Always get a great haircut. All stylist are very gifted with great talent when it comes to doing hair. TRY this place if you havent before. Youll feel right at home and you will be back!
This was HANDS DOWN the best haircut and beard trim i have EVER had. KAYCIE was wonderful. She gave me the full service even though i was walking in between appointments. Im not a local redident, but if i could fly back to Grand Rapids for haircuts, shed be my barber!
Vince Licari has is THE most skilled barber when it comes to blending and necklines. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.Bring a picture of the hairstyle you want and his skills will do the rest. He has been cutting hair for over 50 years and his level of mastery is amazing. Vince has cut my hair for 3 years and barbers all of my brothers hair as well.
Have been going to Head of the Pride for over two years. After moving from West side to the East side I still go here for a haircut. Great atmosphere and great stylists. Always very accommodating for my schedule. I highly recommend to all (Men/Women).
They did wedding hair for my daughter-in-laws wedding. Very meticulous and enthusiastic about making sure we looked gorgeous!
First salon experience and I didnt realize shampooing could feel so good haha. My stylist was great, her personality was very fun and upbeat and geniuninely listened as we talked. They have a huge range of products available on the shelves too if your into that i know the ones they used on my hair made it look fantastic even if id never heard of them before.
The place was awesome the service was awesome I felt right at home and my stylist was awesome
Great place, great staff, and a hell of a good cut.
I have been getting my hair cut by Kaycie at Head of the Pride for the last 18 months or so. She has done a wonderful job with both the haircuts and beard trimming. The experiences have always been fun. The establishment is clean, lively, has a great atmosphere, and all of the stylists have been very personable and warm.I highly recommend this location for haircuts and beard trimmings, or especially if you are curious in trying a new salon.
Kasey was really great, ive always been nervous with getting a haircut due to my curly hair. She did an amazing job and explained why she was using techniques for my hair type.Highly recommend kasey
Don’t go here for beard barbering. Trust me - from and experienced beard grower.Price:Haircut - $45Beard trim - $20For Grand Rapids these are premier service prices. I didn’t not receive premier service on beard. Poor beard service. Haircut was good.See pictures: This is how my beard and mustache looked immediately after leaving the shop. I got a haircut and beard shape/trim.The barbering on the beard was very bad. I didn’t realize how poor the mustache trim job was until I left. I came here because when looking online it seems they are the experts at beard barbering. Tons of pics of guys with nice beards. What I deciphered afterward is that most (probably all) of these pics are from a staged fashion show event. Not pics of monthly cuts from regular clients. I have had a beard for six years. I have trimmed it myself, and saw many barbers. I have had some great trims, and some poor trims. My barber for the past three years in Portland, OR was very very good. We discussed beard barbering each visit and he taught me a lot about properly trimming and shaping a beard. Sarah (owner and person in many of the beard pics) committed several of the don’t does of beard barbering. She didn’t trim with the natural shape of my beard, she added product right before trimming (adds weight, changes natural shape), she rushed, didn’t listen to what I wanted (trimmed the mustache WAYYYY! shorter than I wanted. I said “Off the bottom lip, but covering top lip), didn’t account for symmetry (even though I attempted to explain how it grows differently side to side), she pulled out on the beard as she trimmed it (a big don’t as the hair will spring back to its original/natural position). And the worst of it, I left with a mustache over-trimmed on one side, and barely touched on the other (see pictures. Really bad. I can’t believe they let me walk out like that). She spent no more than 5 minutes on my beard trim for the price of $20. Way overpriced. That’s not even an acceptable rate for this level of service in a major city, let alone Grand Rapids. Overall she rushed through it far too quickly, didn’t listen to me at all, and didn’t put in effort I would have expected for even a $5 trim.Sarah mentioned she has a ton of beard experience. It didn’t show in my service. She mentioned she does beard competitions. I believe she might. But from what I saw I am thinking she relies heavily on the use of product rather than trimming and shaping as a barber for natural day to day wear. I really don’t know. I didn’t get anything close the a competition level trim, I have a pretty easy beard to trim. It’s big, full, and has a great natural shape. I’m guessing maybe they do a good job on one-time beard styling for competitions or weddings, but I didn’t like what I got for daily wear or for a monthly trim.My appointment was originally scheduled with Sarah. I came in and she said she was switching me to Kaycie due to schedule. I didn’t mind as it was my first time in. Kaycie was great. She listened intently and gave me a very good haircut with a solid fade. When we got to the beard I asked her if she had much experience with barbering beards like mine. When I started explaining what I needed for a trim it became apparent she did not feel comfortable and didn’t have the experience. Sarah jump in and started doing the trim. She didn’t ask what I wanted or needed. She approached it with the attitude that she knows best. As I said earlier, nothing she did was in line with best practices of beard barbering. As I said before. I am no beard rookie. I have had a very nice full beard for six years. I’ve had very very good beard barbers in cities like Seattle WA and Portland OR. I’ve also done my fair share of self trims and studying beard trimming. This salon is not a beard barbering expert shop as they portray in their marketing and social media. This critical review is not necessarily to put anyone on blast. It is meant to inform others so they do not make the same mistake. You’re better off attempting your own beard trim.
I go to Sarah for my haircuts as she always does a great job! Very convenient and I often request say day appointments (which are almost always accommodated). Definitely recommend!
Best salon in Grand Rapids! Quality environment with quality people. Sarah is my go to stylist, she does tremendous work and has a ton of knowledge when it comes to getting the type of haircut you’re looking for.
Ive gotten my hair done by Sarah for years. Love her ability to give me an amazing style every time. I wish I could recommend her to everyone... then realized, I can, here on Google. Go see Head of the Pride. You wont regret it.
This is hands down the best salon in Grand Rapids. I have been a client of Sarahs for almost 4 years now and have always received the best cuts. I had always wanted to try extensions but after being told by other stylists over the years my hair would be too hard to match I was nervous to ever take the plunge. Sarah walked me through the entire process at our consultation and took plenty of time to make sure everything would be perfect. I couldnt be happier with how they turned out and wont ever go anywhere else!
Got one of the best cuts of my life here. I’m an actor from New York and rather specific about my hair for work purposes, and Kaycie took her time and diligently made sure I got the perfect length and style. Couldn’t recommend highly enough. Thanks!!
Ive been a client Sarahs for several years now, and I absolutely love her. I was so excited when she decided to open her own salon and have been very impressed with every part of it, from the location to the interior design to the products they carry.I have thin, curly hair and have gone to few stylists that understand how to cut hair that can be styled well both curly and straight. Sarah is truly knowledgeable about her profession and I have never once been disappointed when I walked out the door. My hair is thicker, healthier, and more put together since I started going to Sarah and taking her advice on products and styling.I have many friends that are clients of Sarahs and the list keeps growing. Ive seen her do excellent work on mens cuts, womens cuts, coloring, and extensions. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to fall in love with their hair - she can make it happen!
Head of the Pride is the place to go if you want to feel beautiful. The staff are friendly and dedicated. Especially Ashley she does an amazing job. She listen to your request and give you tips on how to maintain a beautiful healthy hair. Love this place!
Best haircut Ive had in years! Vince is definitely a professional, mens barber!
Always love my visits to this shop. I get great service and leave feeling like a brand new me. My cut and color feel fresh everytime, and the experience is always welcoming and fun.
Great place but Jodi left :(
As another beauty industry owner, I was really disappointed in this salon. My husband and I were in town for a mini-moon and we needed hair products for NYE. They were one of the few salons open in the area that carried the Oribe products I was looking for. We left our midday plans early, to make sure we werent arriving at the last minute, and when we arrived at 3:11pm the whole business was locked and shut down, dark and no one to be seen. We had to do a double take at the time since it was clearly posted on the door that they were supposed to be open for almost another hour. Checked online and nothing was posted about hour changes. It was incredibly infuriating and couldnt believe on a holiday weekend, on a Saturday in a tourist town, that a place cant employ at least one employee to stay open until their posted times and feel like the business wasted our time and money by having to pay for transportation to get the the salon, only to have to turn around and immediately request another vehicle to go to somewhere else. So not only did they close down early, with no notification of any reason why (Family emergency? Changed holiday hours?), but they also lost out on a sale that would have easily been around $200 since the Oribe products are not cheap. I should not have to call ahead to a business to make sure they will still be open at the time they say they will be. That feels a little redundant.
I’m a fairly new customer and have had the pleasure of having my hair done by Nikki. Though she is a fairly new stylist, she has done great work and Sarah is always close by to offer suggestions and assistance if needed
I had a great surprise from Head of the Pride on Christmas morning. I opened a gift from my daughter to find a razor, soap and shaving brush, and after-shave cream. I was a long-time user of cheapo-disposable razors, I guess because they were quick and easy, and well, cheap. As a result, I have suffered nearly fifty years of lousy, sometimes painful shaves whose primary attraction was that they were cheap and fast. I always kind of thought that using a razor with an actual razor place in it, and especially a shaving brush and soap was just too much fuss.WOW, was I wrong! Using the Baxter razor, brush and soap, taking all of ten minutes in the process, gave me THE GREATEST SHAVE of my life! Now, shaving is no longer a pain (literally), and makes my face feel like it must have when I was about five years old. Yes, it takes a bit longer, a few minutes, but I think my face and how it looks and feels afterward is worth it. Isnt it time for men to take the time to look their best, and maybe feel better about all of it in the process? And the cost? Dont make me laugh. Once youre in, with a razor and brush, the cost of staying in soap and razor blades is so cheap youll never look at a Bic again. So, heres my suggestion. The next time youre in to Head of the Pride to get the worlds greatest haircut (yeah, I do that, too), listen to what Sarah has to tell you about taking care of your face. She really knows what shes talking about. Im glad I finally listened. Thanks, Sarah.
I really loved my hair dresser, but she left so i wont be going back
My hair with amazing just wish the prices were a little better
Kaycie did a fantastic job . The salon was clean and i was very comfortable during my visit . Thanks again KC for the great Hair cut
Amazing, fast, and really know what they are doing there. You dont even have to tell them how you want your hair, they know how to make you look pretty professional and great!
Ive been going to Sarah for hair services for about 5 years. Sure, there are lots of other places one could choose to go, but I keep going back to her - - because shes doing it right - LOVE her!
Best Hair Salon in GR! Have been a client for 2+ years. Love the people, love the atmosphere, and love the cuts!
Great service, very peaceful and relaxing. Ashley is great
Friendly, real people, willing to take the time to take care of you. Not a speed cut like some places
Great haircut with a great friendly atmosphere everytime! A++
The new Head of the Pride Salon (444 Bridge St NW) is relaxed yet full of passion like its Westside neighborhood. Owner Sarah Dilley-Couture got her chops working at clip joints around town, namely Cheeky Strut for five years. Now she’s on her own since June. “I wanted to create an atmosphere that is a huge melting pot like the neighborhood, said Sarah. “Everyone gets the same luxury experience and the salon feels like home.” Even men have found their way to Head of the Pride, making up half of the clientele. Said Sarah, who trained with master barber Kurt Kueffner, “We are called the beard salon now. Men want to be groomed nicely and beards require lots of maintenance.” The salon offers beard crafting to keep that face forest in fine fettle. Look for Beard Bricks face wash and moisturizer to keep from turning into Ted Kaczynski. Ladies don’t fret. Hair is Sarah’s passion and she is building a high quality staff that shares her passion. The six-chair salon offers luxury products from Oribe, Hotheads, and Balmain.
My hair and beard was a mess and they did a great job.
Rude on the phone and even hung up on me because i didnt want to schedule an appt.
Best hair place in town
Katie is the bomb!
