I have curly hair - type 2c/3a. Some fine, some course. I’ve struggled for years to find someone who knows how to cut my hair. After mostly mediocre and some butchering, I’ve finally found my hair stylist.Melvin is great. He looks at my hair, tells me what he’s going to do, and does it. No questions of how I want it layered, framed, etc. He makes a suggestion, and rolls with it. He’s full of helpful tips and tricks to make my curls standout. I cannot say enough good things about my haircuts with him. He’s on the pricier end but honestly, after struggling to find a hair stylist, I’m not going back.

Knowledgeable beauty technicians. I had to remove my purple hair color. I got a color correction it took 45 minutes under the hood heater / dryer. Wash, shampoo, head massage, conditioner, dyson blow dry, and hair style. I’m impressed with the final results. My hair looks good and feels healthy. Thank you Linda and Scarlet.

Not sure how this salon got such high review rating because my expierence was everything but that. The moment I sat down in the chair the colorist was agitated. The person who scheduled my appointment told me they put me down for a full color. Instead I arrived to be talked down to that my appointment was for a partial color. I let it go but honestly the cut I received looks like someone cut it at home. And for 2 my color is not anything out of this world. Especially spending $400. I will be going to a new person next time. One who has some kind of people skills that dont make you feel as they dont even want your business. I was looking for a permanent salon to go to and THIS ONE IS NOT IT. But Whitney in waxing is fabulous. Only person/thing I cared for. Oh and I tipped the 2 hair ladies cause I didnt want to make anyone mad while I was there. But after looking my hair over. Since I wasnt offered a mirror to look at the back of my head I wish I had kept my whole tip! So aggravating!

Kennedy was amazing!!! She did an amazing job. I love my hair! I’m growing out my hair from a pixie cut and it has gone through so many phases. I finally look brand new again with my modern hair cut. I also want to mention that I felt very safe with the partitions in place, mandatory mask wearing and constant washing of hands by everyone on the team. Definitely recommend this place and will surely go back to get my hair done with Kennedy!

When you have curly hair it’s always nerve-racking to see a different stylist than what you’re used to. Catherine was wonderful the best wash and massage I’ve ever gotten. She took time to listen to my concerns and explain the cutting process. We had to cut more than what I originally thought due to bleach damage in order to give my hair a fighting chance to get healthier. Overall I am extremely pleased and will see her in December for my second appointment.

After my long-time stylist decided to go to nursing school, I decided to try out Phils Barber Shop at the recommendation of a friend. From the time I booked to the time I walked out the door, I felt something qualitatively different about my experience here. After booking my appointment online, I received a series of text messages confirming my date, time, and stylist and posing several simple (Y/N) health-related questions meant to minimize possible exposure to COVID by both staff and patrons. When I arrived, Natalie welcomed me in the outdoor seating area, briefly examined me, gently instructed me to sanitize my hands, and showed me to Jordan, my stylist for the day. Ive been with the same stylist for years, so I didnt really know how to describe exactly how I wanted my hair. Jordan walked me through a number of options and, after some discussion, went to work. Jordan did not disappoint. The entire experience in the chair reminded me of an elevated, old school barber shop experience. By the time I was done, I had a haircut that I loved, and both my face and head tingled from the products, hot towel, and gentle massages. I really enjoyed my experience here, and I would recommend both Phils Barber Shop and Jordan to others. American Express is accepted here, and customers can tip on cards.

I went to J salon yesterday for dyeing my hair, easy color job. The lady said I have 20 years experience for hair color but when I wake up today and look at the mirror I saw a lot of gray hair still between my hair, so disappointed.I differently gonna charge back on my credit card.

Patrick is awesome! Im new in town and needed to find a trustworthy colorist for my curls and spontaneous gray roots, that appeared out of nowhere, before the new stay-at-home order went into effect. He is super knowledgeable on curls and hooked me up with a fresh overall color. Im super happy with my hair, his product recommendations, plus he was great to talk with too! 🎨🤙

He was on time even if I was his first client of the day.They had very clear instructions to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and you had someone actively cleanings. Would of left a better review due to them doing a great job on my wifes hair. But my wife was dealing with alot and the last thing on her mind was I need to cancel/rescedule my appointment. They want to now charge a fee of half the appointment on top of the actual appointment and add a credit card on file are you kidding me? Does this business not understand life happens sometimes? Thats how you lose customers. But they do hair good ill give them that but customer service very poor.

I love getting my hair cut and styled at J Salon with Joe! It’s a luxurious experience and great service. The hair wash & scalp massage is such a nice treat! I’ve been hesitant to get my haircut due to Covid, but this salon has gone above and beyond to take extra precautions and I felt completely at ease and safe the entire time.

So I went to Phil’s twice, and like the vibe and hipster types of cuts they seem to specialize in, but was shocked to hear my first stylist casually use the word “chink” when talking to me, an Asian American—and we are living in Hawaii. To be fair, he did not say it with malice, but the lack of wokeness was shocking in light of the times we are living in and the cultural landscape of where we are living. Some won’t care and think this is not a big deal, but since I have a choice, I’d rather spend my money (and it’s a significant amount for me) somewhere I feel more comfortable. Apologies I wanted to speak to the person in question or management quietly about this, but didn’t have the chance as it was crowded and busy when I last went. I was very happy at how seriously J Salon has taken this pandemic and put all of their safety measures into place. I felt at ease and Joanne as always was considerate to how anxious I was feeling and made me feel very comfortable. I had an appointment with Kennedy at 6:45pm on a weekday evening. I was going for a pretty drastic change in hair length and had questions about how to maintain healthy hair (I have very fine and thin hair). Kennedy was great with our whole interaction! I never felt rushed despite the late appointment, and we had great conversation while she worked on me. She answered all my questions and explained her whole process to me as we went along. I left with much healthier hair and new knowledge of how to take care of it. In total I paid about $200 for the cut, treatment, and new shampoo and conditioner. The cost is high, but so is the quality!

Joanne was my stylist; she made no effort to communicate with me and develop rapport, and only spoke to me when trying to sell products. Doesn’t make for a very good sales person. She also left half way through my hair cut to go do something, handing me over to another stylist. She did not communicate any of this, and seemed disinterested in me as a client the whole time I was there. I was really disappointed with the whole experience.

Ive been going to J-salon for several years, they had moved 3 times and I’m stil with them. I will follow them everywhere they go! There service is top notch. Yes its a bit pricey however you get what you pay for! Catherine is my absolute favorite stylist. She is very professional as well as personable. She has a gift of cutting your hair! Joanne Roa is a very talented hair stylist who changed my life for the better. For my whole lifetime, Ive asked stylists for long U-shaped layers but there has been nobody able to cut my hair the way I have wanted it to look - until Joanne. I have lived in New York City and now Tokyo so I have been to many good salons with many great stylists. I have to say that Joanne is the best not only for her hair cutting skills but for her hair coloring skills too. She chose a very beautiful color for my hair that I was not familiar with and would not have asked for on my own. Since my return from my visit to J Salon in Honolulu Ward Village, there have been endless friends, colleagues and relatives whom generously compliment my new look. A few even said I look 10 years younger. Everyone says I look amazing and that they love my cut and color. Naturally my confidence has increased and my daily life has been more positive due to the self improvement. As my colorist then and now one of the most trusted stylists that I will see at J Salon. I have short hair and Joe has trained all his stylist to professional consistency with a creative modern touch. I literally cannot trust any other salon with my hair. I made that mistake once and won’t do it it again. I come from Kauai every 10-12 weeks and will only come to this Salon as no one can touch their skills. It’s worth every penny.

The physical layout of the salon is great: 16 or 20 foot high ceilings (my guess, but I am bad at estimating heights), lots of natural light through the floor to ceiling windows, good layout, friendly staff. But, fundamentally, I go there because my hairdresser of over 25 years is there and, as you all know, its easier getting divorced and finding a new husband than it is to find a new hairdresser.

Went in not sure of the cut or look i wanted, gave creative direction to Stephanie and the haircut turned out great. Have been going back for a few months now.

Ive gotten my hair cut here with Anthony twice, and I have been very satisfied with the look of the haircut each time. The first haircut was a lot higher maintenance and it looked incredible. I got compliments on it often. For the second haircut I needed something simpler, and he delivered just as well. I highly recommend him.

Catherine has been my stylist for 14 years and and she makes my hair so beautiful. I adore her! Other perks at J Salon- a nice refreshing tea or latte and (my favorite) a heavenly scalp massage. Booked last minute for a Shave and Haircut. Such a neat space, clean and professional. Anthony gave me such a detailed and excellent haircut, but the true treat was the strait razor shave. Such precision and detail, so relaxing. I’ll be back again.

They call him Anthony Scissor Hands, YaBoiAnthony, Loopercutz and many more legendary names, but to me, he will be the only barber to touch my hair while Im stationed here.But anyways, the shop is professional and so are the barbers. Haircut prices aint bad because if your girlfriend asked you if you noticed anything different with her hair, you wouldnt know she took two inches off. However, at this place, theres a big difference at the same price. Will recommend this place to anyone!

I’ve been getting haircuts from J salon/Phil’s Barber Shop for about 4 years and don’t plan on going anywhere else! The past two visits, I’ve had Anthony cut my hair.
