Ive been coming to Hoffmann Automotive since my college days at UCD over 15 years ago. Over that period they have conducted all the routine maintenance on our cars as well as a few minor repairs as necessary.I used to worry about whether or not an auto shop was being honest with me. I can say that Ive never felt that way at Hoffmann Auto. The guys there are always very direct about what the car needs, and if it is something that can wait or not. When I was a college student, I definitely preferred to do the bare minimum, since that is all my budget afforded. Now I tend to try to stay ahead of things and keep our cars in the best mechanical condition possible. I always feel like I get to make an informed decision though, even though Im not particularly knowledgeable about cars on my own.While Jason will pick you up and drop you off as a courtesy service, I usually just work from their waiting area (its clean and pretty spacious). I cant help but overhear some of the conversations between them and customers or about the jobs they have going on. It really does seem like they try to bend over backward to be accommodating and to provide good service. More than once Ive overheard a customer being kind of unreasonable, but Jeff, Jason and the rest of crew are always really patient. Its obvious that service and reputation are very important to them, and I know it has won them a lot of loyal customers like myself.

I highly recommend the Hoffman team for all your automotive repair needs.Trustworthy, honest business that will always be truthful and upfront with you. I especially recommend for women and seniors, it can be daunting for vehicle owners to feel they are being told the truth about problems.

Hoffmann Automotive is thoroughly professional, reliable, and attentive to customer needs. Due to health issues at home it was important that we had contact-less service due to Covid19. Hoffmann came and picked up the car and brought it back the same day at no additional charge. Jeff Hoffmann gave an honest assessment of the car’s health beyond the needed tire replacement, and advised not doing certain repairs for the time being since we would not be driving it much for the foreseeable future. The price I was quoted was $200 less than the dealership, and I would have had to pay for a tow in order to have contact-less service. I will be using in the future and definitely recommend them.

Went in because my car would randomly die despite just replacing the battery.It took two days and $30 for them to look at it for 15 minutes and determine nothing was wrong. Immediately after taking the car back the car started dying again... when I called them back and told them about the issues (upset obviously) and asked for advice the response was “are you coming in again?” When I said “No because-“ I was cut off and hung up on. Had they waited they would have known I wasn’t going to bring it in today but I could the next.Now I don’t know about the average Joe but I wouldn’t want to pay another $30 and wait two days for that type of service.

I understand that unwanted life circumstances do happen, such as incidents where a customers car comes out dented when the dent was not there before. However, I dont think it gives the right for any business owner to scream at the person and accuse them of pulling something. the attitude surrounding the incident turns an unpleasant incident into a nightmare.

A friend recommended this place and I had a really good experience. Everyone was friendly, professional, and efficient, One of the best businesses in town.

While living in Davis I visited Hoffmann auto twice for repair work (2006 Honda Accord). The first was to repair my A/C, after replacing the compressor it worked great. Unfortunately a few months later the A/C stopped working taking it back to Hoffmann they found the compressor was faulty (it happens I dont blame Hoffmann) and they replaced it free of charge with 0 hassle. I found the staff to be friendly and easy going (they even reattached a Honda name plate I had accidentally ripped off the back of my car for no cost). The repairs were timely, I dropped off my car in the morning (by appointment) both times and picked it up same afternoon. The proximity to the U apartments also made it easy to drop off and pick up my car, if you are a resident of the U Id recommend them, and of course to others as well.

Wonderfully friendly staff. Seriously considering customer and staff safety in the COVID era. We will definitely be repeat customers.

Great Service!I am a returning customer, and I got to say that the service is fantastic. I like the way they take the time to explain about what needs to fixed and even take the time to let you know what is the severity of the issue so you can decide if you want to take care of it now or postpone it. It showed me that they are not all about the money and they are really about giving excellent car service.

I was 500 miles from home when the brake pedal began to fail on my F250. Hoffmann Autimotive fit me in right away. They found the problem and had me back on the road in no time! Great friendly place, reasoable prices and knowledgeable and honest mechanics!!! I highly recommend Hoffmann Automotive!!!

Very good company. We get a couple of different cars serviced there. We have always found the work to be good and the prices fair.

I highly recommend them! My car stalled intermittently with no check engine light and no trouble codes to indicate what the problem was. This is always a challenge, I realize. When I took it to another mechanic, they were unable to diagnose and fix the problem. Long story short, Hoffmann Automotive fixed my stalling problem and the cost was more than reasonable. Also, they said if it acts up again to bring it back. They wanted to make sure the problem was fixed and cared about safety and customer satisfaction. This means a great deal to me!

I had my defunct car towed here from the Target parking lot up the road. They quickly let me know my engine was seized up and they couldn’t do anything about that. They also told me to check my warranty... (Bottom line, my engine was covered by a 100,000 mile warranty and it seized up at 89,000 miles due to a faulty oil pump. All that and my rental car is covered.) They graciously offered me an air-conditioned waiting area and refrigerated water (it was hot that day) without any financial compensation. Their restrooms were very clean, their waiting area was comfortable, and they were the kindest folks. When my car returns from its warrantied engine replacement, this is the place it will receive its oil changes and other maintenance. It’s the least I can do to repay them for making my nightmare of a day so much easier.It’s so hard to find a mechanic you can trust. I’d recommend Hoffman to friends and family.

Had AAA tow my car here on a weekend when they were closed. They called me immediately Monday morning. Turns out my car key was bad/worn. I got another key to them and things were fine. They also aired up my tires, cancelled a tire code on my dashboard. Didnt charge me a cent!. All this was done by phone. Excellent service, honest shop. A gem to find such a auto repair facility like this. I live in a nearby city, but have already sung praises about them to my family who do live in Davis.

My daughter had an appointment to get just an oil change, nothing more. They wanted to charge her $110 for an oil change. I called Andy at the shop and he told me this is what they charge. Total rip off. My daughter picked up her car and we will take our business elsewhere. I wanted to give them a try because we had been given a gift card to use there. I guess I will throw them away. Call anywhere in town and you can get the same service for around $40.

Their generosity and honesty made me cry today. After living almost one year in Davis, I found this shop as a best place. I cheated from Davis Auto-works on January 2017 and then by Lube Express. They only charged money without giving me an advise that what should I do with my car. Today, Hoffmann Automative give me the correct direction with full of honesty and generosity. I’ve been going to Hoffman for selective repairs since I learned to drive 30+ years ago (yep, back in the 76 station days). If you ask questions, they will answer you honestly and you can depend on that. If you need ‘real’ work done on a vehicle, they will do an excellent job guaranteed and that’s what you’re paying for. I’m not wealthy, so I can’t afford to be stupid. If you’re not mechanically savvy, can’t use the internet for research then I’d recommend asking those ‘friends’ who tell you what something “should have cost” before, rather than after you have the work done. I’ve done the research and they’re prices are well within reason but these guys focus on optimal performance rather than patch up work so you just have to be clear about what you need.

I hadnt driven my car for a year and it had been sitting in the sunshine/rain, heat/cold all that time. All of a sudden I needed to use the car but was afraid all the fluids would be low, the tires maybe low, and who knows what else. I called Hoffmann and they told me honestly they couldnt get to it that day but 2 days later would be possible. I started my car with Jump-It and drove the mile or so to Hoffmann, and left it. They recharged the battery, checked the fluids and tires, and my bill was much lower than I expected (Ive forgotten the exact amount). They have a wonderful waiting room stocked with cold water and sodas, a clean restroom, and courteous service. They never treat me with condescending contempt just because I am a woman. Ive always had good experiences with Hoffmann and I recommend them to everyone I know.

Im a UC Davis student, I was fooled by their reviews on yelp and trusted them.I went here thinking that everything is reasonable, I paid without thinking much about it. After my friends found out how much I paid for the service, I was told I got ripped off really badly. They found the exact same HID bulb online for less than $80.My bill comes out to be $191 to change ONE HID LIGHT BULB.To be exact: I was charged $150 for the bulb and $30 for 10 mis service and tax.Dear students, save yourself some money and stay away from these heartless people. I know its necessary to make profit, but really now......the price they charged me was way overboard. Go somewhere else where they wont rip you off. My biggest mistake was trusting their 5 star reviews on yelp and not ask anyone else about the price I had to pay for beforehand.In addition, the owner was very rude on the phone after I complained about the price of the bulb he charged me for. VERY RUDE! YOU just took $191 of my hard earned money within 10 mins, **** you. seriously. stay away from this place!If you dont mind the cost, yep go for it!
