No complaints. Love the fact that it is about 5 minutes away from my home. I usually go when it is not crowded, and I mainly only use treadmill and bikes… may make use of the pool once I lose weight, lol. My only dissatisfaction is having to reuse cloth towels to wipe down machines….not sure if this has changed since the pandemic…I prefer single-use paper towels. I will find out soon, as I have recently renewed membership since pandemic.
It’s an ok for a university gym- just mediocre. Equipment is older, and employees don’t seem to do anything even if you ask them something. Floor cleaner is noxious, and I have to leave when they use it. Pool is nice if you can breathe outside. No masks required, no social distancing, no capacity limits.
It has a really nice setup for cardio, heavy weight, swimming, and other outdoor activities.
So many lanes, chlorine pool - but I thought it was salt water, heated year round, outdoors with big open skies to see the moon as you swim. This is an amazing pool thats available 5:30AM to 9PM. Thats huge! The rec. center is filled with college grads, so no meat heads or valley girls. I pay $28 a month and know its a treasure.
Nice clean.Good big space.Outdoor Swimming pool all year long perfect temperature.
Older machines, nice staff, overall vibe is nice. Im adding pictures because I get a lot of questions about what its like inside. Theres a weight lifting/machine area, a yoga room where they hold classes (but classes cost extra), a cardio machine area, a racquetball court that requires prior reservations you can do I believe at the front desk or online, and locker rooms with toilets, showers, and obviously lockers. Outside theres a tennis court I couldnt get a good picture of, a basketball court, and a pool. To my knowledge there is not a volleyball court. In the machine/weight lifting area there are also ping pong tables. If its your first time (only current students and staff can go), walk in and youll immediately see a desk. Talk to them and theyll sign you up. Always bring your student ID or you cant get in. After initially signing up you can go anytime you want (during their hours which I find to be reasonable)- just scan your ID to get in. If you want to do classes, talk to the front desk people. I also believe theres a personal trainer available if you so desire.
The best recreation center in my life so far!
Great place to workout for employees and students. Lots of options for weights, machines, cardio and recreational activities.
Beautiful place and the people are so friendly.
Best pool ever!
This is my gym. The price is phenomenal and it is so clean. What I really love is the Olympic pool ... it is an outdoor pool but it is always kept at 82 degrees which is too cold for me in the winter but great in the fall and spring. They have lots of free weights, heavy weights and hydraulic weight machines.
Amazing staff, top notch amenities and vibrant atmosphere.
This wonderful place has been discovered. During rush hour, you may wait for equipment. If you schedule yourself around the busy times, this place is great. They have a filtered water bottle fountain, too.
Clean, chill, professional vibe here. Amenities are quality
There is a nice gym and a great pool and it is not crowded.
Excellent facility. Clean and well maintained. Beautiful large outdoor pool.
I spend at least 8 hrs a week here. I love everything about it. Havent tried the heated pool yet but its on my bucket list.
Best pool in Houston. Excellent water quality due to sand filtration system and expert pool managers on staff. Water temps are pretty consistent year round, between 79F - 83F, winter or summer. Showers and locker rooms are spacious and clean. Swimsuit wringer and hair dryers available. Lots of other exercise options available; from machines and weights to courts (basketball, tennis, racquetball...).
Great gym for UT students and TMC employees at an affordable price.
I love this gym! I am a UT alumni and love this perk. It is small but has everything from all kinds of cardio machines, great weight room and they also offer classes. They have a great pool and lockers and showers as well, dont expect this to be like other gyms that are franchised, they dont have child care or things of that nature
Overall it’s a great gym for the price.Pros:- Has mostly everything you’ll need for a solid workout.- As mentioned by several others, the pool, basketball court, tennis courts and racquetball court are nice perks.- The facility is kept pretty clean.- Staff members are friendly.Cons:- It can get pretty crowded at times, particularly in the evenings, and the weight area is already somewhat cramped with machines.- Doesn’t open until 5:30am (8am on weekends)
It limits its membership to TMC employees, UT Med students and graduates. Despite the fact that I am a medically retired Nurse for the US Army, they wouldnt allow me to rejoin the Wellness Ctr.
Ive been a member here for 10 years. Its a solid, super convenient gym for those living in the medical center, especially for the price.Of note, for those who play basketball or swim, the basketball court is uncovered and the pool is outdoors. However, the pool is heated and Olympic size, and the court is regulation size.
Local guy local delivery UT Health Recreation people here are very professional very friendly very courtesy very knowledgeable they have a wide variety of recreational things to do here places clean and nice inside get a chance check them out
There are some machines I wish they had here, but they cover most body groups well enough! Worth the money if you are a UT employee or student. Excellent pool! No sauna or Spa area though.Update: I have had to deal with so many incredibly rude staff here that I ultimately had to switch gyms. Other disappointing things: bathrooms are always gross and not cleaned well, lockers have trash in them, and machines are often broken and take weeks to be fixed. Would not recommend this gym.
My wife and I moved to Med Center area and were checking out the fitness club options nearby. We first went to 2-hr fitness at Rice Village to see the facility only to be met by a mean lady at the front desk. Since my wife is a UT employee, we went to the UT Rec Center. We were pleasantly surprised to have a entirely opposite experience there. Embry explained to us the various membership options at the center. He was really nice and patient that we have decided to take the membership.
Great facility. But the creepy guy that works there in afternoons really needs to stop cleaning the clean locker rooms. It is very creepy dude. And I’m not the only one who has noticed.
Great staff and outstanding facility. The pool is heated. The equipment is always clean. It does get busy during the afternoon but between 10-1 it’s very dead and lots of open space. Basketball court and tennis court in back uncovered.
Great rec facility, has everything you need. The staff isnt always the most knowledgeable, but theyre mostly students. The facilities are in good condition, and the rates are cheap if you qualify for a membership
I have been using this gym since I was in nursing school at UT. I love it here, it has everything you would need, its just a great little work out place. Not your typical gym because its not a chain, its a Rec center for affiliates. Dont expect things like sauna or daycare here.
Very clean and well appointed gym. Offers a variety of classes with a pass. Personal training is available. Pool is nice now thats its remodeled.
Nice and clean in good condition and location easy to find
Excellent gym! It has a lot of cardio machines! And the pool is incredible! The price is very convenient specially if you are a student. Im enjoying my work out every day!
Great place to lift if you have a membership or know someone who has one. Only has two tennis courts but you can usually get on without a problem. Not too hard to find a basketball game to jump in to. There are a lot of cardio machines and two raquetball courts. The pool is nice but under renovation right now.
Nice cardio / weight areas. The pool is outdoor, so in the summer can be too hot. No sauna. Large locker rooms.
Great gym with an Olympic swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts and big workout zone. My favorite to go.
Great place to workout if you can get a membership. Just dont go after work, unless you want a crowd. A 5th star for me would be kid care; but Im being bais on that.
Great gym with an outdoor pool and all the amenities you need to get your workout on. Keep in mind most of the members are of college age.
Facility has just about every amenity you can think of. Well taken care off and is clean.
The pool here is amazing. Was just resurfaced in the spring of 2017. The staff is amazing.
Fantastic outdoor aquatics facility. 11 ft deepend that is polo ready. 10 lap lanes with 6 ft lanes
Nice gym, lots of squat racks. Clean. Unfortunately popular.
For students standard equipments nice pool
Good gym. Good equipment. Nice pool and classes.
Very complete with the right equipments. Nice crew & very gentle.
Clean, nice pool and locker room..lacks cycling classes otherwise great
Nice and clean! Very well managed!
Great location, great pool, should have more free classes and maybe a daycare.
Five star if it has a badminton court.
Clean, efficient well maintained rec center
Wonderful place to work out
Clean spacious well equipped
Great place to workout if youre a student in the med center
One of the best gyms . Especially after renovation of the pool area
Really nice gym. Lots of lifting equipment
Great place with decent price.
Nice little gym in the area. Pool is bomb.
Great for students. Only crowded at rush hours, before 9 and after 5.
Nice and inexpensive place for workout and swimming.
Its a complete gym, only thing I dont like about it is they dont receive credit cards for payment, and closes early by 10 pm
But it is closed until further notice 😭😭😭
Great gym for med center students and employees.
Very convenient, clean, and well managed recreation center.
Its not fancy but has everything, you can swim shoot hoops work out, they have classes too
