Caves reckless care cost my 2 beloved pets to have to be put down. 2 different times now. I now cant forgive myself for bringing them there but they are the only animal hospital in concord and I dont have a car. I then found out that VCA Capital Area Veterinary Emergency and Specialty was owned by the mars company. yes the company that makes candy bars and other numerous products this explains why they were asking and hounding us for money all the time we were there. the money was more of a concern to them then my pets health. they put more effort in bill collecting then in vet care. yes I had the money with me I even told them you can wait for your money when I passed the desk to go into the exam room and was asked if i was going to pay the bill when my dog wasnt even done yet. I was not allowed to even witness the care my pet was receiving all done behind closed doors in secret. we asked to see her and was told we could not go in back or even look through the window to see anything. if they had nothing to hide and are so transparent why dont they have a room with a window that you can observe the care they are providing to your pet. you just to have to take their word for everything they say. I like to see what I am being charged for. yes I was charged a huge bill but dont feel I was given my moneys worth in the care my pet received since it was all done out of my sight. and in the end I still had to put my pet down to add to there huge bill already. in fact my pet only took a turn for the worse AFTER I signed there bill then after they added euthanasia and cremation to that bill later. Never bring your beloved pet to this greedy money making business. mars corp. remember that. rude uncaring techs that are over confident and very under experienced. that dont get paid much.
Unfortunately my cat was very sick and I had to make the decision to euthanize him last night. I was calling so many emergency hospitals, vets etc. and none of them were helping me since I did not have the money upfront to treat my cat for what he had. I finally was able to talk to such a sweet and caring person over the phone here. Her name is Vivian (i think that is how you spell it) but she was so amazing and extremely helpful especially with the fact that she knew i didn’t have the money to help my baby boy. They took him in anyways because they didn’t want him in pain anymore. It did come to the part where euthanizing him was the best option at that point. They gave us enough time to say good bye to mr jack and we’re very sincere the whole time I was there. The doctor who gave him the shot was very nice as well. Thank you everyone who was there last night who comforted and helped us. And thank you especially to Vivian, you can tell she truly cares about your animals well being. Extremely thankful for her.
My one year-old Shepherd August used to love the vet he would walk in all confident and I would always get good feedback until we came to caves the lady that handled him was very obviously scared of him and would not go near him and was shaking. I am not sure what happened in there but when I got him back he was so scared and now when we go to the vet he hovers in fear at the door. I DO NOT RECOMMEND CAVES and never will after this experience.
My Hedgehog started having bloody discharge which is very concerning, and there really arent many Exotic vets in our area. I was a freaked out pet mom and got her to the vet as soon as i realized there was a problem. they got her in long before the quoted wait time, they were able to do a full exam and ultrasound on her (hedgie parents know theyre not always the easiest to work with) they got me out of there with medication and a referral to a new primary vet so i could get her a more thorough evaluation to determine if surgery was needed. they were fantastic with us, and even better with piggy, she left just as happy as she was when we came in, they handled her so well. Huge thank you to these ladies who helped my girl out❤️
Very nice people. We were given anappointment time on a weekend which was great. We got there, an hour drive they told us that they couldnt see our dog for 6 to 7 hours and theyd call us. Not trying to be rude, but why have us drive all the way there? So we got an appointment for the next morning somewhere else. Thank you anyway
Well I understand its an emergency room and some patients are more urgent than others. They made my 19 year old cat, who hadnt eaten in 4 days, wait 5 HOURS. Not only that but they made us wait 5 hours to tell us that shes dying. How is a dying cat not a higher priority?I know I cant see everything, but I saw dogs who looked happy, wagging their tails, and jumping around go in before my cat. This is the second time Ive been made to wait hours. My other cat ripped her claw off and was bleeding, but apparently that wasnt important either since she had to wait 4 hours.
I ended up at CAVES for my dog when I didnt hear back from my normal vet and spent 2.5 hours the night before at another emergency vet (with still another couple hours wait). Quite a few people on Facebook recommended CAVES to me. I only ended up waiting about an hour after they did the initial assessment - which gave me time to sit outside at their picnic table under a huge tree with my dog. From the time we walked in, everyone was really great. Very caring and took the time to explain what was going on with my dog. Unfortunately, he had thyroid cancer, and it was causing him to have a harder time breathing. He was 13.5 years old, so I made the tough decision to put him down. They gave me plenty of time with him and never made me feel rushed. They explained everything to me and gave me all the options. I would absolutely go back here in a heartbeat (although, hopefully I never have to :) ). They even sent me a really nice sympathy card. Thank you for taking the time to care for my dog. It means more than you know.
I was referred by our primary vet because they specialize in the type of surgery that was required to treat urinary tract obstruction in dogs. The staff was expecting us and got us in immediately. What they may find was explained as well as the procedures they may need to take. ROSCOE was in surgery that afternoon. The staff was professional and responsive- sending text updates during his stay. Thank you to the staff and doctors that treated ROSCOE. He is back to his energetic strong self and cant wait to get off his leash walks.
Recently brought our sick cat in. Staff was awesome in diagnosing and giving us our options. Due to his age and not wanting him to continue to suffer we ended up having to put him down. The whole time the staff was amazing, didn’t rush us in the slightest and let us enjoy our last few moments with our precious pet. I appreciate everything they did and would definitely recommend to anyone
I will not be able to say enough great things about Dr. Del Grosso and the staff that worked 8/30 & 8/31 and put up with Lena & Crazy Lena Mom. Thank you for taking my 5:30 AM call that Friday and thank you for seeing her right away that morning and following up with her throughout the weekend. I brought Lena my golden in early on a Friday with a variety of symptoms and the staff took such great care of her (and me...) until there was a diagnosis but most importantly a plan to make her better!Within 48 hours Lena was back to her barky self and on the road to recovery. The one thing I want to point out is, even though this was an ER and they are obviously very busy, they followed up throughout the weekend to check up on Lena which brought a lot of comfort to me. They were able to see her right away, triage her right away, and the doctor came in within 20 minutes to tell me what would be happening.Overall expectations exceeded! Thank you VCA staff!
It was an incredibly hard day for my boyfriend and I. I brought our furbaby in to get checked and unfortunately they found cancer and she had to be put down. The staff was very knowledgeable and so caring and did everything they could to comfort me. the prices for care are amazing too. Would highly recommend
These people were awesome. We brought my cat in after he was hit by a car, and they did a great job repairing his injuries, and they were great with the humans, too! Explained everything very well and were calm and sympathetic and kind. Thank you!
I WOULD recommend this vet to everyone. They were very professional and very nice. The front desk was smiling and greeted me and my dog. The doctor and staff was open and very Thurrell about everything. The tech and the doctor took there time and didn’t rush and they listened to my concerns and made me feel comfortable. I drove an hour and half to get to them and would do it again.Sending you all a big thank you ❤️
Its Labor Day weekend and my dog is injured and bleeding. I have already tried 5 other veterinary hospitals nearer to me with the same response at each. We are full to capacity we cant help you. I drove an hour away to VCA with the assurance that they would at the very least triage my dog and go from there. Everyone was wonderful from the woman on the phone to the triage nurse. . when it was time to leave I was reassured Nala my dog would be ok and I can honestly say Im putting their phone number down for emergencies. This veterinary hospital is exceptional amazing.
Incredibly compassionate. Took us in immediately when nobody else could. Found out our beloved cat has end stage cancer- they have been completely on board with our wishes to keep her comfortable with medication and let her pass at home. We couldnt be more grateful for their help during this immensely difficult time.
We brought our dog in as he was suddenly vomiting and urinating in the house, which he has never done in 8 years. He stopped eating the morning, but was still drinking. When I brought him in, he was sitting up, alert, and still able to walk, but he was not feeling well. Dr. DelGrosso called me once he was inside to tell me he was in DKA due to diabetes, and needed to be in ICU for 3 days in order to try and save his life, and that he would need 2 insulin shots twice daily for the rest of his life after his stay. We were ok with that. He said the treatment would be between $2,000 - $3,000, and we agreed to pay that, but we could give the a check dated for the 1st of December as we just had massive repair bills in the beginning of November on our home, and my 90 year old mother fell so she came to live with us on an emergency situation so we had to purchase a special bed, chair, walker and wheelchair in order to get her set up quickly, but we would have the money definitely on the 1st with our direct deposits. Then, I get a phone call from a lady in the office who now states they need me to sign an estimate for $4,400 to $5,400, and I could not understand the double amount which the doctor quoted. I explained our financial situation, but we would have the money on the 1st. I asked if they had given our dog water or any treatment yet, and she told me they would not start treatment unless we paid first. I was stunned. He was at the hospital for 6 hours, and she told me they did not start treatment due to MONEY. This woman called me back several times to tell me to start a GOFUNDME, call family and ask them to call them with a credit card, or call the spca or alllied animals, and just kept telling me GET THE MONEY THIS WAY OR THAT WAY. I could to believe what I was hearing. We would have the money on the first, please save our pet. They refused to start treatment. It was all about immediate money. I contacted our local vet, and brought him right over, however, had to write a check to this place for $577.55, and they allowed me to date it for the 1st. Why would they not allow me to date a check which most likely would have saved his life, yet, they would not let me leave without giving them the $577 check. I immediately brought him over the our local vet, and they assessed him, gave him fluid and sent us home with antibiotics, and to come back in the morning. We went back, and not our little Moose stopped drinking too. We were given insulin and sodium chloride, antibiotics, nutrition to take home, and we diligently treated him throughout the night, brought him back to the local vet in the morning, and they gave him fluids again during the day, but when we went back last night to hopefully take him home, it was too late. He was in failure, labored breathing and he deteriorated so quickly. We had to put him down as he would not have survived a matter of hours. He was a very special part of our family, extremely well behaved, loving, friendly and sweet. We are devastated that CAVES would not treat him. He needed to be in ICU for at least 2 or 3 days to save him. When MONEY becomes priority over saving a pets life, then you are no longer considered legitimate to us. There was never any compassion or empathy when dealing with anyone from this facility. It seemed more robotic and ONLY CARING ABOUT MONEY. Every phone all back to me was about MONEY needed for his care. I kept telling them we would have the money in 7 days. They would not, saying they have protocol. When it comes to an animal needing 24 hour care, which we could not have gotten at any local vet, then they should have treated him. I never said we would not have the money, I made it very clear, we would have the money needed to save him in 5 days as we have direct deposits which come in on the 1st of the month. Shame on you CAVES. In our eyes, you are a lousy facility which played a big part in the loss of our beloved pet. They suggested euthanizing. Disgusting display of greed & money hungry people running this place.
I would give less stars if possible, it is now 1310 and we are leaving the parking lot with nothing but a fecal exam for parvo which we already had let them know was done by the breeder and a vet prior to this visit. This would not have infuriating if we had ANY other tests since pulling in at 945 or any sort of communication about the delay being this severe however after multiple phone calls spaced over an hour out each time I decided to go in to gather some sort of ETA and all I got was do I think it will be within the hour “probably not” with NO EMPATHY NO UNDERSTANDING NO COMPASSION. I seriously will never refer a single soul to this place for how unreasonably unprofessional and unreliable they were and now will be taking my puppy to a different urgent care.
Brought our 15 year old dog Wyatt that was having complications. Very thorough diagnosis and exploration of all options. Explained everything in relatable terms.
We are new to NH and brought our mastiff here after his first seizure. They were great to work with, very patient with a large breed and very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend!!
Im very disappointed with how things were handled here,I brought my cat Hope in as she had not been eating or drinking and the vet had told me to bring her here for further workup. When I got there they told me she had Hepatic Lipidosis and stones. They said they wanted to keep her overnight but wanted the 1,800 dollars up front and they dont accept payment plans so it had to go on this care credit this is really unreasonable considering they couldnt really do anything for her accept give her fluids. Furthermore when they sent her home a day later, they gave me an appetite stimulant which did not work for her. Then they gave me another stimulant to try that also did not work for her. I called and they suggested a feeding tube, in which I told them I was hesitant about because she looked Miserable, Lethargic, Low of energy, She was already Jaundice and she did not seem well at all and would not eat or drink anything at this point for 2 days.I said I was considering ethunaization as an option because she seemed in a lot of pain and did not seem like she was gonna make it. They told me on the phone that I might suggest rehoming her so someone who could put all the money up front for the feeding tube so she could get it, this comment made me second-guess myself because the person on the phone said that it was a Fixable problem and could be cured if she didnt have an underlying issue. Then on the phone the second time she changed her wording saying she couldnt say it could be cured at this point it didnt matter that was said cause she had already told me it was fixable, she ended up getting the tube, I was told that she was having trouble waking up from the sedation then told when she woke up I would get a call from the doctor, never did I only was called when it was time to pick her up and they told me they were going to give her the first feeding hours before I picked her up to check if shed tolerate it well. When I got to the hospital the nurse showed me how to administer stuff through the tube said they were going to show me how to put food through it I was confused when they told me she had not had a first feeding yet when I was specifically told they had to rush off the phone cause they were going to do her first feeding when they got off the phone, I asked the vet tech about this and she said they forgot and she never got her first feeding and she didnt know why, they also tried saying she was hydrating herself well, she was not when I got home with her she wouldnt even go near her water bowl. The next day she was throwing up, having Diarrhea, could not keep the food down, was in so much pain that she couldnt make it to her litter box so she was having pee accidents, her pain meds were not helping her, she was lethargic, jaundice. she wasnt interested in doing anything it seemed as if the tube had set her back even further. At this point she looked awful her furr was also matted. So I went with my original decision as it seemed like the nicest thing to do for her at that point and put her down. It was super painful. Making it more painful as we walked out of the vet after she was put down, 5 minutes just driving out of the parking lot of VCA a Tech person called me about paying the cost of her Euthanization. Also when she went in for another night when I brought her to get the Tube, they had me pay 600 dollars for the night she stayed there, and we had 500 more the next day put on the care credit which brought our bill to 2,419 dollars, when they even forgot to feed her. From what I felt from this place it seemed all they really cared about was the money. I miss my Hope so much she was in so much pain. I was very disappointed and I will not bring my other cat here if she ever gets sick.
Our senior dog suddenly experienced grand mal seizures one morning, CAVES was so supportive and sympathetic when we called to bring him in so they could help him pass. I was unable to go inside due to a recent COVID-19 exposure but I felt comfortable with his staff taking him. They were very sweet, gentle, and caring with him. Thank you for being there for Gonzo in his last moments.
My dog had an emergency medical event last week and my experience at the VCA was horrendous. I called my primary care vet and she asked me to take my dog to the ER because he was having a severe allergic reaction. We arrived at VCA, answered a few questions in triage, and were told to wait for about 2 hours. After 2 hours passed, I kept asking the staff if there was anything they could do for my dog in the interim, if they had updates on the timing, etc. but I was met with rude, condescending, and generally sour responses. After 4.5 hours without any medical attention, I called my primary care vet in tears after watching my dogs allergic reaction (swelling of the face) progress. She stayed late and kept her clinic open late so my dog could receive the care that he needed that day. VCA failed us tremendously and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
My dog got porcupine quills in her snout today. I was seen immediately and the vet tech was able to remove them quickly and provided great advise on how to remove them myself in the future. What a great place! I couldn’t be happier with the people 😊 and the service!
My experience with the Speciality portion of CAVES has been really frustrating, in that the level of care has been exceptional and impressive (and Im grateful), however the lack of definition between Specialty staff and ER staff (Im led to believe) means quick check-in visits quickly become all-day affairs when an emergency comes in to the building and your vet gets pulled in.Since we are in a pandemic, and youre not allowed in with your animal, that means hours-long waits in your vehicle in the parking lot, with little-to-no updates, and a stressed-out pet in a scary place. Not ideal for anyone.I am so deeply grateful for the ER services, however - weve used them many times on a weekend or in a true emergency, and they have been incomparable. I am so appreciative this service is available. It is really hard to align these two aspects of my experience. While the long, quiet waits are ultimately worth it if youre there to see a specialist, there has to be a better way?
Very very poor communication. I understand its an ER, you cant expect an exact time of when you will be seen BUT is it too much to ask to be kept in the loop?Originally told and an hour as one dog was ahead of me and you never know with emergency rooms....2 hours later, somehow theres still one dog ahead of me....3 hours same thing....4 hours same thing... in all this time Im watching the door and cars, and only a 2 times I saw (from a pedestrians view) what appeared to be emergencies, where the individuals were in and out quickly... if there were 3 doctors on staff AND nurses... idk this may just doesnt add up that I was continually 1 person ahead of me.after 4 hours I call another emergency vet (South New Hampshire in Manchester). They communicated very well and kept me updated with what was going on.I understand the staff is working, see a bunch of pups, and they dont worry about my dog as much as I do; but I dont know why they cant do me the respect of understanding that to me (an unknowing pedestrian) Im VERG stressed out about my dogs situation and give me more information.
My husband and I moved to NH only 2 weeks ago. Tonight at 6pm, both— YES, BOTH— of our dogs got a porcupine. We were in a panic because we didn’t even have a local vet yet, most clinics were closed, and we had no clue where to bring the fur babies. We called our next door neighbor who recommended CAVES, so that’s where we went. They were so, so nice and incredibly professional. We thought we might have to wait for a while for the girls to get in especially because of COVID protocols but the staff brought them in right away. They received great care and came back out quickly, a little drunk from the anesthesia, but quill free. Obviously we hope we don’t have to go back, but if we find ourselves with another pet emergency that’s definitely where we’re headed!
The staff was fabulous and very comforting for my sweet Jade and myself.
Took my 16 year old cat Lola in today..5/31/21... to be put to sleep. Everyone from the woman that answered the phone to the Dr who put her to sleep were so companionate and it made a difficult day a little easier. Thank you for that!
If I could give 0 starts I would I live an hour away and they wouldnt advise me on how to help my pet that was on the verge of death at all if they cared about animals they would try but they cant take the time to be bothered Chriminals if ya ask meYou have to
I live in Berlin NH 2 hours north of Concord and couldn’t find any vet (including my lifetime vet in Lancaster NH) to assess my 13 year old English Springer Spaniel Abby, even after I told them it was an emergency and she seemed to be suffering from a stroke. I called VCA and without hesitation the woman on the phone told me to hang up and immediately put my dog in my vehicle and call them on my way there with more information so I didn’t waste any time. We were met at the front door of VCA by caring and compassionate staff within minutes after arriving. They called me with several updates while she was examined by a doctor, as I waited outside with my wife (Due to COVID). Unfortunately the sad but right decision had to be made and VCA made the process very smooth and comforting. We were brought inside and walked through everything and assisted by a nurse and doctor that was extremely compassionate, caring, and professional. We were able to spend the last few minutes of my dogs life with her, with a sense of calm and comfort. VCA staff, I cannot thank you enough for making an experience that I’ve always dreaded, just a little easier. I was also taken back by how fair the final cost of everything was. Thank you again VCA staff.
I just had my black lab at CAVES. She was critically ill. The staff was absolutely fabulous! I cannot say enough good things about Dr Butterworth. From the moment she stepped into the exam room, she showed extreme empathy. Her professional, calm, quiet demeanor was very reassuring. She tried to balance providing exceptional veterinary care with recognizing our need for watching the costs of Izzie’s care. She did that with empathy, and she treated our dog with such compassion.Unfortunately, our dog did not survive, but while we were with her at the end of her life, the techs were so wonderful with Izzie and with us. Again, Dr Butterworth was there and was so sweet. She had such a gentle touch with Izz, and she tended to our emotional needs.I highly recommend CAVES.
CAVES was fantastic with my very sick cat. They were quick to take him in and thorough with their review. They answered my many questions with professionalism and consideration of my feelings about my treasured pet. He clearly received excellent care based on how he was when they brought him back to me. They sent me regular texts of how he was doing. In addition, they worked with me to determine a care plan that I could afford and actually charged me $300 less than the estimate because he did not need certain treatment. They could have easily said the extra medication was needed and I would have paid it but they did not. They are honest and excellent health care providers. Thank you very much CAVES for your excellent care for my Cookie!
We are beyond satisfied with the care our animals have gotten during the pandemic. We have not been able to get into our regular vet and CAVES has been prompt, responsive and professional. Thank you for treating our family with love and knowledge. The staff is the nicest group of professionals we have met!
The worse ps vet said they won’t stitch my dogs ear there just going to leave him bleeding DO NOT USE THEM
I just want to give a big big shout out to Linda I think is her name. Thank you so so much for taking such great care of Mr Grey Im sure hes smiling down on us now Im no more pain. Again thank you so so much Linda I dont think Ill ever be able to thank you for how much you helped me keep up the great work!!!!
We brought our beautiful, sweet pet silkie chicken in after being attacked by a hawk. The Vet told us there was nothing they could do and to put her down. Not only that, he said that Even a chicken specialist cant fix her. but gave us no real reason why. Just saying that infection could get her. We decided that we did not like that answer and brought her home. Kept her hydrated and gave her lots of vitamins. electrolytes and aspirin until we could get her to a real Vet. They have saved her in a couple days but she went through a lot of unnecessary pain because of this terrible place. If you love your pet. DO NOT bring them here.
One month ago I had to put down my 13 year old golden retriever. She was my first dog so it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I just moved to the area as I am going through a divorce and had a friend recommend this place. The staff was so caring and it made the process a little easier. They provided a blanket we put on the grass outside and my baby girl went to sleep forever peacefully. Thank you to all the wonderful staff.
On March 29th my husband brought Jax in because he was bleeding from his mouth, my husband showed the person the picture and she was rude and could have cared less. Instead she thought it was more pertinent to take xrays of Jaxs leg, and sent my husband home with meds (that he did not need). My husband asked if they looked in Jaxs mouth and they said that was part of the exam. When I arrived home at 3:30 pm on March 29th Jax was still bleeding from his mouth. I sent an email with a picture stating what was happening and no response. So I brought him back and I was told he had to stay overnight to be monitored. I asked if his mouth was checked and I was told yes.On March 30th I received a call from a Dr. who had no idea what was wrong with Jax and made me believe he may have a bleeding disorder. 15 minutes later I received a call that Jax had a 8mm cut under his tongue and needed stitches. Considering this was the second time he was under anesthesia/sedative it is obvious that the first Dr. did not check Jaxs mouth. We have already paid WAY too much for stitches for an 8mm cut.We will NEVER go to this VCA or any VCA again. We have paid over 20,000 between 4 dogs and surgery services at VSA and we are truly disgusted by the way we have been treated with this situation.
I was referred by another 24 hour Vet clinic that I called that unfortunately was unable to see the type of animal I was calling about. I called the emergency part of this place, as I was attempting to explain to her why I was even calling (I wasn’t even sure if it was something I should even be concerned about or if it was normal for a gecko) she cut me off, told me that they don’t give advice over the phone. I tried telling her I’m over an hour away, and I’m not even sure if I’m what I’m dealing with is just normal, or something to be concerned about. I was going to ask to speak to someone that knew geckos and could just tell me if it was worth even being seen at all. I was cut off again and she refused to listen to anything else I had to say so I just ended up saying never mind, then she said alright and hung up. Very unprofessional, clearly doesn’t seem to care, and just plain rude. Not sure if I just got the one ignorant lady that works there, but all in all wouldn’t recommend while she’s working.
The staff at CAVES were absolutely wonderful in helping us and our cat through a very difficult time. They were compassionate, thorough and professional. Despite a busy schedule, compounded by the logistics of working during the COVID-19 pandemic, they made time for us when our regular vet would not. Their follow up communications showed a level of concern for us that went above and beyond anything we expected from an emergency care facility. Its hard to express how grateful we are for the care they provided.
We have taken our Keeshond, Maxx, twice to CAVES. Once for a skin condition 3 years ago (Dr. Vogel) and last week for an ulcer on the cornea (Dr. Valario). Both times the outcome was positive, the doctors and techs were polite and informative and we came away happy. Are they a little more expensive? Yes, they are specialists! My wife and I spent more money for 3-4 visits to our regular vet then we did at CAVES in one visit. Thanks for taking care of Maxx, CAVES! Bill and Dee
I cant say enough good things about CAVES. My cat Kody was a patient 15 years ago as a kitten. I had just brought him home from a rescue agency and he ended up having a very severe respiratory infection. The Doctor and staff saved his life! Yesterday I had to return to CAVES with Kody as my regular vet was out of the office. Kody had been gradually having trouble eating and we had not been able to determine the cause. He took a rapid turn for the worse and when I took him to CAVES, Dr Capello examined him and was able to tell me what was going on. Unfortunately it was not treatable, but at least I had an answer. It made it easier to make that dreaded decision let him go in peace. Dr Capello and Erin were so kind and compassionate. Thank you so much!
We just took our cat Tigon here and we felt the staff was excellent. They were very caring and took their time explaining things. We would highly recommend them.
On Thursday, Feb 28th, I had to bring my cat Penny over to VCA because she had been experiencing some significant health issues that had escalated on that day. I got her over there (came from Keene NH an hour away) and was able to get her in and assessed quickly. We put together a plan to begin treatment. About halfway through the bloodwork and treatment, I got a call from the vet about her outlook; an enlarged kidney and a high red blood cell count, more than likely indicating advanced cancer. The vet was very upfront and honest with us....we could continue treatment, but we should consider that in the probable advanced state of the cancer, there was a very high probability of the treatment not working, her quality of life moving forward, etc. After my wife and I talked, we made the incredibly painful decision to euthanize our little Penny. From the moment I made the phone call to VCA until the moment I left several hours later, the staff was incredibly accommodating, empathic, understanding, and professional. They didnt beat around the bush, they were upfront with everything as it unfolded. In this difficult time with Covid, they made every effort to make this terrible situation as smooth as it possibly could be. And after that, several days later we received a sympathy card signed by the entire staff. A top notch organization that handled a horrible situation with class, empathy, and professionalism. THANK YOU VCA.
This has been the second time I have been to this overrated over charging veterinary hospital. Never again. Long wait times and then you find out they cant take your pet in for another 1+1/2 to 3 hours after already waiting an hour. You would think a courtesy call would be nice especially when they know you are out in the parking lot with a sick animal waiting for an appointment you made an hour before. There are other alternatives, never going back here again - EVER !
We took our 5 year old dog in because of distressed breathing and vomiting. We talked to them on the way to the hospital and gave them all of our information and what was going on with Buddy. As instructed, we called them from the parking lot to let them know we had arrived. I had to tell them again, what was going on with Buddy. They sounded concerned and assured us they would call us back in 10-15 minutes to have us bring him to the gate. We kept checking Buddy, and he seemed to be feeling better. After an hour and 20 minutes, we left and brought him home. We will follow up with his regular Vet tomorrow. It was exactly 2 hours and 1 minute when they finally called us to bring him to the gate. We could have taken him to Meredith ER, had him treated, and be half way home in that time. Sorry CAVES, never again. I will never recommend you.
I would give this place a half a star if I could. I will say that the people I dealt with over the phone (which is how business is conducted there now due to Covid) were all very pleasant. But otherwise I have some issues...We arrived at 8:45. Our cat was seen as a matter of triage soon after. Then we waited for 3 hours. I get it. Theyre busy. Thats not my beef after a 5 hour ordeal there today. We took him to a vet because he was in awful discomfort, had burrowed himself deep in a hidden spot for the night, and wasnt eating or drinking or seemingly wanting to live. Suddenly. From a perfectly healthy cat the afternoon before. My issue: Our cat presented with what to me appeared to be obviously oral/mouth pain. I described this to the vet (who I believe was. Dr Brittany Colbath, --at least thats the name on the drugs I was given upon Wilsons discharge.) The vet was unable to assess Wilson orally due to the fact that hes a cat in terrible pain, so sedation was called for. I agreed, of course. No use upsetting him and shredding the help. Then she suggested that should that not prove conclusive, that some X-rays would be necessary, since hed already be sedated. I agreed; that if the oral exam didnt show anything worthy, that yes, see about a possible obstruction. But I felt very sure it was in his mouth. The call back some time later was that there was no obstruction, airways and chest were clear but that he had some tartar and some gingivitis and a loose tooth.A what?A loose tooth. Needs extraction We dont do that here.Radiographs show that? No, of course not, thats my issue; I had to pay over $300 for the X-ray chunk of my bill, totaling just under $700. FOR A LOOSE TOOTH --that SHOULD have been revealed FIRST, at the time the oral exam, without the X-rays! Forget that Covid has put the brakes on our livelihoods, forget that were fixed incomers, all that. What has me steaming is the excessive abuse of Your Animal is in Need and Hes in Our Hands Now pricing/gouging that is perpetrated upon the vulnerable, worried pet owners. Shame on you! Ive worked with many vets around the country who apply their medical science in the obvious steps/protocol. Not just jack up the bill with unnecessary diagnostic workups.Of course we got a cute little bag of drugs to take home to show for our trip. A cardboard cat carrier box with a pee pad that cost us who knows how much... Never mind. Id suggest that if you need emergency vet work in your future, to go to Meredith, many happy clients I personally know have been there, or Manchester, also much better rated, or Lebanon. We chose this location for convenience from home. Not next time. Not ever again.
Two words: RIP OFF. I drove from Boston for an ultrasound that was supposed to be $429 all in. I was charged $634. Why? Because the technician couldnt see and had to drain my dogs bladder. They asked to authorize an additional $120 which I reluctantly agreed to --- but then they added $84 for an image consultation. The whole thing took one hour. I cant get over how they asked for this added money as though it was nothing -- and this was just to DIAGNOSE my dogs problem. They think money grows on trees -- money theyll take from you just like they took from me. Go elsewhere!
My mom just drove an hour in the middle of the night to get here after calling first for my cat, who has a life-threatening urinary blockage. When she got there they turned her away because they didnt have time right now and hes still peeing a little so clearly hes fine for now. Un-flipping-believable. Thats equivalent to showing up at an ER and getting turned away at the door for not bleeding enough. Skip this place and go straight to your next closest vet. Cant even believe this right now, my poor cat. Im so upset.
I read all of the negative comments and wanted to respond. We have had 4 dogs over the years and we have only used CAVES for real emergencies. In every case, our dogs were assessed immediately upon arrival and when our dog Guinness had bloat he was brought in immediately for surgery and survived. We use our regular vet for most situations and only use CAVES for those instances in which out vet isnt available and our animals need immediate care.Yes, CAVES is expensive but they are emergency care and are best used for emergencies only.We have also found every veterinarian to be caring of our animals during our visits there with hope of having never to return as that means one of our loved ones is sick and needs their services.
First, before I blast this place I will say their cardiologist and his team are phenomenal. We brought our Pit in because he wasnt feeling well. He was very weak and fell as my wife got him out and hurt his leg. She added an x-ray to the list of things to be done. They gave us an estimate of costs, just over $1100 which included the leg x-ray a 7.5 hr wait and finally seeing him said they didnt feel it was necessary. They were very concerned because he had a grossly enlarged heart and cardiomyopathy. We were given expensive heart meds and set up with an appointment for the cardiologist. The visit with tests, meds and no leg x-ray was almost $1600. A portion of this fee was to have the chest x-ray read by trained outsiders because they couldnt do it there. Meanwhile, the leg they said didnt need to be x-rayd because it was just bruised didnt seem to get better. We brought him back for cardiology and insisted on a leg x-ray...which they charged us for, along withan emergency room service charge??? Wasnt it part of our original estimate?? And now, to top it off, the Cardiologist informs us his heart isnt and never was enlarged, just an arithmia. So......why then, did we pay that fee for outside review?? And the enlarged heart medication? What made him sick and weak? The part they got right, a UTI! But we are now just about $3000.00 in and spent a long weekend considering the unfathomable prospect of having to put him down
I have used CAVES several times as I adopt older 4 legged fur babies . I have never had a bad interaction EVER! The most recent 2 days ago. From the receptionists to the techs to the vets, at each step, they were responsive and kind. Decisions are made with collaboration and inclusion of the owner at every step. They never try to sell me anything, listen to my input and help me at each step to make informed decisions. Cudos to your team! Just awesome care. Wish my health care providers would take a few lessons!
Not happy with their service one bit . Brought my pug in from having a seizure and they never even tried getting ahold of his vet to find out any information of him and about his tests that he had done. Never take my dog back there ever ....
I wasn’t going to write a review. Then I saw others’ and realized that my experience was not unique.WHAT A RIP OFF. On Saturday night I brought in a very sick cat. After 3 hours, examination, tests and $1200 there was no answer. They decided to treat my cat “symptomatically” and gave antibiotics and pain meds. The next day, after performing my own examination on my cat I found a large and infected cyst on my cats behind. Sounds like their examination was very thorough (eye roll). After bringing my cat to our family vet a few days later, where they did their own examination, I finally have an answer and real treatments for what is wrong.DO NOT waste your time and money at CAVES. God forbid there is another emergency, I’ll take my chances and make the drive to Manchester to an emergency vet I trust with my time and money.
My 9-week-old puppy was attacked by a Friends grown dog. My puppy received great care and is on then mend. I was really happy with the responsiveness of the team. I wasnt able to go in with my puppy (COVID-19). So, I really appreciated how they kept me updated as I waited outside. Im also happy the cost. It wasnt as bad as I expected.
I cannot speak to most of the services provided at this facility. My dog had knee surgery with Dr. Diamond. He is exceptional and my pets quality of life is greatly improved thanks to him and the surgical team. The service is expensive and it does require a deposit, but my primary vet made me aware of that up front so my personal experience has been great, and the results of the procedure has been better than I hoped.
My fur baby and foster fur baby accidentally got into some ibuprofen this past weekend and we took them to CAVES for help. The first visit was very helpful and informative while staying compassionate. We were feeling like awful dog parents and they didn’t judge us at all! The next night my fur baby started showing some very concerning signs so we brought her back and she ended up getting admitted for an acute kidney injury. From the get go, I felt like she was in the best hands possible but as the days went by, that feeling solidified. I received photos and texts as if it were my fur baby Remy texting me first thing in the morning and a call late morning and evening each day she was there. Tonight she is home and on the mend which seems to be a miracle compared to how she was looking at the beginning! I’ll be forever grateful for them supporting my baby girl and getting her better so she could continue to be the light of my life.
Went here because my poor rat remy was sick and in the name it said specialty and exotic animal. Had to wait 3 hours for them to tell me they don’t know what’s wrong with him and that they mostly only do cats and dogs. Like why call it vca specialty and exotic animals if you don’t do specialty and exotic animals? So they told me that they could run some test (expensive), they could give me some antibiotics and pain medicine and hoped he got better, or I could drive about an hour away to an actual specialty vet which would have been super expensive. So I took the medicine which at first they told me was gonna be around 210 but then I get another call and they said it was gonna be closer to 300 (like 290) because they used more medicine they they thought they were gonna need? Idk. I really wish I had said no and used that money to take him to a better vet but now I can’t really afford that. He’s still sick and I’m heart broken. I wish I had read the reviews on here because it’s clear that I’m not the only person who’s had a problem here. Overall don’t go here they don’t care about your pets they just want you’re money.Update: my poor rat pasted away not too long after this post.
I cant say enough about Caves and the staff...every time I have had to bring one of my dogs to Caves they have been very caring and knowledgeable. The last two trips were extremely traumatizing and everyone was so understanding, caring, and sympathetic. Thank you to ALL of you, its not easy losing loved ones, and I thank you for helping ease the process.
My cat had liver disease a few months ago and would not have survived without immediate critical care and getting a feeding tube put in. Caves did a wonderful job of caring for her and also of listening to what I had to say. She is now fully recovered and healthy and it was worth every penny. However, don’t expect it to be cheap. You’re going to have to pay quite a bit for this level of care but if you think your pet is more important than money this is the place to trust with them.
Love this place
Was out of town visiting family and my dog had a very bad allergic reaction around midnight. This was the only place I could find so I headed on over, I was very impressed with the whole operation. They took my dog in and gave me a phone call from the parking lot to explain what was going on and what my options were. Left with a happy and less itchy dog, great experience all around.
My 12 yr old female purebred boxer fell on ice and injured a front ankle and back ankle 4 days ago. She was diagnosed with arthritis @ 11 so shes been a little fragile since. She couldnt even sit up or stand on her own after falling and I thought for sure this wasnt going to be a good outcome. I called here Xmas Eve morning and they said bring her in. I thought this would be our last ride together. That was the last thing on there mind. They put her on some meds & layed out an awesome plan to follow. I cant thank them all enough. Dr. DelGrosso is awesome. They all are. We came home together thanks to them. Merry Xmas from myself and Miss Bella Rose. 😄Bella Rose now... I couldnt be happier... Thank you all again so very much 😁 Well its taken some time to be able to sit down and tell people what happened at VCA and just how amazing all the people that work there truly are.As I said before, Bella had arthritis in her knees. After her fall prior to xmas VCA had her on an awesome med plan and she really was doing well. One morning in February when she didnt get up and come for her breakfast I knew she wasnt feeling well. Theres no question we know our pets. I walked out to her bed and said, honey arent you gonna come get your breakfast ? She picked up her sweet little head and looked at me with her big brown teardrop shaped eyes...... She let me read her mind. Daddy, I love you so so much I I will miss you terribly but we need to say goodbye. I layed down and cuddled her back to sleep and when I was able to stop crying enough to call a friend to caves I did. They took us directly in a wonderfully candlelit room with soft decor. They gave us all the time we needed and I never stopped holding her. Everything was so calm that she was able to stay calm. We said our goodbyes and some very nice prayers. The drs. Were absolutely wonderful. I cant say enough about there care, warmth, gentleness and love. At CVA they know what our pets mean to us and handle this beyond belief. I have so much guilt now built up in me thinking did she endure all the pain and suffering just to make me feel better. I break down and cry every day and tell her that Daddy is so sorry.. Our pets are priceless too us. Im not sure if this will ever go away or iif I want it too. I do know she is dearly missed by all that knew her. Time is so so short.... Dont forget that because theres is the blink of an eye...... Thank. You again CVA. Your a special crew. I know Bella loved you as do I..... She will be sadly missed.Jef & Sweet Miss BellaRoseI will post the last pictures I took of her......
Gotta be honest! Was not too impressed with the staff. My dog was going blind and was having other issues and we eventually had to put her down. Until I got direct contact with the outstanding Dr. Alario! Of omptamology the care for our dog seemed liked a transaction. He was outstanding in his communication and care for my dog! I give them 4 stars!!! Because he Carried the water for this emergency care center!
Our Vet recommended this Surgical center to do a surgery for Laryngeal Paralysis, which has the potential to kill a dog quickly if not treated. The Doctor, Melissa Dudley, was particularly experienced in this surgery. The entire experience was positive. She listened and explained everything at length. The surgery went without a hitch. Since then he has had no issues with difficulty breathing. He did lose his bark, which is not uncommon with the treatment. The price was high but not exorbitant considering he was under general anesthesia. (May I recommend Embrace Pet Insurance - having insurance makes it MUCH EASIER to make these needed and expensive decisions.) Although this is further from my home than other emergency vets, if time allowed, I would drive the extra miles to come here for other emergencies.
BEWARE, do not bring your beloved pet to this supposed ER hospital! We totally regret bringing our dear beloved dog Little Bear here. Prior to admitting him, he was alert, walking and breathing fine. The medical personnel misdiagnosed, mistreated, neglected, subjected him to unnecessary pain and suffering, surgery he hadnt needed upon admission, over-medicating him with pain and sedation drugs, all which ultimately resulting in his untimely death. His demise began with Dr. Courtney James misdiagnosing his condition and mistreatment starting with she and her technicians overinfusing him with IV fluids. This caused him to develop an excess accumulation of fluid in his chest. We later learned that the junior veterinarian on duty during the next shift, Dr. Sarah Capello, was only a few years out of college and didnt even graduate from an accredited veterinary school in the USA. Also, the A/C units were not functioning, servers were down which delayed diagnosing, and Dr. Cappello was the only doctor on the overnight shift. They dont have a full ultrasound device, CT scanner, or ICU, nor specialists on duty at all times, only a few days per month. After my husband suspected something was wrong, he demanded to be allowed in the back treatment rooms with our dog. He found Little Bear in extreme distress. He was left in a cage with his eyes closed, tongue hanging well out of his mouth and completely blue from lack of oxygen. His panting was extreme with his chest heaving as he struggled to take in enough oxygen and left to die. He realized what they had done to Little Bear and ordered the technician to administer oxygen to him immediately. My husband discovered Dr. Cappello doing nothing for him as she just sat in her office. He had also been over-medicated with pain meds and sedatives. He then had to endure a painful needle aspiration to remove the fluid subjecting him to what should have been unnecessary surgery. They also had not ensured that he had urinated. Instead they neglected him and he was forced to hold his urine for 18 hours. My husband questioned Dr. Cappello on the lack of treatment and care. She then told my husband, If you dont like the quality of care I am giving your dog you can take him to another hospital. He replied that he could not, he would surely die in transport! My husband had to watch Little Bear endure all of this horrible neglect and mistreatment, pain and suffering. After my husband had been awake for over 26 hours, the doctor and technician convinced him that Little Bear was stabilized. The technician suggested he get some rest and so he left. We received a call from Dr. Cappello an hour later that Little Bears heart stopped! We rushed back to the hospital but just before arriving, Dr. Cappello called to say that he had died and that she was leaving to go home! We insisted she stay and speak with us. We met in an exam room with her and the medical director. We asked her what she had done... Dr. Cappellos response was to smile...SMILE! No sympathy or apologies. They even had the audacity to charge us over $3,300 for this horrific treatment. We have filed a formal complaint before the New Hampshire Board of Veterinary Medicine. Our experience is that VCA CAVES is NOT the place to bring your beloved pet!!
Horrible!! Waited 4 hours after I called first. He wasnt seen that night. Wouldnt let my daughter bring my dog in because she is 16 and not 18. I gave her permission and called the next day to let them know that I was sending her with my dog. My dog was never seen by them the first night or the next day. He couldnt walk at all. HORRIBLE PET CARE for not seen my boy!!!
Took my cat in for an emergency because he had blood in his urine. The staff was extremely friendly, we were in an exam room within about 20 minutes and my cat was fully diagnosed within the hour. They came up with a treatment plan, at a very reasonable cost and gave me everything I would need. A couple of days later I recieved a text from someone at the office asking how my cat was. Very impressed with the level of care and professionalism from everyone that Ive dealt with!! Thank you all for taking care of my cat, he is back to normal thanks to you!!!
We took our 9 week old green cheek conure to Caves after he flew into a window. They were quick to diagnose and create a treatment plan. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We are convinced that if we didnt bring our bird to Caves, we would have lost him. Thank you again!
Dont bring you animals here. The staff is untrustworthy. They didnt call me to update me on my pet when giving it care, they only called me when it was ready go, pick them up and pay. My animals wound also got infected because they didnt give her antibiotics even though her wound was OPEN. Please find care elsewhere, they just want as much money out of you as possible.
I Woke up this morning to find my dog had gotten into the trash and was acting extremely strange lethargic wobbly and had the shakes I immediately took her to caves and was taken right into triage then proceeded to wait 3.5 hours before deciding to leave and go to a different vet and they never even called to say they were ready for her after 5 hours
Caves was there for my little dog Mrs. Toddie from start to finish. She got attacked and bitten by a big dog while I was walking her, and broke her shoulder and jaw. They took her right in, called and texted me often and were right there to help me after I took her home. Thank you Caves for saving my little dog!! ♥️♥️♥️
Just spent the last moments with my Grandpuppy there. They were kind and let us spend as much time as we needed not rushed b4 we put him down tonight. Such a terrible night but I was very impressed with the time table we needed not the Drs.
Huge shoutout to the staff! They were so caring and helpful when our puppy got a fishhook through her ear — We knew she was in good hands!!
All the comments and reviews about how the staff and doctors here are cold and unsympathetic are true. Rude, condescending, and with a complete lack of empathy all around. Also, after reading some of the positive reviews about all the people who were brought to a nice, peaceful, comfortable room to say goodbye to their babies makes me sick. We didn’t get anything of the sort. We were kept in the exam room and the doctor seemed like he couldn’t wait to get the needle in and get it over with.I know an emergency vet has to see this kind of sad and upsetting stuff all the time, but if you get to the point where you can’t even empathize with the overwhelming despair of a pet owner, maybe it’s time to chose a different profession.
My husband and I have taken two of our ferrets to CAVES in the past year. Both times, the staff were so caring and compassionate and did everything they could for our fur babies, even though they usually dont treat ferrets. We are so greatful for this, since both times our ferrets needed emergency care in the middle of the night and probably wouldnt have made it if we had waited until the next morning to call our vet. The first time we were there, a technician also referred us to Dr. Dutton, who is a highly-rated small companion animal specialist. We have been bringing all our ferrets to him ever since, and we couldnt be happier with the care we have received.
Ive had good interactions with them with urgent issues like allergic reactions to bee stings for my dog and burst surgical wound. They have fast and proficient triage response team. But, I had a bad experience with my cat who had a stroke (rather than provide basic care, they did lots of very expensive tests that they literally immediately dismissed the results of because the tests are unreliable?). So, mixed results. Id like to give a 3.5 but thats not an option. So going on the higher side because most recent visit was better than past experience.
Prices werent too outrageous. They didnt push unnecessary testing. It appeared to be really busy and didnt have to wait to horribly long. I would have given them 5 stars but but they didnt get my pets name completely right.
CAVES came to the rescue when my rabbit was suffering from GI Stasis. Well worth the hour drive, we were greeted immediately and provided with a treatment plan. Our visit and brief stay was pricey but was expected with a trip to the emergency veterinarian. We hope we dont have to return, but are relieved to know well be in capable hands if we do.
I’m posting this review on behalf of my Grandma, who can’t. Due to a family move, my family had to give our cat, Marissa, to my Grammy. Marissa was loved and well taken care of until one day she got out. A couple days later, my Grammy found Marissa by the patio hungry, tired, and in pain. My Gram took her to CAVES to get checked out and the doctor was unfriendly and barely looked at our cat. The wild part is he sent Marissa home! She could barely walk, had lost a lot of weight, and had a bladder infection and all the Doctor did was send my Grammy home with a suffering cat and a large bill, with my Grammy under the impression the pills she got would help our cat. They didn’t. Marissa would’ve been much better off being cared for at the hospital or honestly just put down which is what my Grammy ended up having to do. At least if they kept her at the hospital, performed thorough care, and watched over her Marissa may have had a chance. With how unemotional the vet was, according my Gram, you’d think he would’ve been honest and just told us to let Marissa go peacefully. But he saw a cash grab and prolonged our cats suffering. My Grammy soon after took Marissa back and made the hard choice to put her down and of course got charged another bill for that, even though it was directly influenced by the first visit. Why she even returned to CAVES I don’t know but she did and she left so unsatisfied with them she still tells people to avoid them at all costs, years after the fact. Do not bring your pet here. There are other, local or family owned animal hospitals and vets in NH that will care for your pets a lot more thoroughly than they do here.
I have absolutely nothing but amazing things to say about the staff here. The Vet Assistant/Tech was extremely understanding and compassionate towards my situation. The vet was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me in detail along with all our options. They didn’t push unnecessary tests and made me feel like they actually cared for my cat. I will definitely be recommending CAVES to anybody who is seeking emergency services.
My dog went after a Porcupine at midnight and everyone here went above and beyond to help me during that tough time. My dog is a rescue and can be very anxious and even aggressive in new situations. That didnt stop the awesome people at CAVES however, they made him as comfortable as possible and got the job done! We are forever grateful and could not reccomend this place enough!
If they have you hopes up about canine cataract removal and it being worth the expense, dont bother. It is a very expensive gamble and a lot to put a dearly loved elderly pet through. The odds of success are not what they sell you, and afterwards your dear pet has a greater chance of being far worse off than before you started. It was heartbreaking and we felt like we were sold false hope and false odds of success. Save yourself $5000.00 and take your loved family pet on a vacation or somewhere you know they enjoy. You will all be much happier.
Brought my dog Milo in after he collapsed out of nowhere. I had a really great experience at CAVES. Professional and pleasant staff and clean facility. They knew their stuff which made me feel comfortable with the decisions that were made for Milos care.
Horrible experience. Brought my English bulldog in because we believe he has a urinary tract infection or bladder infection. It is obvious he is in discomfort so we brought him in. Waited almost three hrs to be told that xrays and bloodwork would cost $1,200.00. I’ve never heard of prices like that for such common and simple procedures. I do NOT recommend.
I have had to bring two loved pets to VCA once was our puppy Lucy who had a gash open up after being treated at a different (awful) facility they showed love and compassion for our Lucy. So I did not hesitate to bring our beloved cat Ruby to them when she was very sick it was later in the evening but from the moment we walked in with Ruby till we left (unfortunately without our baby girl) they were so compassionate and caring for not only Ruby but for us also. They gave us as much time we needed to say goodbye and truly seemed to care for us. They mad a horrific night bearable. I cant thank the staff enough.
Under the circumstances that I had to visit, the staff and doctors were so kind and compassionate towards me and my family.R.I.P. Missy 💕💕
We took our dog there because of multiple seziours and they took care of us and my dog. In the end we had to put him down but they were so compassionate and caring and helpful. Thank you again for helping us even though I was a wreak from everything that had happened. You guys are really great to work with. I miss my dog like crazy but I know he is in a much better place now. I just wanted to give you guys credit for helping me when we needed it. Thank you guys again.
I can’t say enough about the professional compassionate care that my precious Ben received yesterday at CAVES. Let me tell you a bit of a story. Boy did I have a week .... it was an extremely stressful week with the humans in my house being sick etc. and our cat Is being followed by his Vet for the last 3 weeks. To make a long story short I had to cancel and reschedule an appointment twice. The front staff was courteous and went out of their way to reschedule Ben to be seen right away due to his condition. I had never been to CAVES before and I had almost a two hour drive to get there so I wasa bit frazzled when I arrived. The front staff was welcoming and I felt at easy right away- the place is bright, and clean the “pennies for pup” fundraiser display made me smile “woof- woof and meow” hats - they’re awesome! Anyway after meeting Dr Alario and his tech Danielle I knew I had come to the right place. Thank you so much for the care you showed both to Ben and his mom. We will see you all again in 10 days!
Nice enough staff but the wait time is horrendous. 4 hours for what was promised to be a 10-15 minute urgent procedure on our geriatric cat.. After we were discharged it was another half hour or more before our invoice was completed so we could pay. I get that other urgent cases came in but there should be enough staff to handle everyone in a reasonable amount of time.
My experience was very positive! Lisa was honest about the wait time and friendly to all the owners/pets. I was actually shocked by how nice the facility is -- HUGE inside, so you dont have to worry about dogs being cramped on top of each other etc. They have separated coming/going doors so theres no contact between animals and the waiting area is separated into 3 sections with half walls to give animals privacy. One poorly behaved dog was immediately ushered into a separate waiting room so I didnt have to worry about it causing trouble. Theres a whole green space outside! Tons of area to walk a dog, and benches on a covered entrance area. Once we were seen, the vet/staff were reasonable and flexible with my dogs needs. I was also SHOCKED when my bill was the $109 exam fee, plus $20 for dog ibuprofen, to cover removing a snagged dew claw. IMO this is more than fair for the materials / meds that were required.
Our poor beautiful baby Squid got very ill late in the evening. My husband brought him there because of the care they showed our dog. Sadly, he had a very bad bladder blockage and we decided that it was best he be put down. He was only 3 and doubled pawed. He was a mommies boy. Our hearts are broken, but the staff and Dr took wonderful care and they had such compassion when he passed. We thank you all 💔🥺🌹
I can not say enough amazing things about my experience at this hospital! My dog recently (several weeks ago) has surgery with Dr. Diamond. He took his time with my husband and I during the initial consultation and answered our ridiculous questions! His technician Maria was also very great, knowledgeable and understanding. She explained the cost of the procedure in break down from start to finish and sent us pictures of our handsome boy after surgery! The level of experience and knowledge was very evident and not to mention to level of compassion Maria showed during a time in need. Because of CAVES and there team, my dog is alive and recovering well.
I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life tonight. The Dr & staff were so caring & respectful of not only my beloved fur baby, but also my feelings. I was able to hold her, kiss her & tell her I love her before she took her last breath. They gave me all time I needed to say goodbye & also to sit & cry. Thank you
Very nice people that took care of my sick mouse. Thank you for the kindness and helping her not suffer anymore. 10/10 would recommend.
My dogs are never nervous while they are here. The place is clean. The staff is caring and knowledgeable. I like that they have water bowls for the animals too.
My lastest visit was a good experience. Two of my dogs got into a fight and I had to bring them both in for stitches and drains. I accidentally gave to much of one of their meds to one of my dogs. A quick call into them got me info it was okay but hey pay attention. And dont do it again. They stood behind their work and supported me and my pets. My vet was Brittany Colbath and she was very on point and professional.Prior to this visit I had to take my girl lulu the cat to be put down. During the process one of the techs was very dramatic holding the cat saying we might have to muzzle her over and over. She was in fear she was going to bite. Anyway it was one of the worst experiences I have had putting a pet down. I did not see that tech on my latest visit. She may have been having a bad day. I didnt post my review back then bc I wasnt sure if it was my emotional state that made my view of this tech unfair.
UNDERSTAFFED. Horrendous! 3 hours with no idea of how much longer. ONE MAN WAITING 6 hours. Nice staff. This is not uncommon, just doesn’t staff well enough. We left and went to another place. 16 year old sick cat needed care!
