This is easily the best value fitness center in the area that has a wide selection of equipment, classes and amenities. Although I typically only do personal workouts, I rarely feel like I cant do the exercise of my choice do to space or equipment limitations. The upgraded and expanded facility allows for a lot of extra space and I love the outdoor space, especially in light of the pandemic. I have some friends that also take classes and really enjoy them. In the last several months, I noticed that several members just stopped returning the weights and equipment after they used them, making it difficult to find what you are looking for sometimes. This has recently improved after management sent out an email and have obviously dedicated some staff time to straightening up, but there still seems to be a lot of clutter. But it seems they are on their way back to good. I would definitely recommend this gym for anyone looking to start their fitness journey!
Called in advance to come by for a day pass and the woman said yes, no problem and told us the price. when we arrived, a young woman at the desk insisted on having an actual ID (not a photo) and would not take that of the guardian. when we explained we called and drove 25 minutes to come, she continued to scowl and shrugged saying i dont know why you werent told without so much as an apology or hint of professional courtesy. it was not surprising that everyone else behind the desk was also scowling.
I would happily give this place five stars if they straightened out their power racks. A lot of the racks that are used are completely crooked and not secured to the ground. Makes centering yourself for safe and proper form extremely difficult. Also the staff here are extremely nice.
For a Golds gym this is above average. Overall it has a lot of space. Lots of room for Olympic lifting and large turf area as well as cardio. Can get a little crowded in some areas but there’s a lot of equipment here to use.
Good Gym! Just don’t try to cancel your membership! Just save yourself the headache and pay the monthly membership until you die, then leave it to your family in your Will, trust me!
Everyone is friendly, they solve issues quickly and effectively. Equipment is clean and always in working condition. If something wasn’t working they fix it quickly. The staff are kind and helpful with everything that’s needed. As well as the 24/7 hours really make the gym worth while. You get what you pay for, but not in this case. Low price and high quality, is why I will always choose Golds Gym.
Not bad I was a guess with a friend felt a little like checking in prison to see it inmate but love the equipment best ever
Good simple gym. Has machines to walk on and heavy things to lift. Very very clean
I called Sunday and explained to the gentleman that I cancelled my services and I’m still being billed. He told me I need to call back and speak to Anthony. Spoke to Anthony on Monday 7/26 he told me I was not able to get a refund and he is the highest person in charge. He said it’s no way of a refund and told me he was not going in circles with me and hangs up. Yes hangs up on a customer while I asked for the corporate office number
I went to workout for the first time after over a year of being on lockdown from the pandemic. I went in today and scanned my membership card and was told that there is a note on my account that there is an old account that shows in collections and that I could workout today but I couldn’t return until I resolved the account. I advised that I had no prior knowledge of this account and why am I just hearing about this after 5 years of my current membership? I also advised that I kept my membership active during the pandemic to support the business during that time as a lot of business had to close down. The young lady became disengaged and I guess the gentleman decided to step in and was nothing more than patronizing. When I advised him that have had an active membership for about 5 years and never received any notification of this his response was “that’s awesome” and “I’m sure you have emails somewhere about it” which I don’t. I left the facility and called and asked to speak to a manager and was told by the same gentleman that no managers or supervisors are on duty today. I asked who is in charge then and he advised with a laugh that it’s only the front desk today. I looked for the contact us section on the website and I could not locate it. I requested someone reach out to me on their IG page with explaining the issue as well. If this cannot be resolved in a satisfactory manner I will need to take my membership elsewhere. In all my years I had never experienced this. I am highly disappointed.UPDATE: I spoke with the billing manager this week and they were very pleasant and resolved the issue to my satisfaction.
This gym has a ton of equipment and a pretty good amount of space covering 2 floors. Is not the prettiest place but you get a great workout & the membership is great for the price. They offer alot of classes, have a lot of free weights & cardio machines. The staff is okay. Theyre not particularly friendly but not obnoxious meat heads either.**The biggest pet peeve is the fact that all of the dumbbell racks are missing 1/3 - 1/2 of the weights. The weights are scattered throughout the gym... somewhere. Good luck finding them.If they can encourage people to put the weights back on the rack & set that precedent then this gym would get 5 stars.
Has everything needed for body building and strength training, at a extremely reasonable monthly price.
I have a personal trainer at Golds Gym and it is an amazing experience. The facilities are great and the machinery is top notch!
Canceled in November 2020 which they required be done in person. Risked my life going in to cancel but find out a month later they didnt cancel my membership. Went straight to the bank to dispute the charge.Edit: manager reviewed the charges and account showing I havent gone in the gym over a year. They were able to waive the charges from the date I notified I canceled.
Super fun here.
Every time I go there I have a fantastic workout
This gold gym is ran efficiently. They have expanded the number of work put areas and machines for use. Everytime I go, the parking lot is full but the machines and weights I want to use on a given day are always available. If not, fellow weight lifters are usually willing to share or let you know when they are done. The child care staff are amazing. There are 2 in particular that always go above and beyond. They really get to know your children, engage with them and treat then as if they were their own. Ive been coming here for 4 yrs now and I cannot complain.
I have been going here for years. The new improvements and expansion has only made this gym better.
I just move to the area and I was looking for gym to train but they dont accept a free pass, which is on their website. I dont understand how more members are going to have. if we cant get to know the gym. And the guys in the front desk made me wait for like and hour to see de manager and he didn’t show up.
Weve used this gym for about a year. At first, I had no issues with the gym - everything was great, and the staff was very professional. However, since COVID this gym and their way of handling the situation has gotten out of hand. I have had to contact this gym 4 times to try to get my membership cancelled and my annual fee waived and the experience has been painful. I never want to use Golds again, nor will I refer friends/family to them. Here are my attempts at cancelling my membership:1. I called the gym and spoke with someone at the front desk. They told me that in order for me to cancel my membership I need to cancel in person, or I need to write a letter and mail it to them. I found this hysterical - in the age of the digital world, I am not sure why they dont allow anyone to cancel memberships online (I mean, the answer is a bit obvious – it’s because they don’t want anyone to cancel, they want to continuously bill people.)The person I spoke with also mentioned that the billing manager or the general manager need to be there when I cancel because they are the only 2 individuals that can cancel a membership (both of them normally work M-F, 9-5). Ironically, most membership holders also work M-F, 9-5. So, basically – if you want to cancel your membership, you need to do it via snail mail, or take some time off from work to cancel.2. Two days after my first call, I drive over to Golds and got there at about 4 pm. I usually work until 5 pm but was able to ask my manager if I can step out to take care of this. Luckily, I got to the gym at 4:15 pm. When I got there, I caught the billing manager as she was stepping out for the day. I told her that I wanted to cancel my membership and she started processing the cancellation – this part was shockingly painless. During the cancellation she mentioned that I need to provide a 30-day notice to cancel the membership and I will also be charged with an annual membership fee because that falls within my cancellation period.I found this to be a bit ridiculous considering that we are in the middle of a global pandemic and I didnt feel comfortable exercising around others. I asked her if the annual fee could be waived and she said that she couldnt waive the fee - only the GM (Anthony) could waive it. She gave me his phone number and said that I can call him next week, when he gets back from PTO.3. Yesterday, I called the front desk again to speak to the GM. I was told that he was busy, and I could leave a call back number. I did not receive a call back from the GM.4. I called again this morning (9:45 am) and spoke to a woman who explained to me that the GM was not in the office yet and he will call me back when he gets time. This frustrated me and I explained to her that I should not be expected to call back/exert this much effort into cancelling my membership and getting my annual fee waived. Rather than providing a solution, this person kept arguing back with me explaining that she couldnt do anything and that I needed to wait for the GM. I asked for her name and told her that I would leave a Google review. She refused to tell me her name and told me that I do not need to know her name and hung up.Overall, this process has been frustrating, overly complicated, and handled in an unethical and dishonorable way. There are processes put in place that make it very difficult for the customer to manage/cancel their gym membership.
Golds gym is not handling the Covid pandemic well at all. They were still charging membership fees for the months that the gym was closed and are not allowing me to cancel my membership without paying for the months that the gym was closed. Golds is a joke and I do not recommend that anyone sign up with them.
People are still walking around with their masks around their chins and the staff walks passed them or doesnt even check periodically to make sure members are following the mask rule.. just hanging out behind the desk joming
I honestly enjoyed going to this gym, but their communication about billing during the pandemic was nothing short of horrendous. They never communicated that they were reopening and actually charged me for the entire time they were closed too. Like all gyms, they require you to cancel in person or through a letter, but somehow they never received my cancelation letter (convenient) and sent a charge of $155 through collections. How they got to $155? Who knows! If youre moving, make sure you cancel in person because they might just lose your cancelation letter too 🤷🏼♀️
I love that gymGreat space to workoutThey have the right equipment you to train!
Gold’s Gym Crofton ruined my credit and I was on a month to monthMy understanding was this was not a contractual obligation which meant if I didn’t pay I couldn’t use the facilities. Well after they reopened from the shut down in July the charged me for months k didn’t use the gym. I hadn’t used the facilities since February. Shut down happened March 19 they attempted to charge me on March 22 I called the number for the gym they had no forwarding info and corporate is purely for sales. I called the number on my bank statement it was for billing a company called ABC something I expressed I didn’t want the membership the agent pulled my card so I didn’t think anything of it. When I saw this on my credit report I called the gym the Manager said I was supposed to call when the gym reopened in July. This is unacceptable especially given the gym was closed for 4 or so months...I would caution anyone thinking to join Gold’s Gym Crofton...these business practices are harmful especially if you are trying to build or protect your credit while staying healthy.I also saw a few other posts with this issue...I am willing to see what it would take to do a CLASS-ACTION as this business practice is harmful to credit when credit was not a requirement for a month to month
Looking for a new gym to go to and went into look. When I went up to the desk it was like I was bothering the staff to get information. Then when I asked about costs and membership i had an iPad shoved in my face. I also asked for a tour because the environment of the the gym is also important, the young man giving us the tour had a poor attitude, when we went back to the front desk he brushed us off onto the young lady that first greeted us and again she acted annoyed. The facility seems nice however the environment is toxic
Go Army! Beat Navy!
I haven’t been to this gym in over a year. I recently had a baby and moved right before everything shutdown. I thought I had to go into the gym to cancel my membership (because that’s what I was told months ago) and obviously with a newborn and this virus I was not able to go in and cancel my membership. So this morning I was just charged $49.99 for my “annual service fee” which I would not have been charged if I was able to cancel my membership and wasn’t told I had to physically come into the gym with my ID. I am now informed I can mail a certified letter. Great, a little late. Glad I’m paying a service fee on a gym I literally haven’t stepped foot in in about 1.5 years. I will never belong to this gym again.
I have gone to this gym for YEARS, they close down for coronavirus for a few months but They STILL bill me. I will pay my membership on time every time as I have done for years. But if the gym is closed for months I WILL NOTT still pay. So they send me to collections. I know multiple people having this issue with this gym. I’ll never use or recommend this gym again. I never received a email concerning this, I never even received a voicemail concerning this. Just a missed payment on my credit report. This could of easily been sorted but I guess picking up the phone or typing an email requires too much effort from them.
I have been a member to Crofton Gold’s Gym for a long time. Recently my kids brought to my attention that some folks give some bad reviews. I have decided to write the review in order to counter some of unreasonable folks.Firstly, I would like to thank Crofton Gold’s Gym for making the Kids Club a friendly, clean and exceptional place where I can take my kids to go for a great workout.Secondly, I want to thank the manager for the wonderful job she is doing. No matter how busy her day is she has always attentive to customers. She always remains polite and professional to all customer interactions. She skillfully and wisely manages even the most difficult customer and is a dedicated and an empathetic listener to all.Lastly, I would like to thank the front desk personnel: I am really pleased with great customer service provided. You guys’ always make my family feel welcome and care about developing a long-term customer service that means more than just making a sale. Your attention to detail, great communication skills, and ready smile made the experience even better than I expected. I would recommend Crofton Gold’s Gym to any parent that needs a great place take kids for your workouts. Keep up the good work!
Love the atmosphere and kids club!!!
Everyone here is fantastic. Larry and Kelly from the GGT classes are awesome. Even the front desk staff are super friendly.
My wifes account was transferred here after the Elkridge location closed. She cancelled her membership in June 2020 during the COVID pandemic. Lo and behold this Golds gym is still charging her nearly three months later. When she tried to call they repeatedly hung up on her. Completely unprofessional!
I have been a member of this gym (Crofton location) for about 18 years now. I wouldn’t even consider switching to an alternative gym. The staff is beyond accommodating, they are always informative and helpful, and the gym equipment is always top of the line. If you aren’t sure exactly how to use the equipment, simply ask and they are more than happy to show you how to use it properly in order to get all the benefits it offers. There have been numerous times that I have encountered certain circumstances which I was not sure if I was properly doing the exercise (usually because it had been a while since the last time I did it). I did not feel uncomfortable simply asking for some assistance. They would much rather you leave the gym feeling accomplished rather than questioning whether your efforts were truly helpful. The front desk is ALWAYS so helpful and maintain an attitude and demeanor that actually reinforces the positive energy you need to pursue a great work out. And of course, it makes you even more willing to come back in every chance you get. They want to see you succeed and they take it very seriously considering you have a gym membership for a reason. I have never left that gym feeling like I was too uncomfortable, defeated, or unwilling to return. That exact opposite. The more I walk into that gym, the more confidence I automatically have to do what I intended to do. Great staff :-) worth every single penny.
The team is really trying to keep everyone safe with mask reminders and sanitizer stations being constantly maintained. 6ft distance is still a problem but for the most part there is a consistent attempt
Golds Gym is a scam. I tried to cancel my membership in early spring before the COVID pandemic and they told me I needed to speak to a manager during normal business hours on a weekday (when I, like many others, work).I was FINALLY able to set time aside from my own schedule to cancel at the begining of September and they told me I owed my fee for that month (okay, no big deal). But they also said I owed my ANNUAL FEE for the upcoming year!? $50 for an annual fee for a year that Im not going to be there. Unreal.Dont bother with Golds, they dont care about you, they just want your money no matter how they get it. Ill be telling everyone I know how terrible they are.
Upgraded Facility is Nice, equipment selection widest around. Place for all fitness types.
So glad this gym survived all the closers, so great to be able to work out again
I would avoid this place. Find a membership at a more reputable gym. There is Sport Fit with several pools or LA Fitness. The ownership and management will scam you.I have called them no less than six (6) times in the last the last ten days to cancel my membership since moving out of state. Not once have they answered, but their social media is active. So I communicated with them on Twitter twice and no answer. I even called their financial management company to no avail.Find a more reputable gym this place is terrible when it comes to customer service.
We love kids club! The reason we decided on Golds over any of the other gym in the area was because of the affordability of good child care while we worked out. Not only is it affordable at Golds Crofton but the kids club staff is staff is exceptional and trustworthy- huge for me. Some of the nicest group of employees you’ll meet anywhere!
The General Manager was should be trained in customer service. I came in under hoping to take advantage of a Groupon deal -$8 for one month. They tried selling me a membership and told me I would only have to pay $12.99 per month but the first month would be free, and I would pay nothing else. This was false. I was charged $12.99 the first month and told to wait because actually the second month is free. I called to cancel my membership and Anthony told me I should have canceled 30 day’s prior. But I told him they were closed 30 days prior due to COVID-19. He only agreed to credit my account $12.99 for the month of July since I would be charged again for not canceling 30 days prior. He said I still could not get the initial $12.99 refunded because he had no way to do this. He also proceeded to tell me that why did you sign up because it sound like you were never even interested in a membership, and we gave you a good deal. BTW- you will still pay an enrollment fee of $49.99 that he can’t wave and I was never previously informed of. Then he said no one else could help me resolve because he is the General Manger. Very deceptive practices, unprofessional in addressing me as a customer and inappropriate in his communications. I went to Gold’s Gym a total of two times before the pandemic and could not continue to go. Now Anthony says I have to pay a total of $63.98 regardless. Unacceptable.
We joined golds after being at another gym the first 2 years we lived here...I dont regret it for a minute. I love the variety of classes, people I have met, but most of all the child care. They are able to meet the needs of all children regardless of their abilities. They take the time to care, learn, and communicate with the parent on the proper way to interact with the specific child. As a former special educator, it is so important to have this mindset and I love their dedication to our kiddos!
I wish i had read the reviews before i signed up for this gym . I visited once in the 3 months i was a guest . Front desk was rude during each point of contact and not to mention the whole time one of the guys from the front desk followed me around . i came in to cancel my membership being that i no longer felt comfortable TWICE because the first time my paperwork got lost - after my membership was canceled, they charged me a 49.99 fee . Therefore if they would have canceled it the first time, the fee wouldnt have been charged ! how convenient ! talking to the GM andrew, called me a liar and hung up on me . DO NOT SUPPORT THIS LOCATION !!
Nice gym but possible fraudulent billing practices. The gym is nice and kept up pretty well. But try cancelling even after your contract mandatory time is up, good luck. Have to meet with a manager and then theres never one around or busy. If you contact your card to stop paying ABC financial starts contacting you. Called multiple times, went in person, and still trying to cancel. It should not be that hard to do. The inability to cancel a service after multiple attempts leads its self to being fraudulent. Why cant you just call and tell them to cancel like any other recurring subscription. Beware.
Poor management ! They charged us without any notification while everywhere were shutdown because of Covid19! It’s not a clean place and so crowded!
Newly renovated with amazing equipment and facilities, I was blown away at all the great stuff when I first got there. The signup process was easy with no pressure. It took a total of 10 minutes to get me my membership card. The facility is huge with a large space for functional fitness folks. I was there at 7 am and had no problem getting the equipment I wanted. I’ve been to my fair share of gyms and this one has a moderate number of people. I definitely wouldn’t call it crowded.Tons and tons of cardio equipment including a movie theater and spin classes.I also think I counted over six great looking squat racks, which brings me to the only problem. They don’t have enough plates. They’re likely ordering more, they JUST finished the renovation and added the new equipment, but right now, before starting your workout you should wander around and grab the plates you need.
Great gym, friendly staff. I always see people cleaning (to the point it’s a little annoying but better clean than gross.)The kids club is amazing! Love the women that work there! They’re friendly and helpful and attentive!
Tried to cancel membership last year after 3 years. Called and called, each time put on hold with no pick up, so I cancelled the card. ABC sent me a text to pay, called them, no help there. Went into gym to cancel and was told I would have to pay $140 just to cancel. They are supposed to get 30 day notice. The tactics of the staff don’t allow for acknowledgement of the notice. Okay, so why not start the 30 days today when I’m standing there. Not say you will charge me for February, March AND another annual fee. Three years of being loyal customer and paying on time, now I get the run around when I want to leave. Ridiculous!!
This is by far the best gym in the area. Its the only real gym around, in my opinion. The expansion is also incredible. One request.... more football and sports on the TVs.
Amazing gym .Possibly changed my life. I was at planet fitness eating at a 3 am every night and couldnt seem to lose weight. Now that Ive joined golds gym Ive lost 15 pounds and I still eat at 3am!! Overall wonderful staff. Hire of the year goes to : Tory(or tarry). Ever since Ive joined this gym (30weeks ago).. Tory or tarry (sorry bud bad with names) has worked effortless in cleaning all machines while maintaining a spotless floor. I do not know who she is nor am I related but I believe she deserves a raise and or a better position. I will be willing to pay half her hourly rate. Lets negotiate. PS JOIN CRYPTOTHERAPY .
Don’t sign up here unless you want to get ripped off, they do false advertisement and when you complain about it they seem not to care, you won’t even get a simple apology smh
One of the worst locations in the area.
The people dont like to mind there business, and keep the comments and feelings to themselves!
A good gym with all necessary equipment but a horrible staff. They will hit you with every fee they can. They will claim their system cannot refund your fee. Be aware of what they can charge you and read through the contract entirely.
I have a two memberships one for me and one for my daughter my daughter is leaving for college so i when to cancel her membership and the manager tell me i have to pay her renewal with was due two days ago i ask him can he wave it he said no i think thats bad busy due to covid and i was in the hospital with food poison so i was not able get there two days early but rest a sure i did cancel my membership as well Anthony the manager did not care that he is losing two member of a long time HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
Trying this gym for the 4th days. I like everything so far. I hesitate to sign up cuz I have been trying many gyms with in 20 miles from my house and been disappointed, for different reasons. But this gym is making me feeling comfortable with their facility features, cleanliness, and friendly staff - I’m very close to deciding to join permanently. Thank you Crofton Gold’s Gym and your staff!
I had an extremely disheartening encounter with one of the employees in the womens locker room. The employee felt that it was okay to place a tampon box full of feces on the sink countertop where I had my personal belongings, and where many other female guests place their personal items on as well. When I asked to speak to the GM he has not at all apologetic and dismissed it as a training and coaching issue. However, I do not see how it is not common sense for things like this not to occur, especially given how highly unsanitary this is for all guests. i am highly disappointed with how the situation was handled and with the overall disregard of the management.
I have had nothing but an enjoyable experience every time I walk into this gym, its clean, they have great equipment for beginners and the pros, and it is a great environment to work out in. I signed up about a month and a half ago and its been the best money ever spent. Huge shout out to the staff there for being so friendly and so helpful especially Taylor and the new night shift team.
Wow! The number of one star reviews from this place is sickening. I wish I had checked the reviews prior to signing up to this gym. It is interesting how all of management is very busy when you have an issue to take up with them.In response to the response: I have already called and asked to speak with the GM several times however each time I was told that the GM was extremely busy. I was even told that I would receive a call back which, as expected, never happened.
Edit:I think there have been some changes in management that make for a much better environment. I really like how you can listen to any TV from an app on your phone. The new equipment is also pretty awesome. There are still times when I disagree with what is being shown on the TV, but I can usually get a staff member to help. One note, on days when management is not around, the staff is very limited in what they can do. For instance, if the music in the building stops, they have no way of fixing it and are not inclined to call anyone to include management to get it fixed.
Is good
I really liked it there and the management did seem to try to improve customer service but my breaking point was the equipment hoarding that led to complete elimination of anywhere to stretch or do a sit up or absolutely anything but use equipment. They say you can use empty class rooms to stretch but thats only an option if you go off peak hours. I miss it there. Too bad. 😔Update:Thank you for the reply. I will certainly return if that happens 😊
Last Tuesday night I joined my sister for step aerobics. The aerobics instructor of was rude and her class was a BORING! Richard Simmons sweating to the oldies is a better step aerobics class than this. It was a waste of time and we both walked out. I gym is clean and well kept, but theres no parking.
So I have had a membership at this gym for over a year. I went to cancel my membership and the man I dealt with was very rude. He kept trying to convince me into keeping my membership. As a college student that doesnt have a lot of money, I needed to cut costs somewhere, and I can workout at home or outside so I dont really need a membership. I tried to say that in a nice way to him, and he told me that I was still within my plan so I couldnt cancel.I then went back in when my membership was up and I dealt with the same man unfortunately and when I told him that I didnt want to downgrade my membership, I just wanted to cancel, he fired back with saying you will be back here soon, and the only difference will be that youll be 20 pounds heavier. I was absolutely disgusted that someone would have the nerve to speak to a customer like that.Personally, dont waste your money. You could take the money and invest it in cleaner food or a better grocery store. I will not go back here, and I hope that worker learns to talk to customers better.
Great experience having 3 kids is not always easy workout but with the daycare I can go without worry the staff is wonderful always nice and happy to see my kids thx for all your hard work
Do NOT get a membership here. The gym itself is fine, but the employees who sign you up lie to you, and when you try and fix it, the manager avoids you. They have charged an additional $49.97 and I have another ~$72 that they say that I owe. They also use a third party for billing that refers you to a manager who apparently is never there.
Bad costumer service. Ive tried to cancel my membership 4 times and always get the run around (the one person I need to talk to is always conveniently on lunch or break). When I call in Jess K says shell have someone call me back or return my emails, this has yet to happen. They require an in person appointment to cancel a membership for liability reasons. Seems like they just want to keep charging you even if youve moved out of the area and no longer use their facility.
BEWAREI endured the worst customer service over a disputed charge. The general manager himself says to me, “I’m the general manager, there’s no one else to report to, and I’m not going in circles with you. I’m actually very busy today.” And he HUNG UP on me.I paid for TWO memberships for me and my choreographer to rehearse, was in an accident and cancelled BOTH memberships, including BOTH agreement numbers on the letter they told me to write. Instead, they only canceled ONE and refuse to issue a refund.Miscommunications are natural but to be so rude is unacceptable.BEWARE
I switched from LA fitness and really wish I hadnt. While theres more treadmills and cardio equipment than LA, the gym if filthy. Dust everywhere, and bathrooms are never clean. Both the front desk staff and managers could care less about member satisfaction. Im leaving the area, and very happy to be leaving the gym as well.
They stopped allowing me to bring a guest and its written in my contract that I can. They told me in January before covid it was because they were changing their policy so a single guest could only come so many times, now theyre saying its because of covid. When my guest tried to sign up for the basic membership he was told he can only sign up for the higher tier membership at this time. Theyre shady and its probably because of how much money theyre losing, but theyre going to keep losing if they keep treating customers like this
Ive been a member of Golds Gym in Crofton since 2011, and I think its one of the best gyms in the area. Yes, its true that at certain times the gym is crowded, usually around 5 pm when people visit after work, but even during those times I have never had trouble finding a piece of equipment to work on. I have tried other gyms in the area, but have always cancelled my membership at those gyms to come back to Golds. I tried LA Fitness because they have a pool. Their weight training equipment was okay but to me the elliptical equipment felt dated. Same with Planet Fitness, not a great variety of equipment, and equipment also felt dated. By contrast Golds has a great variety of equipment (Arc Trainers, Gliders, multiple types of treadmills, row machines, Jacobs Ladder, Esspresso Bikes, Spin Bikes etc.) with many being new and in good working order. Golds seems to always be brining in newer and better equipment. The reason for the five stars is because they have improved the locker rooms. (Would have only given 3 or 4 stars in the past because of this) The locker rooms use to be carpeted and the carpets I guess trapped bacteria and always smelled. (That was my biggest pet peeve in the past) The gym has now removed all the carpets in the locker rooms and repalced them with tile which has eliminated the odor problems. As far as other commentators that say that they never see anyone clean the locker rooms, thats not true, I almost always see someone mopping and wiping down the mens locker room. Bottom line is there is nothing wrong with this gym. If its crowded at times its because its a great gym with great equipment. Thats why its so popular. I have tried four gyms in the area. Dont care for LA Fitness or Planet Fitness. The YMCA in Arnold is nice but too far for me to use regularly. To me this is the best gym in the Crofton area and wont be switching back to any other gym.
Update: I changed my review from 4 to 5 stars. They just updated all the equipment and added a squat rack.
The size and equipment arent bad. I usually go at like 6 am so its not too crowded then, though when Ive tried to go later in the day its pretty crowded and sometimes hard to get the equipment you want.My big gripe is that after my wife and I quit, they dont count it effective for over a month so they hit us with an annual fee, and monthly fees after quitting. Our contract was up so being charged another $100 just to walk away is unacceptable. This was after having to go there in person and wait like 25 minutes to talk to someone to quit.Im sure I will join a gym again, it wont be a Golds.
Truly a golds. Happy to see they are expanding.
Equipment here are great, except for the people. Yes it is $30 per month, here is the catch they make you pay $40 for Yearly Fees. I feel that they are not being honest with customers that has financial troubles.
What happened the the speed bag?
My favorite gym
I have been pleased with my membership. I have a great rate, can drop the kids off while I work out when school is out, a definite plus with the snow. I also enjoy the cardio cinema, Womens workout room and the ability to access multiple gyms nearby. Overall I am pleased with the service and the value. Even if I only use the gym once a month its worth it!
DO NOT SIGN UP HERE.This has to be the worst gym Ive ever been to. Being intimidated and bullied by other gym-goers, hogging multiple pieces of equipment at a time, desk staff that try to pressure you into signing long-term contracts, old equipment that needs to be updated. Do yourself a favor and sign up at the Glen Burnie location- it is MUCH friendlier and cleaner.
My gym!.
Its an ok gym. I like taking the classes but other than that it offers most of the same amenities as other gym offer.
Terrible customer service. Canceling a membership is very hard to do. I have not been to this gym in over a year and a half and paid for it ever month. Total waste of 30$ a month. I recommend never joining gold gym.
I just moved here from Florida and I was a member at LA fitness and was thinking about trying Golds out. I looked online and saw that there was a free 7 day VIP pass that I could use. I went in to inquire about it and was IMMEDIATELY turned down when I mentioned it to the guy who was helping me. The guy who was helping me told me I had to sign up to be able to use the FREE 7 day VIP pass.... Why would anyone have to pay money to use a FREE pass.... He was rude and not helpful at all I tried to show him that it didnt say anything about having to sign up for a membership but he kept telling me that I was wrong. I will never go back there and ended up stay at the best gym around LA FITNESS!!!!! Golds you need to hire people who are personable and not rude to new people who are thinking about joining your gym.
Went to try one day pass and told me I had to me 18 which the pass never said
I tried to get the 7 days pass to try the gym at the end of February. But the salesman talked me into getting membership because it was cheaper before the end of the month and that I could cancel any time. I worked out for about two weeks and went back today to cancel my membership since I had to suddenly move out of state. While I was waiting for help a lady greeted me and asked me how she could help me, I let her know I wanted to cancel my membership and inmidiatly someone else that was sitting inside the office asked me why?I gave her my ID and it took her at least 5 to 10 minutes to find me. She had to walk away from office to the front desk to find my info. After a while she came back with I guess the termination of contract paperwork. I asked her how many days did I have to work out and she said: you are getting billed in the beginning of this month and your memebership will be cancelled on April 28. I asked why? This lady put her hands on the desk stood up from the chair and on a really high tone said: am the general manager and am telling you thats how it works!!. To what I responded while in shock of her reaccion and lack of professionalism I don’t care who you are all am asking are questions regarding my account because I was told something different. She said: come with me who told you that!? Alex!? Ok so he let him deal with the situation, and put the paperwork on his desk, got his attention and left. I asked him about what he told me when I was signing in, about cancelling any time; and he went completely in a defensive mood. Loud Saying I never told you that, I told you 30 days after you cancel!. At this point am aggravated at the lack of professionalism and the way I was treated. So I said you know what whatever is only 20 bucks, he went thru my billing cicle information and said: see, your service fee will hit on April but I will not even charge you that because is not fair for you to pay it if you justcancelled.Horrible experiense, specially from management so not really surprised about other employes. Now am not a fool, and if I havent been at the gym for over a month why would I wait until the end so I can get charged again? I was given the wrong information just so they can make the sale.Could anyone please make sure that service fee doesnt get charge to me and that is not another lie? Anyone other than the rude general manager.Wish I read the reviews about this GYM before I signed in.
I got a free pass to test this gym out, 24 hours being ideal because i work night shift, and from entering the staff was extremely rude. They bad mouthed management in front of me and were extremely rude and unprofessional from the get-go. When i finally saw equipment i was displeased how POORLY maintained and organized it was. Different cable attachments thrown all over floor and dumbbells in no logical order and even just laying around. I never rushed a workout so quickly just to get out and when i attempted to leave the front desk misplaced my license and took 10 minutes to find it. Overall, terrible staffing (at night at least), dirty EXTREMELY dated equipmemt and by far the worst experience ive had at a gym. Do NOT sign up without checking it out first.
Ok, first of all...I dont even know where to start. Ive lived all over. NY for 5 years, Philly for a little less than a year, and Annapolis. Ive been in a million gyms. I walked in and loved the look of the gym. Because it looks like a real gym! Not a middle age house wife Lululemon wearing stuffy joint where you feel like your not up to par for not having $80 yoga pants. Its amazing, its huge, it has everything you need! Zero gravity yoga, decent tanning beds, a womens section, cycling room, an empty room you can use if you get a little anxious with crowds. Log in for class on the monitor at the entrance! Omg, you know what a yoga and/or tanning package costs monthly?!The customer service is amazing, Alex Ebel made my fiance and my day! Go in there and ask for him. Hes a true professional, knowledgeable and savvy. The GM is a lovely woman who came in and gave us free shirts. Wow. I work in sales, A+++. Ill be referring all my friends! 👌👌👌
Its a nice gym. They have heavy stuff you can pick up.
I took over my son membership about 5 months ago since he signed 1 year contract custumer service is poor, so I showed up the first time and no one offer to showed me the facilities or how to used the equipment. the contract has expired but they still charged me for another month I will call next week and hopefully they wont give me crap about it, I am disappointed all they care about is taking your money .Amanda E
Many GYMs exist in the DC-MD-VA area I am a SECRET SHOPPER, + AN active member of the ASA, it is what turned into NSA! Even with a Discount including psblty of Mlty Discount, avoid Golds Gym. The equipment appears to be dated and mostly in need of repair, the PERSONNEL seem to be willing but Management, told me yesterday 31JUL18-TU, They did not want me there, i.e. due to a incident over 365 days old, claiming the FALL and associated injuries that I suffered could NOT be verified by their internal sources, including personnel and CAMERAs, I rqstd to speak to a Mgr. was told to LEAVE or else!!!Pfun der 15:18/1aug18-WE
VERY UNINVITING.I MYSELF AND6OF MY FELLOW GYM MATES LEFT GOLDS BC OF THE DIRTY AND HORRIBLY UNSANITARY EQUIPMENT AND I WONT EVEN GET STARTED ON THE NASTINESS OF THE RESTROOMS.HOWEVER,STAFF IS FANTASTIC.THEYRE ALWAYS EXTREMELY POLITE& ATTENTIVE
I give this Golds Gym location a bad rating due to outdated and poorly maintained equipment and the disregard to member needs. I have been going to this golds for 4 years. When I started going there they posted a sign saying they would get new equipment (inc. dumbbells, weights, and machines) and even mentioned new tvs. since then the only things to have been updated was a 70 flat screen in the front of the location, which no one can even see, and just recently painted the walls new colors. But yet for over a year the members have been using the same falling apart dumbbells, and the sorry this machine is broken sign has visited just about every machine in the place. But its not all just the physical issues of the gym that make me dislike this location, its also the people who go there, specifically the old men who stare at girls old enough to be their grand-daughters. Everyone should be able to workout in a comfortable environment and not have to worry about weirdos stalking you while your just trying to get a good leg workout. When you say something to the golds staff, nothing changes, maybe they dont want to come off wrong by falsely accusing someone without evidence, I can get that. But when you say something to the persons face and they act like they dont know what your talking about, mean while they are basically inhaling the air behind you while you walk, Golds should see that and say something. But hey, maybe thats an issue in every gym.Golds gym as a whole is one of the best gyms Ive ever been to, Ive even taken a trip to CA to get the original experience. Id hold Golds to the highest of standards since they have been one of americas signature gyms. It just sucks that I care about Golds more than the management at the crofton location does. Why have I been going to golds for so long even though I have many complaints? The lower level employees and the personal trainers are what keep me coming back. The talent on the personal training staff is unmatched in the area and the daily staff are personable and welcoming. Even though there company may not give them everything they need, they do a hell of a job with the resources they have.
Terrible customer service, Dirty gym. I moved out of the area and they are making me jump through hoops to cancel the membership.
Horrible customer service. I had to take my husband off of my membership and no one could ever help me, I got the run around for months. I finally got it cancelled and a month later was charged a $40 renewl fee for him. Ive gone in various times to address the issue and Ive called but the manager can never see me and I never receive a call back.
Extremely dirty bathrooms and I NEVER see any staff ever cleaning it. Some things are broken and run down and hasnt been fixed since Ive come back here. Worst thing is twice as many TVS are on CNN and only two small ones are on Fox News clearly showing political bias which is wrong (fyi there are signs recently put up stating TV channels can not be changed which we all know is bs). If I were you Id pick a different gym and as soon as my fiance gets back from deployment we are switching gyms as well.
Love the upgrades!
The 2 stars are for the poor upkeep of the restrooms and crappy Wi-Fi. Several days have passed and a used tampon is still in one shower stall and a gross wad of hair in another. And there is nothing more annoying than having ur music cut off several times while working out. The equipment is ok. If the above were fixed I would give them 4 stars
Took a lot of effort for me to get out of my contract. Wouldnt recommend coming here. Shady practices.
Incompetent staff, unable to change my account after two attempts so I cancelled and what do you know... They even messed that up and Im still being charged. Nice job guys, I guess that pump to your muscles is a blood loss to your brain.
