They cancelled my son’s appointment the day-of, and had no same-day alternatives available unless we were willing to pull him out of school. After explaining we really needed the cut today, the response was a verbal “shoulder shrug” and they told us to go to SportsClips. Coming from someone in another service industry, having a shortlist of barbers they could text to see if anyone’s around to cover a few cuts seems like an easy fix, but if they’d rather their customers go to SportsClips, then so be it.Edit in Reply to Owner’s Response: Thats a similar circle to what we were told this morning. Again, no one is suggesting people work while sick, or be denied time-off and compelled to work. Literally no one, at any point in this conversation, has ever suggested that. What is being suggested is the common service industry practice of seeing whether anyone can cover. If Rock’s uses an employee (rather than independent contractor) model, that’s fine, and options for *voluntary* last-minute coverage can come from those two pools in that order. If coverage still cannot be found, then all options have been exhausted and at least the customer can be informed of that. But just handwaving the customer away was not helpful. In any event, it is what it is. Thanks.

I can’t say enough about this place. My husband and I have been coming here for years now. We’ve never been disappointed. I got a sharp haircut from Elaine and had a very easy experience to boot. She was kind and honest, and I felt completely comfortable with her decisions about my hair. I typically have only a vague sense of what I’m looking for in a haircut, and she seemed to totally understand and roll with it. A great place for trans, non-binary, and transmasc people. Atmosphere is not hyper-masculine or sports themed. Bonus is the complimentary adult beverage of your choice. I go on the weekends to avoid paying for parking.

I am so very happy to have found Rocks. We live in a small town west of Durham. My teenage son had several awful experiences trying to get haircuts in town he wanted in the past few years. I found Rocks through a Google search for cool, young place for teen boys to get a haircut and that is what we found. The lovely person I spoke with on the phone was very helpful matching us up with what son needed in Master Stylist, Powell. He met with son for consultation and he treated him with respect. Asked what he wanted, showed him what he would do to get there. We were very impressed when he didnt even blink when son told him what he wanted. Never had that happen before! Appointment was next day and Powell delivered, giving my teen son the haircut he wanted. I cant say enough good things about this place. Well worth the drive to Durham.

Great barbershop, they have a really good atmosphere, and the employees are friendly. If you get there early they have a pool table and a bar inside so you can grab a drink while you wait. Claudia is who I see for all my haircuts and she is great, she has been cutting my hair for years and I would recommend her to anyone.

Best place for a hair cut I’ve been to since living in Tokyo. A side note to anyone who’s curious about hour of operation, they’re open 8-6 weekends, 8-8 on weekdays. Just for the few reviewers who couldn’t read the website, google, the app, Yelp, the entrance, it’s pretty visible :)

While the bar wasnt open due to covid, my barber/stylist made the visit very comfy and we actually shared common travel location stories. Faith (I think - Im horrible with names) was an expert barber as well. Clean, sanitary, skilled, and above all personable. Id recommend, anytime.

Beer options are great. Be sure to get your free 8 oz pour with your haircut and ask for Kisa for the best haircut. Its definitely a huge leap above in the barber shop experience. I followed Kisa from another shop and this place is the best place to get your hair cut.

Lexus takes her time and consistently does a great job with my hair. Ive tried Pedro williams, Dennis Best, and other random shops throughout the area but have stayed with Rocks since I tried it out.

We walked-in for our best man, bride (short hair), and groom haircuts the day before our wedding.Great lofty open space with wood that glows warmly in the natural light... Very comfortable for a barber shop with a delicious selection at their bar in the back. Bright, entertaining atmosphere and staff who definitely enjoy their work. Their blend of classic and modern style was a great compliment for our wedding cuts.Go sometime! Well certainly be back for a visit the next time we are in Durham!

I’ve been coming to Rock’s for about two years (despite living about 25 minutes away). Never disappointed. The barbers and staff have always been great, and my cut has always been great. If you want a stylist that actually listens to what you want before they start buzzing, this is your place. Complimentary clean ups also means you can make a good style last.

Not a very friendly staff. The lady at the front desk had a cold attitude. Got a haircut from one of the master stylists. He doesn’t talk much. I understand that some stylists like to focus on their work, but when a customer asks for some suggestions, it wouldn’t harm to talk then.

Never open. I went down there four days in a row and they were closed during the hours they claim to be open.

The food is simply outstanding! We come here every while at Myrtle Beach. Love it love it.

I love going to get my hair cut here. Its a fair price ($30 for a haircut) and every time I go its a different stylist/barber but they each do a great job. After a few years of going here Ive never gotten a haircut Ive been unhappy with. Theyve done a surprisingly great job of adding in a bar with a great beer selection, and a bunch of great mens grooming products that make great gifts.They also do straight razor shaves and beard grooming, I havent tried these yet but I hope to soon.

If youre interested in drinking some beer, this is a nice place. If youre interested in getting your haircut in a reasonable amount of time, this is not the place. Ive dropped in at 3 different times in the past week and the shortest wait time was an hour (8:02 AM on a weekday), the longest over 2.5 hours (Saturday 2:30 PM), and the 3rd time they had already stopped taking customers at 5:45 PM (so at least a 1.25 hour wait). For a business built on walk-ins, its not actually very accessible to walking in apparently unless you have hours of time to kill. They do a great job if you can actually get seated though.

Ive gone to Jennifer a few times and love the way my hair looks everytime. Shes a top-notch professional! The place also gives you beer and massage chairs while you wait (at least for the upstairs stylists). I highly recommend!

A great barber shop with a bar in the back that has enough selection to justify a visit between haircuts. Rocks is rarely not busy, so appointments are highly recommended. I would not go without one. Although priced significantly higher than other local barber shops, the product is also much better, in this reviewers experience. Upstairs, appointments with a master stylist come with a beer, and again, the product received justifies the price jump.

This place is great. The environment is very chill, as are all the staff I interacted with.More importantly the hair cut I got was spot on. Lindsay cut my hair, and it was one of the most effortless and relaxing cuts Ive ever received. I was getting a lot chopped off (it was past my shoulders when I went in) to a more formal, short cut. She not only got the style perfect from just a verbal description but was also done within about 20 minutes. In my mind, this is the best experience you can have at a barber.

Great place. Walk-ins dont take too long to get seated as long as youre not coming in on the weekend. They got a bar for a pretty nice beer selection. Appointments are on point. When you make one, you are almost guaranteed to be seen within those 5 minutes of your appointment. Of course, they do a great job on your hair/beard no matter who you see.

I’ve been searching for a quality barber for 10 months with no luck, until now. After a short conversation at the front desk I was paired with Lindsay. I knew within seconds of meeting her that Lindsay had the knowledge to do quality work. Her performance and attention to detail were nothing short of excellent.

Good haircut in a really, really cool hip space. Availability of beer and friendly staff to hang out with make it worth the visit - if you have the time or can go at non-peak hours.I do not remember the name of the person who cut my hair, but she did a great job and in good time. I do not typically let hair stylists use clippers because I have very thick hair and it has gone badly in the past. I took a risk and allowed their use for the sides on this visit and it turned out great.The only real problem here seems to be that you will often have to wait - there are no reservations. This means that at peak times around lunch or after work you are going to be sitting a while, sometimes in excess of 30-45 minutes from what I understand. The only time I went I arrived only an hour before closing and only had to wait about 15 minutes. While waiting you can sit at the bar and try out some interesting craft beers. This and the opportunity to chat with the bartender make a wait of that length totally bearable.The space is also really cool and well decorated. Lots of industrial-chic, manly stuff. For example, small tables made out of giant wire spools.I was told over the phone that I could bring my dog in if he would be well-behaved. I did not end up bringing him, but the option is there and thats great.At the end of my cut, because I was the last there, the staff had a cheese plate that they had been snacking on and they offered me some. Apparently the owner is connected to a creamery somehow. Just an indication that its a small staff of friendly folks.Another nice thing: they wont try to sell you on some new product and try to get you to buy from some cosmetics company that sponsors the salon. Thats always kind of transparent and annoying from some of your typical hair salons.The difficulty of scheduling and long wait means it does not get 5 stars. Otherwise, a really cool place that I will visit again.

I dont try to rate businesses poorly as I am a small business owner but 28 bucks for a haircut and 30 for a shave around my skinny beard. That was not made clear at all when I came in. Decent job but I dont have 50 bucks every three weeks to fork out. I recommended they be more clear next time.

My son and I come here about once a month and always leave looking sharp and satisfied with the entire experience. I have been a client for the last 3 years, and I have noticed how the quality has gone down considerably. It used to be that I would just walk in and regardless who did my hair, it would turn out great. Not so much now, I have more frequently been regretting coming here. Today was the straw that broke the camels back. I got a terrible un-even haircut, and not stylish at all. I think I could have done a better job cutting my own hair with my eyes closed. Would not recommend until the fix the quality issue with new hires.

If you live in downtown Durham, its an okay concept because you can obviously afford it. If you dont live in downtown Durham, it is WAYYYY overpriced and looking for parking is atrocious. I like to get a haircut at least twice a month. Here, were talking $50 for a haircut and trim AROUND the beard and even more money just to touch it! Honey, it looks like Im headed back to Great Clips!

I made an appointment for my guy to have his beard trimmed up for v. Day. He came back to me with razor burn and a few bloody spots... even down his neck away from the beard. He said it was painful and also that jessica didnt warn him before she started shaving (she had a towel over his face). He was just about to readjust his body when he felt the razor and realized he better not move. Ive uploaded a few pics from the morning after the shave, so check it out if you want. Super disappointed 😔He did say it is a really cool place and that the guy running it was super nice.
