I went in to get my wedding dress altered, and not only did I leave with a beautifully done gown, but also a friend. Maria is an amazing person and is amazing at what she does! She is also very accommodating as she even took me in on her day off because that was what worked with my schedule. She is very good at making connections and making you feel comfortable in your appointment. She cares about you as a person and doesn’t just see you as a “another clothing piece to fix.” If you have a dress you want to make sure is done right, Maria has got you. She does it right the first time too so you don’t have to keep coming back. Even though I wouldn’t have minded coming back again, she is such a sweet lady and very fun to work with! I almost want to buy a dress that doesn’t fit just to hang out with her again. My wedding dress was a bit complicated having 5 layers but she did such a great job! I was worried the bustle would look weird or too bulky, but Maria worked with it to make sure it was done right and holy cow is it beautiful. Maria knew exactly what to do to make sure it all looked beautiful and fit me perfectly! It was exactly what I wanted. She is very passionate and dedicated to her work and is definitely a seamstress you can trust. She takes her time working with you to make sure she understands your needs. I would recommend Maria ten times over to anyone!!

We had her alter prom dresses in the past and our experiences were fine. When it came to our daughters wedding dress the experience didnt go as well. We needed lace straps created and she did whatever she wanted and wouldnt change anything, wouldnt listen that the straps were not what we wanted. She played the bad mom card when m.o.b. spoke up to say the straps werent right. We felt bullied into accepting her work. She also charged more than we were expecting. Alterations in the hips area of dress resulted in weird puckers at bottom of zipper. She said thats just how it is.. We knew that wasnt correct so she did do some tacking but didnt totally fix the problem.We let her finish up then went on to a different seamstress that felt so bad for us as right away the new seamstress knew that the added straps didnt flow with the design of the dress or compliment the neckline. The new seamstress worked wonders and the straps she created look like they were original with the dress. We asked how much she would have charged for the alterations that were originally done, and we found out that we we paid about $300 more than the new seamstress would have charged.Maria spent so much time talking about how bad other seamstresses in the area were and how the local dress shops were selling ill-fitting dresses that she wasnt able to fix (she even showed us many pictures). All of this had nothing to do with our daughters dress.Overall we are considering this to be a live & learn experience.I thought long and hard if I should review or not. I decided I knew that if I had been looking online for a seamstress and was looking through reviews that I would be grateful to read about other peoples experiences.

Maria is amazing at what she does! I was so impressed with how my dress looked and felt. She has a knack for what will work with the style of dress and what will not. The BEST seamstress!! Maria has been altering my bridesmaid dresses since 2008 and now has altered my wedding dress. My dress is FLAWLESS. My dress has a beautiful train which needed altering and it is a PERFECT circle. Maria has altered (hemmed, added a bustle and bra cups, sized in, and realigned straps) and enhanced my wedding dress so it shapes my figure beautifully and gives me a gorgeous silhouette. You will not be disappointed with Maria! I had nine layers to my wedding dress, all of which were different lengths, needless to say my gown needed a lot of work. I left my first fitting a little nervous but when I came back to my second fitting, I was more than impressed with my dress. Maria is truly gifted at what she does! She helped show my Maid of Honor how to bustle my gown and she had many helpful tips and tricks for the big day. I will be recommending her to everyone I know.

Maria was very professional right from the start when I asked her if she would alter my wedding dress. Keep in mind, I called to schedule an appointment at the height of prom season and she was more than kind enough to take the time to get my information and schedule the first fitting. Like others have said, she has everyone wash their hands before touching the wedding gowns. She is very delicate and takes her time to make sure the dress fits the bride just right. My dress was more than a dress size too big and it fits like a glove after she altered it. She teaches you how to pose for photos, walk down the aisle with your father, and much more. She wants what is best for each bride. Highly recommend!

My daughter got all of her prom dresses hemmed by Maria!! She is very professional and does a great job!! Always has it done in a reasonable amount of time!! I also got my bridesmaid dress done too and turned out great!! I will be also going back to get my wedding dress altered very soon! I highly recommend her!!

Told me how I should pose with my dress to best feature it... how I should wear my hair to best compliment it and how I should walk or stand to make it look the best that it can! Maria is amazing! I needed to get my bridesmaid dress taken in and hemmed, and Maria did a perfect job!! After making an appointment, my initial consultaton was around 15 minutes and I picked up my dress about 2 weeks later. Maria even gave me tips on walking the aisle, along with different poses for pictures with and without a bouquet! Could not recommend Sew Special enough and will be taking any future alterations back to Sew Special.

She did a wonderful job on my wedding dress. I saved $100 dollars by going to her instead of Davids Bridal. The additions she made to my dress were amazing. My dress looks better than if I would have taken it to Davids Bridal. She made me and my mother feel very special. She does not like to be bothered on weekends or holidays.

My bustle looked amazing! However, after over $300 in services my dress still does not fit on the top. My wedding is 3 weeks away. When I asked Maria why it looks that way she told me its my problem for having the size breasts I do and for not having straps. Then she tried to force me to put ugly tiny straps on my dress and got legitimately MAD when I said no. I paid my $300+ bill and cried my eyes out in my car... never again.

I am having my wedding dress altered by Maria. I was nervous in the first place to have the responsibility of finding ANY professional seamstress for my wedding dress. Im writing this after only my first fitting and I definitely recommend Sew Special. No nonsense, all business and advice, and still had a fun fitting.Right from the start, she knew exactly how to handle the dress. She made us both wash our hands before doing anything, and told me that whomever will be working with me on the Day will have to do the same every time. That shows respect for my dress! She was able to evaluate the type of dress, fabric, and design immediately, and was able explain everything she was going to do before I even put it on. She explained how she would lace the dress up, sew in cups, make it comfortable for a day of dancing, an explanation for why a French bustle would work best, etc. She explained all of this before I put the dress on knowing that it would be harder for me to see everything she was talking about while in the dress.Once I had the dress on, we talked about a lot of things regarding the fit, as well as posture and shoe height. For one, I have ok posture to begin with, but she even noticed that, due to constant crossing of my legs at my desk at work and how I usually stand unevenly, that one of my shoulders is a fraction higher than the other. Like most people. I was amazed to realize that. She talked about how best to stand in order to look best in photos and correct the issue. She also talked a lot about the dress *in relation to* my body type, which I find very important. It wasnt just about the dress.Im due for my next fitting in about a month and I have zero worries about the appointment. She has had so much experience with how the dress WORKS for the your event and how youll view the garment AFTER the special event, too. Her place is professional, even though its in her own home. In her special fitting room, she has a whole door plastered with brides. Shes a pro.Thank you, Maria!

Ive been going to Sew Special for bridesmaid dress alterations for 3 years now and I wont go anywhere else! She does a great job and my dresses fit like a dream!

I wish I could leave Negative Stars!!!!! She was HORRIBLE and RUDE. I didnt even have my bridesmaid dress out of the garment bag before she told me she couldnt take it in... After I got the dress on, she started pinning and I mentioned I didnt really like how it looked.. she replied with Well then I cant do it.. she wouldnt even try anything else or give suggestions on making smaller changes. She also told me she couldnt take the bust area in. I have a small chest and always have to have that area taken in on bridesmaid dresses so I know she could do it!!! I told her It had to be taken in because the side was flopping over. She immediately took all the pins out and told me there was nothing she could do for me, I should have ordered a smaller size and threw the garment bag towards me as she walked out of the room. When I got dressed and walked out of the room she didnt even walk me out of her house. She stayed in a room and yelled Thanks for coming... DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS RUDE LADY!!!!

I had Maria alter my wedding gown. It was a gorgeous dress that came in nearly 2 sizes too big. She saved the day and made my dress fit like the princess gown it was supposed to be (it was Belle 2012 from Disney Princess collection). I felt like the pricing was spot on as she had to re-do extensive beading on the bodice, and she suggested adding a rather inexpensive hoop instead of hemming the dress. She helped train my personal attendant to lace up the corset correctly. The only drawback was that my bustle didnt hold throughout the entire night, but thats probably because I was doing some rigorous dancing! Maria also took the time to figure out what I wanted from my bridal look rather than just altering it to what she wanted (and I did a terrible job of explaining it, but she figured out what I meant)!

Called to ask if they would have time to do a bridesmaids dress alteration.. she didnt even let me finish and she interrupted and asked when it was. While I answered she interrupted again and said rudely that thats not enough time. I nicely said ok, do you have anyone you could refer me to? She said, No! Little things like that will make it so they will never get my business and every time someone brings up that business, I wont have anything good to say. Just too bad

Called to see if I could get the hems repaired on a couple of pairs of pants. She stated she was busy with prom. No problem. I told her that it wasnt an emergency and that it could wait so would it be okay if I checked with her after prom. She straight out just said no that she was too booked up with weddings. I got the impression that she did not want to do little things like repairing the hem on a couple of pairs of pants just bigger things like wedding gowns and such.

I was disappointed when I sent pictures and she negatively commented on my dress and what she could not fix about it. I was not expecting such a poor experience based on other reviews.

I was refered to Sew Special by wedding elegance after I experienced a huge time consuming  disaster with another alterations place. So I was 2 weeks out from my destionation wedding date with a non altered dress and hoping someone could help me. In steps Maria...My desperate plea over the phone took me to her home/place of business. She answered the door with a smile and awesome energy. She took me into the changing room and had me put on my dress. While it was on, we discussed what I was looking to do and how to work it to falter my figure. She gave me some suggestions that would help me look awesome in my dress and had me set up my fitting appointment.She told me my dress would be done next Wednesday. I brought it to her on a Friday. I was floored she would have it done so fast after my other alterations person could not get done with 3 extra weeks on top of the month they said it would take. She told to not worry and that everything was going to be just fine. As I left I felt all of my dress stress melt away knowing it was finally in good hands.Wednesday came and I went to try on my dress. It looked awesome and was done on time. She showed me how to tie my corcet and gave me some tips to look good as a bride for pictures ect. Very helpful for someone like me who has never done anything like this before. I even asked her to attach a sash I had brought and she did it with no problem while I changed into my clothes. Maria was very professional and helpful with everything. Plus she saved me from a ruined wedding because the other place would have never finished my dress or even had done it right. I would recommend her to anyone that needs alterations done and I will not go any where else for them.
