make a good home for their cat and what to expect from her as their pet. Whoever he was, he did a great job.Any pet would be lucky to come off the street to an organization so loving and brimming with resources. We are thankful we could bring our cats home from there.
A dog is having a seizure, what should you do? Immediately place the dogs favorite treat at their mouth and nose, the dogs instinct will overpower the effects of the seizure. I am sharing this technique I developed to help those dogs whom suffer from seizures, it works for my friends dog that occasionally suffers from seizures. Your welcome, and please copy, paste and share this helpful tip #wscanineseizureremedytip . This tip should not be a substitute to any medical treatment. - Ward Smith II
The staff is so great and friendly in helping adopt our new fur baby!
They were so kind and understanding. Thank you for letting me talk about my dog.
I came in and filled out adoption papers for a foster dog through KC Pet Project on Tuesday, April 20th after meeting him on Monday, April 19th and talking with the foster parents. My first piece of feedback is the wait time during adoptions. I waited almost two hours to even complete paperwork and be talked with by an admissions counselor after being promised that it would take no longer than an hour. That system can be improved upon surely. After picking up the dog yesterday, April 24th, we wanted to make sure we were able to get him home and comfortable, as he is a 12 year old dog with lots of needs. We were warned about mild resource guarding such as growling, barking and hovering when discussing with the behavior team and also from the foster parents. At 5 PM yesterday, April 24th, the dog lunged at me from 2 to 3 feet away as I was setting down his food and bit my arm for multiple seconds. It left two punctures in my arm just below the wrist. This was immediately a large concern, as we were not warned about this severe type of aggression VERBALLY or in DOCUMENTATION. It was always mild and being aware of resource guarding which we were willing to address, but not to a biting level. That is EXTREME.After the biting occurred, an hour later we took him out to use the restroom and he lunged at my girlfriends arm and was growling at her and attempted to bite her. She did not touch him. This is, yet again, something that was NEVER communicated by the foster parents or staff. We were never warned about any aggressive behaviors outside of resource guarding. It is ABSOLUTELY not acceptable to leave out information like that. When we contacted the foster parents about this behavior, they told us we have been bit before, we must have just forgotten to mention it.THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.EVER.There should be no reason that they do not have documentation of that, especially for a family trying to adopt and give a pet a good life. After surrendering the dog to animal control last night (as he has to serve his mandatory bite quarantine for a skin puncture), we could not be more frustrated. The process was painstakingly long and unprofessional in our opinion. The communication, as expressed, was extremely awful. And as a result, it led to us being AFRAID.Afraid of shelters, afraid of dogs from shelters, afraid of this dog, afraid of introducing him to anyone or taking him anywhere, afraid of PEOPLE.People who we feel we should trust, who we clearly cannot.I cannot express to you how angry and disappointed I am in all of this.I wanted to share this all as an opportunity to improve in many ways and to share my disgust for this entire situation.I hate being this aggressive in tone, but it truly reflects my feelings.
I tried to adopted a kitten and there was a lady there giving me an attitude and not wanting give up the kitten for me to adopt it to a good home. Plus I talked to the manager there, and also he was also rude and refuse me to let me take the kitten home. And I’ve been going there to check up on the kitten so I can get her and to see if she’s okay. But decided to give up the kitten adoption to a lady who have 2 PITBULLS! Right in front of me. So messed up of what they did to me. And the kitten was literally afraid of the world to get adopted into a house with 2 pitbulls. If the employee there don’t like you, they will NOT let you adopt any pets. I’m beyond upset and they deserve -5 stars to be honest.- went there 4 days total-3 times to get paperwork done-3 attempt to pay to adopt-continuously and intentionally lie to me so I can’t Adopt the kitten I’ve been wanting so badly for 4 days.-NEVER RETURNING! Rude people don’t get my business especially my money.
Two wonderful agents was able to get an aggressive (in heat)...stray pitbull. Great Job guys we Thank You.
I cannot say enough about this place. They take excellent care of pets that often come from bad homes. They provide lots of hands on training for new adopters so they can become familiar with the pet they are taking in. They genuinely care about families, the animals, and the outcomes of each of them. The vet clinic is amazing. They have done. A lot of work on our dog for free. All around an excellent place to support by adopting, volunteering, or even donating.
They were amazing.. our experience was very enjoyable. Thank you KC Pet Project!
I had a great experience adopting my cat Kevin here! It is an extremely nice facility and they keep their shelter areas incredibly clean. I had help as soon as I arrived and the employees there were so positive and happy that I adopted. The adoption process was very easy and reasonably priced, but does take a little while since it was so busy when I was there. If you see a cat that you like online, get in ASAP because they go fast!If you are adopting a dog, make sure to give yourself plenty of time before they close. There was a little bit of a line to get in and look at dogs that looked like it was moving slowly.
Staff is very friendly, facility is probably the nicest shelter in the metro. If you are looking to adopt a shelter dog, this is a great first stop!
This is a little upsetting. Needing to give up my moms cat ... my mom is ill in hospital.. but no help aside from numbers to shelters up North where my mom is...smh I live 2 hrs away... I want to do the right thing and surrender to a place I know he will do fine at... instead like a monster and tossing him on the streets smh ... no help.... God bless anyone in my position outside of KCMO.
Bunch of weirdos work there. A time consuming obnoxious way to adopt a pet
Friendly staff who truly cares about animals! They were very helpful when I brought in a stray cat and immediately went to work looking for the cats owner. Im so thankful for the people working in Admissions because you can tell how much they care about their job and the animals.
I got my first cat here last month and I unintentionally went during a free adoption event. I thought they did quite well with people management and assisting me in locating a cat. I ended up only looking at one cat because they helped me find the right one on the first try.I used to be an adoption facilitator volunteer at a different humane society in a different state so Im familiar with the adoption process from that end but this was my first time adopting a pet as an adult. I thought the team did an excellent job at handling a large number of people.Taco is the right cat for me and I will gladly return to KCPP if at any point in the future I decide to appt another pretty
I cant say enough positive things about K C Pet Project. Found a lost little dog, they were so helpful and professional in helping locate the owner. Friendly staff.
Unless you have 3 hours you can waste while you sit around watching complete chaos ensue, dont come here on a Saturday. They arent really clear on how much it costs to adopt, either. My mom found a cat who was on a stray hold. She paid them $50 to hold the cat for 5 days (even though she had no choice). We came back five days later and after sitting around waiting for over two and a half hours, she was asked to pay another $37. No idea why it would cost almost $100 to adopt when everywhere else an adult cat is $50. They gave her a tiny bag of food and a license. Wayside gives you an entire bag of Science Diet and adopting a full sized cat is $50.There was a very rude lady working where the cats are kenneled. She rudely asked us if we were adopting a cat and when I said yes, she sulked away. That said, no one was available to answer questions even though we were the only people looking. One lady was very nice, but it was clear they knew nothing about the animals. The papers they keep by the kennels dont tell you much aside from a name (if they have one), a badly guessed age, whether or not theyre altered and if theyre being treated for an illness. Apparently the yellow sheets mean the cats cant be touched, but you wouldnt know that unless theres actually someone around to inform you.The facility is clean and super fancy, but (at least the cat) staff leaves much to be desired.
My family has been into the main campus several times over the last few weeks looking for the right cat for our household. It’s been hard trying to find a cat that will tolerate my son who’s autistic and while we haven’t found the right fit yet my wife and I were beyond thrilled by the care we received during all of our visits. Our latest visit we brought our son who was having a really off day, once we got to the cat room we were immediately greeted by a staff member who’s name I believe was Jessie she answered any questions we had and went one step further to offer Garret (our son) coloring supplies as well as a couple sensory toys. We may not have left with a cat but we sure did leave with warm hearts and a list of kitties that might fit our criteria.
Please do not include the photo of my dog(miniature fox terrier) at my apt with your facility photos, that I included with my review. My dog that I had 10.5 yrs, had rigor mortis when I brought her Feb.25th and I requested a call if she came out of it and alive again (I think she is genetically cataleptic and has survived rigor mortis before, but it was a slower process this time), but instead I got all kinds of weird calls and behaviors from people who worked here who are not eyewitnesses, who are not who they claim to be(ie not a medical officer). I worry about my dogs further health and safety. They try to cover their tracks, but they are all liars, even the volunteers, lack good character and a college education for maturity. These people cause angst for attention. This project should be shut down. Upon visiting again July 22, 2019, I see the place badly aired, the pets traumatized and all the staff to have incorrect perceptive ability. One girl seemed to be mistaking hissing for aspiration in her tale of bottle-feeding and none of these people are benefitting towards wellness either. Only well-educated Christians deserve authority, jobs, and opportunity.
Great staff who were very attentive.
We love our newly adopted kittens who were fostered by two different wonderful families. I would’ve given them five stars, but the first time I went to their very nice building in Swope Park to look at kittens there weren’t any. Just before leaving my home I got on the website and it showed they had kittens at the shelter. I called five minutes before I got in my car to drive over there and they confirmed that they had kittens available in the shelter. Once I got there, I was directed back to the cat area and told they didn’t have any kittens only cats. I understand communication errors happen. The volunteer didn’t have the proper interpersonal skills to simply say I’m sorry, after I had driven quite a ways during Covid to adopt a kitten not a cat. Volunteers are as important as staff, but the two I interacted with need training with their interpersonal skills.
My husband found a kitten in a hail storm and bought it to KC Pet Project. They were amazing in helping us get set up to foster, got her vaccinated and will be scheduling her spay soon. They have been so helpful in every step of the partnering process. Hopefully we will get our foster kitten adopted out to a furever home soon.
Great staff and volunteers who deeply care about all the animals. I had a great experience with a dog-to-dog intro between my current pet and my brand new pet. The staff did a great job explaining specific behaviors between them and helping me relax so both dogs would be relaxed. The adoption process was informational and they told me everything I need to know about adopting my HW+ doggy. Thanks for doing all you do and letting my fiance and I gain a new family member. Grizzly is the best!
My 1st trip to KC Pet Project was awesome.A beautiful building filled with empassioned volunteers. All kinds of pets in need of a home.
Great staff that helps pair you with a companion and help maintain a healthy relationship.
First 3 yrs ago I dealt w/them when I found mother who had kittens n another baby kitten who needed homes. Last year I took in a mommy cat n she got pregnant b4 I could get to clinic. She had kittens 8/25/19. I waited til they were 2 months and started calling n emailing different shelters. In Dec finally kc pet said call back after the new year for an appt. I called in jan 2020 and got appt in Feb. Feb came(Im on ssi) and didnt have the 75 fee. I offered to make sm donations for next few months--but no deal. So waited til May n called n got another appt 6/30. My son took 5 kittens(3 boys n 2 girls) down. They DID NOT tell me it had to b me n my son took a lyft,(didnt think rm in lyft w/me n walker) he was only a few min late but w/in the hr time. He calls me n says I have to come down so he calls a lyft for me. Sweet lady only wanted me there to tell me I had to make a new appt, which could have told me on phone. So another lyft back home(3 lyfts total for nothing) and 3 yrs ago driver who picked up the cats n kittens I found, didnt feel comfortable w/her n not sure if kittens were safe w/her. N now definately dont feel good for any animal to b at kc pet. Love animals and always want to help. Got 3 wonderful boyd n 3 girls, lovable adorable playful trained need good homes. God Bless!! Nice to take 2 together for companions.💖😻🙏🇺🇸💖😻🙏🇺🇸
Awesome took in 7puppies and the mama. The staff was super nice and understanding
Got my new fur-ever friend. Shes the sweetest old girl. KCPP is awesome no one rushed me. They answered all my questions. You need a fur-ever friend? KCPP is the place.
Went there looking for a companion for our two dogs, and left disappointed. We found a dog we loved and brought our two dogs to meet him, and they took over. With our first dog (who loves everyone), they let them smell each other through the fence, and then slowly walk around each other on the leash and finally off leash. They loved each other, and then it came time for our other dog. She likes other dogs, but it takes her a little bit to warm up to them. Instead of listening to the owners of the dog, the ladies doing the dog meet decided to just let the new dog come towards her and get into her space and my dog lunged at him. These people have no clue what they are doing and Im super disappointed in them.I used to work at an animal hospital and know a little bit about how to introduce dogs for the first time, and that was the exact opposite of how it goes.
It’s hard to say enough good things about a place as wonderful as the KC Pet Project. The work is needed and underfunded—yet from staff to facilities to cleanliness to atmosphere this place does a wonderful job. Thank you for making this world a little less cruel than it would be without you.
This was a pleasant experience!
I love KC Pet Project for so many reasons. I adopted my sweet baby from them about a year and a half ago. They help so many animals find loving homes. They have veterinary services on site. Their staff is packed with true pet lovers. If I ever adopt again they will be my first stop. Thank you for everything you do for our community. 💗
Let you see 1 dog based off of pictures on website! and if you dont connect they tell you have a nice day!! You dont get a chance to connect with any other dog! Horrible about information staff wasnt helpful at all! Plus they put us in a room that said dirty! Highly dissapointed!
Kix is fitting in very well in his new home. Great experience.
Excellent. Same day no appointments are required and social distancing is maintained. Very clean and well maintained
Filled out paperwork to see dogs when the person came out to escort my adult daughter and I, she had never been there before. I mentioned wanting to see small dogs although I did not plan to adopt but wanted to see them who knows I could have changed my mind. The escort would not show us any dogs he said we had to adopt today! The dogs would be anxious to see strangers... I told him that was ridiculous and.said you all will never get a donation or visit from me I compared this to going to a store you should be able to look and if you want to buy you have the option. Not I have to buy. He did not want to take us around the place. We left.
I was absolutely impressed with the service I received at this shelter. My cat had gone missing and someone dropped off my little cat here. I had a busy day at work and the staff here arranged a time for me to come and retrieve my cat when it was convenient for me. If you are looking to adopt a pet please please go here. They are extremely professional and loving people. They are serving this community well.
Dog I was interested in was already gone but thats a good thing.
They were polite, and I THOUGHT they were helpful while I was there. However it turns out that they did not in fact chip either of my dogs after I paid for it to be done. I even got the little circular collar deal that has the chip number on it. Yet somehow my dogs were over looked, and never got the micro chip. I understand how busy they may have been but this is a big deal considering it could cause someone to lose a pet.
Hated it they are thieves and kept my friends dog
Went in to look at one specific dog and told them as soon as I walked in I was there to see that dog. They said someone else was visiting with the dog. They came out and said they didn’t want him so I waited for them to come get me to see him. Sat for 45 minutes to be told they were adopting the dog to a lady who showed up after and had asked about him after me. That lady had over heard me and my gf talking about this dog and how he looked like the senior dog I adopted when I got to my first duty station. It’s very disappointing I was sitting on the number 2 bench this lady on the number 3 bench but was taken to see the dog before me even though I had asked first.
Beautiful facility! Very helpful and kind staff, you can tell they love their animals
