A review is hard because what is the JCA? Part gym, school, community center, religious organization, this is an establishment in Mandarin. So with that caveat, Im basing my review on getting a groupon for a 1-month trial membership. I was excited to try out the facilities seeing how many fitness amenities they have - multiple indoor and outdoor pools, multiple indoor basketball courts, racquetball, gym, and saunas in the locker rooms. The Good - the sheer list of things to do. I was impressed the gym had the crossfit bumper weights Im used to. I also loved the hot and steam saunas in the bathroom. The Bad - I was really looking for a new gym, which is about 1/10th the focus at JCA. The gym is quite small compared to others like Planet Fitness, LA, or Baileys where Ive held memberships. I counted around 40 cardio machines (bikes, treadmills, ellipticals) but because of Covid, half were roped off so you only had a small handful which means the equipment you wanted was often occupied. I was looking forward to some pool time as well but the summer time means theres a lot of classes and theres a notice that says you need to sign up first so I never was able to take advantage. Theres also no ab area in the gym except for maybe the tables they use for physical therapy which would be awkward at best. There was a converted racquetball court with an odd array of equipment but if you have black soled shoes like me, theres a sign that says youre not allowed. The Ugly - after I got a temporary membership card, I was told I was all set and enjoy. Period. I never received a tour of any kind, never received anything from the membership office, nothing. I was completely on my own, wandering around a massive facility which is also a school so a grown man is walking alongside preschool children moving from place to place or waiting to be picked up. On that vein, if you arrive anywhere near pick-up/drop-off times, ingress and egress just to work out are an exhibition in finesse. The mens locker rooms are also divided between 16 and up and boys 16 and under. You have a lot of old men that have no problem stripping naked and walking around and then you have a group of young boys walk by. Im uncomfortable with seeing old man junk and to have an underage kid exposed to that seems borderline illegal. All in all, you can see that this place really cares about being a community center. Kind of all things to everybody even with the obvious Jewish focus, I never felt ostracized for not being a member of that faith. I did feel somewhat ostracized as a trial member, which would be a time I would think you would want to really put your best foot forward. For the high price point, this just wasnt the gym-gym I was looking for.

JCA is not simply a place to work out; its a community which cares for the health and well being of its members. I am so happy to have been a part for the past five years that we have lived in the neighborhood. On leaving, I am sad, but happy my daughter and her twins will remain a part for as long as possible.

I have been a member here more than 5 years. There are many amenities offered here. They offer an indoor and out door pool, tennis court, weight room, gymnasium, track, racket ball court, dry sauna, steam room, locker room, rooms for classes like yoga, pump, cycle, and more. My husbands favorite is having access to several golf country clubs like South Hampton Country Club. I have also taken advantage of their wellness center which was free to members. I was able to speak to licensed nurses about my health goals and get some guidance. I have been happy with the staff as well. They are very helpful.

Wonderful facility. Went on a tour with my kids. Everyone, including some members, went out of their way to welcome us. Decided to sign up as a single parent and two kids. Very reasonable sign up fee and monthly fees. Great, warm indoor pool and nice looking outdoor pool, warm months only. Real clay tennis courts, free personal trainer for several visits as new members. Well stocked fitness room, secure building, many opportunities for personal advancement, lots of activities for kids, such as swim teams, tennis, etc. Five stars!Edited. Still love this place. Very happy we chose it over other facilities

A wonderful Community Center for all ages. It may be more expensive than the Y, but the offer art, theater and music classes. The facility includes a large room with exercise machines, gym, racquetball courts, two large pools, both indoor and out and a kiddie pool. My main suggestion would be for The J to add shade over the kiddie pool. The high quality preschool there is for members and non-members.

Great place with lots of activities and free babysitting. Staff is very friendly. Locker room and bathrooms are very clean. My only complaint is the gym itself is a little small compared to the YMCA, and Golds. It could use some more machines.

Love it! Great for our family. They welcome anyone you do not have to be Jewish. Alot of classes and programs for any and all interests. They have preschool and camp programs. We enrolled our child in the summer camp. He looked forward to going everyday! Didnt come home sick or with bad habits, noticed an increase in his conversational skills. Swimming lessons were also included!! Great place for kids with allergy concerns as they are very understanding and accommodating. We joined on a family membership. While I workout or take a class my child is in safe hands at kid care. As a native, I Havent really found any comparable places in Jax with so much to offer.

In regards to the gym & center itself, its great. However, the membership - including the fees and the system itself - is ridiculous & antiquated. It needs to be updated or tossed out.
