I have trained at both locations, the facilities are amazing no matter were you go. I have had some great trainers there but Maeve Willis is by far the best for me. We have a lot of communication and she explains why I am doing something instead of just telling me to do it, which is important to me. She is full of positive reinforcement and I always end on a high note. I have made a lot of progress in the last year!

Don’t be fooled by the unassuming brick building - within the walls of The Spot in Grandview are some of the most supportive, hard working trainers around. I came here looking for help to get strong and feel better, and I got more than I could have hoped. I’ve been working with Billy for several months and he met me where I was at and has challenged me, pushed me and supported my journey to becoming a healthier me. The atmosphere is welcoming and upbeat, with tons of space so it never feels crowded. So happy I found this place and Billy!

Ive never worked out a day in my life before coming here and I thought about turning a new leaf in my life and giving it a try. After 6 years of attending the Spot Athletics I have not regretted a single moment. The staff are fantastic, Ive made some good friends here and its really pushed me to be the best person I can be physically.I urge anyone who might be thinking of going to a gym but just cant quite stay committed, you will want to go here and will feel the success instantly.

My daughter recently started working with Coach Rory and it has been one of the best training experiences she has ever had!!! Coach Rory has a great balance of push and support. He has set up a great training plan and in a short amount of time she is already seeing growth and results! From their first meeting they immediately clicked! She refused to go anywhere else, she knew she wanted to work with Coach Rory. He coaches like a big brother...he’s going to push you but he is also going to have your back. He works her hard in the gym (as he should) but he also gives “prep” talks before tournaments (volleyball) and checks in on her play whether that is texting for updates or actually watching a live stream. There is something to be said for the quality of a coach when the trainee leaves sessions saying I am so glad I came. That has been Lauryn with Rory. I can’t say enough about Coach Rory and the The Spot!!! Coach Rory is it!!!

The Spot Team and Coaches are great communicators, welcoming to athletes of all ages, and align to progress athletes safely to maximize their abilities. As a former NCAA athlete, current Head Coach in the Columbus area, and father of elementary aged children, I have found the SPOT to be safe, caring, and thorough in their training progressions and would encourage others to seek their expertise.

Got brought to The Spot by a coworker and so thankful that I did! I personal train with Steve and he’s reintroduced fitness into my life in a way which I actual enjoy, making it much more sustainable. We do a mixture of strength training and metabolic activity. As a woman lifting was something I had never been exposed to, so with the personal training as well as coaching in the group classes I’ve been taught how to do the excercises the correct way, helping me to get stronger and prevent injury. Not only are the workout programs awesome but it’s such a fun and friendly environment! Everyone gets to know each other making it not only a workout but a time to socialize and have fun. Cannot recommend this place (and Steve as a coach) enough!!

Rory is very professional, with a great uplifting personality. He does a good job at instructing the classes, while praising motivations and corrections for best results. My husband and I have been working out at The Spot for 4 months now and it has exceeded our expectations. It is a clean environment with every sort of equipment imaginable...and then some! The instructors are exceptional in that they quickly tune into your personal health and fitness goals- wherever you may be on that journey. We work with Matt who intuitively understands any aches/pains/issues of the day and readily shifts certain routines to accommodate needs. Both my husband and I have gained muscle, tone and an all over better awareness of our breathing and health.

I heard about The Spot 2 years ago as I was working in the same building as their Dublin, OH facility and I have been coming ever since. This is more than a gym, its an athletic training center and you are always with a Personal Trainer whether 1 on 1 or in a small group class. They provide a coach, a plan and accountability. Additionally, they push and motivate you; including those you train with.What stands out is the passion of the entire staff has for helping others. More than that its their knowledge, attention to detail and form. You matter and your experience is important to them. It starts with JL (the owner) and all the trainers from Bri, to Adam, to Corey, to LeAnna, to Braden, to Ben, to Dave and the rest of Trainers.I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and Bone Spurs in my knees 3 plus years ago and had everyday knee pain. I have also competed in many endurance sporting events and thought I knew running. My trainer told me my knee issues were due to being weak in the hips and they put me on a program to strengthen them and my knee pain completely disappeared 9 months ago. My plan includes running technique and training for Ironman Wisconsin. I thought I knew running! WOW, I am now building on proper running form. I have no doubt I will achieve my goals thanks to my PT and everyone at The Spot Athletics.Thank You so much!

The Spot in Dublin is a world-class training facility. But the most impressive aspects of The Spot are the friendly expert coaches and the carefully planned sessions. Careful planning goes into the programming for each training session that builds on the prior weeks work to get results. Im glad I dont have to worry about that. Im happy to leave that up to coaches so I can just get after it. No matter the exercise or movement, Matt, Braden, Kyle, Loren, Jeff, and Ben are always there to motivate, promote proper form/technique, and keep me injury-free.

First, the Spot’s facilities and equipment have everything you can imagine and more - they’re legit. Second, working out with Matt B is awesome. I’ve been training with Matt for over 6 months after several years of CrossFit. Matt is reliable, creative and motivating in workout design and execution - as good as anyone I’ve seen. This has translated into more strength and mobility gains and getting rid of muscle imbalances in 6 months than after 3 years w CrossFit. If you want results from a reliable gym and trainer - no better place.

The Spot Athletics is the best gym experience I’ve ever had.As an overview, the training is thorough, smart, and safe! The Semi-Private Training incorporates mobility, strength training, and conditioning. They educate us on learning proper mechanics, so you are doing it safely as opposed to figuring it out on your own at a big box gym. This is invaluable!Here are some other benefits of joining:- They use current best practices to inform the programming.- The programming builds on itself each week to ensure progress.- The coaches are extremely knowledgeable.- They are flexible with movement limitations and ability/strength levels. Please don’t be intimidated if you are new! This is the best place to come.- They consider past injury history, if applicable.- They create a welcoming environment.- The group training is fun and supportive. I’ll never go back to training alone.- They offer training sessions at various times throughout the day to accommodate different schedules.- They have two locations. A few things I love about The Spot: the name, the coaches, the professionalism, the friendly atmosphere, the music.So It all started about a year ago when I broke up with the last gym I was going too! I wasn’t pushed hard enough, I felt like just another customer and I wasn’t seeing the results I was paying for after TWO YEARS.So a friend recommended me to The Spot.My first day at The Spot I was afraid of all the new equipment and weights that I’ve never seen before. But I was introduced to everyone and it was a smaller group which was super nice. Everyone was so friendly.When I was working out I was being guided and actually “taught” how to lift weights 🏋️‍♀️ correctly. To this day I still find myself learning new tricks to lifting and new muscles that have never even been activated before.The music is ALWAYS on point! The Britney Burn isn’t one of my favorites... but it works in small dosages 😂Some of my favorite coaches are Maeve, who always ALWAYS pushes me to be the beast I am. In the past I was underestimated and put in a mom group lifting 5lbs 😖. At The Spot Maeve has me NOW bench pressing 35lb dumbbells with ease and so much more because she pushes my limits. I feel so motivated when I leave. That’s the type of motivation I need!Rory is actually pretty funny and reminds me of my Little brother. He also is the reason why I wake up on Sunday mornings. His playlist is super dope and it’s always a fun time.If you ever go to Matt’s class... He is like a yoga guru. Be ready to find muscles you’ve never used before. He sorta reminds me of a healer. Also very chill music.Kyle is another cool cat! He’s always super bubbly and love love loves food. He introduced me to a place on broad st that has the BEST pumpkin spice milkshakes...... NO JOKE! The coolest part about Kyles class is he always asks what we plan on eating after the class and what our favorite part of the workout was. Some of the answers he hears is probably hilarious.Ben is a sweetheart and very cool to workout with. He’s got some pretty cool tricks to help when you are having a rough workout day. His playlist is alsoooooo pretty groovy.Now this last coach I’ve never worked out with.... his name is Louis. He cracks me the hell up with his crockery and his personality. If he had a reality TV show..... I’d probably watch it 😂There are a few coaches I haven’t had the pleasure of working out with but I’m sure they are just as cool. 😊So needless to say, The Spot is the place to be!I leave all the time, feeling empowered because I exceed my expectations. I’m more motivated to go to the gym because the coaches don’t make me feel like just another number. We are all friends. The music is always upbeat & good for the soul. The environment is always a happy experience. Even if it’s a super early morning class, everyone is always very cool.And I can honestly say that I’ve never felt this way about any other gym.

Ive been a member of The Spot Athletics for about six months. In those six months, I have become stronger and more confident in my lifting abilities. I am mainly a runner, so lifting is relatively new to me. The coaches and staff are phenomenal! They take their time to demonstrate and explain each movement and set. Great for people of all levels. I’ve been working out at The Spot since December 2019 and I wish I had started sooner. I found myself becoming frustrated with crowded gyms, bored of the same workout routine, and struggling to stay motivated. The gym itself is impressive but what really makes The Spot special is its trainers. Everyone I’ve worked with has been great. The entire team is welcoming, knowledgeable, and finds way to make some pretty tough workouts enjoyable (special shout outs to Steve, Lauren, Louis, and Maeve whose classes I’ve taken the most frequently and who always have a positive attitude and consistently push me to get the most out of every workout). My experience at The Spot has been excellent and I’m looking forward to being a member for years to come!

Ive had a long history with The Spot; started there part-time when my then-trainer moved to The Spot, called me, and said youre gonna love this place! As a part-time Columbus resident, I got hooked immediately on the personal training and small class sizes. It quickly became clear this wasnt a gym--it was a training facility with coaches who knew their stuff, knew how to diagnose a clients strengths and weaknesses, and had the equipment at their disposal to create effective workouts to meet a variety of needs. Even if I was gone for several months, I was greeted by name and a welcome back when I walked in.When I became a full-time resident, I came back to The Spot. Ive done small group training, one-on-one training...in various combinations as had fit my goals. When youre at The Spot, you work with a trainer; its not just wander in and say, Im gonna do cardio today... Thats not how this place rolls. In fact, they have the year(!) planned out--but if you commit, you see results long before that. And youll see all ages in there working toward their goals.Could say more, but one important point today--they take cleanliness and safety seriously. They always have, but theyve upped their game since reopening in late May when fitness facilities were allowed to do so--and I value that--I wouldnt be working out there if they didnt.

JL Holdsworth has obviously put together an outstanding team of high-caliber, well-educated coaches. For the past few months, I have been working specifically with Coach Matt Gilbert to get ready for my rookie season with the Cincinnati Bengals. Thanks to his program, I’m now the fastest, strongest, and most explosive that I’ve ever been. Coach Gilbert has an elite understanding of human movement, especially when it comes to further developing high-level athletes. The Spot is wonderful. I have always tolerated exercising, but now I actually look forward to my training sessions, especially with Coach Louis. He is excellent. He makes training sessions fun while pushing me to do my best. He is also extremely kind and patient with his clients. All of the coaches are wonderful. This is hands down, the best gym I have been a part of. The semi-private training sessions are an insane value, and the trainers at this gym are top notch. I have had the pleasure of working with Louis & Lauren and both are excellent. It is a friendly, inviting atmosphere. Do not be intimidated coming into this gym, because everyone is welcoming, from the trainers to the people you will be working out with. If you arent able to complete a movement, the trainers will make sure to give an exercise to work on specific motions to get you stronger for more advanced movements. I have been coming to the Spot for about a year and a half and I absolutely love it!! It is hands down one of the best parts of my day, because I know I am going to get a great workout and leave feeling so much better than when I came in. So much of what makes the Spot incredible is the atmosphere provided to its members, and that is 100% attributed to the coaches. The coaches make you feel so welcomed and everyone knows you by name. I experienced a pretty significant shoulder injury and without the support of the Spot I would not have recovered as well as I have nor would I have continued lifting and have made it to where I am now. I have been training with Louis now for the last several months and he is an amazing coach who is truly good at what he does. He has such a genuine and positive energy that make his classes the best I have ever been to. The classes are so much fun but still push you to the best of your ability. He has found my specific weaknesses and each week we work on them and every week I get a little bit better and a little bit stronger. He is super patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and always willing to answer questions. I recommend anyone and everyone looking for a gym to come to the Spot (and Coach Louis’s classes). I have never enjoyed going to the gym as much as I do now and appreciate everything the Spot has done for me.

Ive never been a workout person...ever. My husband and I decided we wanted to improve our overall fitness, mobility, and general health. We thought wed just try it out... 2 years later, I cant imagine NOT being part of the #SpotFam. I LOVE it! All the trainers are *fantastic*. I can’t say enough great things about Matt B and the Spot! This summer, when my 10 and 15 year old daughters had a break from organized sports, we decided to try personal training as a family. Since Spot has options tailored for young athletes as well as adults, we decided to try it out. 4 months later, we’re committed! A huge part of what makes going to this gym so enjoyable is the atmosphere that comes with it, and I give that credit to the coaches, specifically Cory! Cory was the first trainer I had when I came to the spot and he immediately made me feel welcomed. Cory always listens to what your looking to get out of your work out and really puts all his effort into achieving that for you. Cory brings his small group classes together helping everyone feel comfortable with each other. It is fun and invigorating to workout amongst all ages and ability levels. When in the gym I have been surrounded by everyone from professionals athletes to young children. I started training at The Spot a little over a year ago. I knew I wanted to learn to lift and maybe eventually get into powerlifting. I started going to the powerlifting sessions with Coach Louis consistently in January and I am very impressed with my progress! I never thought I could feel this strong or train this hard. Even with the interruption of the pandemic, all of my lifts have gotten so much stronger and I’ve never felt better or more confident. I hit great PRs on my squat, bench, and deadlift and couldn’t have done it without Louis’s coaching. I’ve found something I love and I think I will do for the rest of my life. Cory is a phenomenal coach and trainer. He has a great eye for detail and provides excellent feedback to help his athletes and lifters consistently improve. I most recently trained with him during my second pregnancy and he helped me stay focused on my form to stay safe and keep progressing towards my goals. Additionally, he has a gift for leading group workouts in organized and efficient ways, while being present with each lifter and their goals, such that even in large groups, his athletes and lifters feel that they have had an individual coaching session. Absolutely love The Spot. I play volleyball and was looking to boost my vertical before returning to school for preseason and in just 5 weeks (3 weeks of actual training due to travel), they helped me add an inch to my vertical touch and take 0.4 sec. off of my 5-10-5 sprint time. I have been training here for almost a year now, and I am so glad I made the decision to train here! I do the personal training sessions, and also try to get to classes as those are included in my rate. Both the classes and personal sessions have been so encouraging and helpful in my fitness journey. I love The Spot In Grandview! They are friendly, welcoming, and just a feel good gym. I came in with horrible back and nerve pain and couldn’t even do a squat from my injury. Because of their expert training I’m feeling so much better. They really make sure their client are using the proper form and technique. I see Matt B. and I couldn’t be happier. If you have back pain, go to him!

Have nothing but good to say about The Spot. This is not a typical gym where you show up and do your own thing. The training staff has workouts that you can sign up for which vary by day and by trainer. The workouts are great and help improve overall fitness! Trainers are knowledgeable and friendly. The spot is a great place for everyone from beginners to current and former athletes looking to improve their overall fitness. Highly recommend The Spot!

I have been training at The Spot for about 8 months with Johnny. The facility is awesome and everyone on staff is friendly and knowledable. I love training with Johnny! He is a rugby player and knows what I need as a high level athlete. His workouts are extremely challenging and exactly what I have needed to prepare myself for my sport. He continually pushes me to be my best everyday we train together.

I am rather new to the spot, been working out there about 2-3 months. From the first day I started there, I’ve felt welcomed, comfortable and excited about working out. I mainly work out with Cory who not only instructs on proper form, but he also encourages me to push myself and I truly feel supported. Can’t wait to keep it up and see more results!!!

My 13 year old son, Sam, started working out at Spot in October. I have been very impressed by how passionate the Spot Trainers are to help their clients and their knowledge and ability to connect with my son. They have been very caring and attentive to his specific needs, what his limits are, and how far they can push him. They are always encouraging and motivating him to do better. In just a short period of time, his coaches are already commenting on how much harder and farther he is hitting the ball. Sam is always greeted by name, and has enjoyed every trainer he has worked with. He goes in with a smile and always comes out with a smile! I had been a work out on my own guy for years, but my 4 months here have changed that mindset completely. Its called The Spot for a reason... this is the spot for you if youre serious about bettering yourself. Whether youre young, old, an athlete, or new to working out, the coaching staff is knowledgeable and theyre dedicated to making sure you get the most out of your time there.This is not a gym, it is a training facility. And thats what you will do, train. The small group sessions are exceptional and are personalized for each trainee. I have personally seen increases in my strength and mobility that would have taken me 3x as long to attain on my own. Coaches also take the time to work on your form and technique to ensure your safety and maximize your output. Class offerings such as small group and met-con really help create a unique, close-knit community of people working to get results.Regardless of what plan or offering you choose to sign up for, there is undeniable value here. I have been going to The Spot for several years. The large and small group classes allow for a variety in training options. The coaches (Cory, Bri, Gilbert and Matt) always keep workouts challenging and fun. The atmosphere is second to none! Great equipment, great people and great coaching!

I was going here for about a year or so and couldnt have better things to say about it. The trainers ended up becoming my close friends and they fulfilled everything I wanted out of a strength class. I came in looking to gain muscle and by the time I left I had gained 10 pounds of muscle. I would highly recommend this place. The only reason I left is because I moved!

Just completed my trial month at The Spot and without a doubt I will be signing up for a monthly program. Very impressed with the knowledge of the trainers and the team work they exhibit. Really unique to see how much they work together and are always aware if a client is not properly performing an exercise, without hesitation they step in and provide proper instruction. It is evident that JL has created a hyper positive culture, it is in the air. Enjoy the the small and large group classes taught by Kirk, Bryan, Cassie, Laura, Mike and Shawn.

I started here about 7 months ago after being cleared to lift following a cycling accident (broken clavicle, broken ribs, and pre-fractures in both knees). I was paired up with Coach Johnny and through his extensive training and experience, he created a personalized training program that helped me regain mobility, strength, and working capacity. After just a couple of months, I was in better shape than before my accident. Theres a really nice community here, great equipment, and a lot of expertise to go with it. Its the kind of place you look forward to going to, no matter what (even when youd rather be sleeping).

Just finished my first month. Great experience! I was looking for something very specific and this gym filled that need. Ive always enjoyed speed training and most gyms seem to focus on cardio or strength. I was intimidated at first but was pleasantly surprised - trainers are really friendly, workouts change from week to week, and there are a good mix of people from all fitness levels. I plan to keep at it.

JL and his entire staff are authentic with their clients & teams for two reasons: They love what they do and they want to make a difference. They are not in it for themselves or trying to reach some gym membership quota. I have witnessed them have a huge impact on our HS athletes, both individually and helping us train our teams. JL and his entire staff are always learning from some of the best resources in the world, and obviously JL is as respected as they come in the training field.

The met con class is a legit training class for people not looking to mess around. Its not easy but the trainers are friendly and work with you where youre at and push you to improve. I feel holistically stronger than I have for a long time and met con in the morning has made me much more productive through out the day and sleep like the dead at night.

I have never felt more comfortable in a gym setting. The coaches really take the time to educate and instruct. Most of the classes I take are coached by Bri, Cory or Matt G. All three are allstars! I never used to enjoy working out but these coaches keep it challenging and fun.

Before I started at the Spot Athletics I would have never looked to train at a place like this but now I cant imagine working out at a regular gym. The staff at the Spot is awesome - they listen to the clients, push us and help us get results! The Met Con classes are tough. They are the perfect mix of conditioning, strength training and they are always changing it up to keep the sessions interesting and fun. The coaches are knowledgeable and really take time to make the group training sessions worthwhile for people of all abilities. I dont ever feel intimidated to pick up a heavier weight or add to the bar because I know the trainers are going to push and motivate me. If you are looking to get results from people that know what they are talking about and have fun while doing it, this is the place.

The Spot is THE place to build confidence, get strong and reward yourself for committing to “sweat life” self care. Originally joined this gym at the suggestion of my primary care physician who had been helping me navigate a bad back + old athletic injuries that plagued me for years. As a client herself, she swore up + down by their trainers personalized approach, steering me straight to Matt B because of his kind gentle spirit + incredible knowledge of kinesiology (honest, he’s body mechanics specialist — part PT guru, part reiki master, full time healer + nicest guy on the planet).Facility is fantastic. Who doesn’t want to workout on the 50 yard line of what looks like an NFL training facility? There are a million rooms each designed for different type of activity but somehow your daily set takes you through almost all by the end. The music is clutch (loud + perfect BPM for lifting), nothing old or outdated and never inappropriate/always upbeat. Never had the same workout twice; each day is equal parts isometric drills + sweat equity (yet somehow never sore the next day like usual lactic acid build up). Most impressed with way in which we always start with the basics but build on strength attained at last session (trust me, these guys review their clients progress regularly + adjust accordingly). If left to my own devices, I would have re-injured or re-aggravated my bad back by now— but not at The Spot! What can I say other than they’ve got the special sauce. Where else can you do 3 months of full on core work 3x/wk without a single plank (what does that tell you about their ingenuity + physicality?)The Spot feels like a family atmosphere. Each trainer every bit enthusiastic about each other’s clients as their own. In fact, never been there when I hadn’t received a friendly fly-by motivational moment from owner JL or friendly high-five from front desk face man Billy the Kid. And get this... once a month, the whole team works out together as a group with owner JL as their lead trainer so can stay focused on what clients are learning collectively (plus remind themselves what it feels like to be on the mat for endless clam shells + abductor exercises). I’m telling you, these guys innovate. JL’s energy + enthusiasm for his team + client base is infectious. He’s 100% a brand man, walks it like he talks it, + who you want to be in a fox hole with when you’re trying to climb out of a long slumber or deep den.With Matt and my good doctor MD MB by my side, I feel like an elite athlete getting game day ready vs. a stay at-home-mom trying to shape up. The Spot has well-earned their slot in my newfound pursuit to better health + wellness. Come join us... You won’t be disappointed!

I absolutely LOVE the SPOT. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable, motivating, and personable. Every day, all day, I’m looking forward to my 6:40pm Life group metcon workout! The workouts are dynamic, challenging, and I feel stronger physically and mentally every day. We have been working with Coach David Winton who has been extraordinary working with our two daughters. He has been instrumental working on a program to change running form and build up core strength to prevent recurring shin splints in my high school cross country runner and also work on form changes and speed traing to help my younger daughter have fun in sports. Started about 2 months ago and just loving it! Fantastic environment that JL and his crew have created - everyone knows your name from the first day you start. I mainly train with Bri right now for the small-group (shout out to large group exercise with Matt and Cory though). All the trainers are really focused on making sure youre doing the movements properly, that its not painful, but youre working at your potential. Bri definitely finds ways to make me try just a little harder or push a little more - shes an expert on zoning in on anyone who tries to slack during their workout!!

Hidden gem of a gym (see what I did there). Excellent staff and trainers. This is not a go run on the treadmill place. This is a gym. For those who want this type of workout with or without a trainer, this is a great place. All ages are welcome and classes are available for them all. Tucked behind a building so a little difficult to find at first.
