I dont live in the Alister apartments, but I toured with Sierra today and she was beyond the kindest/most professional Leasing Consultants I have ever met. She let us know that she hadnt been working there long, so she was still trying to learn everything and even so, she answered all of our questions and was such an incredibly good conversationalist. Thank you for the tour!
I love living in this community (especially this building 5301)!! The community is quiet, well-kept, maintained and very professional. I love that my dog has a manicured dog park to play in as well.Management does an awesome job with responding to calls & emails in an efficient manner. Allister apartments are hands down the best community that I have lived in since I’ve lived in Maryland in 2000! Job well done! I’m VERY happy with my decision to move here!Abeni Mayfield
I love the rental consultant Ciara she was very helpful in my whole move in process.
1. Building structure — Noise complaints seem to be a frequent occurrence here. . The creaking of the floors above us are so loud that it wakes us out of our sleep at times.2. Thin Walls/Floors - You can hear everything your neighbors are doing, and I mean everything! Your best bet is to live on the third floor if you want to avoid any noise from above.3. Cost - The price of rent is too high for the quality of the apartments. The windows arent weatherized. The doors werent weatherized when we moved in. All this has caused our BGE bill to be higher than any other place weve lived. You are paying for the location. Most neighbors have bought plastic for their windows.5. Aesthetics – When we moved in, the grounds were so bad due to the collection of leaves they allowed to pile up in the fall and winter. Compared to the grounds of Avalon, the apartment complex that is adjacent to us, Alister looked like it was in pretty bad shape. However, they recently switched management, and it appears that they are cleaning daily.6. Vendors/Hired Contractors – When we moved in, the apartment seemed liked whoever renovated it did a rushed job. We had to request our toilet to be re-caulked, the bathroom and kitchen sink was missing a stopper, the shower head wasnt sealed, the refrigerator was missing pieces on the inside, and the HVAC filter seemed like it hasnt been replaced in years.7. Overall, I would not recommend it. The noise alone that we have experienced keeps us from enjoying our apartment and wakes us up at night and in the early mornings. We are looking forward to moving on to another apartment.
The regional and property managers have been very supportive with an outstanding service request and ultimate transfer to a different unit within the complex. Thank you for your support!
We have had some great experiences living here but the people managing this place seem to employ an almost gross negligence style of leadership. There has been threats towards tenants and the management have stated we are responsible for ensuring our own safety, leaving us exposed to retaliation from the knife-wielding individual expose to bouts of anger if we contact law enforcement. Constant harassment from neighbors for the past 3 months. Our renovated unit was unfinished and we had no A/C or Heat which took them 9 days to fix the heat. It is a nightmare to live here. This complex has a great location, But there is about 4 other apartments complexes right next to it with different management teams that you could rent from. If you care about your safety, your health, paying for a renovated unit and actually receiving service that you pay for while you live in an apartment complex do not live here.
Great place to live! The surroundings are nice and feel safe. The amenities of the pool and gym are added bonuses. I also love the upgrades they have done to the apartments. Finally, any communication with property management is handled in a prompt and courteous manner.
It’s been 3 months since I’ve moved in and my family and I love it here. The community is quiet and peaceful. Terria and the rest of the ladies in the leasing office are friendly and responsive, and my work orders have been completed the same day. The grounds are maintained on a daily basis + trash is picked up pretty frequently. I would renew and refer my friends/family to live here.
Pleasant staff, very helpful. Very responsive, Lisa and Terria took very good care of us. Made the application process so easy and fast. Looking forward to moving in.
Mgmt obviously offers incentives for 5-star reviews. Dont let the golf course fool you. This place was nice when it was new, but at 30 years old, it has gone ghetto with most of Columbia Road. When in the parking lot, be prepared for section-8 youth asking you for money for the bus and complaining and calling you names when you decline. Lots of housing voucher holders here.
My husband and I lived in the Alister Town Center apartments for about 2 years between 2017 and 2019. Overall, it was a good experience. The office staff were friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable, and most (if not all) of the units are newly renovated with open concept floor plans.Ive lived in at least 5 different apartment complexes, and maintenance requests were addressed more quickly at Alister Town Center than any of the other places I have lived - usually within the same day. My one complaint would be that some of larger maintenance projects (like a replacement of the fire sprinkler system) were not very well communicated to the residents. There were instances where we would get a notification the day before or the day of that contractors would be entering our home.Parking was free while we lived there (except in the covered spaces), and we never had a problem finding a spot. We never had a problem with rodents or insects, either. We were never too hot or cold inside, and we didnt pay a fortune in electricity bills. Like one of the other reviews noted, you will hear your upstairs neighbors if you live on a lower floor.Overall, the location is very convenient, with quick access to key areas of Columbia and local highways. Columbia itself is great. It is easy to get around, theres a lot of nice parks, and there are tons of great events at Merriweather and other spots around town. The grounds at the apartment complex are well maintained (even if some areas could use more plantings). My neighbors were friendly as were most people we met around the complex. I felt safe walking at night. We did have our bike go missing from the patio while we were out of town, and our neighbors car did get broken into. However, I think this is not uncommon for apartments near the city.Overall, I would recommend this complex to someone looking for an apartment in this part of Columbia.
Alister is a wonderful place to live. New management came in took over and have done a wonderful job. The upgrade on the property is awesome. The staff Stefanie and Devanae are so pleasant and helpful
04/05/2019Here is a full and unbiased assessment of this community:1. Building structure — There are significant issues with the safety and security of these buildings. On several occasions, wild animals have been able to gain access to attics and other areas. I’ve been awakened to the sound of animals trying to break into my kitchen and I could not reach anyone from the office or maintenance teams. Little is done to fix this and the attempts at repairing the building is minimal. Management constantly has excuses about why this is happening and no compensation was offered for this occurring for the last year.2. Safety — More and more, strange individuals are walking and canvassing this community. I’ve witnessed random cars and shifty people on several occasions. No security guard or paid police officers are on site to protect this community. I also constantly hear police sirens and fire/ambulance.3. Cost - The price of rent is way too high for what is being offered. No business center, lack of amenities, and very limited access to a full-staffed maintenance team, management, and community resources.4. Management - Office staff/management is constantly changing. You have to complain constantly to get things done.5. Aesthetics - The buildings’ interior need paint and grooming. On the outside it may look nice, but the steps and floors need paint and polish at best. It has a project look to it.6. Vendors/Hired Contractors - They do not hire professionals to do work. They hire mom and pops who do a messy job of everything and it shows. $1500-$1600 in Rent should warrant better hired contractors, wouldn’t you say?7. Thin Walls/Floors - You can hear everything your neighbors are doing and I mean everything!! You can also smell it. Recently a neighbor burned food on the first floor. We all smelled it on floor 3. Smh!!!8. Pest Control - I constantly see pest control on site. What does that tell you?9. Community Events/Outreach - Minimal.10. Overall - In my opinion, for Columbia, not worth it.
MOLD!!!! On the ceiling, your clothes, luggage, furniture, everywhere!!!! They pretend to fix the mold issue but never really do. I lost a lot! Insurance gave me nothing! My neighbors baby got sick from it.Cheap fixtures that constantly need repair. If you need an appliance replaced the give you an older model instead of something equivalents or better. When they finally fix one thing something else breaks.Couldnt wait until my lease was up! This was the longest year of my life.DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR SACRIFICE YOUR HEALTH.
The worst experience ever. Only stayed for in our apartment for 4 hours and had to leave due to the bad conditions of the apartment. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE MODEL! The day we moved in the carpets were soaked. STAY AWAY!
We have been living here for a year now. We love our apartment, leasing staff, and maintenance staff. Devanae is always helpful and always a pleasure to talk to.
Between management always leaving early or coming late, and requested maintenance repeatedly failing to be completed and not being followed up on, this place would get zero stars. The apartments are nice enough, and the location is decent. There is also never enough parking because they take up half of the damn lot with their covered parking spots which they charge extra to use. Cant wait to leave.
This is a beautiful garden style community. The majority of my experience with the staff was very pleasant, with the exception of some incidents. I understand that the management company had just changed and Im sure they had a lot to take on at first because the previous management didnt seem to keep up with the property in the end. My main issues were only ever with maintenance and them responding in a timely fashion. However the staff in the office have always been helpful and polite. Devanae has helped me the majority of my stay at this property and always make me feel very comfortable, along with Stefanie who had helped me the occasional struggling months I have had. Overall I give the benefit of the doubt to the few incidents I have had and feel the staff is doing great for this community.
Ive lived at Alister, formally Island Club, for 18 years I am a senior citizen. I came home last week only to find a crumpled sheet of paper on the door telling me I had 60 days to move out, it was very cold and daunting. No reason was given, only that I had to move. I understand they are in the mist of renovation but to put me out without any options, such as rent reevaluation, assistance or warning after almost twenty years of occupancy I think is outrageous, heartless, and inconsiderate, especially since I have never been late on rent payments nor made maintenance calls, been a problem tenet, nothing. The management seem to be oblivious to my concerns or situation. It is all about money, they want to charge three hundred more dollars for the same apartment with upgraded appliances etc, when its the windows that need replacing, because they are drafty in the winter months causing $200+ electric bills and in the summer do not hold in the A/C. I have put up with it, so that I didnt have to move. Not to mention theres no business center. These people do not have any regard to their tenets. Dont expect any sentiment from these people you may get put out.
I almost got hit by gunfire. The management does not care about anything except getting their rent, which keeps going up while services are cut back. There are almost 30 vacancies and they still keep raising the rents.
I would definitely rate this property and team a 5. The leasing staff and common areas are very inviting, warm, and makes you want to stay forever! Theres no better word to describe the way I feel as soon as I step into the leasing office. Words cannot express the way I feel about this place- Fabulous! DeVanae and Stefanie are very friendly, loving and explain everything well. They are always very patient, always ready to help, very pleasant, and always smiling when I walk in. I cannot ask for a better leasing staff and management team. The coffee area has everything that you would need; assorted teas, creamer, several coffee options and more! Great pool area and an amazing view! I love my apartment and always get several great compliments on my apartment from my guests. have a spacious floorplan with a fireplace. The responses from Maintenance are very quick. Khai, the Maintenance tech is very friendly, smart and does the job very well always with a smile on his face. Thank you so much for everything! I truly enjoy living here and I recommend everyone to come see for yourself.
Very clean at all times. Excellent gym area and if your ever in need of help with anything the receptionist DeVanae Landrum is always ready to help.
Excellent place to live. Very Friendly and hardworking management team.
Best Community I lived so far. Devanae and Stephanie are so sweet and nice everytime and very helpful. I referred another friend of mine too and would suggest everyone to chose this community if they are searching for apts in Columbia.
Alister (formerly Island Club) is such a wonderful place to live. I have lived here for going on 7 years this June 2018 and I cannot say anything negative about the property or staff. DeVanae and Management has been a pleasure to work with, and are truly concerned about any work orders that I may have. They have made the Management transition an easy-going process, and I love visiting the office any chance that I get. They are very responsive and follow up with me pertaining to any work order that I may have in a timely manner. I have never been left in the dark about the status of a work order, or had to wait for any work order to be completed. DeVanae and Stefanie are always asking about my dog, Moca and requesting for me to bring her to the office to see and pet her. I love Alister and do not plan on moving any time soon! I have recently renewed my lease for another year! I would definitely suggest living here!
I love living here! And the new management is great!
Great community and management is very responsive.

Horrible place to live. Truly a horrific experience. The management staff - rude and unhelpful. Apartments are grossly overpriced and the property isn’t well kept.
Ok. But just ok..
