Amazing facility! This is truly one of the best college recreation centers in our country. There is a large selection of fitness equipment, and a fun pool area for kids as well as a large Olympic pool area. There are indoor basketball courts and an indoor track. They also have a rock climbing wall and some healthy concessions. Our kids loved the large hot tub, the sauna and the steam room.

Avoid if you dont want COVID!Despite the Universitys policy of encouraging masking, no staff and almost no other people using the gym wore masks. No vaccine requirements. Crowded spaces and heavy breathing in close proximity makes this a dangerous place until COVID restrictions are put back in place.

The facility itself is cutting edge. The problem here is accessibility. As a UI student, free parking to use the gym is basically impossible, and since the pandemic it is harder than ever to actually schedule time here. Their limited slots fill up daily, and as a result theyve implemented a harsh two-strike policy if you miss a slot. For some reason you cant swipe your ID anymore, so the line to get in is typically out the door and requires twenty minutes of standing. Adapting to these strange times is hard for any business, but the CRWC is failing to stay relevant.

Amazing gym! I wish more universities took the time/money to build state of the art 4 story workout facilities and allowed the public to use them. Loved the track upstairs. Was very handy as I was visiting from out of town and needed a place to workout.

Review №17

I loved coming here when I was a student and the use of the facility was included in the tuition. Although its routinely busy, you can almost always find an open machine and/or floor space for your workout. I also had scuba training in the pools here and absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed it. The facilities were always kept orderly and clean, even with such high foot traffic on a daily basis.

Mad decent, the facilities are excellent and clean. The basketball courts were recently refinished and look amazing in addition to being great to play on. This place makes coming back to my hometown gym kind of depressing in comparison. The only negative in my opinion is the staff, who give off as unfriendly of an aura as any I’ve come across. Additionally, it seems odd that people with memberships can’t scan their IDs themselves as opposed to handing them to an employee to do. Seems like an antiquated way of scanning in. But otherwise a great place to workout with awesome modern facilities that few places can match

What a great place to workout. They have everything you need and more. The only flaw is sometimes there are swim meets on the weekend... and no locker rooms for the kids except the one the members use. Just a lot of kids. Otherwise, I love it.

One of the best facilities you can go to for health and fitness. They have 3 levels of work out equipment, a full track, basketball courts, two pools, a sauna and steam room, and spacious locker rooms. The membership can be pricey depending on if you’re affiliated with the university, but it can be worth it with how much you get from this gym.

Although if you’re not a student or employee of the university the rec is pretty expensive but for those of us that are connected the rec is a great place to work out. Certain times are busier than others but there’s a ton of equipment and a great variety of it. It fits all my workout needs and then some.

Amazing! Jaw-dropping and beautiful! Quite overwhelming at first. Anything you could wish for as far as workout equipment and recreational activities. I wish there were more clear signs pointing newcomers in the right direction. I did a good deal of wandering before I found where I was going. Be sure to bring a quarter to pay for a locker. Smoothie bar is also very good and inexpensive!

Three levels, pools, Jacuzzi, climbing wall, cafe... Everything youd want out of a gym. You have to pay for parking which is a bummer but it offers the most of any gym by far. The photos are from the member locker room which costs more. Its worth it for the quiet and the carpet--especially if you go daily or in the evenings/weekends.

Clean, well maintained, with a wide variety of equipment. Beautiful facility, I love being able to watch downtown traffic while I run. This is the nicest gym in town by far, but for a steep price. If you can, take advantage of the discount for getting sponsored by a student or faculty. Peak hours can be crowded, especially for weights, but Ive never been unable to find open cardio equipment.

Good pool but the people at the desk wouldnt let us in just because my friend didnt have an id? We asked why and they said its just the rules. Why would you need an id to swim it aint a bar. Had to walk all the way home and back again in 80 degree weather just to get his drivers license

Facilities are great. Only drawback is that they dont have enough water fountains or restrooms that are easy to access.Overall navigation could also be improved with a better map/ stairwell system.Glad that the rock wall is free for students - this can cost upwards of $10/use at any large city. Solid routes too that they try to change up every once in a while.

A little pricey for non-students, but if you can get an Iowa student to sponsor you you can get the student rate! Best rec center Ive ever been too. So state-of-the-art, even now (6 years after it opened). Can get a little busy/crowded during peak hours (evenings on weekdays during the school year), but this definitely drops off as the school year goes on. Also the smoothie cafe is great. Ill stop in even if Im not working out to get one (kickin kiwi - made with Splenda to save calories - is my favorite).
