I have come to this salon many times in the past and gotten my nails done by a variety of different people. This last time I should have just waited for the owner. They gave me a Spanish lady who proceeded to cut my toe nails and rather then only cut would cut while simultaneously pulling, ultimately ripping my toenail. I complained to her but she said that that’s the way she had to do it. Needless to say, my left big toe developed an ingrown toenail which had to be removed and the podiatrist confirmed was due to the girl cutting my toenail too much. My right big toe has had pain since the pedicure that if remains unresolved will warrant another visit to the podiatrist. Finally, one of my finger nails began growing back weirdly, where it exhibited no problems prior. Almost as if a new nail is growing in while the other is still there. See photos for reference. I will say that the girl who did my daughters nails did a great job.Reply to owner: yes, it was your salon on Central Avenue by Bowers. It was a Spanish lady who did my nails and feet, not you. She was maybe in her 40’s and on her phone the entire time.I’m not here to do a back and forth. If you had read the review in it’s entirety you would know that that’s my fingernail that is growing strangely following my manicure at your place. I didn’t upload my toe picture because I had the ingrown nail removed and it’s currently healing. The bottom line is that I had a bad experience at this particular salon. Should have saved myself from the issues and waited for availability at cuteicles!

The lady who did my feet was amazing; but I’ve requested Lisa to do my pink and white set, and she sent me off to someone else who didn’t do my refill correctly. All on my cuticles & uneven, $55 was a waste! Never going back here again. I had to file my own refill correctly & see another nail technician by home

I dont even have 24 hours with the pedicure and it’s already messed up. customer service is bad. I do NOT recommend you to go. waste of time and money.

I went in for a UV gel fill and 1 nail to be replaced and this was my first time here. When it came to paying, the man told me Id be $80... for a fill... as they did not have their prices listed for a fill, I had no choice but to pay but I did question them. I called the next day to see what they would say on the phone for a fill - they said $45. They outwardly scammed me and took advantage that I had never been there. Plus, this place is dirty and dusty as hell. DO not go here.

Owners are very sweet...my technician was a Spanish girl...She was excellent. I did not get her name. Casual atstmophere..Do a thorough job...price is average..Check them out.

I have gone to this nail salon since i was 16yrs old and they were the best. Very disappointed. I was there friday August 7,2020 and spent $141 on 2 reg pedicures, a gel manicure and acrylic filling with gel. Today August 12, 2020 my gel manicure has now chipped on 4 nails and 1 nail peeled off completely my sister gel polish has also chipped. Dont get me started on my pedicure they didnt even cut my cuticles. So disappointed cause i dont even live here to go back.

I came here earlier today to do a acrylic full set with gel. I requested them short with coffin . The owner / nail tech looked at me and said they don’t look good short you need to do it better long .. I told her I couldn’t because I’m a nurse and I need them at a short length to work to the best of my ability . She then told me “I know you think your Ms. Popular and Ms. Know it all but the nails won’t look good short I will try. I couldn’t believe she spoke to me that way . I told her thank you for your services and requested the acrylic she had just glued on be removed . She refused to do so and I had to leave the nail salon with glue and acrylic nails stuck . Never again

The woman who did my toes did great job. I was in a rush so I didnt get to do my hands. The place was nice and the wait was not long, however $40 for a gel pedicure, I think is a little overpriced.

Expensive for some basic nails that I could’ve gotten somewhere else for way cheaper. I wouldn’t mind paying that price if it was nicely done & she didn’t cut me about 7 times. It just looks a mess around my nail. She was also rushing doing my nails like she wanted to leave. If you don’t like your job, don’t work there. Currently bleeding :) never going back.

Been coming here for a little over 2 years really trusted the woman there to do my eyebrows. Went this time and she took almost one whole brow off really disappointing because immediately after I had to pay to get them tinted by a different salon to look decent. Mark ( I think his name is ) young Asian guy does a very good job on nails and takes his time.

I came in with an appointment and asked for a French manicure, gel the lady said gel? and I said no just regular. The manicurist that did my nails was talking very loudly on the phone to someone and I couldnt even enjoy my manicure. When it comes time to paint my nails she brings over the gel polish and I specifically asked her is that gel polish I just want regular and she goes no no no thats just the machine. Mind you she barely spoke any English. Either way she continued. When it came time to pay, the guy tells me $45 dollars. I told him I asked for regular and theyre solution was to take off the polish and start again when it was the businesses fault. Maybe if everyone wasnt on there phones and actually paying attention to what they were doing there wouldnt of been a miscommunication. Terrible and very unprofessional. Too bad they lost a customer. This place is a joke and the owner scams people. Instead of letting the manicurist know what I had said to her at the front desk( communication your staff) she would of been aware and none of that would of happened. Thats why you have so many bad reviews about the same things. And then you give your customers attitude about it and expect people to pay up for your faults. Disgusting and greedy.

I had the worst experience at this nail salon before i have to leave for a vacation. my first time here, i camein for a gel mani and pedi. i noticed on vacay that some nails were chipping, but since it has never happened to me, i thought nothing of it. i decided to give this nailsalon the benefit of the doubt and told the same woman who worked on my nails the first time about the chipping. she said “that is normal when your nails are growing.” this made absolutely no sense, since the chipping was on the top of the nail. i let it go. now this is the second time going to this salon and this time . it is even worse. it’s not just one nail that has chipped in less than 24 hours, it is 8 !!!! if a customer is paying for GEL, chipping is unacceptable. Especially that quickly. i’m assuming she is painting peoples nails with regular polish and passing it off as gel. This is the only conclusion i can come to since i have done many, many gelmanicures and none of them have gotten this bad.the hispanic lady with the short red hair was rude and unprofessional. she barely acknowledged me and did a bad job. they charged me $100 for a terrible job. it is very disappointing because my initialreaction, i thought they looked great. but as the day went on, one by one they began to chip. i gave her a very generous tip despite her rude demeanor. not only is the service flawed but they are overcharging people for a service that you can get cheaper at a nailsalon two blocks away. i attempted to return to get it fixed as soon as they opened the very next day and that was a fail. the nail salon was closed despite their website saying that their open at 10am. i decided to take my losses since i was on a time crunch, and go down the block to a different nail salon. i was very pleased with the service. safe to say, i will not be returning ever.

This nail salon is one of the more expensive ones in the area but like they say “you get what you pay for!” After having a terrible experience at a nail salon down the block, I called here to see if they had someone available for a walk in. They told me yes so I walked right over. The nail tech Maria was wonderful! You can tell she takes pride in her work! Let’s just say I won’t be going to my old salon anymore!

The woman put way too many layers of polish on my big toes. I couldnt dry them for the life of me, and of course they ended up getting ruined when i got home. She also scrubbed the soft part of my foot, which hurt like hell and left actual scratches on my foot. She was only half paying attention, on her phone most of the time. I do not recommend her at all though I didnt catch her name. Shes the young, perhaps hispanic, one with long hair. She didnt ask me if I wanted my cuticles cut or not, didnt ask me anything. She was rough with my feet the whole time. The only nice part was the scrub and lotion on my legs, but she rushed through it and did it so half heartedly might as well have not done it at all. Terrible service. :(

Went there to get my wedding nails done. Showed the lady a picture and she had an attitude the whole time and told me what I wanted was stupid. My nails didnt look anything like I wanted and cost me over 100 bucks. Cut me twice and said it was my fault. My nail broke instantly when I got home and she also yelled at me for that when I went back to get it fixed.

I always went here no matter what they are really good with nails especially jack he did mines all the time and they came out amazing ! I always recommend them to friends. You will not be disappointed . Those bad reviews I don’t know what their talking about but I never had a problem and nails always came out perfect !

I was just at this nail salon all I did was get a gel pedicure and place acrylic on my hands with gel nail polish and the cost was $90. The male looks like the manager is very rude and unprofessional. Theyre exploiting and over charging for the bare minimum of nail service.

I came out crying because i hated my nails, the spanish mad a mistake and she literally told me oh well i cant go back and redo it, she was on her phone, my nails were uneven she took advantage of me. i paid only because i didnt know how to react, as soon as she was done with my nails she put her sweater on and ran out. like what. when all my friends and patients seen my nails they literally felt bad. it was a horrible experience. i never believed a place can actually do that.

The guy did my nails and i left very unhappy, i wanted a natural nail color from existing brown color, He didnt clean it properly and when the new polish is on the old color just reflects, just shows that theyre not doing it properly.. Im so disappointed coz its a gel polish and it cant be removed easily. Im so disgusted! Wont come back again! I included here their professional reply blaming customers for their flaw. Very nice!!! Its not the sexiest, its not the most perfect, but the prices and customer service is why Ive been going there for the last 4 years!Every time I go and get my nails done and everyone is talking like their family. I’ve refused to come back in the past, because employees cell phone are more important then proper customer service. I unfortunately was on a time crunch, and this place is usually empty so I went in for a polish change .... for what? It’s the next day and my gel polish is peeling off. Really hate their customer service and their work. Hoping to have a good nail salon open up in the area.

Absolutely love this place. The owners are wonderful!! Have been coming here since i was 16yrs old. So a total of 13 yrs now. Their staff is also very nice, they make you feel at home. Everyone always has a smile on their faces which makes it feel welcoming. Always recommending this place to everyone i know.

I went to fix one nail after a bad experience at another nail place. Owner asked me where I went to do my nails after explaining to him my experience he turns and says maybe they dont like you. I tell him well thats why Im looking for a new nail place because I didnt like the nail place either. He says well its not fair you come here to us to fix your nail. He was acting like I went into there establishment asking to fix my nail for free. I went in there as a paying customer. Very rude and will never go back there. That is not how you speak to a paying customer.

BEWARE! waited about over 2 hours to get my nails done — the place was empty but they did have comfy chairs to wait in — they greeted when I walked in and the guy was working on nails — the women in the front was working on a client nails and took two hours just to do basic nails — the guy then told me he will do mine in about 5 mins and then he said he had someone else to do after I waited extra time — when I was about to walk out they encouraged me that they would do my nails ASAP — well after a fill in — fixing one broken nail — and literally basic gel nail polish with no design I was charged 56$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And tipped I 5$ since it’s just in my personality to be nice — but I was hesitant because I was charged more then I paid at another place two weeks prior —before starting my nails a client that had her nails done before me was talking to me and put lotion on her nails and said for this price that he charged I should’ve had lotions at least put on my hand .. I should’ve walked out then and there but I asked the guy for the price before he did my nails and he completely fooled me by telling me another price — for that I could’ve went to the fancy place Cuteicles I normally go to up the road and have a appointment instead of waiting— won’t go back at all my girlfriend also paid 45$ for her gel manicure and minimal hand design which was insane as she didn’t tip she was upset and thought the whole experience was just pathetic and sketchy!!!

Totally not happy with my full set I got on Friday March 1st, 2019. Im not sure of the technician name, but the women who sat at the second table of Lisas left. My set is poorly shaped, 3 nails are crooked from the tip being placed and glued on wrong. They were not cleaned up around the cuticle nor under the nail tip. They are already lifting and very thick. Then my toenails were not cleaned under the nail and around the sides /cuticles. My big toes are cut up so bad from the filing she did. My heels and feet were not smooth and overall I wasnt satisfied. Now normaly I go elsewhere, but I was told this nail salon was the best so I tried something new. Really wish I would have went to my normal nail salon.... Very disappointed and wont be coming back!

Jack and Lisa’s nail salon have been my long time go to nail salon. I live almost an hour from them and I have searched closer to me for nail salons that will do correct shapes, designs, and actually listen to the customer. I haven’t found anyone compared to them! They have a great personality and the prices are fair for what you get. I have gotten acrylic with gel color, gel pink/white sets, handmade designs, rhinestones, and any latest trends. They always have what I request and never fail on me. Some of these reviews seems to be people thinking that today’s nails we see on social media are cheap! Also try to call before coming to see if it’s possible to get what you are asking for in time and be as specific as you can so they can determine if it’s possible. Don’t expect Cardi B nails to be done in 20 mins and only pay $30 for them lol.

Waited over 40 min to be helped. While people coming in were helped before me. Had I know it would take this long I would have easily gone else where. Won’t be coming back.

DO NOT INVEST IN DESIGN NAILS. I recently went to this nail salon last minute because of an upcoming vacation, as soon as I walked in it seemed like one of the workers was impatient with me questioning how long I’d be waiting to get my mani. I sat down only to see a fish tank covered in green algae and dirty fish giving me my first impression of this places poor sanitation skills. I was then called to get my mani along with my mother, she was assigned to a woman tech while i waited. The woman had a boyfriend sitting next to her who claimed he could do nails. I overheard them talking about how they wanted to get out of there quick to get home proceeding to do a rush job on both me and my mother. The ma sat down and only had three tools and did not have ANY idea of what he was doing, filed my skin instead of nails, then ripped my hang nail i had, and continuously got up to look for other tools. Did not soak my nails, did not clean them. He dusted my nails with some random sponge, then threw all the tools, back in the drawer. His nails and hands were very dirty. I am no longer going to this nail place and utterly DISGUST. I always here about this salon being unsanitary and poor service not surprised by the amount of 1star reviews.

I’ve been coming to Jack since I was around 14-15 years old. I lost touch with him and then found out he owned this place in Jersey City. I was so happy because I can never find a place that does an amazing job on my nails. Jack and Lisa make sure you are taken care of and the prices are really good! I never leave dissatisfied and I get compliments everywhere I go. Whoever says this place isn’t good, they’re liars!

Looks like a nice place but the service leaves you wanting more. Came in for a pedicure and the lady working with me rushed through. Didnt clean cuticles that well and put blobs of nailpolish on that even after 25 minutes under the dryer, didnt dry. I tried to tell her that the coats were too thick but she either didnt understand or pretended not to. Sure enough, that pedicure was ruined as soon as I left the salon.

WILL NEVER RETURN HERE! IF YOU HAVE A FUNCTIONING BRAIN PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION. Very bad experience. I went for manicure she had a very young lady do it. Cuticles she left there. And I started to cut them myself with her tools, she then ask if I wanted it removed it’s apart of a manicure. Of course I do. I just paid and still tip young lady because no matter if u go to school if owner doesn’t over see workers you can become lazy. Let’s not talk about paint job she ask me if I wanted to dry I said no got paper towel and as walked out removed. Never again. Thx for the 18 dollar nail cut owner seen didn’t even ask if everything was ok.

My nails where done by the man, who either just works there or he is the boss not sure. He was extremely rude and did a terrible job! My hands were dried out by the acetone and cuticles looked messy! The nail polish leaked all over the cuticles. I had to literally tell him to do my cuticles because after filing down half my nail off after taking the gel polish off, he was just about to put the new color on without doing anything. That is not called a manicure.I would never go there again even if it was the last place on earth.

The asian lady was on the phone the whole time while doing my nails and she was giving me a headache yelling on the phone! Rushing to get me out she barely soaked my nails to get the gel off so she just used the machine and cut me . She never soaked my hands in water to soften my cuticles! She just ripped it off dry and she was only cutting off some of my cuticles on some fingers dry and cutting me ! Then she went and put blobs of nail polish on my nails and putting them under the light . I walked out with my nails all diff shapes, full of cuticles, gel smeared nail polish!!!! AWFUL TERRIBLE HORRENDOUS!!!! NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!! DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR & DONT EVEN COME HERE AS A LAST RESORT!!!!!

Nice place for acrylic sets but their pedicures are horrible. The girls who do pedi don’t know what they are doing and barely cleaned my toes and the nail polish was terrible. So many coats!!!!!! And trimmed my toe nails too too much

Worst nails done ever. It took them less than half hour to do both mani and pedi. Plus the nail paint was done so bad that it started to show lots of bubbbles ... total waist of my money and time.

I highly recommend not going to this salon. STATE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY SHOULD REALLY LOOK INTO THIS SALON. I have been going to this place for over a year not realizing the level of DIRTINESS this place has to offer. Anytime you get a gel nail polish and they have to remove your old polish, they pour acetone into a dirty bowl. Shortly after they squeeze that acetone back into the bottle to reuse for other people. Acetone has a VERY STRONG scent to it, for it to smell so incredibly FOUL is just mind blowing. Not only do i get my nails done but i always get a pedi along with it. They barley wipe the surface of the pedi bowl in between clients. I have watched the girl pull out the same gloves for each client and just blow into them to fit her hands again. ( DISGUSTING ) Although they have a Serialized Container for implements, they NEVER use it. Ive watched this girl use a cuticle nipper on me and then throw it back into her drawer, then use it on the person after me. The foot scrubber is HORRIFIC !! Never Ever cleaned or sanitized! These things cost close to nothing to purchase even more for a salon owner they can get them for whole sale prices.. Shortly a few days after my last visit i had a lot of discomfort on my feet and couldnt understand why. I never had a problem with them. I always take care of them, get a pedi every other week, I had decided to schedule to see a podiatrist right on Central ave. When i told him what was going on he asked if i get pedis normally and if the place i went to was clean. I obviously told him no that i was going to the same place for over a year right on central.. The irony is that he asked if it was Design Nail because I was not the first person to come in with that type of infection from that place. I was put on a oral and topical medication to help fix the horrendous infection i got from this dirty place. I have since then found the most amazing nail studio right here on central ave. CUTICLES SALON, has the cleanest environment I have ever stepped in. All of their implements are opened in front of you in a sealed, sterile, package. Their pedi bowls are lined in with a cover for each client. Their foot scrubber is small and brand new for every client. They offer services with some of the best products on the market. They are super nice and caring. You most certainly get the service you are paying for. You never leave feeling like you were robbed for your money. I am writing this review to hopefully help others realize what kind of the place this is, the owner of design nails is very rude and always nasty, always quick to jump at a client and super quick to take your money for a crappy service in return !! Im sure i will be receiving an illiterate and rude response back from them for this post and that’s ok.. just needed to inform others of this HORRIFIC, DIRTY, DISGUSTING, FOUL PLACE! Stay Away!
