As someone visiting from out of town, it’s hard to find the best place to get your nails done. I’m very happy I chose Gel Nails and Spa. Mimi did a great job! She was quick without making me feel rushed. She filed down my dip nails and did gel on top (this is the cre8tion cotton candy color.) I will definitely come back when I’m in town!

Initially I had a bad experience here with my pedicure, but I came back t get my nails done because my Mom raved about Mimi and how great of a job she does. I havent been able to get my nails done for years because I developed an allergy with some of the chemicals being used. Mimi has a different technique and I am able to get my nails done and they look healthy and beautiful. Mimi looks at your nails and does somewhat of a consultation before she even touches them. You can tell she cares about her craft and your nails. I highly recommend getting your nails done here.

First impression:Not impressed with the quality of work received at this shop.I had to ask the tech (owner) 3 times to fix my nails, which are still uneven and not shaped the way I asked.Asked for squoval shaped nails..which is a regular shape used in nail salons.ended up with trapeze shaped...Nails are lumpy and misshaped.I felt my appt was rushed after she decided to call in the next appt early.I will spend my money elsewhere.

Paint job was weak, design was great for free hand, overall my gel nails still feel wet and I predict they will chip within 24 hours.

I must say that this was my first visit here but it wont be the last. Im very impressed with the skill and courtesy of the staff. I am so happy with the pedicure that I received.

I get my nails done once in a while and when I do I go to this nail salon. The salon itself is very clean and modern.The woman who did my nails was very meticulous. She made sure I was satisfied with the shape, length and colour. She filed my nails down perfectly so they did not look bumpy or thick like Ive had done before. My favourite place so far!

I came here yesterday, staff was lovely, place was clean, service was excellent. And my nails came out great, Im very happy how they came out. The lady who did my nails did a good job on cleaning my nail not leaving any dead skin or cuticle behind. They also have a great color selection and I love the gold foil.

Great service. Super clean environment. Lots of brand new massage chairs. Spacious, they offer you something to drink. Lots of color options. Friendly staff. Fair prices. Cool branding. Not a long wait to be seen though if you dont want to wait long best to have an appointment. I had a 3:45pm apt and was brought in around 4pm. Bathrooms are clean. I love that there are both male and female and all kinds of clientele, and I also love that there are men and women mani/pedicurists. It challenges the gender stereotypes for both customer and employee.It does smell a bit in here though, its not a stench or a gross smell but it is like an acetone/nail polish smell that isnt bad but its strong. The greeter at the door is super friendly and chit chats about your day. Overall great experience.

@@I was last month and went to and Salon for a gel manicure. It was the best gel manicure Ive ever gotten. Seriously. It lasted for over 3 weeks with no chipping at all. the business owner and the only manicurist in the shop and shes awesome. Shes very welcoming and really takes her time in shaping your nails and making sure the polish is smooth.She also guarantees the gel manicure for 2 weeks, meaning if it chips within 2 weeks you can come back and she will fix it for free. Her prices are reasonable also.***

Love this nail place! It books up fast so it is best to call ahead and make an appointment. Very friendly staff and clean location. They offer you a drink with your service which includes, tea, water, or even wine!! I love anywhere that offers wine while I get pampered a bit. They also have a large selection of polishes to choose from including gel and regular. I went for a pedicure and they did an amazing job. They are very careful about what they do and make sure you do not leave until it is fully dry. They also offer you to come back if anything were to chip right away. My pedicure lasted a very long time and I already cant wait to go back.**********

Went in as a walk-in and was squeezed in. Got a full set which he asked about the shape and length and did them just as I wanted. Got a peridure that was quick but amazing. Overall would recommend. Good service and do not overcharge!

Ive been going for a year. The owner did my nails for the first time on new years eve. She told me I shouldnt choose silver glitter polish because of my skin color. She touched my dark brown skin. I know I wasnt supposed to go back. I went today and the male did my nails. He did my fill inthen asked do I want color. When I said yes he asked do you want silver. He was sarcastic because it was what I wanted new years eve. I went on to pick a satin silver. He searched for it and he didnt have it. I already knew. So I picked a lavender glitter. It is a very forgiving color. It hides the holes, lumps and jagged edges. Will try to post pic.

Gel Nails & Spa was recommended to me by my friend who constantly gets her nails done. Hers are always nice and I wanted to try it out. My nail technician was Mai . She was very sweet and kept a conversation going. She was very patient with my nails and did everything nicely and not in a hurry. Ive been to salons and nail technicians and they were not as good as Mai, came up to me and ask how I like my nail service while I was getting my nails done. You can see that D is trying to engage with the customers which is good. This place also accepts Venmo!! Which I do not know any salons that have that which is a plus! Especially since they are located at University Village, lots of college students will think that is convenient! Overall, my service was great. I think Ive gotten five pedicures here, and its our current regular. Their pedicures last FOREVER- they arent even gel, just regular polish. The staff is great and very accommodating. They treat their clients with a lot of respect which is why I continue to go back.

Stopped in here to get a mani/pedi after reading great reviews. It smelled like fresh bleach when I walked in and the place was very clean! You wont have to worry about an infection here.She is the sweetest lady shes not jealous of anyone. If she doesnt post your picture its because she got busy. She runs the place and then she has children to go home to and take care of.They have a strict cancelation policy because its straight up rude to not show up to an appointment. A appointment means they are blocking out that time just for you. This place is so busy they usually have a wait list. You not showing is wasting the nail techs time and money. That could be time someone else could have used.This place is classy, elegant and wonderful; the loyal clients want to keep it that way. There are plenty of chop shop nail salons to go to if you dont like it here.******

This afternoon my daughter’s eyebrows were mutilated by one of the salon’s technicians. Her name is Addison. When presented with picture evidence, Addison actually lied and said that my daughter’s eyebrows were already like that(thin) when she came in the salon. Yes my daughter may fill in her eyebrows when wearing make-up, but without makeup they still pretty full. Not only were they trimmed way too thin, the eyebrows were uneven.(We have a recent no make up picture and the after mutilation picture but this rating website does not allow pictures to be posted)The fact that a licensed professional would actually lie is ethically wrong. The owners were gracious, kind and from the pictures they recognized the error.My recommendation is to not allow Addison work on your eyes. Addison needs more training in both her technique and definitely her professionalism. For Gel Nails I recommend for them to have a designated person to do eyebrows not just any of thestylist

Got gel on my finger nails and regular polish on the toes. The tech was thorough but kept clipping the sides of my nails- never again, my nails hurt. Application of the gel polish was good, but the toe nail polish was applied too thick so it ended up damaged because after an hour it still wasnt dry.I didnt really enjoy the atmosphere either, the owner didnt greet me, the other tech kept watching videos on her phone, and the place seemed kinda dark and a bit dated.Too bad, Ive had high hopes after reading these great reviews.

You can always set up an appointment the day before or even the day of, depending on their calendar which is easy to access online by inputing the services you are looking for. They do have a fee if you cancel, but if you cancel 4hrs prior to your appointment there is no charge. $68 for 55 min pedicure which included a great hot stone and hand massage from Angie and a gel nail French manicure. Portsmouth is an expensive town and rent isnt cheap so the pricing makes sense for the area and I was extremely happy with my experience. They stayed late to finish their services. I showed up on time to my appointment but took a while to choose colors and I changed my pedicure to the longer one and they did not rush my experience to leave on time they stayed past closing time!!
