I started CrossFit over a month ago and I am loving it! I was nervous about joining a CrossFit gym, especially as a beginner, but Alex (owner), the coaches and other members have made me feel extremely welcomed. I am a physical therapist, so form is very important to me with exercises. The coaches are fantastic about modifying exercises individually for each member and correcting form/technique. I have been very impressed with this gym and would highly recommend.
When I first decided to start CrossFit I didnt know what to expect, but Im so glad I took the leap and tried something new! What I found at CrossFit South Wake was a kind, welcoming community all with a common goal of self improvement. Alex, the owner, is incredible - both as a person and as a trainer. He truly cares about the health and safety of all who attend his classes. Hes excellent at teaching new people how to safely do the movements, always explaining in a way thats clear and backed by the science of how the body works. I cannot recommend Alex and his business enough. If youre even a little interested in crossfit, try CrossFit South Wake. You wont regret it!
Ive been a member of CrossFit South Wake since April. My experience so far has exceeded my expectation. CFSW has great coaches that care about their students fitness goals. They try to help you achieve it. Im in the best shape Ive been in years.The best part for me is the community at CFSW. Everyone is treated equally, and the members help each other out. A couple of weeks ago, we had a Cookout and had a corn hole tournament. Alex, the owner, really tries to do his best to establish a culture of unity. I love it!

Being new to the area, it has been not only a great place to workout but the community is AMAZING!After a year off of CrossFit, Alex and his team have helped me get back into shape and it’s been incredible to see the progress in only a few short months. Where in previous gyms I was reluctant to add on weight for the WODS, the coaches encourage you to push past your mental blocks as they know you can push it physically. They are supportive in every way!Also the community and friends I’ve made make the WODS WAY more fun, plus the occasional #TacoTuesday is a blast!
After recently moving to the area, I was in search of a gym that provided a community feel while still having a competitive atmosphere. CrossFit South Wake provides both of those things. The coaches tailor the workouts to each student’s needs, everyone is friendly and welcoming, and every workout is a new challenge. CrossFit South Wake has my highest recommendation.

I love this Crossfit gym! The classes and programming are top notch, there are some great coaches here who will help you with proper technique and good scaling choices, and the community is supportive and awesome! I have made many new friends here who help keep me accountable.

Great place to train! Being brand new to crossfit, my wife and I were impressed with all of the coaching staff. They are extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel like part of the family! The coaches work with each participant to make sure the workouts are appropriate for any skill level. Over the past year of membership we have both greatly improved our crossfit skills and overall fitness. This is a great gym to join if you are looking to challenge yourself and learn more about crossfit in a friendly team environment.
Crossfit is new to me. Its been about 2 months Id like to say that Ive been with this gym. I have to say they are very patient with me, also till this day still able to help me improve my form or any correction that I may need. It feels like youve known the people for so long due to how friendly, upbeat and fun everyone is. No judgment, no awkwardness floating around. The class will have you work up a sweat for sure even for those who been at it for quite some time in the crossdit field.
I have been a member of CrossFit Southwake since March 5th, 2021. I absolutely love the place, coaches, and people. Having different background in workouts, CrossFit seemed a little intimidating, but I was wrong. CrossFit Southwake made me feel like I belonged. They stole my heart and my breath lol. First, CrossFit was quick to respond and offered a free week, which allowed me to really experience the classes, get to know the coaches and get to know the members. The coaches are great! I have made many new friends. What I regret is not finding it before. Also, something very important to me is that the gym is big, clean, and well organized.Thank you CrossFit Southwake for making my workouts always challenging and for being part of my journey. I recommend it 1000%.
I visited 2 crossfit places for their free trials. I was glad I went with Crossfit South Wake. From day 1 I felt welcomed, Alex who is the owner keeps an open communication line if you have any questions. The coaches take their time to explain the workouts and teaches you to keep form at all time. Friendly, professional and fun!
I started here back in August of 2018. The coaches and the friends I’ve made have become family.Both my boys workout with Cricket Bankston with his athlete strength and conditioning program.

Just got one of my kids involved in the youth wrestling program here and it was nothing but positive. Even though its late in the season, the coaches took time out to get him a little extra help and to feel like a part of the team. The owner, John Harper, is a dedicated motivator, an asset to the community and the type of person you want involved in training and mentoring your kids.
Fantastic, family oriented environment. This is a very clean,and well run gym. The owner, as well as several of the Coaches, have extensive military experience and backgrounds. Athletes of all fitness levels are welcomed here and become part of a close knit family. The WODs are programmed with safety as a priority but you are taught to test your limits and push yourself. My teenage son has been a member for a few years and this has become his second home. The time that he has spent there has helped him grow and mature in ways that far outweigh fitness alone and are truly immeasurable . Signing him up is the single best investment I have ever made .
I have been going to CrossFit South Wake for over a month now along with my wife. I am definitely getting into way better shape and enjoy the workouts. There are several workout times throughout the day so I can almost always work Crossfit into my busy schedule. John is an excellent instructor and motivator and I highly recommend CrossFit South Wake to anyone interested in a great workout experience. I am looking forward to the Spring classes and especially those that will be offered for young athletes so I can get my kids in there.

John is an incredible instructor, capable of both ramping up newbies (like me) and also of pushing seasoned cross-fitters. I cant recommend these guys enough! Very friendly, collaborative environment, but with enough intensity to get the competitive juices flowing.

You can thank me later.Being a triathlete and distance runner for over 6 years, I found that while I was able to complete races, I was just not as competitive as I wanted to be. Even constant swim, bike, and run training was not enough. I have found the answer at Crossfit! In just 75 days I am now in the best shape of my life, period, and I feel like I am just getting started. I will be doing my first Full distance Iron Man this Fall (2015), and I am looking to crush it!I want to take a moment to thank John Harper for the amazing impact this has been on my life. The workouts that he schedules make an impact on your whole body and your total fitness level. Crossfit South Wake has the BEST staff! Everyone of them is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and super supportive. They know when to push and when to tell you not to bite off more than you can chew.I look forward to 6 am every day now, no matter what insanity is posted the night before. I even find myself planning strategy while trying to go to sleep and getting pumped up for the movements that I know are my weakness.
I began going to Crossfit South Wake a year ago. I have never been a very athletic person & at the time I was having medical problems & had gained weight that I was not happy about. I cannot believe the difference a year has made! The strength and endurance I have gained, the weight I have lost & the ability to do things better than I could before keeps me going. It has made a huge difference in my life. I never thought I would enjoy this as much as I do! Never count yourself short in being able to do this if you never had before. Crossfit will help you find the person you didnt know was there & have at the same time! I never knew I could enjoy sweating!
The staff at CrossFit South Wake are top notch. The facility is everything you need, and none of the things you dont. They have programs and memberships to meet everyones needs.

Ive been working out at Crossfit South Wake for about 7 months now. We just did the Angie WOD again for a benchmark. In 3 months I decreased my time by 6:01. The programming by our coaches just flat out works!

This place has changed my life. I didnt work out at all before I started here. I didnt know anything about lifting weights. Now Im addicted to setting PRs. I didnt think I could ever do a pullup, but I can! Everything can be modified for beginners like me. This is also a fantastic group of people. You can meet other beginners who are struggling with you and watch the super athletes string their muscle ups and sprint through every WOD Rxd. Theres a tremendous sense of community. Everyone is rooting for each other, no one is going to judge you for what you cant do as long as you show up and try. The coaches are knowledgeable and approachable. If youre thinking about it at all, come give it a try!
My husband and I have always been active and both were involved in sports growing up, so we are no strangers to the gym...but CrossFit wasnt around when we were younger. I was introduced to Crossfit when the police department where my husband works opened a gym (on the other side of Cary) that offered CrossFit programming and he started working out there. I almost immediately saw a change in his physic...like most men, his body changed quickly the way that he wanted it to. For me, like most women, I can just look at a piece of cake and gain 5 lbs! So, I went to one of the workouts shortly after recovering from the birth of our second child...it was hard and I was SO out of shape. I was excited about CrossFit, but now excited about how far the gym was away from my house...so I didnt fit it in. So when I saw signs that a CrossFit gym was going to open up just feet away from where I took my kids to daycare, I was so EXCITED!I started working out at CrossFit South Wake in January 2014...new year...new me...right?!?! After two kids and being the heaviest (non-pregnant) I have ever been in my life...I was looking for the most bang for my buck in a workout. I dont have all the time in the world to go lollygag at the gym. I work full-time and have two kids to chase around, dinner to prepare, baths to give, and night-time stories to read.I remember one of the first workouts I did at CrossFit South Wake was Barbara, which is 5 rounds for time of 20 pull ups, 30 push ups, 40 sit ups, and 50 air squats. Sounds awful, right? Whats nice about CrossFit is that every workout can be scaled down to your current fitness level/abilities. I, of course, did Barbara scaled and could only make it through 2 rounds...it took me 7.24 minutes for round 1 and 9.50 for round 2! About 3 months later, we did Barbara again...this time I completed the workout and did all 5 rounds in under 5 minutes each round! The progress Ive seen and the strength Ive gained have been AWESOME! Since January, Ive lost ~4% body fat, 2 inches off my waist alone, and gained 2 lbs lean mass. I dont know if thats a lot of not, but thats phenomenal to ME!The coaching staff at CFSW are AMAZING, very knowledgeable and always pushing you beyond your comfort zone (because thats where the magic happens)! The programming is constantly varied and there is always a skill that you can work on obtaining and then improving. The encouragement from the fellow athletes is so refreshing. Its so nice to go to a gym and actually have the person working out beside you cheering you on, you wont find that anywhere else. The CrossFit South Wake family is top notch!CrossFit South Wake is QUALITY. You will not find what CFSW has to offer at any other gym in this area. If you have the dedication and give it all you have each time, you will not be disappointed!What I think I might like most about CFSW is that feeling you get after youve completed a workout that you know 2 weeks ago you couldnt have completed. Its ADDICTING and Im a CrossFit Junkie! If you are serious about getting in the best shape of your life and having the most fun doing it...CFSW is the place for you!
My husband and I joined Crossfit South Wake in the beginning of December 2013.I was terrified. You can ask Coach John; I emailed him ready to chicken out of going before Id even started. John talked me into coming and trying it.That first workout- I cried. Anyone who says, theres no crying in Crossfit, is wrong. It was so hard and I was so terribly out of shape that I cried... and then John helped motivate me to get through the workout.And we signed up for a year membership.The Crossfit South Wake community and coaches are INCREDIBLE. Such a wonderful group of people work out here. We laugh, we cheer, we sweat, and we have FUN. I never knew that working out could be so wonderfully enjoyable.Remember: Finished last is better than did not finish is better than did not start.Ive often finished last- but Im a million miles ahead of the people that didnt get off the couch.Im currently pregnant and yes, I still do crossfit. The coaches are absolutely wonderful about working with me and making sure that I get a great workout without putting baby or me at risk. They will help you out and work with you no matter what your worries or fears are.Ive heard people say, Im not in good enough shape to do Crossfit. That simply isnt true. The best way to get into shape for Crossfit is by doing Crossfit!Stop by for a visit. Watch a class, come to one of the Saturday social events... this is a wonderful place, and you deserve the best.
