Its honestly quiet a shame on how my customer service was handled today with the rep I spoke, especially with how highly rated their technicians are. It started off well & quickly took a dive when I began to ask her if either her or someone from technical support could answer my genuine concerns about my unit. I made it clear that I was unhappy with how she was speaking towards me & she did very little to turn the situation around nor do any better to address my concerns.I spoke to another company right after with the same exact questions & they were able to answer my concerns with a more professional attitude.

We decided to give Alternative Aire a try after hearing a good review somewhere, and always feeling like other companies were trying to unnecessary upsell us things we may not need. Curtis came out and was very friendly and knowledgable. He had our unit cleaned up really quickly and then went upstairs to investigate a wiring issue in our zone controller that we inherited when we bought the house. While other companies had quoted us over $500 for fixing it, he just said, Oh, I see whats going on, thats easy! and fixed it for $30. He was a pleasure to interact with, and he treated us fairly rather than preying on our lack of expertise. Theyve absolutely earned my future business.

Very glad I found Alternative Aire. They came out and got my old system running to get us heat. But we already knew our 20+ year old undersized system was on borrowed time. We ended up replacing the whole system. The quote we got was competitive but that wasnt why I went with them. One of the owners came out and basically gave me a primer on HVAC. Everything went better than expected and Im using them for all of my future needs.All of the technicians were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Its been about 14 months since they replaced it and I have had no issues. I did sign up for a twice a year tune up and they came out on time and were great both times

We had a problem with our AC on a very hot and humid Sunday in august. The technician Lee showed up within an hour and fixed the AC. He was extremely nice especially with our big dog and inquisitive grandson.

Alternative Aire didnt disappoint or let us down in any way.From booking the appointment with Erin (she was really sweet and seems like Ive known her forever) to David Andresen who performed the service on our two units. We were able to get an appointment fairly quickly & they were prompt with the arrival window they gave us today.David was very thorough and even helped my husband get rid of an empty hornets nest near the units and he was also careful not to trample on the dozen peony plants we had planted close by. Their pricing was more than fair and he didnt try to upsell on any other services or parts. He spent a good amount of time going over everything and making sure nothing needed to be done besides the regular maintenance. He took his time and didnt rush.The reviews on here for Alternative Aire speak for themselves and we will definitely stick with this company for our air/heating maintenance services and will definitely ask for David again.

Our A/C was not cooling. An appointment was made with a specific date and time, between 1:30 - 2:30. It was great, he arrived within that time span. He checked the unit to find the problem, cleaned the coils and added coolant. He also checked the duct work under the house to be sure everything was in order. He was professional and the price was reasonable. We would definitely recommend Alternative Aire, Inc!

I have used Alt Aire for several years now including an emergency replacement of my furnace during cold weather when my old furnace was leaking gas and gas co shut it off! They are always friendly, reliable, quick to help when needed. They just did maintenance check on my older AC unit and keep it running great every year. I highly recommend them.

Fast response and fair pricing!

Alternative Aire were very nice people, but did have some trouble diagnosing what was going on with your system. The maintenance performed was good, but when we described what was going on they said everything was fine. We called a different company to get a second opinion and it turns out we needed our whole evaporator coil replaced. That was a huge miss for Alternative Aire. We will no longer be using Alternative Aire, but All Weather Heating and Cooling for our Lennox system instead.

Very informative and efficient service. We had to be rescheduled somewhat last minute with an employee being sick, but they fit us in again very quickly. Satisfied with the work and price, will use them for any HVAC needs moving forward.

We seemed to have a relatively easy problem to fix with our heat pump, and our technician, Curtis, took care of it quickly and had us up and running in under an hour. He took the time to explain what was happening and showed me more than I’ve ever known about my heat pump. The technician arrived on time and did not try to upsell me anything. Another company said I may have to complete repairs totaling a few hundred dollars. This company came and inspected my unit and performed routine maintenance. I wasn’t home so they showed everything to my wife and let her know how everything works. Some simple things that had to be performed like wrapping a pipe with $5 of insulation and moving mulch. Instead of automatically charging me, they let me know what to do and so I could do it myself for free. This is my new go to HVAC company in Durham.

Ive sat on this review for a few months so I can get used to the new system and have a good idea of the issues. The overall experience with Alternative Aire was good. They came out quickly to inspect the place, provided multiple quotes for various systems, and the original tech even let us know that our water heater was leaking.Install also went well. They were quick to get us on the schedule and completed the work in two days.Its everything that came after that lead to 3 stars. We first noticed that the AUX heat kept coming on at times it shouldnt. The weather at that time was in the 40-50s, and it would kick on late in the afternoon when it was warmest outside (and no, I never change our thermostat more than 1 degree at any given time). We learned after multiple emails and another trip or two that they didnt install the sensor outside even though it was included in my original quote.My husband had also pointed out to them on install day that one of the ducts in the attic is a bit squished (not caused by Alternative Aire) and if they could check the rest and see about repairing it. They assured him that the duct work is fine. Its obviously not fine because that squished duct makes the room its attached to way too cold or warm since its not getting much air ...A few other smaller issues aside, my main concern is the zoning. Our house was not zoned previously and I received no feedback that would lead me to believe it should not be zoned now. We had to call them back out a few times because when the heat (and now A/C) would turn off, it would blow air so hard that it sounded like a tornado in the house and junk from way down in the ducts would get blown out. They would adjust the dampers some and say everything is fine now. Not fine. It seems like we can either have a real zoned system (where the air only blows in the zone being called for) and have the gusting air that is so loud you have to turn the TV up (or wakes me up at night), or we can have a normal sounding system and have air blow in both zones even though its only being called for in one.Were currently on the option where it blows in both zones when only one is calling. After getting fed up with them coming back out all the time to be stuck with one of the issues or the other, I ended up voting for the quieter system and adjusted the dampers myself so that they dont fully close when off.I can only assume the system we were sold is too large or our duct work is too small for proper zoning. Ive even spoken with another company who said that while some air will come out in zones not being called on and that it might get a touch louder when turning off, it should not be half as loud as ours is when the dampers are set to close all the way when off. He suggested a by-pass to fix the issue but I know I dont want that.All in all, I feel like I paid thousands extra for no reason since we pretty much have a single zoned system disguised as a dual zone. I will probably use Alternative Aire again for the two free service visits that came with the system, but then Im back on the market.
