Theyre friendly and nice to you in person / over the phone but thats about it. I took my FZJ80 Landcruiser here a few months back and they threw the new guy on it and he messed up a ton of stuff on my vehicle. Ended up costing me another $800 to fix it again on top of the $700 I spent at Vickers. These things I just paid to get fixed were things that werent even broken in the first place until I used this mechanic. Never coming back here. Find a better shop that actually respects your vehicle.

We struggled with faulty parts with my car repair, but ultimately the mechanics did what needed to be done to get my car in good shape. 5 stars for honesty and customer service. I will be back.

Vickers is unwilling to work with customers with questions about their vehicles. Would strongly recommend against using this shop.I needed a part replaced that I had gotten at a shop in Southern California that was still under warrantee. I had lots of questions about pricing and the part itself because I was unable to take it to a shop in the area that used the same insurance program. They were clearly very bothered by my questions about pricing, bothered when I asked the secretaries to check with their mechanics, bothered when I was confused by their pricing structure. They did give me a refund for my diagnostic (which I didnt even ask for, but did sincerely appreciate) and then said they would not take me as a customer again. I was very polite and calm, Ive worked a lot in customer service, I simply dont know a lot about cars and wanted to make sure things were in order. A surreal experience.

The service is amazing. They are also less expensive than other shops in Davis or Sacramento I have tried. Very pleasant, professional and great at what they do.

Last summer my AC broke. I went to a different mechanic and had it looked at and they told me they’d need to take my car for 4 days and do a full AC check. I didn’t have the time or the money for a full AC check at the time, so I skipped it. Last month, I took my car to Vickers because it was getting too hot to not have working AC. They fixed it within a couple of hours (said my relay switch was broken), and didn’t even charge me for the inspection or the parts! I was really, really pleased and impressed and will be returning to Vickers in the future.Additionally, every employee I spoke with was extremely kind. When I walked in to drop my car off, the two family dogs were in the lobby. You can tell it’s a family owned, family run business and I really liked that, too.

John and his family have been taking care of me for 4 years. They have been the kindest and most honest repair shop I have ever had. John may have left us, but he has touched the lives of many in Davis.

I have now brought both of my vehicles to Vickers and I can say that they are the absolute best repair shop I have ever used. My partner and I went here based off the reviews, and they are legit! Not only are the office staff so friendly and upfront with the issues your car has (as well as pricing), but the mechanics are top notch and do a wonderful job. They also dont try to upsell you on services your car doesnt need, and are super honest. Wed taken our car to Firestone in Natomas for an oil change, and they told us we needed to get a fuel system flush (costing something like $180). Rather than go back, we asked Vickers about it and they flat out said a fuel injector cleaner would do the job (available at Target, even, for $4). So thats what we did. Our car runs so much smoother now!Our older 02 Camry was having issues with the check engine light, and we actually ended up having to bring it in twice - not due to anything on Vickers fault; the car is old, and it needed a new mass air flow sensor as well as a new catalytic converter (check engine light came on for both of these). They were very communicative and kept us posted when the car was ready.When Id initially called in to inquire about a new catalytic converter, nobody picked up and I was sent to a voicemail explaining they were either busy with a customer, or on the phone with another customer. I left a message and received a call back maybe an hour later. Stevie was so sweet, and told me that she got my voicemail and put in a message with the lead mechanic, Izzy. She said she would call me back with an exact price, and gave an explanation in regards to the code the reader gave - the catalytic converter being bad. She explained things so thoroughly, and spent a good amount of time on the phone with me, that it made me feel super comfortable.After lagging on our end, we gave them the ok to order a new cat, and from when we gave the ok to when we picked up the car, it hadnt even been a full week. We picked it up today and it runs beautifully. Stevie told us to drive the car for 80-100 miles, bring it back (I forget what the term she used was, but essentially to make sure there are no issues since we need to pass smog - diagnostic, maybe?), and from there we should be good to take it straight to a smogging shop.Its the attention to detail and thorough explanations that earns them 5 stars. If youre having any doubts about where to go in Davis for car work, Vickers is up high on the list. Highly, highly recommend!

Came in on my only day off and even though they were pretty booked they managed to squeeze me in. Both of my brake lights were out and I was unsure if I just needed new bulbs or if there was a larger issue. I just sat in the waiting room for less than 30 minutes until someone was free to look at my car. It ended up just needing new bulbs and they didn’t even charge me for their time or the bulbs. Wonderful, accommodating people with excellent customer service!

We would take all of our cars to them if we didnt live seven hours away.! Our daughter attends UC Davis and was having intermittent stalling with her 20011 Toyota. Intermittent problems are always a challenge which is when John and Cindy went above and beyond, testing the car over multiple days and conditions, with equipment and manually, to ensure the car was in great shape when it left their shop.As a parent who lives 7 hours away, it is great to know that our daughter has a great, reliable car repair place she can trust in to take care of her and her car.

I cannot express completely how happy I am with the service from Vickers. Everyone there treated me like a lifelong customer even though it was my first visit and the service was top notch. They took care of my brakes and headlight at a very competitive price, and spent time diagnosing an issue that was caused by my recent visit to the local dealership service bay free of charge (H****** overfilled the oil causing the check engine/hazard light to trigger). Night and day difference in the level of service compared to the dealership with no up-selling bs. These folks have a lot of integrity and a new loyal customer.

This was just about the worst experience I’ve ever had with a mechanic. I took my car in because I was having transmission issues and because I had a coolant leak. They said they wouldn’t find anything wrong with the transmission, charged me $550 to fix my coolant leak, and sent me on my way. They told me they “couldn’t recreate” my transmission problem and said that “car just do that sometimes” but that fixing the coolant leak would likely fix whatever driving problems I was having. I then drove my car to San Francisco and was still experiencing transmission problems. I checked my car and my coolant tank was completely empty (even though I had paid to have the coolant system flushed and refilled) and I had to refill it. When I left SF, as I was merging on the freeway, my car would not accelerate and started sputtering and the check engine light came on. This was an extremely dangerous situation as I was stuck on the freeway with oncoming traffic unable to drive over 25 mph. The worst part of all of this is that when I called to ask about the problem the mechanic was completely unsympathetic, unapologetic, and blamed me for not taking the car to a transmission specialist. I had come in hoping that I could rely on the mechanic to tell me if something was wrong, and I even double checked to make sure they had checked the transmission and that it was good to go because I WANTED to fix whatever issue I was having. I don’t believe they exercised their due diligence in checking my car, and they failed to communicate that they didn’t have the capacity to properly check or fix the transmission. I am now stuck in SF and I didn’t even get so much as an apology for the situation they put me in.**edit/update: I took my car to a different shop and the problem actually had NOTHING to do with the transmission. One of the cylinders was not firing. There was no excuse for the mechanic to not catch the issue.

An ancient proverb states “a faithful (read: reliable, dependable, trustworthy) man will abound with good things, but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.” Vickers auto hasn’t “hastened to be rich” or tried to pull the wool over my eyes with me ever; they’ve been absolutely faithful and reliable, here’s hoping they get the good things.

If anyone is in the area and is having car trouble, Id definitely recommend Vickers Automotive Repair. I got my front brake master and brake booster replaced on an older Honda accord, which now performs perfectly. Best auto service at Vickers. They will only replace what is needed and their labor rate is lower than dealer. My wife and family have brought our 5 cars for repairs. We trust them and are honest on billing. Be prepared to give them advanced appointment, as they are always backed up with repairing other vehicles.

Vickers is very close to UC Davis. My daughter has had just a wonderful experience with this auto workshop. Last year, her Prius needed a replacement display on the dashboard. Vickers did this repair very quickly and cost-effectively. This year, her Prius was broken into for the catalytic converter. Vickers was very swift to provide a quote and deliver within a week. They would also weld a cage around the new catalytic converter to deter a future theft - proactive and thoughtful. It is a family run business. Been in Davis for long. Cindy who runs the office is very sweet. Highly recommend for a great experience of auto repair.

Several years back I had John replace my brakes. 6 months after he replaced my brakes, I went back to have him look over my car. John informed me that my brakes would have to be replaced again. I took my car to another mechanic to check, and I was informed that my brakes were fine. Ive been driving on the brakes that needed replacement for 5 years now, and no other mechanic has tried to replace them.

I was on a roadtrip, just me, to try to meet my husband and kids, and my VW vanagon broke down in Davis. John went above and beyond to fit me in first thing the next morning and got me on my way. While I was there, some first responders (firefighters?) came in and thanked him for something he did for them as well - its clear hes a respected member of the community.

I made an appointment with Jon to do a pre-purchase inspection on the WRX I wanted to buy and I met the seller there. From the get go, the staff were super welcoming and friendly, and the mechanics went above and beyond with checking through the car. He even made sure to try and help me get me the best deal possible on the car and was incredibly thourough with the inspection. I bought the car and will definitely return

Great place and fair people

I was rear-ended by someone whos insurance totaled my Nissan. They said that the underside was all crumpled, brackets needed work and the entire back end had to be replaced. I cannot afford a new car with the money they were offering to pay me out with. I went to Vickers to see if I could keep my car running if I fixed what was wrong with the underside and not worry about the anesthetics. He put my car up and showed me underneath and only the bumper was crumpled. He said it was safe to drive and showed me how the brackets where in place and fine. It was a huge relief to have someone not try to sell me new parts or offer services that I didnt request. He also didnt charge me for a diagnostic. Ill be back if I ever need auto repair!

I thought these guys did a great job- worked me in at short notice for much needed brake work on my daughter/student’s neglected car, finished the work when they said they would, the price was very fair and the brakes are smooooth! This is her new mechanic.

My Camry has weird noise. Hanlees said the problem was drive belt tensioner and the cost is over $600. I cannot accept that. Vickers found the problem is actually drive belt idler pulley and they only charge me over $200. Even if its drive belt tensioner, Vickers price is still less than $300. Now the noise is gone. If I knew Vickers earlier, I should have saved hundreds of bucks.

While another auto shop screwed up my transmission on purpose (didn’y put back the transmission fluid after opened the pan, and failed to put back the pan in the right position), which makes my car completely undriveable, and tired to push me to pay more money, the Vickers finds out the problem, super quickly fixed my car, now it’s completely good.I appreciate Vickers for everything they have done !

My son has been attending UC Davis for over three years now. During that time his 2000 Dodge Durango has had some serious issues including the computer and most recently a broken valve spring and bent valve. John was able to diagnose and economically fix the issues. As a distant father, it is reassuring to have found Vickers Automotive. It is a top notch first rate business who takes pride in their work and service. They did not overcharge or try to gouge. I highly recommend them.

Good, honest shop, but customer communication needs improvement. Owner (John) acted irritated with me when I asked questions about brake noises I was continuing to hear after the repair. Really put me off. I wont be returning.

John PROVED HIS HONESTY to me at quite a cost to himself. I brought my Buick van for a diagnosis of a stability control problem it was having. My vans computer reported 11 different problem codes, although it has had a tendency to report problems falsely. A different dealer might have have milked it by just saying that we needed to repair all of the parts that the computer was signaling, or just casually replaced a part or two at random and sent us home without making sure the problem was really solved. Instead, he carefully and thoroughly checked it out for a full 8 hours and then called me to suggest I take it to the dealer for a more thorough diagnosis (since the dealer would have more product-specific equipment for diagnostics) to make sure we actually nailed the real problem. He offered to do the repair work once we received the full diagnosis from the dealer. Not only was he making a big sacrifice for our sake, since he was taking a chance that I would have the dealer do the repair, he even refused to charge me ANY diagnostic fee for all the work he did. Definitely a keeper.
