Good coffee, creative fall menu, knowledgeable and friendly staff! Havent had a chance to check out their new cocktail bar (8pm-midnight at time of review) but the menu looks great!
Decent. Chai is a pre-mix. Dont really offer much in the food category. Some muffins or something would have been nice.
Barbershop side - Great barbers, good conversation, you can buy a limited selection of hair products here too. Prices are about average for a downtown Indy barber.Coffee side - good atmosphere, good drinks...I always ask what the barista recommends.
Yes! I am stoked to have a new coffee option in the neighborhood. Its great to be able to have a variety, and its within walking distance of work, right off the Cultural Trail. Ive been watching this place going and wondering what it would be like...and if the drip coffee I tried is any indication this spot will be around for a while. Very smooth and delicious. Plus the exposed brick and other design details are a nice touch. Steve and Dave were really personable and I wish them the best on this endeavor.I didnt need a haircut today, but Ill definitely be back for a cut next time I need some coffee.
Im not what you would call coffee place/house expert but I will say it was a nice little hole-in-the-wall to have a good/decent cup of coffee....the service was good and if Im in the area again anytime soon Ill definitely stop by and get another cup👍🏾
This review is about the coffee shop; they serve a very good, authentic cappuccino! Highly recommended!
I had an ice coffee but the place is definitely one to check out. Way better than boring Starbucks
Called on a whim to make an appointment for a fade and trim for a girl and the person on the phone was more than helpful. I placed my appointment online which was super easy. I arrived, asked for a fade in the shape of my mowhawk and my barber, Nick, explained to me the term and how hed do it. We went over everything and during the cut he checked in with me frequently about the do.Over all, I am SUPER pleased with the amount of attention he gave me, it never felt rushed, and the shop itself is super clean and friendly. I think I have found my new barber! Theyre cash only so be sure to bring that fat cash tip! Thanks, Nick!
I am so excited to see a place like this in Indy! Came home to visit my family for the holidays and drove downtown to check this place out. The coffee was great, Christina gave me an awesome haircut and held a fun conversation. They take walk-ins and appointments, and the coffee shop is a great place to pass any wait times. Can’t wait to come back!
They have very interesting flavors. The coffee shop has a cute ambiance!
I’ve seen more of these hidden treasures around town but I’ve never been to any that managed to mix ingredients so well! First of all, the staff is friendly and living their best life! The menu is intriguing and convinces the adventurous coffee drinker to try something new. I was blessed with an iced Mocha and Rosemary Latte. The mocha knocks politely but then the rosemary sneaks in afterward and reminds you of its invitation. But ever so subtle because the rosemary doesn’t want the spotlight. No, no. It becomes the backup vocals. The oohs and ahh’s.What a nice little Indy gem! Usually my typical Sunday mornings consist of hunting down any open local coffee joints after Mass.If you’re looking for a low key coffee joint with unique flavors, give this place a try. There’s something for everyone!
Nick is awesome. Everytime does a great job with my hair. Listens to what I want and cuts it perfect.
Ive been getting my haircut at Commissary for nearly two years and extremely happy with the service, quality of cut, and price. Kendall is a great guy and does a solid job.
This was a beautiful coffee shop and its soo surprising how this kind of café is in Indiana, its beautiful. The coffee there was actually better than I expected and the barista there is wonderful.the barber is just another story, its just perfect and everting was outstanding.I got a haircut which turned out really AMAZING, thanks to Nick for the haircut
Nick is an amazing barber who just gave me the best fade ever. 5 out of 5 stars.
Great haircut every time, and very friendly barbers. Im not a coffee guy but their offerings look really good if youre into it
Excellent service and coffee. The Bourbon Salted Carmel Latte was delicious. The facility is nicely done.
What a great place! I’ve been coming here to get my beard trimmed and haircut for the last year now and have loved every experience! It is such a cool concept to be able to get my beard trimmed and haircut while also spend some time at a quality coffee shop. They serve Tinker coffee and have a third wave coffee menu, which is great for those who don’t care for Starbucks and other coffee shops like them that love their sweet big overly sweet and milk filled drinks. Here you can enjoy well prepared coffee and tea!
A unique environment and one-stop-shop for self-care. The coffee and lattes are outstanding, but these barbers are the best in the business. Had my hair cut by everyone and recommend them to anyone I know
While I’ve never had the pleasure of having my haircut here, I can say that their coffee is amazing! Not only that but they are very inventive and are always trying new things! Constantly new drinks to try here. The staff is friendly and professional. Would highly recommend.
Excellent quality craft coffee and very accommodating staff
Awesome place. Split into two sides but they’re connected inside the building though so don’t freak out when you’re coming for coffee and walk into a barber shop. Bomb nitro cold brew and Brandon cuts the best fade in the city. Friendly staff and awesome vibes make this the ideal place to grab a coffee on the way to work or a beer after. Free 2-hour parking behind Needler’s means no excuse not to come here. Come here. Drink great coffee. Support local businesses.
This place is a hidden treasure. The baristas are super knowledgeable and passionate about their coffee products. Welcoming atmosphere, definitely worth the stop.
THE WORST haircut I have ever seen, I wish I could leave 0 stars. I dont know what the barbers definition of long is, but apparently that means like a quarter inch. My boyfriend went in and said keep it long and walked out with the same basic btch haircut that every guy age 15-45 has. Never ever coming here again. Im a girl and I get my hair cut better for half the price.
Great service. Jacqueline was great
Great haircuts at a fair price. I have had my haircut by Phil, Kendall, and one other barber whos name escapes me, and all of my haircuts turn out how I expect them to. They have great coffee and beer, too!
Jacqueline did an amazing haircut! Never going anywhere else in INdy! Great space, friendly people, and unparalleled service.
Eden is great. Lavender toasted walnut latte is a must have for fall
I dont usually do online reviews, but I feltI should after going to this place. I just moved to town and thought Id give this place a shot. Easily the best, sharpest haircut Ive had in quite some time. The attention to detail is impressive and you can tell these people take pride in their work. Phil was the guy I had, really nice guy who did a great job. Heck, the coffee next door is pretty good too. I definitely recommend this place.
Very clean, everyone does amazing work. Jacqueline gave me the coolest fade, cant wait for my next apt.
Professional hair stylists with a cozy coffee shop that allows you enjoy a nicely brewed coffee while waiting to get your haircut. Locally owned and operated. Overall, great place!
Good people. Good haircuts. But its literally impossible to get in. I have to find a new spot. I dont have time to wait 2 hours. Usually thats not even an option as they fill up for the day every single day. Tried 5 times in less than 2 weeks, but theres never a spot open.
Always delicious, Double Iced vanilla latte with oat milk never fails!
Another really cool, local coffee shop! This place is pretty small, so I dont know how conducive it is for meeting with people or for doing work, unless you are strategic about when to get there. The drinks we had were amazing and not only did they taste good, they were unique and interesting. Also, the branding here is on point. Well done.
Today was the second time I went to get a cut, and these guys are legit and killed it again (in the best way possible). No matter who you get, they all are some young talented people that will always make you feel more than welcome to be there and have you excited to show off your new cut. Definitely will not be going anywhere else while Im here in Indy. Try them out, you wont regret it!!
Cool Professional Staff, Great Vibes and Amazing, Amazing Cuts. Make Sure You Book Your Appointment.
Gorgeous little place nestled in on the corner, downstairs.Great coffee and people, will return!
Commissary is the best place for coffee in Indianapolis, and Indy has a strong coffee scene. It begins with their espresso, which is prepared on a Slayer machine by excellent and skilled baristas. The espresso, served with sparkling water and dark chocolate, is often my reason for visiting, but their specialty drinks are the true differentiator.Using the fantastic espresso as the foundation, Commissarys baristas build truly unique creations, including the pineapple ube latte, the espressoda, and others. The beauty of the drinks mimics that of the best chef-driven restaurants - while I dont understand how the creators had the insight to combine the ingredients, Im glad that I have the opporuntity to enjoy it. The layered flavors complement each other, never cloying or overpowering. The baristas are great, the ambience, half-sunk below the sidewalk outside is wonderful. While I make coffee at home most mornings, sometimes I like to treat myself to something special. You should as well.
Ive literally got my haircut all over the world and have run into some of the best barbers the world could possibly have to offer. I just moved to indy. And I was looking for a downtown shop . I walked in here. And met the most talented and friendly barber I have ever met . Im really particular about barbers . And I finally found one Im happy with after going to a few shops around the city and doing trial and error. I wanted to book another appointment with him. And found out that hes no longer there. That was my only draw to this shop . The coffee tastes stale in my opinion. And I just sense a overall pretentious vibe there . This place is a over priced brick walled Brooklyn style wannabe hipster hut. They lost my business .
Perfectly Indie. Perfectly Indy.
I’m so happy that the Commissary is finally open! It was well worth the wait. The coffee (namely the Apple Jack latte I tried) was some of the best coffee I’ve had to date. The space is so unique, and the exposed brick really sets a nice tone. The baristas clearly know what they are doing and are extremely friendly and personable. I will definitely be a returning customer!
Cute place, nice staff. The vanilla lattes were very delicious; however, I found it a bit off-putting when she said your total is $13.79 for only two of them!! :o
Christina is the best barber in Indiana
Atmosphere amazing! Took a bit to get all of our coffees. So have some patience and time to wait
Great Coffee, great haircuts (like seriously good), and even better people! This place is worth every penny and then some.I HIGHLY recommend this place for coffee and / or a haircut.
The Barber Shop is great, they have very skilled employees and I would recommend it to everyone. They do have walk-ins but I once had to wait two hours, that being said, the haircuts are so good I waited two hours to get one. Reservations are very easy to make, just do that if you dont have time to kill. The coffee, is alright. They might try to make it fancier than it needs to be. The espresso was sour for some reason. Id recommend to stay away from their espresso drinks and stick to drip and tea.
Best barber shop in town. Same people as Brick and Mortar, but this one has walk-ins and parking. Appointments are available if you want a particular barber, but you can get a haircut with any of them and it will be great. Did I mention you can drink beer/coffee while you wait??
Check out this new Barber in town! I had my hair cut by Phil and he did a fantastic job. Great attention to detail, ambiance, and conversation. I even had something that I decided I wanted a little different, came in the next day, and he gladly fixed it (it was a personal preference thing). Ill be returning for another haircut and coffee soon.
Top quality Barber shop in Downtown Indy. Got me in thirty minutes before closing and didnt rush the job or do it sloppily, like some chains might do. Complete professionals putting in great work. Ill definitely be back again!
Stopped in for a Sunday coffee and scone. Both were spot on! Prices were reasonable and service was quick and friendly.
Great place to get a cut and great people.
Cool concept. Cafe + barber shop. Great coffee, cool vibe. Haircut was nice, pretty solid barber experience. I’ll be going again.
Christina is the best barber in town.
Such a great addition to the neighborhood! Coffee was top notch, and I love that they rotate inventive latte flavors. Inviting atmosphere with free WiFi and outlets available to plug in your device. They also have a loyalty punch card, which I always think is a nice addition.
Such a cute place! Coffee was unique (kind of pricey) but good
Great place!
I usually get my haircut by Kendall or Brandon. They always do an awesome job, I’ve never left unhappy. The shop is very clean and neat, I couldn’t see myself going anywhere else.
Commissary is my favorite coffeeshop on mass ave. The cold brew is great, the tea list is phenomenal, and the presentation is always lovely. I had the sage lavender iced tea, and it had a complex, but smooth flavor. They also carry pastries if you need a snack, and both patrons and baristas always look stylish and cool.
Great vibe. Cool space. Top-notch barbers. And with coffee and beer, you don’t even have to be in need of a haircut to hang out here.
The boss and me go underground to chat business. You know, catch up on the whos who and the whats what. He runs through bookings. Says we gotta burn hotter. We talk about pulling our guys off utilities for a while and stickin em on those showbiz types. A couple of strangers come in behind us, so we move across the room. This aint no time to be taking chances after all. Still, somethings off. The rooms a bit stuffy if you follow me. See now the boss, hes funny but he dont play games. Guy orders a kombucha and takes a sip. Lets split he says. We got work to do.
Great pourovers. Creative & awesome seasonal drinks. Super friendly & knowledgable staff. Excellent service. 10/10.
Love the vibe of this place! Kendall gave me the best haircut I’ve had in years. Highly recommended.
By far the best haircut Ive had. Phil is a haircutting machine, and a great dude. 10/10 would recommend.
Good downtown option. Relaxed vibe, free parking in the Needlers parking lot is nice!
Some of the finer coffee Ive had in the Capital area, and a cozy if cramped little spot. Worth a stop, especially if you are of the 26% of americans who still drink coffee black! Not that they dont have the sugary stuff that attracts most peeps! Just sayin yall
Great little coffee shop attached to a barber shop and right on the Cultural Trail. The staff is super friendly and makes your latte just like you want it...including the temperature...Excellent!
Great staff, always friendly and accommodating. The coffee is great, I highly suggest the apple rosemary latte!
Cant comment on the barista but Brandon gives the best haircut in town
I love this place. Great caffeine, beer, hospitality and in a historical setting on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. Thanks for popping up in my neighborhood !
Award-winning coffee! Great music! Plenty of electricity! Stay for a haircut and shave!
Great prices on beard trims and they give you the full service
Great experience here. Friendly staff and amazing coffee. Presentation of the coffee is top notch.
Best barber in town!
Very cool garden-level space with good style and plenty of seatingoptions. High quality espresso drinks (the pear and maple latte was killer) made by legit baristas who are also quite friendly.
Good lattes. I also like that they have seasonal drinks, not many coffee shops downtown do.
Absolutely love this place!
Friendly service, delicious lattes, cozy atmosphere! Also happy to see they are open on Sundays!
5 Star service, haircuts, and conversation. Coffee and beer now available pre or post haircut. Lockerbie parking lot available.Yet to run into a negative experience with these guys! Highly recommend
Sleek modern place to get great coffee and drinks, neat environment and large garden level windows for people watching.
Opinions are my own, The barbershop/coffee is astatically pleasing on the eyes but when it simply comes to hair I’m just not a fan. Call me old-fashioned but the barbers should be the major draw and the refreshments.I come from the southside of Chicago and I’m used to razors lines and taper fade with different guard play. Meaning they comb it down with a flat brush and use different guards while cleaning up your taper so you can see the levels. It’s more like a great clips with coffee and beer and that’s just not me. It’s just culturally different for me I’m not Fan. Also $30 for 20minute is hot trash for hair cut, rush job.If you got guy in the hood stay there. I hate cheating on my barber.
Very talented and friendly baristas and the ambiance is awesome with the exposed brick and decor. The barber shop is also top notch with extremely talented and friendly staff. Highly recommend both!
Great people, great coffee!
Best espresso and haircut in the city - what else do you want?
Great coffee, good place to work for a few hours, very friendly people.
This place knows how to make real coffee. Cortado served with small piece of dark chocolate and seltzer water, simply perfect.
