Expensive but overall good. Will see how it holds up over time. Had several things done. Some communication issues and it seemed I reached out more than they did. COVID-19 supply issues naturally slowed things up. They just needed to communicate delays. Jerrod and his partner Justin were great. Went above and beyond when installing windows, new front door, screen door and facia on side of garage. Friendly and knowledgeable. To me what makes a good company is when issues happen and they make it right. Pleased with results in end. Love my new cement porch and railing. Will use them again in future. From my first phone call all the way to the completion walkthrough, my experience with Montell was easy, professional, and exceeded my expectations. We had a goal of taking down our old deck and replacing it with a composite deck with stairs splitting off towards the bottom, one way going to an area for our dogs, and one way through a self closing gate to an area of our back yard where a pool is about to go in. We had a date set for when construction was starting on our pool before we even contacted Montell and I wasn’t sure they’d be able to complete the deck in time for the pool. Chad, one of the owners, assured us that they could get this done for us and he got the ball rolling for us. We told him our idea and he came up with a rough sketch and helped us decide on materials that were in our budget. When it was time for construction to begin at our house, Kel and Kyle showed up early in the morning and quickly got to work taking down the old deck. They worked SO well together and you could tell that they had great communication between the two of them. That soon made sense when we found out that they are twins! They worked so hard and worked meticulously paying close attention to detail. Every night when they left, they cleaned up their area and made sure to touch base with us to let us know the progress and what could be expected the following day. They ended up finishing the project sooner than we expected and we could not be more pleased with their work. We are very much looking forward to enjoying this deck and our new back yard for years and years to come, all thanks to Kel and Kyle, and the whole Montell Construction crew. We always try to support small locally owned family businesses which is what made us reach out to them in the first place and they did not disappoint! They set the bar high for all future projects we need done and we look forward to working with them again!

Jerrod Hall and his crew member were the epitome of thoroughness, speed, efficiency and helpfulness. They installed 8 new windows in half the time I would have expected and with all the polish I could have hoped for. They also took the time to show my wife maintenance and extra features we didnt know about. On top of everything else, they completely removed any sign of the old windows and even showed us how easy it was to remove the stickers on the new ones. We are delighted.

We had Montell add a sunroom to our house. It was an outstanding experience and we really enjoy the sunroom all year round. They were always prompt and did what they said they would do. We highly recommend Montell.

Don and James did excellent work on our deck. Don was a fantastic mentor to James. Both worked well together and explained to us even the details of how they worked on our deck. They gave us good instructions for how to maintain the deck for all seasons. I had to have follow up after getting a roof replaced by Montel Construction several years ago. I was totally satisfied with their work. I had a small leak just after 10 years and Montell came out to find the problem and fixed it and followed up with me several times to be sure the leak was a totally handled problem. Donald Perry is the service person that came several times to be sure everything was fixed and wanted to be sure I was satisfied. .Montel construction is the most professional company I have ever worked with and am proud to be a customer of theirs

Bud and Savannah were the team in charge of our 3 season porch remodel. We had a plain deck that was only 1/2 being used. We asked Montell to turn it into a a space we could use most of the year and so far, we love it. They use high quality materials, and they are experienced professionals. This was not a quick project. We commissioned it in May, and it was completed in November. Covid delays seemed to be an issue along with ordering errors, but we werent in a hurry which helped.It was really nice to work with friendly people who know what they are doing. Yes, they are expensive, but our home is our largest investment and we want the remodel work done right. Montell did it right and we appreciate it.

While doing research on window replacement I found Montell Construction and considered having them out for an estimate because they use Soft-lite, which is a quality replacement window. But after reading the reviews, Ive firmly eliminated them from my list. Its clear from a number of reviews that their business philosophy involves high pressure sales, and I REFUSE to work with anyone who uses these tactics. Requiring the spouse or significant other to be there for the estimate so they can pressure them into signing on the spot is very poor form, and unprofessional. Ive dealt with these kinds of tactics in the past, with other companies, and it is very unpleasant and uncomfortable. I recognize these businesses as soon as they tell me my spouse must be there, and quickly tell them Im not interested. Did that just recently. I can see from the other reviews that George will respond with some kind of justification for this behavior. But trying to put these tactics in a favorable light with some kind of rationalization about the value of your time as a business, or the challenge for a couple choosing options, is just putting lipstick on a pig. (i.e. - Save your time.)In fairness so as to not skew their overall reviews too much since I proactively eliminated them as a potential, Ive elected to record 3 stars for this review. But any company that uses high pressure tactics like those other reviewers clearly describe here is only 1 star in my opinion.UPDATE: Owner response is so predictable, and just proves my point. Accusing me of being a competing sales rep? Seriously? Thats just an attempt to discredit my point of view, which proves my point but also loses you another star. Im actually a software engineer (and ex-potential client) trying to navigate the very overwhelming world of window shopping. Yes, it seems if one can get past the high pressure sales tactics, that this company does some quality work. But potential clients should be as important as actual clients. George, your sales philosophy and how you represent yourself to potential clients needs an overhaul. And Ive spent HOURS researching to find a good window and a good installer in the zoo of choices out here, so spending an extra 10 minutes to communicate to you that your sales philosophy has lost you a potential client, but more so to help other future potential clients make an informed decision, is well spent. Every one of the 5 other companies I had out for window estimates were great to work with - low pressure sales. Enduring high pressure sales is not necessary with those kind of options, which is why I refuse to do it.

We wanted to replace our 30-year old aluminum siding. After getting quotes from several sources, we chose Montell and are so glad we did. From Dustin, the Design Consultant, to Keith, Charlie and Sean who installed the siding we purchased, Montell was well represented with professionals who knew their trade. Their attention to detail was outstanding. The end result was much better than we anticipated and even our neighbors agree. We have the best looking home in our neighborhood and Montell made that happen. We highly recommend them for your home improvements.In the process of getting measured for materials, etc., it was determined we needed to replace our patio door due to the rotted wood frame. Dustin, the Design Consultant, came out and measured the door and showed us samples and styles to choose from. The team of Dan, Ben, and Kyle that installed the new door was on time and efficient. They installed the door with skill and then cleaned up the minimal debris from their work. The door style is so much better than what we had and these guys were great to work with. Their attention to detail was outstanding. I did some looking online and found out that the door brand they installed is rated as one of the best. It makes sense a firm like Montell would use the best. We highly recommend Montell for your siding and door improvements.

Just got our deck put in and we could not be happier!. From beginning to end, the entire process with Montell was transparent and professional. Each staff member provided updates for each step to keep us in the loop of the progress and any setbacks. Chris’s team came on time and worked diligently to complete the project and even finished ahead of schedule. We can’t wait for warmer weather to start using it!

Montell Construction replaced our deck boards. Most of the work was satisfactory, but a few areas were unacceptable. They came out to remedy the areas that needed to be reworked. Most of the reworked areas were finished to our satisfaction (though I dont know why the work wasnt done correctly the first time). One area is still poor quality. I have called and asked that the problem be fixed but Montell is not responding. I would not recommend this company for deck replacement. Premium price for inferior work.

You tried to put band aides on the problems by having someone come glue down the peeling material but clearly that was never going to hold. Obviously the cost today would be higher. We are now paying someone else to fix your mistakes so the $16k we paid you was for absolutely nothing. The wood that is now rotted is due to YOUR error. That was fresh new wood that your company installed. It became rotted due to the way you installed the railing. The hot tub underneath it was empty and not even in use so there was no moisture coming from there. My review is honest and true.--** update below **The service provided by Montell was appalling. Upon signing our initial contract, we were given an estimated start date of 6-8 weeks, but probably sooner as our situation was considered urgent. (Our roof was leaking into the room below.) No work began until the 12th week and the communication surrounding this was lacking. After the initial sales meeting, we later found out that we were not adequately presented with all of the product options available to us. It took weeks to even get a larger sample size of the product that was promised at our initial sales meeting. When workers finally showed up, they had different materials than outlined in our contract. Trying to discuss any issues with this company is beyond frustrating. We received rude responses, no apologies and the work that was done is unsatisfactory. The Duradek edge looked like it was cut by a child. Since it was already glued down, it could not be fixed so they painted to minimize the unsightliness of it. Sloppy if you ask me. A worker also stepped through the roof, causing 2 boards in our cedar ceiling below to break. They nailed it back up and offered us a few hundred dollars to account for it. At our final walkthrough, they fought with us over whether or not it was discussed to be $200 or $300 and also tried to argue that it could have been like that before they did the work. After all of the problems we had with them, I was astounded that they would try to haggle us for $100. In the end, they just wanted to take their check and never see us again. Good riddance Montell.***Well, its been 6 years now and our deck needs to be completely replaced. The wood underneath the Duradek that Montel installed has completely rotted. We tried reaching back out to Montell and to Duradek directly, but were told that they made no errors... really?!They clearly installed this Duradek incorrectly. They drilled holes right through the Duradek to attach our railings. These holes caused water to enter constantly and has rotted the wood beneath it to a point where it has become unsafe. Here are pictures of the rot caused by their faulty installation.We paid $16,000 for this deck 5 years ago and are now completely starting from scratch and having to pay someone else to do it correctly.The only thing they ever offered us was $1k with the direction that I remove my original review. They are extremely unprofessional and no matter what we have tried, our communications get sent to George and he has decided that we are just annoying customers not worth his time. I would stay away from this company unless you want to flush your money down the toilet.

We used Montel Construction this summer to add an addition on our existing deck and pour a new concrete patio. Kyle and Adam built the deck extension and did a great job. They paid attention to the small details (even when cleaning up) and consistently checked in to make sure we were happy with the job throughout the build. Concrete patio went in quickly and without issues. Would recommend and use again.

We recently ordered windows and sliding doors through Montell for our whole house. We are doing a new construction, and they helped us find great windows for a great cost. (Soft-Lite Windows, triple pane, and high efficiency). We even had some more rounded windows and different shapes and they were able to meet all of those needs. They can make a great window for any project! They had different options for all budget sizes. Montell installs quality product, and they really know their stuff! Bud and Savannah were an incredible team to meet and watch! On time, worked incredibly hard, great communication and super clean. We were told our project would be about two weeks and they got it done in 4 days! Little details like a boot cleaner to keep boards clean, blocking the trailer to prevent driveway damage, hand carrying the old deck to prevent yard damage, sanding edges, fixing some previous damage that was uncovered during tear down...the list goes on. Montell replaced our deck in the fall with a beautiful new Trex deck. The team that worked on our project was headed up by Jon Hubble. He was great to work with and a good communicator. Working with Jon were Derek Martz and Caleb Sparks. They arrived at our house at first light each day. They began by tearing off our existing deck. They were very organized & cleaned up the worksite at the end of each day. Matt came to our home and sat with us over an hour drawing up plans for our deck. Not only that but the siding of the house and the gutter work. The sales, installation and service professionals for Montell Construction are phenomenal! Our deck/pergola project and window project were installed correctly, on time and with no issues several years ago. When I had questions regarding our window and pergola corbels, not only did George respond quickly (on a Saturday for the window question and at the West Michigan Home and Garden Show booth for the corbel question), but the service people for the windows and corbels kept me informed on every step of the process. Don Perry contacted me immediately to verify my issue with our corbels (after 5 years of being installed) and was at my home within a few days to install them! They look great and I couldnt be more pleased with the customer service the entire organization has given us! I would recommend them for ANY job you need....The customer service and quality they provide are second to NONE!

Little did I know when I asked for a quote from Montell that I was going to be hiring the Cadillac of home improvement companies. Each phase of the job was handled by a different crew each of whom introduced themselves to me (the homeowner) and were polite and friendly. At the end of every work day my yard was policed, picked-up and in a few cases blow-dried!The concierge of the whole project was Brett Kegerreis, a Senior Design Consultant, but he was much more than that. He was an Ambassador. He flawlessly handled any concerns I had quickly before they became issues,The supervising associate Scott Runge made frequent and timely visits to the site. At all times I felt like I could approach any of the associates/craftsmen and would be treated with respect and sincerity. The siding installers father/son were friendly, happy (!) and help helped me put a big rock in a trailer without beings asked. It may have only taken a few seconds of their time but it made a lasting impression in my mind. I made them a batch of cookies.There were no pressure tactics but a couple of issues arose that needed attention which I gladly accepted and I am now glad I had the extra work added.I hope the craftsmen who worked on this project have a chance to drive by after the landscaping is complete and see what a fine job of which they were a part.

Bud and Adam tore down an existing sun room and built a new, upgraded one. They were easy to work with and always answered questions as we went along. They were neat, efficient, and courteous. We love the new room.

We bought a home with a steel roof installed by Montell Construction a couple years prior to our purchase. When we noticed a leak, Service Manager Don Perry came to check it out in mid January, even attempting to examine with ice on the roof. Weather forced delays and he recently returned and evaluated to determine that the chimney mortar and cap deterioration was the likely cause. But he caulked what he could and also caulked a couple leaks in our barn for no charge. Throughout the multiple communications and interactions his cheerful demeanor and positive spirit was a welcome salve for a difficult situation. We appreciated the extra effort and commitment to service what they sell. Don was a pleasure to work with from start to finish.

I had someone come to my house just over a month ago to give me a quote on vinyl siding for a 1200 square foot home. The sales man became very pushy when I said I wanted to get a couple otheme quotes and was making meuncomfortable. He pushed to get me to sign on right then and there for a good 15 minutes. Im glad I got other quotes because everyone else was half the price and the company I chose did a beautiful job.

I worked with Brett Kegerreis in designing a new composite deck and sunroom for my home. From start to finish, the experience could not have been better. Matt C. designed my deck addition allowing access to my back yard. The design included a lower level adding a beautiful dimension to the view of the back of my home--it looks great! He also helped me select colors that compliment my siding. The composite material used is easy to clean and will last forever.

They started the project early, which is always nice. The builder was great, and made a ramp to accommodate my pets while the project was underway. That is above the expected! Cleanup left a little to be desired for the high price of the project. Overall, I was happy with the results.

He explained every aspect of the project, was curious in answering all of our questions, was NOT pushy or high pressure, and we felt genuinely concerned about our situation. We had Montell over to put in new windows, sliders and a deck. Matt (sales) had some good ideas for our project and was very professional. The city of Grand Rapids really let us down with some disappointing zoning rules but Montell kept us informed every step of the way. Due to zoning rules we were not able to get the sunroom we really desired. However Matt Caudill with Montell helped us design a beautiful deck and we could not be any happier with the final product. Montell is a great company that I’ve had the pleasure of hiring on two separate occasions.   Not all my projects went perfect, but when things went south Montell took responsibility and made things right.  At the end of the day no one is perfect and mistakes happen, the true measure is how you address and correct the problem.  Montell Construction exhibited great integrity and commitment to me and made sure I was completely satisfied with both of my projects.  If interested, read the below details regarding my project experiences.I’ve utilized Montell Construction for 2 projects.  The 1st project was a deck replacement (07/19) and the 2nd project was replacement windows for our basement (07/20).  The deck project was incredible. We met Chad to get pricing and composite samples.  Chad was helpful, he answered our questions and expressed confidence in Montell’s ability to build our deck.  Even though Montell was more expensive than other quotes, I felt Montell was a better match for me.  Montell started the project sooner than planned and assigned a great crew(Bud & Savanah) to build the new deck.  Bud started early everyday and worked full days.  Each night before going home Bud cleaned up the work area and provide updates.  Bud worked on a Saturday to ensure the project completed I’m time.  While the deck project was underway I had a landscaping project going too, Bud communicated with the landscaping team and coordinated tasks to ensure both teams could complete their tasks as efficiently as possible.  The deck turned out beautifully, I was extremely happy we decided to have Montel complete our deck. The 2nd project, window replacements, didn’t go as well as the 1st project.  We met with Chad to review window options and to receive a quote.  Montell was more expensive than other quotes I received.  Since the deck project went so well, I wasn’t too put off.  Due to crazy schedules, Chad met on me on a Sunday at the Montell office to show window samples.  I was very impressed by the window, especially how the locks functioned.  Chad and I discussed my concerns about pricing and we were able to come to an agreement.  The windows arrived ahead of scheduled and Montell dispatched crew #1 to do the install.  I was disappointed with the quality of the work.   I contacted the office and project manager and expressed my concerns, the project manager arrived onsite within a few minutes.  The project manager, Mike,  was also disappointed on the quality of the work performed by crew #1.  After making a few phone calls, Mike made assurances that Montell would make get on top of the situation and make this right. The very next day, crew #2 along with Mike appeared bright and earlier, reviewed the situation. and came up with a corrective action plan. Mike explained the plan with clarity and again reassured me they would get the project back on track. The work performed by crew #2 was impeccable, by the end of the day, crew # 2 had removed, repaired the window frame, and reinstalled our windows.  We reviewed the project with Mike and agreed minor additional work need to be performed and a few replacement parts orders due to being scratched during the Initial install by crew #1. Once the replacement parts arrived Don, the service manager, came onsite and completed all the repairs.  Don was ready to “rock and roll” and was OUTSTANDING, he was extremely focused on customer service and making sure I was 100% satisfied with the final project. George McNew, owner of the company was also onsite several times to ensure the project got back on track.  After all work was done, I had a meeting with George and was able to express my gratitude for Montell’s proactive and customer service approach to turning a bad experience into positive experience. During the final meeting George took the time to explain why happened with the project and the corrective action he took to prevent a repeat of the problem. Thank you Montell for staying true to your values and treating me integrity and respect.

This company is solid. From the sales crew to the guys that worked on my roof, all pros. I had to have my entire roof redone. The crew was fast and cleaned my property well. The project manager was really cool to work with and very knowledgeable. If I ever need a home improvement company again, I will call Montell.

We hired Montell to construct a composite deck in our backyard. From the in home estimate with the very friendly sales guy to the actual construction, Montell made everything a breeze. No hassle. I am thrilled with the new windows they just installed for us. Everyone we worked with from beginning to end was professional and friendly. The pricing was very fair and they were here on time and finished when they said they would be. They cleaned up as well as they could and are even coming back in the spring (after the snow melts) to clean it one more time and make sure nothing was missed. I was lucky enough to get Adam and Kelly working on my new deck. Montell said 2 weeks. Adam and Kelly were her bright an early every morning and knocked it out in just over a week. and were able to bring my design idea on a mutli-level deck to life. George and his company Recently completed our roof. George was great to work with from the taking of the sale to the completion of the roof. His crew worked tirelessly and shared photos of all the issues found with our old roof. The job site was cleaned thoroughly and you could not tell they were there other than an amazing looking new roof. The team leader was professional and incredibly polite. Montell Construction did a huge multi-story window replacement and water damage repair several years ago. Recently the water leak has reappeared and again caused extensive damage. Montell stood behind their work 100% and had a crew on-site to completely remove and repair the damage. Additionally, Don and Craig went above and beyond with the repair in such a way that we will never have an issue again. They were on-site on -time, worked diligently, were professional, easy to converse with, and had easy to understand explanations. If you want a company that stands behind their customers then Montell is the place for you. Originally we were having a simple 3 season patio constructed by Montell. Numerous hiccups lead to many delays and set backs (I wont go into details). Thankfully Montells owner worked with us directly and listened to our every concern. Not only did they listen to our concerns but they made sure they fixed every issue to meet our wishes and make us happy. What could have been a disaster turned out to be a wonderful experience due to this company. Had another company done construction on our house with construction problems along with way, I am not confident the same care and compassion would be placed to make sure we are 100% satisfied. At the end of the construction experience with our home we felt like Montell was a part of our family, and I cant say that about many companies. The construction itself looks great, we love our patio and do not have any complaints. Thank you Montell!

Their sales guy was very pushy. He wanted us to list out all of our home projects and then he said he was going to help us prioritize them. What? I wasn’t sure what color and type of siding I wanted and told him I thought that was something he could help us with. I didn’t like the color he picked out and wanted to discuss other options. When we couldn’t give him a dollar range that we were working with and a timeframe or color he said well maybe I’m wasting your time and I should leave. Ok. Good bye. My husband has been in sales for many many years and doesn’t feel that you tell a sales person how much money you have to spend. I recommend you stay far far away from them. Our neighbors got an estimate from them and a couple other companies and they said this company was twice what everybody else was.

Montell did a total tear down and built a new multi-level deck for us. They did a top notch job! George was great to work with, and stopped by several times to see the progress. Our project took a few weeks to complete, and I appreciated that at the end of every day, the guys cleared the area of debris and left the site tidied up. There were some challenges along the way (a 40 year old house), but Randy and his team came up with a solution every time, and the end project is beautiful. We will be using Montell for our future home projects.

Your drivers need to learn some common courtesy. Will definitely share negative experience. A forty year old shouldnt drive like hes never operated a motorized vehicle.

In all of the years Ive dealt with construction/contractor crews, I was appalled by this companys sales approach. When I called to schedule the appointment, I was asked if I was single or married. While slightly confused, I let her know that I was married and she asked that we both be at the appointment.It didnt take long to figure out why.When the sales guy came to our house, he got very antsy when my husband said he needed to take a call. After my husband assured him that I could handle it (I was actually the one who built our house....) he still was concerned about him not being present.Talk about sticker shock. The price was triple what I had received from other companies. He then was very pushy about signing that day - even reprimanding me for not waiting to call them as a last estimate and telling me that it will look bad on him to go back to his boss without a sale. Not to mention, by the end of our conversation he had come down $3,000 which immediately felt like I was being ripped off from the start.I explained to him that they needed to be more clear about expectations when setting up the appointment as I was simply asking for an estimate.He came with no formal paperwork, so I asked him to send me an email. He returned to our house and asked for my husband....who was equally annoyed as he had told him to deal with me.Im happy that we moved forward with other estimates and will be using Blackberry Window & Door. Excellent sales man, insult free, hassle free....and the price was 1/4 of Montell.

We have used Montell several times and they have been excellent every time. George McNew is a pleasure to work with. He is always prompt, courteous, and honest with pricing, which has been in line with other contractors and what our neighbors have paid for similar work. They have done three jobs for us. The first was a 20,000 new roof, with tear-off and complete rebuild. They completed this in the Winter during breaks in a blizzard! The second was a 9000.00 new siding job. Excellent work, and they left our garage cleaner than before they started. The most recent work was a 1000.00 gutter replacement, which they finished in one day. I will always look to Montell first for any future construction work. Strongly recommended!

They as a business refused to accommodate the customer on the very initial stage of a project. They refused to even stop by and give me an estimate on a roofing project unless my girlfriend was home, despite her equal frustration at the situation and willingness to express it to the company. (The response from the company is inaccurate, I told the scheduler that my girlfriend intended to have no input on the situation and was leaving the decisions on this project to me. She was willing to verbally commit to that on the phone at that very moment. They still refused to see us.)

Brett, our designer, was able to see different ways to approach some tricky design issues. John was able to problem solve when unforeseen problems arose (hard as cement clay). Everyone was polite and respectful to the entire family and even answered those little kid questions. The work-site was kept organized through out the day and was cleaned up at night. I might have saved a little money going with another company but I would never have gotten the service I did through Montell. I will defiantly refer all my family and friends to Montell.
