Pros:Nicely renovated, pet friendly, friendly office receptionists, maintenance staff (Bert) and Landscaping Team.Cons:SAFTEYMANAGEMENT (Ms.Fanny and Barbie)the worst follow up and communication!! LOCATION This place has a HIGH rate of crime, Literally Honolulu Police Department there almost evertime with multiple car units 5+, tenants fighting-domestic violence, drug use and dealing. 1 Parking stall per unit- street parking is a nightmare, other tenants parking in my assigned stall. gates NEVER work so homeless and rift raft wander in stealing. One time my shoes and slippers off my second floor balcony. Multiple units were broken into in broad daylight before Christmas 2020. The buildings are poorly positioned too close together back to back that the next building tenants have no regard for anyone watching TV blaring loud late at night until the next morning, they yell profanity when watching games, playing loud music inappropriate for kids.Almost everyone smokes outside their door and balcony either cigarettes or weed. Everyone shares water and trash bill - some units in my building and others have multiple families 10+ people, buildings water heater broke down 3 times within a year-one time for days without water...Lights off the side of the building for the parking lot out for months resulting in my car broken into twice and multiple tenants break ins and vandalism.Washers and dryers half the time never work properly, someone took my clothes out to dry their clothes and put mine back in after time expired. Some neighbors with dogs dont pick up after their pets leaving poo mines all over. The park next door is always over crowded even during the pandemic very noisy, and the traffic getting in an out is even more crazy. People at the stop light playing loud music, revving their engines at all times of the day and night.Security from 4-12pm was not that proficient, They arrive late purposely and when everything is settled down they tell you theres no activity at that moment but theyll monitor. Some neighbors even complained that their rents being raised.. They charged me outrageous rates for cleaning when we moved out and threatened to take me to collections.Although I pleaded and reported to the management, I even emailed a letter of my grievances and experiences, all they could say is that management has changed and there was no evidence so sorry. They did as a small gesture gave me a break on one cleaning fee which was never cleaned prior to moving in. so Thanks!!??My honest opinion, Definitely the worst place Ive ever rented in my entire life. My family and I are SO HAPPY to have left Waena Apts. With ALL the anxiety and stress from there, you couldnt pay me to live there ever again. I paid my balance just to get out and learn from my mistake.I pay $700 more now at our new place but saftey peace of mind with a rental property that is honest is worth it. Good luck and God Bless..
Worst decision Ive made in my life was moving here!!! Now Im paying 5 grand from breaking the lease from several horrible situations Ive dealt with while living there. Horrible and extremely unhappy!!
Was skeptical to move due to so many negative comments but we gave it a shot. From the beginning Sanjay helped us by showing a few model units. We immediately fell in love with the spacious lanai! Application process was a breeze. On our move in day the manager Barbie left a hand written welcome notes with some chocolates which I thought was very sweet! The person who sweeps outside was immediately so friendly and our neighbors are nice. We love it!! Thank you Waena team💗
So far been here three weeks. Not happy.Parking spots are terrible. Maintenance turn around time takes too long. Your mail gets stolen, parcel lockers are given wrong keys by USPS postal workers. And the list of rules to live within the facility are a laundry list long. Most of the people living here are either military or section 8. Two times my packages were given to wrong address. I now have to buy PO Box because I have no confidence in the competency of the postal worker. After two weeks living here already finding nest of roaches building up. Called leasing office they said one week to get it down. That’s unsat, if you’re looking only for good price then rent here. If more than this is not the place to rent don’t recommend. Lots of homeless, poverty and other unsavory activities occurring here. Don’t let pricing real you in.
Ernie & his Maintenance crew amazing, work order requests completed in a timely manner except when vacating unit, could be lack of communication from office; noise factor if living close to playground unbearable; didnt realize it was a housing complex until moved in & had no choice but to live below our normal standards; appreciative to be tenants at 1st since we were in a rush to find a rental; water billed monthly 4 amount of tenants on lease regardless how many actually in unit, husband in hospital 4 a month & still had to pay full bill (so did our neighbors & they were deployed). To anyone contemplating moving there: good luck & wish you well.
This place is horrible! The neighbors are loud, the kids around here run around without any supervision and are screaming at all hours of the day and night. The laundry facilities are not enough for the amount of tenants that live here. There are roaches and when you ask the front to spray for them they never come. The cops are here almost every weekend for various domestic situations. You get one parking spot without the ability for other roommates to use your spot unless they want to “register” their vehicle with the front office for an additional $150! The homeless people walk in and out of the gates that don’t work half the time! Oh and your clicker that is supposed to open the gate, when it is working, doesn’t work half the time either so you have to hope that someone is going in before you or that there is a gate guard at the entrance. People don’t always pick up after their pets here either. If you don’t smoke weed you still get to smell it. Those are just the things I can think of off the top of my head! Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place if you want to live in any semblance of peace and quiet!
Please don’t waste your time with this place. The only good thing is Bert and the maintenance crew.Courtney the manager does not take any responsibility for Waena but blames its problems on the tenants. First off, the trash smells from my second story apartment, the security gates are often broken, and the stairwell lights are often broken even after notifying maintenance. Their solution to broken gates are chaining them closed which dangerous because there are no other exits on this side of the complex. Secondly, the washers are always broken even when the company who maintains the washers have been notified. There are 80-100 apartment units with 3 working washers. Again, Courtney denies Waena any responsibility. I chose to pay more for rent here due to the onsite laundry. I have never been offered any monetary compensation or any solutions for a feature I pay for. Third, we got locked IN the apartment. Courtney had the nerve to tell me this wasnt an emergency maintenance or the leasing office’s problem. She told me to call a locksmith. My neighbors and I took off the entire locking mechanism and was still locked in. I pay $1750 a month an expected that a working door was included in that price. Courtney did not want to let Waena apartments take any responsibility and insisted I was in the wrong for calling emergency maintenance. Fourth, maintenance had a mandatory replacement of window screen in favor of metal screens due to several break-ins. They left metal scraps and shards over our shoes and floor. My roommate ended up with a painful metal splinter in their foot due to these being left. The leasing office was notified and nothing was done. I’m still considering a lawsuit due to injury is appropriate. Someone was injured because of the direct actions of Waena apartment. I am extremely displeased that Waena has never tried to make it right. I am currently looking for new housing.
Money pit. Seek residence elsewhere. Especially if you are military. It’s all a big scam. Laundry washers are always broken. Theft and other petty crimes occur often. Even inside the gate it has happened. Security is clearly in on all the crimes. Don’t bother being sold on their special deals. Long term you are still wasting your money on a glorified section 8 housing. Don’t believe me, plenty of former residences that will concur with this statement. Parking is trash too. Open spots but they act like they can’t offer the parking spot for cash value. Literally one parking stall is being used by the leasing office when that spot can be used by a resident. Only two stars because of location to town... nothing further to add.
It has its noisy moments, yet where doesnt really. The volume levels and durations are not ridiculous or hindering to my peace. The administration assistant and maintenance staff are absolutely AMAZING! The location is incredibly close to most main points in town. By vehicle or foot. I do both frequently. I enjoy coming home and being home at all points of throughout the day.
Like the apartment complex the people are very friendly here. They keep the landscaping well manicured. The maintenance staff is very friendly. I had the opportunity of having Bert come to my apartment and he was very pleasant and explained everything to me. I dont feel I have to watch him when he is done he will let me know and if I feel the need to stick around and watch what he is doing and ask questions then he doesnt mind that also. Carmel Partners should be glad to have Bert on their team!!
I just renewed my lease for another year for my 3-BR ground floor bi-level garden apartment. It is centrally located, next to fresh foods market, a river runs by it, sited next to three temples and Foster Botanical Gardens with rare trees from the world over.It is well maintained complex, with great landscaping. Most of all, I see it is well managed, as evidenced by the responsiveness of the maintenance crew when I need assist. In particular, got recent help from Bert and James who promptly responded to address maintenance issues. They are service-oriented and competent and makes for this no-worry residency a real pleasure here in paradise.
If I could give less than a star... I would. IF you have a family, Roommates, are in the Military, or like living a peaceful life, this place is NOT FOR YOU. I hope you only have one car, because they give you one spot. Car will be towed almost weekly because towing companies literally feel like it down here. Finding parking has got to be one of the most difficult things to do when living here. If you work a night job... Good luck sleeping during the day because it is loud here at all times. Horrible location if you want to feel safe too. A whole prostitution ring just right down the road. You wont feel safe walking down the road any time just after 9pm. Good luck if you want to live here. Not only do you have to pay rent... But you have to pay to use the washing machines and the water that everyone uses for it...
In this part of Honolulu, it can be a bit troublesome but Waena Apartments is a protected and gated community so it is something we dont worry about too often. Aside from the environment, the staff has been very welcoming. From before even moving in, Courtney has been really helpful with the application and the move-in process. Also, finally settled in, maintenance has done an amazing job. I must say, Bert was awesome, he put in the work to help make our apartment feel right at home.
Ive only been living here in Waena for about 2-3 months now and have really enjoyed it here. The staff is friendly and willing to help you and go out of their way to get the job done. The apartments are very nice and clean and the security is very helpful. Unfortunately, my moped got stolen from here but if it werent for the security I would not have known until it was time for work and I wouldnt have had a description of the guy either. Also, Bert the maintenance guy is extremely helpful and friendly. He came to do some maintenance and finished repairing all issues within 10-15 minutes. He did a great job with everything too so it was good quality work. I really appreciate everything the staff does for us here at Waena and hope they continue to do an incredible job at it!
I have lived a Waena Apartments going on 3 years now, and have enjoyed the central location, attentive security, friendly atmosphere, and prompt service. The reasonable rent and warm community feeling projected by the management as well as the staff is what keeps me here. The property is well kept by the maintenance team which shows you the pride they take by keeping the complex clean. They also address any problems or repairs the same day. I got to know an employee named Bert who has come to help me on several occasions, and am very impressed with his professionalism, respect, and positive attitude when coming into the house for repairs. Now, whenever I see Bert he immediately throws me a shaka and a friendly smile. He is just one example of what makes the warm community atmosphere as well as the other staff and residents. Furthermore, security always has a presence, and makes sure to close gate at night and keep a patrol going which makes the area that much safer. I wanted to take the time to write a review because of the hospitality and helpfulness that I have been shown by Bert and the rest of the staff. Overall I would recommend Waena Apartments to anybody as its great for families, students, military, working professionals, and retirees.
Nice place close to town so its in close proximity to everything really. Great service staff too, been getting loads of help from Bert, there service man. Any help you need he is always just a phone call away.
We recently had a refrigerator issue on Presidents Day, an off day for the office, so we had to call in the issue to the after-hours maintenance number. The agent I spoke with was very friendly and detailed when describing and sending out the order to the maintenance staff. About 10-15 minutes later Bert was at our door to access the issue. He was very friendly and had a genuine smile on his face when speaking to my husband and I, he was also thorough when explaining the cause of the issue. Bert had to take the refrigerator out of our apartment and replace it with a new one, his smile and friendliness never left.
Bert from the maintenance staff is amazing. I called in to get a few things around my apartment fixed and he came within the hour and fixed it fast. He was very nice and polite!
I had minor plumbing problems and Uncle Bert responded very quickly. It is now fixed. He was friendly and professional. He was also considerate enough to wait for me to come downstairs to let him in even though the door was not locked. I give Uncle Bert 5 stars! Thank you
I just moved in, the price is a little high but manageable. I pay $2,075/ month split between three people plus I have to pay water, trash, and electricity on top of that. It was honestly a last minute choice but if the rent stays the same we may sign another year. which it doesn’t seem like it will, judgeing on the other reviews.
Moved with my children here a week ago, so they can have a bit of an ordinary life surrounded by kids with their father away from isolated high-rises. Big mistake already. I’m working all day and don’t live here, so I kept my full time Nanny to watch over them, until their father arrives from the mainland soon and vacates his apartment. They play outside every day with the neighbors children, following the ground rules, with their nanny watching over them at all times. But one security guard ruins it all. Her name must be Peggy or Betty, she refuses to give out her name. As soon as she comes along the kids are terrified and hide. She yells at them, is making up her own rules, it went as far as touching the children and as of yesterday nearly running over my daughter with the golf cart. She refuses to give out her name to my nanny, tried to break into the apartment, until she saw my nanny watching her. Left a citation note at the door, saying the nanny was blocking her way with the golf cart, (while she was trying to protect my daughter) and that kids are not allowed to play outside. My nanny let all the children play a board game at our front porch yesterday, and this security guard lady tells them they all have to play in front of their own houses. Too many children at the porch. I am outraged! No one touches my children! Other parents have complained, but are too afraid to stand up against this woman. I’ve called my lawyer, HPD to get a restraining order against his woman, and will contact the news. My nanny already left a complaint at the office. I’ve talked to them today as well. Robin said there’s nothing they can do, since the security company is run by a private company. The manager “fanny” is notified as well, but we still haven’t received an answer. Waena Apartments hires some very uneducated low class people. Now I have to deal with this unnecessary drama of a mentally ill grumpy lady who doesn’t like seeing children playing, during my busy schedule. Legal actions will follow! And don’t answer with your automated message: “please leave us an email and we will try to help!” You have my info, you can call me or my lawyer. If this woman ever touches my children again, I’ll make sure she goes to jail!
Micronesians make it really difficult to enjoy this place.Def a decrease in property value probablyThey are messy, unruly kids running everywhereThey stay up late outside and disturb everybody after work hours.Ugh
This apartment I live in with my dad is great. They have a good laundry and workout facility and their maintenance services are great as well. Our maintenance provider Bert is always helpful and thoroughly explains the problem and his solution
The Waena Apartment is amazing, also the maintenance. I want to thank Bert for his hard work and determination for supporting us and for looking after us. Great Job Bert! thank you for the great service.
Just wanna be honest about Waena Apartments on how there treated there tenants especially the two managers Lisa and Fannie there very rude even with Fannie attitude. Waena apartments raise there rent prices every year and when you couldnt pay it in full Waena Apartments will kicked you out of your apartment with your belongings in it and change the locks. I know Waena give you 15 notice to get your things out and all but they dont have the right the last few things in the dumpster thats not a legal thing to do just have to put it in the curb. I know they gave us a month but its hard to find help even with a truck to get your things out of the apartment. we even explain to them but they hear no single word even when we complain even with the noise. The people in the leasing office says were wasting there time when there giving us attitude and hard time. To put this out there my family and I are homeless because the Waena Apartment trying to avoid going to court and rushing us out of the premises
Bert did a great job fixing the lights in my apartments. He was fast and everything worked like new when He was finished. I highly recommend Bert to help fix the things in your apartment.
There is this very helpful guy name Bert, who worked very hard keeping the area looking magnificent. I am really grateful for him since he helped me find something i lost.
The staff is great, no complaints here. The complex is a bit loud but I guess thats just city living when youre located between a fire station and a hospital. I usually work with Kuini, she was my leasing agent and is great. If shes ever out the other staff members are more than happy to help. Bert is the best maintenance man in town as well, always a pleasure to see him around. You cant beat the price and ease of working with these folks compared to some other places around town.
Unnecessary charges added to move out bill. Be careful with renting here they will do anything to retain your security deposit. They will try to charge you for painting a whole apartment without any proof of damages for normal wear and tear.
Ive been living in Waena Apartments for about 2 years now and Its been great. The staff has been on point when it came to repairs and troubles in the apartment. Bert, one of the staff, is always respectful and there the next day or within the week to fix any issues. The community is also great, no problems with the residents.
Laundry rooms suck washers hardly working or not spinning cloths completely or they just straight up take your money. Living out my year lease then leaving not worth money spent or lost. Who ever is running this place got there head in there a** counting the money they making off hard working people. #moretocome
Bert on the maintenance crew does such a great job. I told him he doesnt have to put the booties on over his shoes but he still insists and he is so kind and friendly while at our apartment. Also, Earnie is great. These two gentleman help us most of the time but I assume the whole maintenance grew is awesome.
I absolutely love living here! Aside from the reasonable rent and nice, remodeled apartments, there are other perks! My maintenance crew is AMAZING! Burt and Ernie (easy to remember right) are God sents! They are always around to fix any sort of problem we may have and respond RIGHT away! They are always so friendly and dont mind fixing the stupid little things most landlords would get irritated about. They are even really great with my service dog! I highly recommend these apartments, especially for families with small children! :)
If you like roaches infection, horrible management, and drugs this is your place. if you have kids and care about them stay away ( bad reviews keep coming )
A couple of months ago I called the front office for Waena, in need of some repairs in our apartment. Our garbage disposal was broken, ceiling fan wasnt working, remotes to lights not working, and one of the slip grips on the stairs was coming off. They sent Bert over to do the repairs and I couldnt be happier! He was so kind and fixed everything thoroughly. Bert is one of a kind and Waenas lucky to have him!
Maintenance is super friendly and helpful. Ive never had to wait more than a couple hours to get a service request addressed. Bert is always making sure we are as satisfied with our apartment as possible.
Awful uneducated management. Sheryl, the manager, is rude and unprofessional. Ms Queen is a uneducated local. Gated community but hate only closes after 9p. Neighbors car broken into. Other neighbors scooter vandalized and bikes stolen. Apartment has cigarette smoke coming in all the time. Hot water has been out 6 times in the past month. Water has been brown and cloudy. Washers dont clean anything. Resident have to pay for water used for landscaping and even for the washers despite paying to use washer. Plumbing backed up all the time. Insect issues with ants all the time. Office staff doesnt even live here. They say its pet unfriendly, but everyone has pets. Very loud at night and security is useless.
Thr Maintenance crew is awesome. Quick to send eviction notices, then they use the Scare tactics thinking locals dont know Hawaii Laws? You get utility bill a month in advance!!!. Security just drives around and waits to harass you. Except our nightime security Tee Dont Move Here
The maintenance here is great. Bert did a great job fixing the shower. He is very polite and fixed the problem very quickly. Thanks Bert for doing a great job!
Where do I start? Okay let’s begin with the bathtub and all the sinks not draining water. By the way your water bill and sewage bill will be the same as the whole building you’re in regardless if you use very little. Every night you get to hear annoying people shouting. Washing machines and dryers stay broken. If you use your card (Which you have to buy if you want to use washer and dryers) and the machine is broken guess what you just lost $2.00 and have to move to another machine and hope it works. Gates stay broken so you might have to go all the way around just to enter these apartments. Honestly this is a last resort place to stay. Honestly for the love of God do something about these loud birds and chickens in the morning. The sound is unbearable and you cant sleep in.
Moved here with my husband. Office staff was horrible. Manager was rude took her sweet time getting back to tenants. Sau kuen yit-Leung, was hateful and treats military families terribly. Zero respect. Kept our security deposit and lied to our faces about someone already renting out the unit during our move out. Husband received deployment orders and she demanded we pay but promised they would not be making double money on unit. Another employee in office slipped up and told us of the new tenants. We had to leave island so of course that new contract “fell” through. Don’t waste your time or money with these people especially if you are military. I’d give them a zero except the maintenance people were good after they created the online request for us. Office staff wouldn’t pass the word to them to come fix things. I can’t stand dishonest people…oh yeah let’s not forget the stench of homeless urine right outside the gates areas and broken washer and dryers!!
I love courtney !!! So warm yet professionalAnd fannie!I lived here four years ago and just move back inI love it hereThe apartments are a great designMaintenancePest controlEtc .It has changed over timeThe grass was much plusher in the landscaping 😜But i’m grateful to have a home in paradise.FYI this is an islandDon’t come from the mainland complaining about roaches.I actually have no bugsI keep a pretty clean home.
Lisa and Fannie are the worst managers. They have zero respect for tenants and they disregard the safety of tenants. They think they are above the law which is not right. Their neglect for tenant safety should get them fired and arrested. Its shame~!!!!! Its more shameful when you have the staffs family put up nice reviews. You can tell the real tenants give this hell...1 star reviews....
Bert just left after replacing my bathroom sink. It is nice having a working bathroom sink. He was very courteous, clean and efficient
The application process is simplistic. Kuini was incredible from her first greeting to the time we signed the contract. Even though we always showed up unannounced, she was so very willing to answer our questions and take time out for us, she even missed a lunch and delayed another. Shes a jewel!
If you want an actual good quality of life, dont live here. The apartments arent clean/well-made, as in the tub/toilet overflows with the above apartments dirty water, broken, cheap blinds, cheap flooring with asbestos under them (says so in the lease), and low quality parts/electrical.Also, the new management is HORRIBLE. All they care about is money... they dont actually care about you. Do yourself a favor and find some good roommates and get a room in a house somewhere. Especially dont give these people your money.
Gated community with great amenities.
I lived here when I first moved to Honolulu. The management is helpful and fair. The apartments are new-ish and clean. Laundry rooms are clean. Downside is the location: the side of the complex I was on bordered a river walk favored by meth addicts who screamed profanity at passersby on a near daily basis. This is not Waenas fault, however if you are consdering moving here, you should know your neighbors.
Everything about this place is great!Located in town, your right there in the heart of chinatown, so if youre a night person who likes to go out to the bars then this is the spot. There are great bars, restaurant and beaches very close by. The other wonderful things about this place is the great services from all the people who work here and the professional courtesy they give to everyone. Some of the people who are very helpful that I have encountered are Mara Hanson, Leasing Associate, she has been very helpful in providing quality services to the people who are looking for new places and assisting those who are already living here, GREAT SERVICE!!! Also the repair man his name is Bert, great service and quality work, we request for maintenance due to bulb going out or issues with the sink disposal and he gets on it the next day. The turn around time for this work is very great its always completed the next day and hes very courtious if you ever get a chance to talk to him since hes so busy all the time. This community is great for all type of people their are college students, military, and locals who live in this area. I have been living here for over a year, and would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an affordable, spacious, and quality apartment close to town.
Bert who works on residents maintenance in Waena Apartments is really good! He is efficiency, polite, and friendly! Highly recommend!
Terrible, loud kids with no supervision, horrible laundry services. After 10 pm the place goes to crap. The only good thing is Vince and the maintenance. Do not move here!
We recent had our stove malfunction and couldnt use it for a while. We called it in and thanks to Mr. Belecha, he was able to turn the process around in a speedy manner. I was out of the house in the day time and by the time I was home, the stove is ready for use. I was able to make dinner that night and everything is working fine at the moment. Mr. Belecha provided great customer service and is pretty approachable. Answered my questions and fixed the problem on the same day. Id request for him for the next issue that my apartment has.
Bert from the maintenance staff at Waena is a wonderful employee! He is extremely helpful and kind :)
Just wanted to say that I have been living here for over a year and every time I have a problem Bert is always there to help... he is a great worker and a nice guy...Thanks Bert for everything
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE STAY AWAY!!This place is horrible. Signed a lease last year in September my rent was 1795 for a 2 bedroom without electricity or water. They just sent me another paper to sign a lease again but the rent went up to 1895 and if I didnt want to sign a lease then it went up to 1995 a month until I move.We have been looking for a new place to live recently since our lease is up and what do you know they have Apartments online waena apartments for 1795 same space. They are con artists plain and simple . Since I moved in Ive had my moped stolen (they have cameras up that dont work) had three backed up drains(maintenance workers are awesome) roaches that you cant get rid of and you pay for literally the whole apartment to take a shower. They rent out to families that have 10 people living in a two-bedroom apartment . I just got a new neighbor I literally counted 10 people living in it I dont even know how thats legal that they can charge us for somebody elses water and if it goes by each person why do I have to pay for a family of 10 when theyre only supposed to have 4 people in that apartment sounds illegal to me. STAY AWAY !!
My sink was plugged and Bert came and assist with the pluming! he was fast and infomative about what the problem was! Bert also came and assisted with previous problems we had! when we first moved in our bathroom was plugged! Bert came to assisted and welcomed himself by saying his name, which was every welcoming! so everytime we see Bert we always say Hi to him on a first name base! You ROCK Bert!! :)
Expencive but very clean apartments, maintenance and security make it all good.but they always have problems with laundry mashines and the office doesnt want to deal with it (as they say its the Maytag problems). We spend about $50 a month to wash our clothes plus electricity and rent. Dont think I want to stay here any longer.
Bert did a great job of fixing my oven, he was courteous, and provided speedy service with a smile.
Moving into a place with a great location, but dont want to sacrifice quality? Waena apartments are a family friendly complex with everything you need: laundry, playground for kids, recreation room, business center, and even a gym to live the healthy lifestyle. I am a former veteran and Waenas staff was very helpful to get me moved in. They are very military friendly and understand the hardships that veterans face in their everyday life. Courtney and Kuini, part of the Waena staff, was very understanding of the GI bill benefits and worked vigorously to help and accommodate my needs. The staff is very professional and friendly which makes everyday life easy. I am currently a student at Hawaii Pacific University, walking distance from the apartment complex. Hundreds of dollars are saved monthly, because you dont need to worry about the pricey parking tolls or garages. I live in a two bedroom apartment with another student, and the living space is immaculate. Beautiful hardwood floors and granite countertops make for an easy cleanup. There is ample room to host guests downstairs and have your own upstairs where your bedrooms are located. I have many school friends that live in other apartments in the area, and at the end of the day, we always end up at our apartment because it’s simply better than the others. You cant beat the convenience of the location and Waena is very affordable in comparison to other similar complexes. Waena takes priority in cleanliness and safety, there is always staff cleaning and maintaining the courtyards and a 24 hour security program that keeps residents and their families safe. The buildings are secure and I have never had any problems with crime or mischief. Each resident has their own parking stall and there is ample parking around the complex for guests. Waena is the perfect place to call home, whether you’re a family of four, or just a single bachelor going to school.
If I could rate with no stars, I would do so in a heartbeat. My family and I have been living here since OCT2013 and the quality of life has gradually declined into a pile of dung. I would not recommend anyone I like to live here. I would not renew the lease again. The floor plans and pricing are so-so, but not worth the hassle of actually living here. There are screaming children and/or parties everyday. I do believe I manage to sleep due to pure exhaustion. The smell of marijuana is unbearable, and I would rather sit in flatulent air than risk opening a window in 90° weather. The courtesy patrol is equivalent to a mall cop, but without the bike. I have called them, with no answer, and people around here are not intimidated by someone who literally does nothing--they are useless. The icing on the cake would be the management. Ever since the new management, prices on everything has gone up while quality remained the same or worsened. The leasing agents are akin to a bottle of Cola; sweet and good, but you find out the acidity and artificial quality does more harm than you initially thought. They treat you with as much respect as an empty box, after the lease has been signed. All they are really after is your rent payment and will ignore any valid complaints made, going as far as sending every unit a paper memo basically saying, We have heard your complaints and we will regurgitate the same nonsense that solves nothing--thank you for your money. They recently contracted with Ace Towing and a bunch of tenants had their cars towed, including ours, out of their own registered parking. Managements response: send out a paper memo. The only good thing about this place is the quality of the maintenance workers. Those folk are super friendly and actually do their job. Whatever they are getting paid from Wahneeda (Waena) is not enough, because those folk are the reason some people stay on living here. You have been informed--they are not family or military friendly.
I thought this was going to be a big deal and Bert put my worries to test wit a qiuck, in and out fix. He was very friendly and helpful as always.-Damarcus
Worst apartments Ive ever lived in. A thousand screaming kids running around all day every day never letting you get a second of peace. Dirty people leaving their garbage eveywhere destroying the place every day. Refused to prorate my rent when I moved out ten days before the end if the month. Left the place cleaner than when I moved in was still charged for a full clean plus painting that wasnt at all needed. Some how an extra hundred and forty dollars for utilities showed up on my move out invoice when it was supposed to be thirty seven dollars. Towed my own car my own registered parking spot once, refused to have my car brought back or pay the tow fee. Smallest parking spots possible, couldnt fit my full size car in. Had to downgrade because of that. Drug deals going on all over the place and security refuses to do anything about because theyre all brudas. Do yourself the favor and DO NOT move there.
DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT MOVING HERE!! THESE PEOPLE WILL SCAM YOU FOR AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE! Also 4 cars infront of my apartment were stolen the cameras dont work here rhat y they hired securirty officers who are very lazy and live here. you eill probably spot them once a day. the manger has a strong asian accent that can barley be understood they tried to charge me for a bed bug infeststion but coukdnt prove it was me charged me $90 for finding a rag or something in my drain (it had to have been there b4 i moved in) if u even have a tiny furniture mark on any walls you pay for repainting if u dont get the floors professionslly cleaned prior to moving out you are charged $500 a room blinds are $3+ each if they fall down or break & they will! thats only the begining theres roaches biggest ones ive seen no matter how clean you are thy live underneath the floor that has never been cleaned. if you want to be repsonsible for the entire buildings WATER usage then live here bcuz thats ehat you pay whether youre here for the month or not youre going to pay over $140 on top of your rent when rhe dumpsters get dirty your garbage cost goes up as well. rhe maintanece are retards the apsrtments are a dump once you see how cheaply renovated it is. THIS PLACE IS AWFUL. BE SMART DONT MOVE IN THEY WILL TAKE ALL YOUR MONEY!
I love living here in waena. Everyone is really friendly and neighbor like. Also the staff here is incredible. I had this one repair man who came to fix my house three times whenever any small thing broke. His name was Bert. He would always greet you with a smile and alsways respect my home by wearing his shoe covers. On top of that, he would always walk me through what it is he is fixing so as to better be prepared in the future. Very friendly people like that is what makes waena more than just a lease or a temporary residence. People like Bert make this community a home.
My childen and I love living here at Waena Apts! We have great neighbors, the staff and maintenance people are always friendly and professional! Ms. Gretchen Cech in the office and her staff have been wonderful from the start!!
If you enjoy being around drug dealers, prostitutes and transvestites, this place is for you! Will update with photos soon.
Quick responseFixed problemMost importantly friendly faces always makes a difference in FANTASTICcustomer service.Mahalo Bert for a 5 star maintenance experience!
This place has been around for many years, or so I have heard. When I moved in a little more than a year ago, they had just renovated the entire community and remodeled every apartments here. I gotta say its a nice place to live at: great location(not far from center of Honolulu, and you can get on highway in less than 2 mins), wood floor(I care a lot of this because I do not like carpet at all), friendly staff(every time I have problem with anything in the apartment, they will come fix it right away. In particularly, handyman Bert is the awesomest guy theyve got here. He knows exactly how to fix anything thats broken, and he does it fast!). The rent is high compare to mainland but its reasonable for hawaii, its expensive to live in hawaii. I would recommand this place to anyone who doesnt have pets, and enjoys the convenience of the location. The only improvement I personally hope that will happen is: have washer and dryers in the apartments. It doesnt have to be in every apartments, but it should be an option for tenants to choose an apartment with or without washer & dryers. I just dont like to wait a week to have enough cloth to do laundry, rather prefer to wash it in my apartment whenever I want(since Im paying for the electric and water bills myself anyways)
My family and I had an amazing experience living here for the past year. Just coming here to see what the apartment has to offer, I already knew this was the place for us. Although it was expensive, we made it worth it. The office workers were friendly, MARA who helped us from the beginning was just amazing. She took her time explaining everything we needed to know and even answered all the questions we had. She was just beyond helpful, very appraochable and always had a great smile on her face everytime we see each other. The landscapers do such an amazing job, working hard in the hot sun everyday-- just to make this place clean and presentable to the renters and public. I dont know the mans name but hes a landscaper during the day and security at night here at the apartments but he was also very friendly and approachable. He was always watching out for my son & I (being that my husband was away for most of the time). As for the painters, I havent really approached them too much but they did a great job painting our lanai. As for the maintanence workers, they too were hard working just not so appraochable (just a few). I want to give a big great thank you to BERT-- the best since the day we stepped foot here at the apartments. Hes such a hardworking, friendly, approachable, very easy to talk to kind of man. Everytime we had problems in our home, he always took his time to fix it and explained to us what the problem was. I remember a time when I had issues with our blinds and how it wasnt turning, he showed me exactly what the problem was and how to fix it the next time it ever occurs. There were also some that fell off and broke, he replaced them and gave me a few extras in case more breaks and falls off. He gave such simple directions that were easy to follow to fix the problem. There was another incident where the water in our bath tub wasnt going down, he also fixed that problem. Also, when we had problems with our kitchen sink where it was clogged as well, then the pipe broke-- he repaired all of that in a timely manner. BERT is always on the go, he does such excellent work and we acknowledge him for all his hard work. I also want to thank the manager above him (sorry I dont know his name), but he was very helpful, friendly and approachable as well. I never got to know him til the very end but he came in to do the pre-inspection and told me exactly what needed to be done.Thank you to all the Waena Apartment staff for making our stay here such a memorable and great one! Keep up the good work :)
We needed assistance on a few things and maintenance crew Bert and James were very helpful and speedy! Fixed everything we needed!
