BJ and his staff are super friendly and experts of their craft. I never call ahead for an appointment (although that is an option) and usually don’t have to wait. I can be in and out in 20-30 minutes. Regardless of who cuts my hair, I know it will be done right and to my satisfaction. Lastly, I have to mention the hot towel and back of the neck shave. It’s a great way to end a haircut, feeling fresh and relaxed.

I was looking for a new place to get my hair cut that was nearby where I go out for breakfast, and I stumbled on this barber shop. The inside is clean and has a lot of gators memorabilia, which made it clear they have been in this town a while. My haircut was excellent and the barber was easy to talk to the whole time. I found my new place for haircuts in Gainesville.

I have been going to the downtown barber shop for about 14 years, very reasonably priced and excellent hair cut from either BJ or Dara! Excellent job on the haircuts, they shave your neck in the back with a razor and trim your eyebrows too, which is really important if I dont want to look like Lloyd Bridges! At eighteen bucks, Plus a few dollars tip of course, it is a great value and they are very friendly!

Ive been there a couple times now. They do what you ask for. Always looks good. This is my new spot that Ive been looking for awhile now.

I just went into this place after letting my hair grow for over 4 weeks, expecting a decent cut. I just got THE ABSOLUTE WORST haircut Ive ever had in my life. This old guy in there COMPLETELY DESTROYED my hair, even after I had showed him a detailed picture and talked more about what I wanted. He totally lobbed off all the length on the top, unevenly, and gave me the worst fade I have ever seen... he used a buzzer with no clippers making it all one length on the sides and patchy/uneven on the back. ITS HORRIBLE. He then proceeds to argue with me after I told him I was not happy with the results. He accused me of wanting a free haircut. WHY WOULD I WANT MY HAIR RUINED LIKE THIS, EVEN FREE, you ornery old bastard??? Screw this place. Inmates in prison dont even deserve this kind of haircut because its just cruel and unusual.

BJ was an awesome barber. High quality haircut that even comes with a straight edge neck shave. Very clean cut that didnt take long to do. Highly recommend.

But I did my research and after looking around town at the few barbers our town has I choose this one and was not disappointed. The friendly, experienced(thats 20+ years a person, not combined) and knowledgeable staff took care of me and will have me coming back for more business in the future. This place is The Best. Great service, BJ and the hair stylists are very friendly, you quickly feel like you belong. Modern styles and others are offered here, theyre pretty knowledgeable! Great haircuts to be sure, but my favorite thing there is getting a hot shave. BJs been doing it for a long time, sure hand and a good eye for level trimming and shaping. Several hot towels, a few different skin creams designed to open and close the pores at different points in the shave, and hes got it down to a science, and it feels incredible! I dont know about the rest of me, but my beard always looks great when I leave Downtown Barbershop :)

Do NOT trust them with your beard. They cut it unevenly.In addition, they didnt cut my hair to be consistent with the style I wear and desired.Seemed rushed. Fasted haircut Ive received in a very long time. And the poorest. Theyre lucky to receive 2 out of 5.

As a man, this is the best place in Gainesville Ive found to get my hair cut. They consistently do an amazing job with my hair. Theyre quick, friendly, and the price is unbeatable. I also love the old style barbershop feel of the place, and I always find myself distracted with great conversation, so the haircut flies by!I was even allowed to bring in my dog the one time I had him with me. I started to tie him up outside and BJ came out and encouraged me to tie him up to a chair in the waiting area in the front of the shop.And if youre looking to treat yourself, get yourself a hot shave. Its as good as a massage! I will be a loyal customer here for as long as Im in Gainesville.

Found this place a few years ago from a coupon in the Alligator. They cut it all well... give the full service down to the hot close shave!!

Terrible! Woman cut far too quickly and pulled my hair the entire time. Haircut looked terrible--uneven and choppy. She had no regard for my desired style etc. Would never go here again. Extremely overpriced and there are MUCH BETTER BARBERS IN GAINESVILLE. I think they survive financially by ripping off naïve college students. They wont rip this one off again!

If you are looking for the most basic and generic of short mens haircuts then go here, otherwise, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. This guy chopped me up. I went in after growing my hair out for two months and asked for short sides and a quarter inch off of the top. I even had a picture of the exact haircut I wanted. The first thing this guy does is chop a whole inch right across my bangs and the top. I didnt complain because at that point it wouldve been pointless but save yourself the time and money and go to a more modern barber if youre looking for anything more than high and tight.

I have been here on two occasions. The first time was with B. Webster. Decent cut and great conversation. Price is pretty high for Gainesville. No reason to choose this place over anywhere else really. Is never really busy either. You have to pay coins in the meter to go here.Second occasion, I walked in, a barber walked up and told me to take a seat. I said I had to go to my car for a moment. Then I was basically interrogated!! after saying I needed to add money to the meter (I really wanted to check on my car, its not in the best part of town). She asked why? I told her. She said haircuts dont take an hour. I told her I was just using forethought in case of a line. Again, more questions. What haircut takes that long?. I said whats your deal lady? (I think she was afraid of losing my business since it was so slow). The manager chimes in from the back of the store. I tell him that she is basically interrogating me. Instead of being a good manager, he 1) yells from the back of the store 2) keeps using his iPad, 3) does not apologize for the barbers behavior or anything!Needless to say.....I am never coming back here.TLDR: Expensive. Poor Management. 50/50 staff. Bad area. Great Atmosphere though

The barbers are not particularly good at taking directions, make sure you tell them exactly what you want, and then tell them again to be sure. Also at $18 the price seemed a bit high.

I asked for the back of my bob to be trimmed. The lady shaved off all my hair. Now I look like a 12 year old boy and have to grow out my hair for a year. The worst part is it’s not even a good short hair cut, she left long bits by my ears.

The lady who cut my hair was nice but there really is nothing special about this place, especially at $17.50 for a trim! I wont be back just because of price.
