Not a great experience for a 4-5 year old. My son was thrown into a class of children that have clearly been practicing for months if not a year. The instructor was barking out orders so fast, Im certain I couldnt have followed them. My son was baffled at what to do. He wasnt instructed at all. He wasnt taught how to stand, how to make a fist, punch, kick, he wasnt taught anything. He was expected to do exactly what the other kids were doing or sit perfectly still on the mat. After a few minutes he was told to go sit back with us.They should consider having an actual beginner class. Because this wasnt it.
Do not sign a contract. My 7-year old was interested in martial arts but after trying it, found she did not enjoy it. We were stuck in a 1-year contract. This is too long of a commitment for this age who frequently change their minds, which is common during this developmental phase. When I inquired about early termination options, the receptionist/owner’s wife commented that this will be a lifelong pattern of quitting for my 7-year old. I’m still infuriated at her presumptuously rude comment when she knows nothing about my child. My child has completed many seasons of soccer, baseball, gymnastics, tap, ballet, reading & more, all of which had much more reasonable terms of commitment, like by semester or by month. My child is not a quitter. However, she did say that karate was not fun. If you know anything about 7-year olds, you know that fun is a pretty high priority, especially for extra curricular activities. They take themselves too seriously at Holan’s; and seem to not understand children’s developmental growth.
My family and I have been training at Holans Texas Karate Do for more than 6 years and it’s absolutely awesome environment to train in the martial arts. The instructors are very friendly and knowledgeable, and the facilities are great! Techniques and exercises are nicely put together in the different classes, which follow a structured plan and are supervised by experienced instructors. It’s a lot of fun and you really feel that you get the most out of your time there! Not only does Master Holan and his team of instructors provide great martial arts training, they effectively instill great character and respect to every student that enters their doors. I know my girls have gained confidence in school, respect to elders and preform to a higher standard because of the martial arts program at Holan’s Texas Karate Do.
This place is awesome brian is a great instructor and worked with my 8 year old daughter. I am a very strict parent in wanting my child to succeed. She struggled in the beginning and I was told my the owners wife ms rosie that she will continue to get better !!! After being here for a year now this place becomes a family with the kids and the parents especially at tournaments. The instructors take your child in the beginning with the rest of the beginners and move at a pace that is at the students level I highly reccomend them. They also have classes for adults as well!!!
Every thing is ok bat de time is note good de time sey estar at 4 :00 pm but is estar at 4:10 end finis is 4:50 but is finis at 4:40 the is note good
Texas karate do is a awesome martial arts school with awesome instructors that make you feel like home their teaching skills are amazing and kids are always excited to learn new things in class with them in different fun wayThe Little Dragons class is so much fun the Instructor Zayda Hernández makes the class so much fun for the kids to be excited to learn every day in many ways...
Very good teacher, father and husband He and his assistants did an amazing job with my son Stephen Shaffer. He will not promote if your not ready for safety and integrity. Great place
Holans Karate Do is a wonderful place! My 6 year old son Ewan has not only benefited from the excellent instructors like Miss Zayda, Mr. Peter, and Miss Lesley, but hes discovered a place where they treat you like family. To wit, after each class Ewan and his friends like to gather to play Legos together. The karate studio manager noticed that Ewan likes to bring in Legos to share with others and went out of her way to buy him a little Lego bag to say thank you for being kind. He was also treated to a special black uniform for exhibiting the spirit of karate with his fellow students. I mean, honestly, how amazing is that? I really like all the other parents too and I appreciate all the extra-curricular opportunities that they provide such as pool parties and more. Its a special place indeed!
I was shocked by customer service of Affiliated acceptance that Karate do has agreement to take payments towards classes! People please be aware! DO NOT SIGN agreement with them where they are able to charge your card automatically! They will say we attempted to charge and charge didnt go though (Which is a lie, confirmed by my bank!), then they will charge a late fee and then they will report to credit bureau on you WITHOUT any notification. And after that, when you call to ask questions, they will hang up on you. Im taking them to court. PLEASE RUN AWAY and find better school and system!I have not yet faced anything like that in my whole life! Please find better options for your kids and dont waste your money!
Never dreamed I’d be willing to get up early to go to a 6am boot camp! But the people, the laughter & great workouts keep me coming back!! I recommend it to everyone no matter your age. You’re never too old or out of shape to get started!
I have continued to work with Texas Karate Do and I maintain that they are a five star business. This is a professional club that can take anyone on a journey to greater confidence, better health and generally more success in every aspect of your life. We have also found that Texas Karate Do has significantly helped us to meet our detectives’ self-defense needs when working in the investigative field. Both my son and l learned so much from the 1.5 years we were there before we moved. It’s the best dojo in the area. I’d give them 10 stars if I could. 🥋👍👍👍
Great place! The instructors are fabulous. They really care about the students and work hard to ensure all students reach their full potential!
My son has been in Lil Dragons and loves each class. The instructors are very kind and have high expectations.
Not only is this a great place to work, but its a very supportive family environment. The school host different events though out the year just to show appreciation for its students. The Texas Karate Do offers high quality instruction with top of the line equipment and instructors. It also offers awesome Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction for both kids and adults. This amazing school is always growing. Come check it out and be apart of a family not just a school.
Morning boot camp is the best way to start the day!! Lots of fun and variety! Love the people and instructor!!
Started taking karate here a while back on a friends recommendation. I love it! Great instructors and reasonable prices.
My partner and I gave each other krav maga classes for Christmas and have been going for three weeks. It has been a great experience so far. Bryan has been patient with two beginners and accommodating of our erratic schedules, but since they have 6 krav classes a week we can usually attend at least 3. David was clear about our payment options--they do sign you up for automatic payments, just like a gym, which you can cancel on a months notice. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in learning one or more of several martial arts they offer.
Amazing instructors both in karate and jiu jitsu! They not only make you feel like family they are great teachers!
Can you say family fitness? This place has it all. The boot camp classes are by far the most comprehensive Ive ever taken to date. We cover cardio, strength training, tae bo, kickboxing, heavy weights, light weights, challenge balls, martial arts, mixed martial arts; you name it, we seem to do it. The martial arts classes are organized and inspiring. The kids are well disciplined and are encouraged to be contributing members of society, and go beyond just getting a black belt. The classes are energizing and P.E. credits can be gotten for these classes. Holans also offers krav maga classes: ladies, this is the ultimate in self defense. You learn knife defense, gun defense, self defense for any situation. You need this class. My money is more than well spent at Holans Texas Karate Do.
Really good instructors, have enjoyed training and practicing with them, the jiu jitsu class is always fun! Not to mention the family atmosphere on the karate side of the dojo!!
The Jiu-jitsu instructors are very energetic, and have a love for both the arts and teaching children
Greatest school around. I got my black belt there in American Karate now I am belting in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This is a place where you can really grow.
I recently pulled my kids out of the jiu jitsu program at holans, because of the sudden decline in quality of training. Literally from one week to the next the owner gets rid of the black belt instructor for bjj and gives no notice to anyone about his departure. Luckily for me my contract was up but not without paying one last month out of my agreement, but they can keep that money they obviously needed it more then my kids training.Unfortunately, my kids made friends with a lot of the students in their class who were not so lucky some of those kids were stuck in 2 to 3 year contracts with sub par jiu jitsu instructors who only got the opportunity to coach a kids class because they were willing to accept lower pay. Take this from me there is a difference between a black belt instructor and 2 sub par instructors. Anyone who appreciates the art like I have, would only have to attend one class like I had to endure before they decide that this is not a bjj class worth paying for let alone putting my kids through.Dont get me wrong I could careless whos name is on the building I signed my kids up because I believed my kids would get a quality instruction from a real black belt and they did, but I feel like a lot of parent were lured into 2 and 3 year contracts on the name of the former coach and then fired him. Im just here to leave a honest review about my experience and urge everyone to ignore the website because that black belt coach is no longer at holans...
I love the family environment. The instructors are amazing!
Hardest working instructors in the business and creating a fun place for students to call home.
My kids love the place!! Will recommend to ALL Parents!! What a great instructor!!!
This school is step in the right direction for your childs self esteem, discipline, and overall character development. The Instructors care about each student. They have an adult program that is made to get you off the couch and back to a healthy life style. The comradery that is shared between the adults is great, and friendships are made. Both the Tae Kwon Do and BJJ programs are top notch and growing. I recommend if you are looking for a martial arts school that you can grow and become more with then this is the place for you!
