I toured this museum during the Mississippi portion of a road trip, and I was really impressed! They have an excellent permanent collection of amazing works which are free to the public, and the invitational exhibit which is $15, but definitely worth it! I am always happy to give my money to parks and museums! The staff here are also very friendly and the museum is very beautiful. There is also a gorgeous Art Garden outside of the museum where you can sit and enjoy beautiful flowers and trees and sculptures.
Went to the museum of art for Japan Fest. The organizers thought they would attract 200 people. When the doors opened there were already 120 people in line. Foot traffic wise they had 500 plus attendees. Very nice showing for an inaugural event. It was hosted by the Japanese consulate. Events such as traditional drumming and flute music, sake tasting, book mark making, sushi introduction, JET program, Japanese writing, art tables.
Very eclectic array of art for viewing, surrounded by the most peaceful and eye pleasing art garden. The events held here, despite a large crowd, remain comfortable and inviting due to the architecturally designed “open-flow” that eases groups & individuals alike from room to room without hindrance. Definitely recommend to locals as a common visiting spot and to the out of state visitors..I say a you should!Well lit. Safe area. Street parking.Metered. However parking is Free on weekends and after 5 pm every day.
A must-see attraction for any visitor to the Capital City! Wonderful collection of artists from Mississippi and beyond. The museum store has a great selection of gifts, too. Check it out!
This museum is full of great art, and is really nice to look around. There is so much room and the gift shop is filled nicely. Recently I went to an event there and they separated everything very nicely, keeping the event and museum separated.
One of the best museum that we have ever visit.Pros: The place is pretty nice both from the outside and the inside. They are free so it is so amazing and everyone can come and visit that is so awesome. Let me pay the excise be a “special and there’s many activities that you can do while you are there.Cons: There’s not a lot of parking space and it is downtown so that may be quite something going on. Because it is free so there’s not many special pictures of arms that you can see.
This is my second time here. It is a good experience. It reminded me of how many Mississippi people have been influential in this country. I am proud of our state. We were there during a tattoo artist display. Though that is not my interest it was well done. I always recommend it to whoever asks about it.
The event held at this location was amazing! The event was centered around Japanese culture, some participants performed music, sword fighting(Kido), tea tasting, and sake. I am a huge admirer of Japanese culture and I am grateful to have had attended this event.
The museum offers so many nice art books to study—to learn to appreciate art & to make art.
WAAAYYY too much politicized art! WAAAAYYY too much of the sentiment that Black people are victims and oppressed. God forbid that they are taking young school children in here and giving them the idea that the color of your skin determines your destiny. Lets try to encourage and inspire, rather than languishing in maudlin complaints of how things used to be. Gift shop was awesome though, and got close to $100 dollars out of me! : ) Did I mention that the building and grounds are beautiful?!
Loved it. Clean, quiet, and thoughtful. My only complaint is I wish it were bigger.
We went to Jackson for this MS japan fest and it was cool but wish they could of offered more for stands like food venues with traditional Japanese food, more anime stuff and more to do. It was cool that we could walk and check out some of the art that the museum had to offer.
I was there to drop off artwork (MississippiAutumn I) 4 art exhibition called Mississippi Invitational 2021. Opening 08/14/2021 - 11/04/2021, so love it!
Lots of really cool art, the history of Martin Luther King was really informational. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, if I am ever in the area again both me and my son will be visiting again
What a hidden gem! The outdoor seating area reminds me of oceanside florida.this is a good date night place.inside the limited exhibition was delightful.
I really enjoyed the exhibit and I loved that they had some very kid friendly activities. We journaled, admired art, got to see cotton from another perspective, learned about lines, and had fun in the water fountain mosaic. It really was a great way to spend the day enriching ourselves and it didnt cost an arm and leg. Plus the museum had some inexpensive items at the gift shop.
A very welcome surprise. Great afternoon spent there among art I never imagined seeing. A young girl was a tour guide to us travelers showing us all the little secrets and stories of famous and not so. She was so friendly. Highly recommend.
Love this place! Really miss the days when it was free.
The Betye Saar exhibit was breathtaking.
Great venue for the Japanese cultural event
It was okay. It was small not that interesting but okay and thats about it.
Very friendly helpful staff. What we saw was beautiful but we were one day early for the reopening of most of the exhibits. Hope to revisit one day in the near future.
Great little museum in the heart of Jackson. They have awesome events here - e.g. family movie screenings. There are a bunch of kids sections and the special exhibits were always great and educational. In one exhibit the artist played with shapes to form art from shadows. The picture is one example from that temporary collection
A very nice museum with beautiful gardens. The travelling exhibit ( French Impressionism) was very nicely done. The permanent exhibits displayed the history and culture of Mississippi very nicely. The gardens are a great place to relax, and a small splash pad for children to enjoy themselves. Definitely will return.
We are visiting from Gulfport, Mississippi for the day. We have thoroughly enjoyed the museum & art. This is the first time my son has seen a Vincent Van Gogh and it was exciting to see his enthusiasm! We had the sweetest guide who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable! Cant say enough great things about the museum! I look forward to coming back and bringing my husband. Oh, and the security officer was extremely kind too! We got to park directly out front. You will want to spend a little time outside admiring the landscape and yard art that wont disappoint.
A wonderful place to experience beauty.
Well-maintained with a great layout and friendly staff. A wonderful blend of art and history, arts of all kinds from different styles and times of the world.
Beautiful museum. Great place to get out and unwind. The art was wonderful and thought provoking. Reservation process was easy and social distancing was not an issue. I definitely recommend going.
Loved the Van Gogh exhibit!
They advertised Van Gogh, Manet, and Monet. Dont have a single one of any. Its all boring contemporary stuff. Free admission isnt enough, youd have to pay me to waste my time their again.
Be sure to find and cherish the oil paintings of William Hollingsworth — it’s been a while since I’ve been to this museum. But Hollingsworth’s paintings are still a memorable moment of my visit. The museum is located in downtown Jackson. On weekends the area is a ghost town, so it’s nice the museum is one of the few places open. While youre in Jackson — check out Eudora Welty’s house!
Had a great time seeing permanent collection and the Impressionist Exhibit. Great staff. Nice layout.
The Art on Film screening of Moving Vincent at the Mississippi Museum of Art was a rousing success. The best turnout for any film of our film series programs. Thanks. See you on October 9 for our next film.
They had an exhibition on impressionism which was pretty good. They had works of Cezzane, Degas, Pissarro,Renoir and others. There was one painting by picasso: Chinese Chest of Drawers. Staff was nice and helpful. You would be done in an hour. Not a lot of stuff but good stuff.
Black Out is a great exhibit!
Small museum, but always nice to see Impressionism exhibits! Great gift shop.
Great place. Clean. Peaceful. Theres a garden area outside. You wait outside and someone will come and get you. Thats because of Covid-19.
Absolutely loved this museum! The exhibit we went to see was awesome! The garden and grounds were lovely. The staff was friendly and informative!
Fun place, nice art.
I am giving it 5 stars for the fact that the staff were very nice. Art is not my thing but I am sure other people would enjoy this.
MMA is a beautiful small museum that has great exhibits. One of the best things in Jackson
Great experience
A very well done museum and a nice setting in general with gardens and fountains. The staff there was very helpful and friendly.
Nice special exhibitVan Gogh, Monet, Degas, and Their Times: Video Guide
Love the garden and the exhibits.
Van Gogh, Degas, Monet and Their Times is an excellent exhibit, and with the Covid-19 restrictions Appointment and masks required, social distancing), viewing the show is an uncrowded, unhurried pleasure.
A fun and free place to go!
Beautiful Decor for this event
I have been attempting to plan my wedding at the museum since early this year. When we toured, we thought the event coordinator was great and would be supportive, but planning has been nothing but one big issue after the next. We were quoted incorrect pricing during our initial consultation. That was fixed, but any time I have attempted to e-mail, it has taken DAY/WEEKS to get a response. We have gotten ZERO update since the COVID pandemic started, and our CATERER who does not even work for the museum has had to keep us updated! As a nurse working through the COVID crisis, I have zero time/energy to consistently reach out/get updates! My dream was to have my weeding at the museum, and now all I want to do is take my deposit back and run. I am SO discouraged!
Great place. Employees super friendly. The exhibition was great
Really nice
The gift shop has a wonderful variety of items at many price points. Items for kids and adults, serious and humorous. Dont tell - I got a matted reproduction of one of the paintings to give for Christmas.
Very beautiful place! The grounds are extremely well maintained where theres a lovely garden with a walking path throughout, the exterior is very nicely architected, and the whole thing just gives an air of beauty and tranquility. And I havent even toured the museum yet! Ive only gone there for events on the lawn and Art After Hours on every third Thursday of every month.
The Art Museum is a great place to explore and enjoy exhibits and art work . But I really enjoy the level of service they offer for groups or individuals who choose to rent spaces for special events. It is absolutely awesome and they offer a variety of menus for every occasion. The fees and prices are easy to view on their website. Menu options and request are made after contacting the Museum by phone or email probably.
The MMA is one of my favorite places to spend time in Jackson. Ive been coming to the museum long before I moved here. They offer world-class travelling exhibits and have a permanent collection of fantastic art by Mississippi artists/relating to Mississippi. The art garden is excellent. Classes and events for children, adults, students, and the whole family are top notch. The facility and grounds are immaculate. Art is presented well. Special events are plentiful and inviting. I have a membership to the museum, which is not expensive and offers all sorts of extra perks, discounts and exclusive viewings of working studios and private collections around town. The museum is a popular place for weddings, chamber music, and high-end receptions. It is worth going out of your way to see the collection and attend an event if you are in Central Mississippi.
I very much enjoyed my visit. The staff was very kind and helpful. While they are a smaller museum they have several interactive sections for guests which I can see would be very helpful for those with children. They had great parking. They also had beautiful gardens and the museum had a few tables set aside, in the cafe, for those who wished to draw.
It was spacious and well organized. I loved the quilt exhibit based on slavery times--very bold. Also featured was a MS born native American artist that was very interesting. Depending on your level of interest you can probably make it through thi exhibit in about an hour.
The museum has a GREAT silhouette exhibit. I was grateful for their free admission, free wifi and areas to lounge. The gardens are beautiful. I would definitely recommend visiting the museum.
Nicholas Cave exhibit was thoughtful and unexpected. Making beauty with daily bits of life.
Fun visit to the Museum of Art! It has a couple of floors of art work, paintings, and sculptures to walk through. Interesting works with some very original sculptures. It has a beautiful garden outside coupled with a small fountain garden. Its open to the public located in the heart of Jackson Downtown, its worth a visit
First time here, Im from Houston. Go to the museum to join the Muslim Festival in Mississippi. Before I dance, I tour the museum. Do not know how much the ticket price for entry, I found Pablo Picasso. Not that crowded as Museum Fine Arts in Houston thoug.
Very friendly staff. There was an area for the kids as well, which made the visit more easy for the family. It is free to see and definitely worth a stop!
Here for the impressionist exhibit, which is an awesome, must see event.
My favorite place to relax and refresh. Lots of great events. Memberships are well worth it.
The free section was nice. Enjoyed seeing the local art
They try hard to have good exhibits. They need more money from donations for promotions.. Nice people
Small and pretty
We travel all over the country and try to see as many art museums as possible. A few have stood out for the objects and the curating and the MMA has been added to our list of favorites. From the outside art garden (which we did not spend much time in because it was raining) to the wonderfully light filled atrium at the entrance to the displays this was a visit we thoroughly enjoyed. We were there for the exhibit called picturing Mississippi which only runs until July 8, 2018 so if you can get to it, do. They have events all the time and a very good gift shop with lots of art and nice gifts.
Very nice! Small and relaxing. Perfect for a date or just to explore what our city has to offer.
The Nick Cave art exhibit and Silent Disco event was marvelous. I hope you have many more event like this in the future!!!
Great place for all ages. Rotating exhibits require a ticket, but the front areas of the museum are free of charge. Once a month, Music in the City is free on a Tuesday night which features great classical or folk music. It is co-sponsored by St. Andrews Cathedral. There are art camps for kids and after hour events once a month on Thursdays ... still free.
Awesome art museum. Im not from Jackson, but come over for a weekend getaway every now & then. Love to stop here & check it out. The building & grounds are super cool too!
Loved it.... a gem for Jackson and Mississippi
We really enjoyed this museum that leans heavily on local, regional artists. Excellent museum overall.
Wonderful display of high school artistic winners. Nice, interesting ; just all around fun place to take your family and friends.
This is the premier museum in Mississippi. Im a regular, but visitors are often amazed at the quality of the exhibits, staff, not to mention the food. Currently there is an exhibit called When Modern Became Contemporary that you should not miss. The facility is great for events such as Company parties, weddings and other special events. Its very cool to hold an event and have the ability walk-through a top-notch museum at your own pace. There are numerous events each week, but my favorite is probably Third Thursday which is held in the adjacent Art Garden and features local bands, special food and drinks, and is a really good time. Dont miss it!
Great place to hold an outdoor event. Ive been to the movie and food truck events here in the last 2 years, its been wonderful. Plenty of seatings and the food trucks have been great!
Mississippi Museum of Art is a wonderful place to visit both as an individual and as a family. It is a beautiful part of Jackson MS!
Came during one of their Art and Coffee events, and it was very excellent. The staff makes you feel welcome, the speaker was very interactive and informative while also providing great insight to the history and culture of the pieces presented.
It was a new experience for me. Never been to Creole Folk Music before, Loved it!! Everyone was friendly and helpful. And yes the was a Cash Bar.
Wonderful museum. Very fun and educational. Will definitely be going back for regular visits.
It has a nice interior. Its probably best when youre going for an event because the actual art selection is relatively small. They hold fun events though, and looking into it is a good idea
This is one of the best museums of art I have been to. Their after hours are a must for young and old.
Wonderful experience. Very fun and educational. Great personnel. We will definitely attend the next event
Beautiful museum and very accessible. Love how much it supports the community.
