I live in Coldfoot with a GCI tower. Verizon and T-Mobile can also use data roaming and have phone service. Even though its a GCI tower, they charge $75 a month for 2G. The price goes up from there. I now have 12G for $90. One guy in camp is paying $140 a month for a higher amount. It is a major scam. The Verizon people are thrilled. They have all the data they want and pay a reasonable price. Id switch if I wasnt leaving in 6 weeks.
We had this unlimited internet service for approximately 36 months. During this time, the internet was often times in and out and not very reliable.To make matters even worse, when we called to cancel service because we are moving to the lower 48, we have to pay for 21 days of service that we will not be here. They do not prorate when you cancel serviceIm sure it is in the fine print.......
I used to love having your service for internet, but after the technical difficulties your company was having with the slower level of service, slowed speeds, my internet is not the same anymore after you fixed the state wide problem. I used to have no issues after running out of data and everything still worked at the slowed speeds, now nothing works. I have contacted you already and nothing fixes the issue. It seems like you guys slowed the speeds even more. 175.00 is to much for unlimited internet. The first 2 months I used under 400gb, then every month after that I used more and more, to the point that now I use 400gb in 1 week. But the funny thing is I didnt change anything at home. So how is that possible? How can I go from using 400 in 1 month, to 400 in 1 week, and still use the same devices, the same amount of time.
If you gotten a couple hours to waste For customer service, this is the place for you! Don’t trust local guide reviews. This company is a waste of your life, maybe they could hire a few more employees, but they’re probably too cheap
Great Internet -- Terrible storeImagine the DMV, you throw your name into a long queue of people and sit around watching a family of five shop for phones while you just need to drop off a router and could be helped in less than 60 seconds. GCI is feeling the staffing shortage so dont expect a stop here to be a quick errand. Still the best internet provider in the area based on price.
Getting really tired of paying about $200 monthly for service that is NICE when it actually works...but goes out almost everyday recently, anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. We have a newer router, we reset it, weve done all the steps to no avail. And its not just us. We live on Eielson AFB and almost EVERYONE in our area has the same issues. Sad to be leaving Alaska soon, but at least well have a company with a more consistent internet connection. I do not recommend GCI.
This has to be the worst internet service ever.I constantly have issues with my internet not working. We have upgraded being told this would make things better. We have got a new modem being told this would make things better. We pay over $100 a month for internet that rarely works and it’s super frustrating.
THE PEOPLE ON THE PHONE DO NOT LISTEN TO WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR AND JUST DIRECT YOU TO A RANDOM PERSON IN A DIFFERENT AREA, RATHER THAN PAYING ATTENTION. JUST SPENT 45 MINUTES BEING BOUNCED AROUND AND STILL DIDNT GET THE CORRECT PLACE I NEEDED. ALL I WAS DOING WAS TRYING TO PURCHASE A NEW PHONE. I GUESS THEY DONT WANT TO SELL ANYTHING.

Absolutely terrible internet. pay nearly $200 a month for internet that will work once a week. If youre looking for internet. do not pick gci. 10/10 would NOT recommend.
The store itself is fine. Never had any real issues. The over the phone customer service is awful. They have never gotten back with me even when stating they would, and the wait times are always horrendous.Unfortunately where I live the internet quality GCI provides is excellent and they are the best option in many of the populated areas of Alaska.
Professional, competent, and comfortable. I was greeting at the door by Jack, who immediately identified my issue and quickly resolved it. Jack was friendly at all times and was not uncomfortably pushy with promotions. Jack was knowledgeable about everything I needed and did not waste a single second thinking. I went in at 1750, there were no other customers but there were a dozen staff members.
The lady that helped me was super polite and helpful. got my new device up and running with little wait time.
Expensive, got and priced the same over at Walmart half the price. Wanted to get tie die for the kids. 44 at joanns 22 at Walmart big difference

If I could rate this lower I would. The internet is fine when it isnt having an outage, its more often disconnected than it is connected! Not worth the money, not worth the God awful phone waiting times for tech support when they even answer. I understand its Alaska and hardly anything goes positively, but they could at the very least have the internet working longer than 12 hrs or have after hours tech support to start gathering needed complaints about an outage.
Incredibly poor customer service. Ive had to make multiple return trips to the store (30+ minutes away) due to being given the wrong equipment items (wrong power cord, inoperable remote, etc). and I have spent almost 3 hours (right at 2 hours 40 minutes now) attempting to get a technician to assist via the chat option. Incredibly frustrating to see GCI go the way of Comcast and the other big wireless companies.
Convenient location. Reliably fast and courteous. If you like their mobile service, youll like this store too.

One star because I can’t give 0. I moved away from Alaska over 3 months ago and am still being billed. This is after turning in my box in June 2020.I spoke to a human being at this store before I left Alaska when I turned in my box; she assured me my last payment was that month. When I received another payment notice, I called and sent the service department an email explaining my issue.I just got a “non-payment” letter to my new address in Colorado.Oh, and they jack up rates. There’s that too.

Very long time to wait for a customer service representative.... lifeline service is very good and very very confusing with all of the rules and regulations of bringing your own phone and phone number to get lifeline service.
Absolutly abysmal company... Pay almost $200 a month for 1gig internet, and this is the results I get... And they dont even have 24/7 customer support. This company is trash. I guess they can do that, considering theyre the only company in Fairbanks. Not only that, Ive been a customer for them for almost 2 years now, and they wont even give me the common courtesy of providing an answer.

This is the worst WiFi I’ve ever seen. So unreliable and god awful. It goes down every other day and the prices for each package are just insane. Do not recommend anyone use GCI because if you’re looking for speed, this is not the place to come. I had better WiFi in Iraq than I did with this place.

I was greeted emidiatley as I walked through the door since there was no line I was directed to a customer service rep she was very helpful and strait forward she answered every question emidiatley and with ease in the end I walked out happy witch is more than I can say about other places Ive been around town.

Hey GCI. Have you told the public that you dont proragte bills anymore? I paid my bill and when I needed to turn in my equipment, I was billed for another month well into December even though I turned in my equipment around November 17th. They told me that you were tryinbg to Simplify your billing. The only thing that does is cheat your customers. If I ever need these services again in Alaska, it wont be from GCI unless you decide to reimburse me for the money thats owed me.
Paying 175 dollars a month to pull 0.13 MBPS if I’m lucky and it works

We needed internet moved from one cabin on our property to the other, and they sent us George. He was super good! Great service, quick, left things clean and tidy, and answered questions I had.I Recommend!
Friendly, quiet, and helpful. They will definitely help you with all of your questions. Always seem to be very kind and patient. Sometimes you have to wait a while to be seen but its not that big of a deal. They have nice chairs and a table for you to sit at to keep busy otherwise.
I wouldve gave zero stars because Ive been waiting on the call line for over half an hour but damn that call line music is catchy and pleasing. 5 stars! Will call again.
Did not have the phone that I wanted and price for unlocked Androids were much higher than the same phones at Walmart.

Probably the worst customer service i’ve ever experienced. I called 3 times and each time I hung up after 6 hours of being on hold. Worse if you call in the morning lol. I’d advise using literally ANY other service or just go without... cause if you need to get in contact with them it won’t happen.

The folks behind the counter are always smiling and greetings you as you come in. When your name is called you may be there for 1 reason but think of another & the employees will continue on with you until you have everything you need or have answered all your questions. Even with my app for service the gentleman helping me did some extra research to try and find anything else that I could qualify under. He wasnt giving up.

Finally, Mike answers and when I told him about my internet problem, he put me on hold for another 12 mins till Jamelle answered. He told me my internet had been working perfectly for 18 days in a row. Wow. 47 mins and still no satisfaction.
Great price. GCI has great customer service and support. If you have an issue like a down tree on your line, etc. They will come out and fix it, even in 4 ft of snow! Great Job! Very impressed.
Saw someone walk to the wrong door and then leave because it was locked, They have good hours and competent staff at this store. Just the entry is a bit confusing I guess.

Busy store so it is nice they have the sign in system and call your name. I did a cancellation and paid my last bill in full. I was told it would be the last payment but then received a bill for $30 more in the mail so that was a little frustrating. Besides that friendly staff and clean lobby.
Always been courteous and helpful. Only thing left would be to have more phone cases in stock for newer phones instead of only $50 ones.

Do NOT get this service I repeat DO NOT . They dont give refunds for their very SLOW service even with proof . I purchased the gci mobile service and a phone, and when I came outside to form load a few apps and use the web browser they BOTH took forever to download. I went back in the store to maybe troubleshoot just in case the phone was defective and they couldnt find a problem. I kept trying to tell the woman that the service was the problem and she even took out her phone to show me that it wasnt . She even went to the app store on her I phone and the app took even longer to download on her I phone, she then agreed that it was the very slow service and still refused to give me a refund . The service is so horrible that I wouldve paid extra for a better carrier, theres a Verizon around the corner just go there and pay the $10.00 more, youll regret getting gci immediately like I did . Also, the wait times are VERY long to get in and on the phone, they still didnt call me back about sending a technician to my home because the Router / modem they gave me did NOT work . Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else that values their customers and give better customer service. I just moved here 3 days ago and people around Fairbanks told me to NOT get gci and I shouldve listened but I wanted to give them a chance and not prejudge them . BOY was a wrong DONT let these people con you.
I do not appreciate having to wear a mask because of Covid-19, if it wasnt necessary I woulf opt not to shop at this store because it requires a mask. Unfortunately our internet is down so I have to go in to the store to exchange our modem. I am not a high risk individual and I dont have the virus. The mask is unnecessary and has proven not to prevent Covid-19.

Courteous and prompt service. Every question that I had was answered professionally. So far my experience with GCI as a whole has been amazing! I have yet to have any service outages or issues with billing but I can only hope they would handle that as well as everything else so far.

When I was looking for a new house, my first and only priority was internet. I show in the coverage map for GCI and so I signed a lease. Then, they tell me that they dont service my location, leaving me trapped without internet for a year. Their attitude towards this was oh well

I pay for the second biggest packages under unlimited which is 99.99. Which is an INSANE amount for internet in the first place but for not even that high of speed nor unlimited it frustrates me so much. Our prior state was 44.99 for unlimited highest speed. It was in a rural area as well. Gci if you cared for your customers you wouldn’t be robbing us for our simple internet!
Good customer service and a decent selection of phones. In general you should expect a wait for almost anything besides paying a bill. Oftentimes new people are being trained from this store, which can add to wait times and how long it takes to get new phones and contracts done. If they dont have the phone you want its worth seeing if you can get one sent up from Anchorage. It usually only takes a day or two.

Terrible, horrible costumer service. These guys sold me a broken phone and refused to switch it out. They actually accused me of lying to them about it. I had no reason to lie, I actually want the same phone. Take your business somewhere else is my suggestion.Now I got to live with a broken several hundred dollar phone. It would have been cheaper to go to another company than go to these guys. Im probably going to switch companies as soon as I can. Ive never felt with such terrible costumer service.

Worst customer service ever! On hold for 20 min, then the woman was rude and unwilling to help me and sarcastic and hung up on me. 35 minutes on the phone and nothing accomplished. Every time something is needed it’s at least a 30 min wait phone call. They desperately need to hire more people and train them better.
Internet net was fine but the money was suppose to come out automatically and didn’t for 3 months and was never sent anything in the mail or called about it. Didn’t think anything of it because I didn’t watch for that in the account because I shouldn’t have to. I get that it still my responsibility to watch for that but they should have at least sent me something in the mail or emailed me.I got a 300 dollar bill to pay and was very pissed off. Canceled it and went with AT&T. They also charged me a fee for going through customer service to pay the bill. If I could add less stars... I would.

I have had GCI from the very beginning and I couldnt be happier with their services. I have cable, cell phones, and a land line and these are constantly be upgraded, often at a savings for me. Their customer support and tech support cant be beat. Tech support is 24 hours a day and the techs are top notch and free. Truth is they really have no competition.

The internet we received was subpar for what we were paying for. If Alaska Communications was able to be installed in our unit we would have used their services. After having left our duty station in Alaska, and closing our account, we have just received a letter 6 months later about a debt that they have been trying to collect. We don’t feel listened to as a customers and would not recommend GCI as a first choice for internet.

Had working internet for one day. After that one day, the modem stopped working and the customer service technician said no one would be able to come out and service the equipment for three days. Pretty much paid for a table decoration.

Really no Stars!!! This place charges a bunch of money and some kinda why every military person I speak to complains about data being used up so quick without even watching tv for more than two hours. And then you add more data but that doesn’t rollover. I had lower prices for unlimited data and faster internet in Germany and the Euro is more than is currency. I would never purchase GCI again.
