I have lived in this area for many many years now, but I have never been able to find a place to take my car for consistently reliable and affordable service. Until now! These guys are absolutely amazing! First of all, I have some very serious medical problems that make it impossible for me to leave my home. This place is so kind and helpful to me. They come here and get my car and return it here when the work is done. If that was the only thing they did that would be reason enough for me to give them 5+ stars! But there are so many other reasons. They do really excellent and affordable work on my car, and keep it safe and reliable whenever I am able to drive it, which sometimes is not very often. They are extremely friendly and professional, and I know that I can always trust them. After 30 years of living in the Alexandria area, I have finally found the place for my car! Highly recommended! Five stars all the way!!

The work Ive had done in the past has been great, but recently Ive been entirely unsuccessful in getting an appointment. I submitted 4 online appointment requests in July and never once received an email or call to schedule apart from the generic weve received your request automatically generated response email. 2 of those times I was logged into my customer account as well. I know I simply need to follow up on the phone, but what good is an online system if it doesnt work?

If you need a mechanic shop in Arlington, this is the place. Not only did they give me the best price for the work I needed done, they include detailed inspections and pictures of the vehicle while its being serviced, as well as recommended work that you might need to do in the future. But more importantly than being reasonably priced, the staff was incredibly nice, welcoming, and kind. A special shout out to Eddie who helped me with my vehicle, my one experience alone is going to be bringing me back anytime I need work done on any of my vehicles. Plus, they even dropped me off at my home after I dropped the car off in the morning! Ive never seen a auto shop offer service like that! Amazing!

Please dont take your car here. There are a bunch of car shops with horrible business models that take advantage of their clients but have great reviews on google, and this is one of them.I had some engine work done in the past and they charged me an arm and a leg. I took it to get an oil change awhile after and they found loose components just sitting on top of the engine. They try to upsell you on everything such as brake fluid, cabin filters, spark plugs, ect.Save yourself the trouble and take the time to find a real, trusted shop via a friend or coworker before sending your car here.

I brought my truck in prior to a summer vacation road trip for a 4th July special which included oil change, filter change, alignment, tire rotation, fluids check. They charged me over $200 yet told me nothing needed to be done - oil was fine, alignment was fine, etc. Half way through my trip (~1000 mi) my maintenance required light came on. On my return I bought my truck back in and they said it is was just an egg-timer light. IT SHOULD HAVE BE RESET during the initial service. It wasnt. They changed my oil and charged me another $100. They should have changed my oil for free since they should have changed the oil on my initial service AND for the inconvenience of having to bring the truck in a second time in less than 3 weeks for an egg timer alert they failed to reset. NOT PLEASED.

I had my Jeep for death wobble in two different repair shop and they couldn’t fix it. I went on the web and found Ben Skyline Automotive and read their reputation and many many people liked their honesty and great repair work. I took my Jeep there and Ms. Tracy was the most professional and helpful, she took me to the mechanic and explain what the problem was, the mechanic was also knowledgeable, honest and helpful. They fixed my Jeep Death Wobble and they also found a few problems and pointed to me that must be fixed. I took the car for test drive and sure enough no more Death Wobble. I am going back there to fixed the other three problems with my Jeep. I love the way they treat their customer, from the beginning James, Tracy and Charlie ( I believe the mechanic name is Charlie) were nice, honest and straight to the point. I am so glad I found Ben Nielsen’s shop, I definitely recommend any one in Grater Washington are who truly needs a great Auto repair shop to go this shop. I went on family trip to Virgnia last month and on the very last day, my car broke and needed a diagnostic. Fighting against time, I was worried if I and family would be stuck in waiting mode. Seeing that Ben Nielsens Skyline Automative is near, I had it towed to the shop and after drop-off, Eddy was able to get my car checked-in and diagnosed on the same day. He was also very helpful in getting me quotes and updates as well as realistic timeline, that helped me in deciding the way action plan as we couldnt stay in Virginia much longer than planned.

They went above and beyond! I recently moved to Florida, so before my drive there, I had them do a full check of my car. After my 2-day drive from VA, I was having issues with my coolant. Pat researched repair shops in my area to take my car to get checked out and recommended a shop. Luckily, everything checked out fine. Pat followed up with me through the whole process and even reimbursed me for the charges to get my car checked out here. I hope I’m lucky enough to find a repair shop as great as this here in Miami.

Although they were unable to work on my particular vehicle, I was very pleased with my experience here. Employees were all friendly and courteous, and they waived the diagnostic fee since they could not proceed. If I had another vehicle, I would definitely return here.

I have had great honest service from this team. I use them regularly. I had a problem with my engine and the mechanic discovered that it might be a warranty issue, so told me to take to the dealer. He was right! Full enginge replacement under warranty. That is integrity that is hard to find! Highly recommend!

Ive been using Skyline Automotive for about four years for my antique cars and for my no-longer-owned 1997 Buick. They have been extremely professional and thorough with all the car maintenance and repairs. In the last week they installed a set of tires on two of the antiques, picked me up/dropped me off, and even assisted me when I had difficulty with an air compressor tank for a flat on one of them.Particular shout-out to Pat, Greg and Rakan, all of whom (and I know there are others whose names I dont know) have been so courteous and fantastic to work with. I highly recommend!

In general these folks were wonderful especially Eddie and his lead mechanic who went over my car. They were also good enough to taxi me back an forth to the nearest metro station (Ballston) which sadly is not exactly close for anyone who is looking to hoof it. I would have given them 5 stars but Im docking a star because they couldnt be bothered to clean off my wheels (lots of white residue that had dried up -- all it would have taken is a wipe-down) after they installed them at a cost of $158. You would think they would have done so since I just bought a fresh set and Im a first time customer. In my view if you do some work and you charge for it then you should be obliged to finish it/clean up the mess. With all the competition out there details count: It left me feeling slightly unappreciated... but it wasnt the end of the world.Alas, I live in an apartment building and its not easy for me to clean my own car. I made do with a dirty bucket of water at a nearby gas station -- it was better than nothing. I also didnt get the report on work that I had chosen to defer as promised but they told me that I should get it once Eddie returns from vacation: I was also hoping for pictures of the hairline crack in my bushings so I could have a better sense of what is going on... information is power

I have been using Skyline Automotive for a number of years now and I am always impressed by the professional, no-nonsense way they handle me and all other customers. Pat, in particular, is very straightforward—passing along only the relevant facts, what truly needs to be done (vs. what other shops might con you into doing), and how much it is likely to cost and *why.* My repair jobs have usually come in a little bit under expectations and, on several occasions, the folks at Skyline have saved me hundreds to thousands of dollars by giving me the most truthful analysis and action plan. Our geriatric vehicles are still going strong thanks to the excellent work of everyone at Skyline Automotive. I have never been steered wrong here and I am confident you won’t, either.

They take care of pretty much everything, and the pick up and delivery option saves my warehouse manager hours. Highly recommended.

Long time (15 years) customer. Every time I visit Ben’s shop I’m more and more impressed. Whether I’m spending a lot or when I’m not able to spend the amount needed, they answered any and all questions (politely, cause I talk a lot) and make you feel at ease. They WILL take care of you. I had been to several mechanics before Skyline, and each one of them certainly told me I had to replace parts that didnt actually need replacing. The boys at Nielson were not only really nice and professional, but they were honest and fair with my car.I went in for an ambiguous noise in the rear (sounded like shocks needed replacing, but we had just replaced them), and the boys at Nielson tightened a few bolts in the back, charged me for one hour of labor, and the noise is gone! Will certainly come back for other repairs and maintenance. Thank you so much!!

Took my car somewhere else I have gone to for years but after arranging for someone to follow me to bring me home I was told they couldnt provide something needed and was advised to go to my dealership. I was trying to avoid my dealership due to the expense and long drive. I got a coupon in the mail from Skyline Automotive and decided to take a chance since I could get shuttled to and from home. Great customer service, car was done quicker than what 2 other places said, very impressed with texts tracking work being done and digital pictures. Price was lower than 3 other estimates; I will definitely use Skyline Automotive again! Great find!

I had a service station (note; only go to service stations for gas, not repairs) for an alternator.In short, they created another problem which caused my truck to breakdown. Since I’ve used Nielsen’s before, I decided to send it to them.They called me within 2 hours to tell me that the problem was a burned out fusible link.They repaired it and I picked up my truck the next day. Zero issues.If you need your vehicle repaired, I don’t know if there’s a better shop in the area.

It have been important to me to feel as though my dad is working on my car. Ben Neilsen’s Skyline Automotive has been like that for me. They tell me what is needed now and what is a good idea to do preemptively to prevent issues in the future. I needed my car for the weekend to get away with my family and they were able to make that happen in the time frame quoted. I’ll never do business with the dealership again after working with this shop.

We opted to have Nielsens do significant work on our 2007 CRV instead of buying new, and they made our old car feel like brand new! Highly recommended! UPDATE: After further experience with this repair shop, they are not recommended.

Bought an older used car with some quirky issues - Ben and his team are great to work with and really took the time to talk with me and help me figure out an overall strategy that works for my budget and plans for the car. Awesome shop.

I have mixed feelings. Several years ago they told me a wheel was falling off, which a second opinion disagreed with, and was right. Recently though theyve been fine, not pushy on sales and giving the most extensive readout Ive ever seen as part of an oil change. But the real big thing right now is, theyre busy. Super busy. Go find a gas station for your minor inspections and oil changes.

After years of hearing how great this place was I finally experienced it for myself. Scheduling an appointment was easy and honest, their process of showing you what their inspection found and the suggested work was great and as detailed as you wanted or needed. In my case they understood I had an older car and only wanted to do required work to keep it safe. Their customer service could not have been better. A great experience.

This is a very up to date auto service store. Everything is explained almost in real time after you leave your car....text messages with photos and clear explanations of why the work needs to be done. They provide transportation to and from your house with drivers who are interesting...added bonus. Nick at the front desk even remembered my name from MONTHS ago.

Honestly I was so worried about the price but once it was explained to me, I realize I am just cheap. They are excellent and very honest people. They literally give you a breakdown and check every component of your vehicle. According to my dad, we now have a family mechanic which is reasonable and does great work!

OUTSTANDING!Recently needed a bit of work done on my corvette. I dont trust just anyone with my vehicle and due to ground clearance issues, its difficult to find a non-dealership shop to work on it, but the guys at Skyline demonstrated that they both cared about my vehicle, and understood the complications involved with working on it. They were able to find a solution that enabled them to safely and efficiently work on the vehicle.In the office, I met with Dion, who was able to work me in even though they clearly had a lot of work going on. I then met Ryan, the mechanic, who took great care of my vehicle and fixed the issue effectively and efficiently. Through talking to him, it was evident that he both loves cars and takes pride in the work that he performs on them.The customer service, environment, pricing, and quality of work at Skyline is phenomenal. If youre looking for these things in a shop, come here. You wont regret it.

For almost 20 years, Skyline has serviced three different cars for me. I have always been more than satisfied with the quality and value of their product and would not hesitate to recommend their services.

We had a great experience. They are knowledgeable, professional, and they take the time to explain things in detail. They come across as very honest. They did the work quickly and without delays relative to the original schedule.

I had a bad experience with the dealership and switched to using Ben Nielsens. One Saturday, I went in with no appointment with a check engine light flashing and car bouncing. It was quickly diagnosed, explained to me in an easy to follow way, and repairs were able to be done the same day. The guys there have been super helpful and I felt very well taken care of, with no worry that my repair list was getting inflated. Each time I go back, they take care to help me understand whats going on with my car and make helpful recommendations. Ill be using them for every car I ever buy.

Brought my vehicle in for new spark plugs as I could feel a misfire though no check engine light was on. I made an appointment and came in. Waited for an hour and a half thinking they were changing plugs when service advisor Nick returned with a $900 estimate for repairs. I was with my young child and we were both exhausted from being there so long. I think thats why they felt comfortable doing this. The repairs were simply for new plugs and a fuel cleaning. The cars mileage was not high enough for this service, either. I ordered the repairs since I just wanted to get myself and child out of there and have my car in good health. Afterward, I called my father who is a mechanic out of state and spoke with the owner of a nearby shop- both opined that I had been ripped off. The labor for these services is almost 3 times higher than average. They ended up keeping my car for nearly 3 days...and I went in for spark plugs.This is following my going in last month for an oil change and left with a $2500 bill for misc services. Its obvious I was taken advantage of. Will not return.

This is the second time I have had them do work for me and they are amazing. I am about 20 miles away from them and have to pass many other mechanics to get to them but to me it is well worth it.

Way too expensive for the work that was done. Paid $1515 to have my rear driver door and power window fixed. Originally, was estimated to cost $1600 and for another $1300 I would have my oil changed, wheel alignment, fuel injection flush, brake fluid flush, power steering flush, etc.. So they wanted $2900 from me. Things that I would not need as I had only about two thousand miles ago had my vehicle serviced at a BMW dealership in Maryland. After I refused to have to those additional services, I pick up my vehicle to find my service engine soon light on when it wasnt on when I turned it in. Come on, really. Never going there again. Agree with other previous posts, too costly. Luckily, I know how to reset my service lights on my own.

I have been going here for four or five years,and I continue to come because I find it an honest place that I trust to work on my car and my van. Theyre not the cheapest, but you know the work is done properly, and they know what they are doing. They are not going to take you for a ride by cheating you, as unfortunately some auto mechanic shops will do these days. There is a small waiting area, and they are pretty good with keeping you abreast of when your car will be ready, and if there are any changes in estimated costs. They will email your estimate and it will have photos of your car and the things that they are doing to it. I have worked with the customer service representative named Nick, and hes been great. They will continue to get my business.

I have not gone to one other shop that offers the kind of detailed electronic documentation, including actual photos of your vehicle, that Ben Nielson provides when they service my vehicles. They may sometimes cost a little more than some other shops but, as I have learned the hard way too many times, they are worth it. The staff has always been friendly to me and I have found Nick, Dion, and Pat to be honest and helpful. The shuttle to work is also very convenient.

Exemplary service from start to finish beginning w having my car picked up and delivered without me having to leave my house.Next came appropriate phone calls and text messages updating me on the progress,including pictures and complete description of what was found.They evaluated my entire car,not just the issue I was concerned with.This allowed me to know exactly what was done and have the language to describe and understand it as well. They sent someone right over who charged my battery and the gentleman would not take any money.

Everyones super nice, they provided detailed photos of the issue with my car. My rating is because they said my muffler needed to be replaced and would cost $700 to fix. I was almost going to get the work done, but a friend said it sounded high. I asked for the detailed quote. Theyre charging almost $400 for a muffler that I could buy for under $200. I declined to get the work done and too my car elsewhere. I was able to get the muffler repaired for under $200 dollars. All the niceness in the world isnt worth $500 to me.

I continue to give the Technicians and Staff at Ben Nielsens Skyline Automotive my highest rating and my continued business. On 15 March 2021, I dropped off my 2011 Ford F-150 pickup truck at 8a, for an oil change, annual safety inspection, and to investigate noise from the front end. I was provided a free courtesy ride home. After the initial inspection of my truck, I received (as normal) text and email messages providing a color-coded report (green, yellow, red) with photographs showing the current maintenance status of my truck. I was soon called to discuss the noise problem. Based on years of quality and trusted service with Ben Nielsens Skyline Automotive, I approved their recommendation to repair the noise problem. At 3:15p, they called and told me my truck was ready. I had no way to get back to the garage, so they ordered a Lift to pick me up. All services met and the truck drives quiet. I continue to be a loyal customer. I recommend Ben Nielsens Skyline Automotive.

Ben, Nick, and the rest of the staff seem committed to keeping customers for the long term. In the absence of doing a lot of independent research and comparison, a lot of us getting their car repaired just have to trust that what a shop is telling them is honest. I’ve gotten that at Ben’s Skyline. They also do a great job of identifying issues that may not require immediate attention so that near term repairs and expenses can be planned for. It also has the secondary effect of not making it seem like they are out to empty your wallet and would like to see your car have the longest life it can. I trust these guys, their judgment and their work.

I found Skyline Automotive through Angies List after my 2008 Nissan Rogue failed the VA State Inspection provided by the Nissan dealer. Nissan had looked at the car 500 miles prior and found no problems, yet now they said I needed close to $3,000 of work, and about half of that was necessary to pass inspection. They wanted $60 to replace the tag lights alone! I knew there must be a better option.Pat at Skyline promptly returned an email request and we set an appointment for them to see if the work specified by the dealer was needed - it was and Skyline provided photos and an electronic file that showed what needed to be done. They did all the work necessary to pass inspection, plus the other matters that the dealer had recommended, at more than 30% less than the dealer. They also provided shuttle service to and from my home.I was kept informed of the process from start to finish. They were not the cheapest option, but significantly less than the dealer, and inspired more confidence in what they were doing. I would use them again and recommend their services.

Had my jeep wrangler jk repaired and now it is riding like a Cadillac. The ride is much smoother and it shifts through gears much easier. Had new tires, new shocks, new brake lines, and it is riding better than when I got it brand new. Very thorough and honest. Thanks!

Knowledgeable staff, efficient admin. They will email status updates that include photos of the vehicle, and parts being worked on. Very helpful to see an image when you are not necessarily familiar with the automotive terminology.

Th work, on the air conditioning, was done in the time it had been promised, and at a fair price. I had similar experience with them before- so Ill be going back!

Feels good when you find an auto shop you can trust. They provide a thorough check up with pictures and descriptions of everything they find, minimizing any sense of scamming. Their customer service over the phone and in person was excellent as well.
