I stumbled upon Dons Barber shop while I was temporarily living in Independence. Two words sum it all up: Old School! Corey (I believe the current owner) took over from his grandfather (Don?). He knows how to cut mens hair in the old way! I prefer a tight skin fade, and I have a hard time finding a barber who can do it - even some of the barbers at Ft. Leavenworth seem to struggle, but he gets it every time! The fact that he is not afraid to use a razor helps quite a lot! With the exception of the televisions on the walls the place has the vibe of an old school barber shop like where my dad took me to get my haircut when I was a boy in Detroit (If you dont know what I am talking about, you should watch Gran Torino!). I have since moved back to Saint Joseph, but it is worth my time (and gas money) ate drive to Independence to get my haircut at Dons! I cannot recommend this place enough! During certain times you will likely have to wait - maybe even up to an hour - so plan accordingly and bring something to work on, but the wait is well worth it!!!

Always good conversation. Its a busy little shop, but he gets through it. If I lived closer I would be there for a haircut every week..

Corey is the only barber my brothers & I have gone to since we found out about him. He’s always down to talk if you’re feeling it or not if you aren’t. I’ve never had a bad haircut here & even when it gets packed, everyone has a great time telling stories young, old, white, black, & Hispanic. From what I’ve seen, he’s great with kids as well. I also love that he doesn’t do appointments

Great cut and conversion. Growing up dad and I would wait for at least an hour to have Don cut our hair. I remember the adults having conversations and being bored. Now as a adult I understand what he passed on to me.

Great straight razor cut best around and amazing price. You will have to wait if you are not there when he opens for about 30 to 60 min, but well.worth the wait

Don is a nice guy who is dedicated to giving everyone an experience above and beyond anyone else in town. Shaves cost $10, hair cuts cost $12, only accepts cash and doesnt tax anything. Affordable for budget people. Wait times can be long but overall worth it. Im a customer for life.

He pays so much attention to detail. Quick efficient haircuts, and extremely affordable. Ill never go back to a commercial salon.

Hours are flaky, many times you have to drive by to find out if hes closed for the day/weekend. The owner is cocky and I dont think his grandfather would have tolerated it when it was his shop. I sure wouldnt be a regular if I had to put up with that. For the most part his cuts are good but there are times he didnt follow my request although he had on before and after visits.

$12 haircut! Do amazing fades, and handle children excellently. I get my military fade cut here because no one else seems to understand what a medium fade is. I will always get my hair cut here

I go there all the time for my haircuts he does a good job he knows what hes doing and he doesnt ask too much questions about how you want your hair cut done once he becomes familiar with you he knows what type of haircut you always get and he just do it and hes Fair on his price to get a haircut done

I have been here 4 times now and the man that runs it is very nice and good @ what he does. Its worth the 11$ ( I have now been coming here consistently for about 8 mons maybe, anyways. This guy is a great person and deserves more than $11 to cut hair and trim your beard etc.) Im noone special but I pay 20 becauae he does all that exactly how I want it with a smile on his face the whole dam time. Thats worth it if not anything else in my 📖.

One of the greatest barbers if not greatest man Ive ever met, you can talk with him about anything and hell keep up with you. Along with one of the only straight razor shaves still available and standard razor on the back of the neck makes him my go to barber any day.
