I can’t say enough about these guys. Some of the nicest dudes I’ve met and they were lifesavers. I came in on a Friday morning with something going on in the back end of my van. I’m not from Flagstaff and needed to get back on the road or else I would’ve been stuck here through the weekend. At first they were doubtful they could help me because they were slammed but offered to take a look. 2 hours later they figured out what was wrong, made a quick fix and sent me on my way. I couldn’t believe it. Gene and his crew are incredible and if you are ever passing through flagstaff with car troubles I’d HIGHLY recommend these guys. 5 stars isn’t enough.

Our brake lines blew out coming off the freeway to get gas. Major incident, had to call tow truck and police. Terrible morning and terrible start to our trip. TAG was not even open yet but they answered the phone and had zero problem being our superhero for the day! They diagnosed the major issue with blown brake lines and found the parts not even in flagstaff. After we enjoyed bike riding around Flagstaff for the day they called and had us back on the road before the shop closed for the day. They saved our trip and even our pocket books. We thought it was going to cost an arm and a leg but they totally took care of us. What should have been a horrible miserable day turned out to be just a inconvenient memory. Diagnosed major engine issues for no charge. ...after looking around I found they gave a stranded traveller sound advice and a market competetive price for major repairs. No pressure,, no rip offs... I had to leave it with them for several weeks to get it fixed. communication and honesty were top notch. If I lived nearby these guys would be my go to! ...thank you gents!

They stand by their word. This includes time, price, and workmanship guarantees. You wont need a 2nd opinion on a repair. Trust them to do it right at the right price.

It is hard to find an auto mechanic that will give you quality work at a fair price and that is why I will only go to this shop. They will not try to upsell you to try and make more money. If a repair is not needed, they will let you know. When they do repair your vehicle it will be needed and they will do the repair correctly and a great price. If they do happen to find something wrong that I did not know about, I trust it needs to be repaired/replaced. If you are looking for an honest mechanic, go visit this shop.

The location might turn some off but this is a small local biz and they know their stuff. They won’t try and sell you the 10 other things that could be done to your vehicle but aren’t truly necessary at this time. Have patience, part shortages are real right now. Gene sourced new struts for my Mazda CX-5 from Phoenix and had my car back to me by the weekend. Rides like new now!

I had my door lock actuator replaced here, service was very efficient and of good quality. Cost was also better compared to other local automotive places, and they had my vehicle ready way faster than expected. Customer service very good and relaxed, I would very much recommend.

Fall 2019, TAG replaced my brakes and wheel bearings. They also worked on my A/C electrical and coolant system.Spring 2020, I brought my truck back to them to service it before I did some long-distance driving. After inspection, they told me my wheel bearings were shot and that I should replace the brakes as well, to be safe.I reminded them that they had replaced both of those 6 months earlier. They were kind and told me they would warranty out the wheel bearings and replace them for free. Great news! They also replaced my shocks during this visit.Ten days later, I’m driving across the country and keep hearing this grinding sound. When I bring the truck in to a mechanic in Michigan, they tell me the wheel bearings are toast.I replace them with this shop in Michigan and they’ve been great ever since.The whole situation makes me wonder whether the wheel bearings ever got replaced via warranty during my May visit. I don’t have any record of them being replaced, because as the representative at TAG told me, it wasn’t worth the paperwork and time. I felt at the time that I should have gotten something in writing, but I took their word for it.They are the only mechanic I’ve used in Flagstaff, and some things they’ve worked on have been great, but the whole wheel bearing situation was a let down.As I’m getting ready for another long drive, and would like some service on my truck, I would like to bring it here, but I’m worried.

Fixed a broken bolt in my engine with no issues.

Went in for a pre-trip check up, and found out my radiator was bad. They replaced it at a reasonable price, and really quickly. They were super nice, very affordable, and even sanitized my keys and the inside of my car after working on it.

TAG has always taken care of my familys vehicles. They are reasonable and prompt with their service. Car troubles can be very frustrating and TAG eliminates some of that with the way they take care of their clients.

Honest, dependable auto repair. Fast work. My husband brought his car in for an ac check and they found a radiator leak that wouldve caused him trouble when he headed to TX the next day. I had my van in for brake work also just prior. All while we were there on vacation.

Outstanding service. I was passing through flagstaff on a road trip adventure when My alternator decided it wanted to take up permanent residence in flagstaff and Tag gladly gave it a new home and had me back on the road in under an hour!!!

Do not use this business for your auto repairs. They charged me $51 to tell me I needed spark plugs. I bet they just took a spark plug out and looked at it, if that. they should have done a compression test to tell me that my number 3 cylinder was not working. They wanted to charge me $108 for spark plugs when that was not the problem. Use r&A automotive instead. in addition I replaced the spark plugs for $2 a piece myself and it took me all of 10 minutes. But spark plugs the were not the problem. A reputable place would have had a better system for diagnosing the problem.I would have gladly paid even more money if they had just said weve gone over all the key systems and we found the problem

Car started overheating on the way up to Snowbowl. Called and described my issue and they were able to fix my water pump immediately. Would highly recommend to anyone. Great service!

So I posted a low rated review that was honest but percieved as negative. The owner called me first thing in the morning offering to correct any issues. I will be deleting my low rating as soon as it is available it turns out there was a just a communication error on both ends I am at fault too. They do amazing work and are more than fair if you read my post that is a low rating before I can remove it please disregard it.

I live in Prescott and happily drive to Flagstaff (or have had my car towed before) to ensure Tag Automotive takes care of my cars and my truck since 2013. I was having a cold start issue with my Toyota Tacoma. These guys put a lot of time into figuring out what the problem was and getting it taken care of for me. They also Gave me a great deal for everything they did on my truck. I will go to them again and would recommend them without hesitation !!!!!!!

My Ford Escape had a major transmission fluid leak, and these guys got me in the next day, repaired the axle seal as soon as the part came in, and it was less expensive than I was expecting. No BS, just quick and honest work.

Honest mechanics are few and far between- Gene and Tom are the exception! Im always hesitant to visit a mechanic- theres so many bad ones out there, you never know what youre dealing with. Ive been to TAG multiple times with 3 different vehicles. Gene and Tom have always been honest, straight forward, and good on their pricing. Theres been more than one time where they could have lied and ripped me off, but they told they were truthful.I had a front wheel bearing go out on my old car. I was ready to replace both front wheel bearings, but they talked me out of it- they talked me out of paying them more money! My truck quit running while on the road, and I had it towed to TAG. I was expecting potentially $600+ in repairs. They determined it was something with the ignition, which ran $150- again, they could have lied, and charged way more, but they were honest!Stop by or call TAG before visiting anywhere else in town!

These guys replaced my oil pan when I needed it so I appreciate it but they over tightened the bolt so now I have to replace it again. Charged me $815 for the repair and now Im doing it for $325 at a different shop. Such a price difference I think they took advantage of my situation.

They had a price quote as good as any in town, and they were really down to earth guys. Easy to talk to. They get the job done, which is the whole point of car repair. You cant always expect them to kiss your butt with friendly customer service, but instead theyre honest and professional, which I would prefer over customer service any day... especially with my car. I needed a new clutch and clutch hydraulics, and they had it fixed in 3 days, exactly when they told me theyd have it done. The price was exactly what I was quoted on the phone. The reason I havent given them 4 stars is because the clutch noise never went away. But my car still starts and drives. The bottom line is this: I trust them to do what they say theyll do, unlike a lot of car repair shops in Flagstaff.

Tom and Gene are always ready to take a look at the problem, right away (often right on the spot!), and have the quickest turn-around times of any automotive shop Ive ever been to. Today I stopped in with no appointment at 1:00, and they got me back on the road by 3:30, after replacing a failing water pump, t-stat, and serp belt!! Anyone else would have only scheduled an appointmemt for a later day. Ive had them tackle everything from brakes & shocks to a full, rear differential replacement, and everything in between. Very satisfied with all the work. With four vehicles in our household, these guys keep our lives in motion. THEY ALWAYS GET ER DONE!

After talking to two different shops I towed my car to Tag automotive. It would not start and I thought it was a starter. It turned out to be a part in the ignition that was broken.Two things I greatly appreciate in doing business with tis auto shop (Gene was the guy I talked to). 1. They diagnosed the problem correctly within 15 minutes. 2. I do not live in Flagstaff and I told mechanic I am just passing by and needed my car fixed the same day. They had other cars in the shop but they fixed my car first because I was stuck in unknown city with no place to go. It took these guys about 15 minutes for diagnosis, about 30 min waiting for the part to be delivered, and about an hour to get the car fixed.After talking to my regular mechanic I was told that they charged me a fair price. I usually do not write reviews but I was impressed with prompt service and decided to do something nice for this guys by writing this five star review.If I someone I knew needed a recommendation for the auto shop I would recommend this place without hesitation.

After I had ordered a part and it was the wrong part they made sure to get the right one and have it all ready to go four hours later. Feels like my ten year old car is brand new. Fantastic experience. On our way to flagstaff we were getting loud vibrations from our car. TAG was only a few miles from our hotel and after a short phone call I felt very confident that they would solve the problem, as well as get us in right away. They gave me a ride back to my hotel and in half an hour called me with the issue, a bad wheel hub. The price was more than fair, but more important to me was the friendly, trustworthy service. Within 2 hours everything was better and we can drive home safely and enjoy our vacation with peace of mind. THANK YOU.

Gene was honest and thorough but we did not have time to wait for the parts to arrive--Parts availability is a common problem in rural towns. But Gene was awesome and helped us understand what parts were needed; and he offered to explain the repairs needed to our mechanic at home in Portland, OR.He also checked our computer codes and reset check engine light for free.I would take my car to get fixed to them again.

Check engine light went back on, car stalled again and mph needle bounced again. Took it back to be reevaluated and so far so good. Check engine light off... no needle bounce... time will tell.

TAG was great. Ive brought my car in to them twice. Both times, I got a low price and good work. They repaired my 1995 Chevy 2500 and my 2007 Subaru Forester. I went to one of the other auto shops in town and was not treated nearly as fairly (they charged me over $300 for a temporary repair to my door latches with no new parts, probably took them 15 minutes, and wanted to charge me 2K for fixing my door hinges.) These guys did a full clutch & transmission replacement for that subaru for under $3000 (including parts). They are my go-to choice of mechanics in Flagstaff

We needed emergency service on our van to drive all the way back to Wisconsin, they got us right in, and did a great job!

I have had some alternator problems and battery problems, and TAG made it a relatively pain free process of getting them fixed. When I dropped off my car, I thought it would take forever and was stressing about the cost. It only took them 2 hours to change out my alternator, and with their 10% student discount, the price was really reasonable. They also caught that the remanufactured alternator that I purchased at OReileys was bad and had them switch it out instead of making me come back and switch out the part myself. I think if I have any more issues with my car, I will definitely be taking it back to TAG. They were so helpful and nice. Overall, great service and a job well done!

Just outside of Flagstaff, on a 9 hour road trip and a plane to catch in another state, i had vehicle troubles. I was freaking out. After realizing the Dodge dealer was out of business, i called TAG and he said hed gladly scan my truck to see what was possibly going on. He met me in the lot when i pulled up, ready to go. Very professional, very helpful, and explained everything to me. In the end, i was able to get back on the road, and we didnt have any more problems with the truck and have since put over 1,000 miles on it. I would not hesitate to go back to TAG with any of my vehicles, and recommend to anyone in town, or pasing through - this is the place to go.

I went to Big O for some squeals from the front brakes and sure enough they found problems with them, advising that I turn the rotors. I called a few places around town and some were happy enough to do the job while others were skeptical that the service was needed.I took it into TAG and they said they would take it apart and look at the brake assembly to assess the problem. They were upfront and honest throughout the process, and even took the car out on the road to confirm suspicions. Eventually, to my disbelief, they told me that nothing really needed to be done and the car was as safe as ever. Its rare to find a repair shop that will tell you that you dont need anything done, and wont charge you for the assessment on top of that!

I have had nothing but good luck and solid service from TAG. Ive used them for repairs on my older Jeep a few times now and they have been honest and fixed the various issues. I have also had them service my work vehicle with solid results. I will continue to use them in the future with no reservations.

67% mark-up on brake pads!!We went to TAG to get an oil change and general service, which revealed that the front brakes pads and rotors needed to be replaced (which was no surprise). They completed the service but when my spouse showed me the receipt I was a bit shocked that they charged us $152 for a pair of brake pads (not incl. labor or tax). I called the local dealer to find out how much they cost and they said $95! I called TAG to ask why the pads were so much and the first guy I spoke with couldn’t give me an answer and passed me off to another guy who said the pads were ‘ultra premium’, were at cost, and included an unwritten lifetime warranty. When I continued to question the discrepancy with the dealer’s price, he became aggressive, after which I requested their ‘warranty’ in writing and the actual brake pad parts number (since he said the parts # on the invoice was not the actual pads that they installed).A couple hours later I got a call from another guy at the shop who insisted that they do not mark-up parts and were the ‘best deal in town’. I again requested their ‘warranty’ in writing and the parts number. I finally received it and called the local NAPA store to find out how much they charge for the pads that were installed in our car and they said $92! I then emailed TAG to again question why they marked-up the pads by 67% and requested they refund the difference between what they charged and retail (i.e. $60!). I never got a reply.So the bottom line is that it appears their so called warranty costs about $60! In that case they should have been upfront with us and state so accordingly instead of surreptitiously tacking the additional charge onto the price of the brake pads. If that was the case, we would have kindly declined the warranty, since we would rather take our chances at having to have the brakes repaired or replaced again than pay a $60 mark-up.At the end of the day we are willing to pay a little extra for our car to be serviced if we know that we are treated fairly and with respect, that the actual prices of parts (incl. correct parts #’s) and labor are clear and upfront, and that any additional costs for a warranty are explicitly stated upfront and the warranty is provided in writing on the date of service. Unfortunately that was not our experience with TAG.

I had work done on my daughters car in Las Vegas the day before she headed back to NAU. A few days later the car was making a lot of noise when she drove the car. I called TAG and spoke with Tom. My daughter drove the car to TAG and Tom went over the car where the noise and repairs were done. I was lucky it was just a poor repair from the other shop and Tom took care of it. Tom said it was a simple fix and would not take a payment from me. Ive had my share of bad service and work after moving to Las Vegas. Tom actually gave me a glimmer of hope that good honest people do exist. Thank you very very much!
