We have been taking our dog to the vets at West Loop Vet for a few years now. All of the vets we have seen have been fantastic and very knowledgeable and we have particularly loved working with Dr. Edwards on care for our dog who has an auto immune condition. Although we’ve had some large bills as a result, we always trust that our dog is in the best hands at West Loop and they take care in answering all of our questions thoroughly and providing timely post appointment follow ups. Customer service is absolutely exceptional and we highly recommend West Loop Vet!

When I first got my puppy bernedoodle I needed a vet. The one the previous owners used was too far for me and wanted one a bit more local. After calling several veterinary clinics West Loop was the only one who was willing to accommodate my little guy. They are very communicative and quick responders to all questions. Also as a first time owner I had so many questions that may seem trivial but they eased all my concerns.Panda loves seeing all the vets there. The prices are reasonable and the value is great.

All of the vets, techs, and other staff are incredible. My dog, Arugula, and I have been going to them for the past 6 months to get him set up as a puppy and for one sick visit. We have worked with a number of folks through our time, and not a single one is anything but wonderful. My dog LOVES going to the vet because they treat him so well, even after things that may be considered unpleasant like getting blood work done or his neuter surgery. During COVID, their protocols have been so incredibly safe. They have the humans wait outside and will video call or regular call (your choice) you while they are doing their exam on your pup. Whenever I have had questions, the team follows up quickly. I’ve been able to schedule appointments with ease, and for time sensitive issues, get in very quickly. They are also aware of costs, and will explain options and when possible, provide quotes in advance so you aren’t shocked by the price. While the rates may be a little higher than other options, they really go the extra mile and are absolutely worth the price to make sure your best friend is as healthy as possible.I appreciate how thorough and thoughtful they are with their care, and it is so evident that every single person who works there LOVES animals and wants the best for them.

WLV has taken care of my 14-year old lab since we moved to Chicago four years ago. We have always had a good experience here, but this weekend when we had to say goodbye to our dear Max, we could not have asked for better care. Dr. Osborne was compassionate, caring, and walked us through every step of the process. Through one of the most difficult times, I cannot imagine how WLVs team could have made it any easier.

My 4.5 yr old cat has been having ongoing digestive issues that have given me (and my kitty) a lot of anxiety and stress. After a disappointing visit from a nearby vet that made me feel worse, I took him to West Loop Vet Care. The experience was night and day. Everyone including the front staff (Shelly), the vet tech (Hannah) and the vet (Dr. Fisher) were super professional, kind, and knowledgeable. Most importantly, I felt like they cared. They took time to understand his history, answer all my questions, and put together a very clear action plan. Thank you for a positive experience and making me feel like my cats care is in good hands.

Our 25 lb dog started coming here as a puppy when we lived in the area. Unfortunately her first experience involved a tech with a bad attitude and little patience for our pups first experience. Even after that first experience we always had a rotation of different Vets. They do not try to keep you with the same doctor. Our dog had some extreme anxiety after her first visit and they prescribed her trazodone. The first few visits with it were fine but as she continued to not have the best experiences at West Loop Veterinary Care, her anxiety worsened and the medication did not help. Our last few times there they simply told us they could not work with her and send her home. There were no recommendations of other anxiety meds to provide, or any other way we could try to work with our dogs issue at the vet. The 3rd time we were turned away was the last time we went. The new vet we are seeing now has already been significantly more helpful in providing ways we can combat our pups anxiety. West Loop Veterinary Care never did this. I would not recommend going here if your dog has anxiety about the vet.Update: I also never received any outreach from the vet as they indicated in their response below

I highly recommend West Loop Veterinary care for their dedication to animals and care they take to ensure everyone is having a great experience. I have been taking my puppy there for the last 6 months. They were the only office in the area that was accepting new patients within a 4 week time frame and most pets are advised to be seen within 1 week of arriving home. When my puppy recently became ill with fever, severe joint pain and swelling about 1 month ago, her veterinarian Dr Edwards was happy to make an appointment and squeeze us into a morning visit. Unfortunately my puppy did need to be hospitalized and was diagnosed with a rare immunologic disorder. She is doing well now, thanks to the support of her veterinarian, their staff and the hospital we were referred to. Dr Edwards and her staff have been very supportive and reached out to check in on my puppy multiple times those first few weeks and always willing to answer any questions I had regarding treatment options and future expectations.

We love WLVC; the staff is always so patient, friendly and understanding when you have any concerns over your pet (even those most minuscule issues that bother you and arent of any great importance to the overall wellbeing of your pet). They are quite responsive time-wise and have never failed in that regard either via phone or email. I especially applaud their staff for doing their best under the circumstances of covid - the checking in on the phone upon arrival and meeting us outside to hand our dog over has been of great ease. While I dont necessarily have to participate in the appointments the dr. has with my dog (as they have thus far been general wellness, vaccines and a standard neuter), they are happy to allow pet parents to participate in the appointment/visit via video conference. Im sure this is of great relief to those who have more of an emergency issue with their pets. Oh, and they explain in advance what treatments and care will cost, so that youre not totally surprised in the end.

I take my dog and my two cats here and the vets are great. Provide great care. Today however, I took my recently adopted pregnant cat to have her first check up. They did an x-ray on her and then charged me $250 along with the exam fee! They did not tell me the price before doing so. When the assistant came out originally to pick the cat up I said she was pregnant and they said that they would do an x-ray. She made it seem like it was included in the exam. I know I should have known better but they should have told me the price before just doing it. A quick exam turned into a $600 visit that I was not expecting. Beware of hidden fees! I have been here before but they were definitely trying to nickel and dime you for everything. Note to owner.. always do a break of bill first... lucky I paid for this ridiculousness. Not returning.

The staff has been incredible at taking it slow with Jonesy and making sure that both he and I feel at ease. I cant recommend this place enough! Also, if your dog is anxious like ours, I highly recommend doing happy visits, where you show up with your pup and have the entire staff give treats and make your puppy feel at ease outside of your regular appointment. The receptionists are always client focused, upbeat, attentive, and professional. Teagan really cares and her compassion makes a difference.Dr. Kuchay was disinterested in what I needed. I disclosed that the medical jargon was unclear and asked for a quick, written overview. He flippantly offered to repeat himself using even more terms and concepts that were unfamiliar to me as opposed to communicating in a way that Id understand. I thought it was a fair ask, but was met with unwillingness and attitude. I was told that Dr. Osborne would email a recap-still waiting on that.An x-ray was recommended, in spite of the vet being aware that my dog had eaten the morning of, which came back inconclusive $300 later. Go figure, the next recommendation was a fasted x-ray. The second round of bloodwork was an unnecessary evil given that it had already been done 3 days prior and showed no meaningful change.I was referred to VEG (ER) for an ultrasound. When I arrived, I was told by the staff there that West Loop had misinformed me and that special arrangements had to be made for this service. If youre interested in an onslaught of invoices and a stream of medical information offered with vague next steps, go to West Loop Veterinary Clinic.

Sadly, I have to adjust my once 5 star review to a 1 at West Loop Veterinary Care. While their office/reception staff remains top notch, everything else has slipped and there is no consistency here anymore. The turnover rate for Veterinarian’s at this location is alarming and is forcing us to consider finding a whole new practice. We have not had one consistent Vet since 2019 when Dr. Tierney left. Every time we make a new appointment, we are told that Vet has left. This has happened THREE times in ONE year. If our dog was 5 years old, this review would not happen. However I now have a 12 1/2 year old Pittie who is starting to have health issues in his old age. As I desperately am trying to maintain and keep him healthy for years and years to come. The care in his age right now is crucial. It is completely unacceptable to be at a practice for over FIVE YEARS and not have one Vet that knows his medical history and can assist with new issues and guide us confidently and accurately. For example: One vet told us their practice could handle the dental work he will need. Another Vet weeks later told us to go to a dental specialist and they wouldn’t be able to do the dental care he needs at West Loop. Two completely different answers, same practice. We order our meds through Chewy, and the last conversation I had between West Loop regarding the meds was embarrassing. They had no idea my dog lives off a certain prescription even though it’s in his file and they have sold it to us for FIVE years. Is there anyone in management who could reach out to us please and fit us with a Veterinarian at your practice who isn’t going to be gone next time we come in? Match us with someone who will care about our Dog as much Dr. Tierney did? We come in multiple times a year and have spent over $30,000 alone in the past 5 years here on medicine and care.

Pros:- friendlyCons:- hidden costs and suggesting unnecessary operations- so called annual exam that they always try to charge for every visit- incompetent serviceI visited this hospital for the process of taking my dogs to another country. There were some unpleasant experiences and incompetence I noticed as I went through this process.1. They wing their health examination process. I paid about $200 for it. I was told everything was fine with my dogs. However, I knew one of my dog had a minor tooth problem. The vet only noticed it when I told her. Also, they incorrectly measured dogs weights by over 14 pounds, which tells me that they dont perform procedures with professionalism while charging you a lot for it.2. They already charged me exam fees for our initial visit for getting rabies vaccine. When we visited again 4 weeks later for just blood sampling, they sneakily put this on the bill again. I reasoned and they took it off. They are charging this fee AGAIN for my next visit for the health certificate. What was the initial one for then? Ridiculous.3. The final bill always includes a thing or two that will significantly increase your totals. E.g., when I called initially, before making appointments, I was told the price of traveling paperwork will be $270. Now, it is $732. To be fair, it includes costs that other parties are requiring. Still, they dont communicate clearly the fees you need to pay eventually. Always expect that you will pay more than what you were told over the phone.4. Medical plan asked for over $2,000 for potentially pulling out a tooth. You know the story of American hospitals whether it is for humans or for animals. Criminally overpriced.

I have brought my dog here several times due to the convenient location of this clinic in the West Loop. I feel obligated to warn others about the shady business practices they engage in. The compassion or concern they show for my dog is a clever ploy for them to perform as many tests and studies that they can get away with. Its a shame I have to feel like I need to defend myself from being completely taken advantage of. For example, if I take my dog in for diarrhea, they will guilt me into paying hundreds (or thousand) of dollars for x-rays and blood work and expensive medications. This vet has a prime location right in the heart of restaurant row on Randolph street. They are paying their rent by charging obscene prices to perform unnecessary tests on animals with vulnerable and concerned owners.

Since she is so young, dehydration was a huge concern and I wanted to have her seen ASAP. I was so pleased to find a clinic that keeps openings in their schedule for emergency appointments and they were able to see her within 2 hours of my phone call. I definitely value quality of care over price since my dog means the world to me, but I was a little frustrated with the pricing. The exam itself was actually reasonably priced, my only complaint is that the medicines were really expensive.I looked at the itemized receipt and googled the medicines and realized that I could have gotten them for around $60 on Chewy, but was billed $150. If it was only $20 or maybe even $50 difference that would be fine, as I understand that local businesses cant operate at the same level as Chewy, but ~$100 is a huge difference and felt especially frustrating during Covid times when a lot of people are struggling financially.I will probably still go here since I hear so many good things about it and I did feel like the staff was really great, but may try to ask if they can fill the prescription elsewhere next time.

I have brought my cats to this place for a couple times over the past 2 yearsThis is the closest place I can find within walking distance. However, my experience have been very disappointing.1. The receptionist at this Vet is VERY unprofessional and VERY unorganized. You can never get a prompt response from them either through email or phone call. When I rescheduled a surgery for my cat early this year, they didnt tell me that the surgeon would be a different vet. When we go in on the surgery day, we met a completely different vet who has no idea about the history of our cat, yes, they didnt even check the medical record until the day of!! After we questioned whether the vet was confident enough to perform the surgery based on very limited knowledge about our cats condition, they hesitated and suggested us seeing a different vet. After another one our recent emergency visit when my cat stops eating, I sent them some questions about my cats appetite and never heard back from them. Instead, they sent me another email asking for the history again. People working at this place has no idea about how to do their job properly and it doesnt seem like there is any form of efficient communication among themselves.2. The vets at this clinic are all about doing tests tests tests. My cat recently stops eating all of a sudden and we had no choice but to see them for an emergency appointment. After the exam, they cant find any reason for the loss of appetite and suggested us doing some blood work. When we asked whether there are any immediate treatment available to help improve the situation since we are worried that our cat is nor eatie, the vet insisted they do a blood work first, claiming that : I cant tell you anything unless I see the test results. There could be kidney problem or liver problem But as far as we know, these problems are usually the RESULTS not the CAUSE of lost appetite. In my opinion, even if we cant find the cause, there should always be some treatment available to relieve the symptoms.Guess what, after they did a $400 bloodwork and additional urine test we DIDNT agree to, the vet still cant find any cause, and told us we need to do ultrasound and X-rays???After keeping our cat at the clinic for 3 hours, the vet is finally willing to prescribe what we later found to be very standard medication for loss of appetite in cats.My biggest complaint is that, these standard treatment could have been prescribed from the VERY beginning and we could have been given the choice to do these tests AFTER the standard treatment proven to be not effective. But at that moment, we were basically forced to do those tests, because it was presented in a way that we were not getting any treatment unless the tests were done. The same thing happened last year where they did a couple hundred dollars of blood tests on our cats and basically gave no useful information about our cats situation.I understand tests can do a lot more than human, but shouldnt veterinary school teach basic diagnosis and treatment for common conditions?? There are vets out there who trys not to add unnecessary burdens on their clients as much as they could and this is definitely NOT one of those vets.

We have been taking our two dogs to West Loop Vet for about two years now and we have been nothing but thrilled with our experience. Especially now, as we are all navigating the social distancing policies. We had to bring in one dog for an emergency procedure, and they could not have been more helpful. They genuinely love the animals they take care of and it shows. Times are strange right now, but it is an enormous comfort knowing the wonderful staff of West Loop Vet is there for us when we need them.

West Loop has provided care for my Scottish Terrier and education to me as a new pet owner since I brought him home 4 years ago. Everyone I encounter at the practice is professional, kind, positive and patient. It is apparent that pets and their owners are held in high regard, as service and procedures are constantly improved. In addition, I consistently receive a call after every visit to inquire about my dogs well being. They are also my primary source for the latest and best information about caring for pets.I give West Loop the highest rating for outstanding customer service and care for pets.

Staff is rude and unfriendly and low energy overall. The most expensive vet Ive ever experienced in my decades owning pets across multiple states / cities. They offer a hook rewards program which means run for the hills for overpriced treatment and terrible service. Then they upsell you. Worse yet, they failed to miss two issues with my pup that my now new vet found. The first few visits years ago went ok, but theyve gone down hill especially lately. Theyre not the worst option on this side of town, but very pretentious and not worth the issues theyve got going.

My kitten and I are first-time patients of WLV- will absolutely be returning and recommend their office. Appointments during COVID are a breeze with drop off, virtual visit, and pick up. My kitten is feeling better from Dr.s recommendations and care; their staff is so nice and professional. Prices compared to that of my north-side vet. Thank you, WLV!

Extremely expensive for poor care. I brought my dog here to be examined and then got a second opinion from another vet in Chicago. The vet at West Loop was three times the cost of the other and totally missed a large, cancerous tumor in my dogs thyroid - even after I pointed out the mass to them. This resulted in a significant delay in my pets diagnosis.

I have been a client at WLVC for a period of time and have always been extremely pleased with the quality of care that they have provided to my kitties. However, for this review, I want to highlight my experience from Nov.2019-March 2020 as I believe it exemplifies everything that is special about this practice. In Nov. of 2019, my very beloved 17.5-year-old Kala was diagnosed with carcinomatosis. Unfortunately, this was a rare presentation and the prognosis was grim. Receiving this information was devastating. Fortunately, I was blessed with an amazing team to care for Kala . We had been consistently seeing Dr. Yacker for 3 years and she always offered superb care as we managed different diseases both common and uncommon in geriatric kitties. Her gentle approach with Kala, her clinical acumen, and her patience and kindness towards me allowed us to build a strong relationship, which would prove to be crucial in the months following the diagnosis.Being diagnosed with an aggressive and terminal cancer meant our best option was palliative care to give Kala as many good days as possible. This involved multiple medications, day hospitalizations, fluids, urgent care appt., snuggles, love, and so many tears. With each step, I knew that I could rely on Dr. Yacker, Monse, Cortney, and Bailee (team Kala) who had been working with Kala over the years and grew to love her. Having a competent veterinary team was paramount but what truly impressed me was their willingness to go above and beyond for us and how they are genuinely wonderful human beings with big hearts. I could not have asked for a better team as I navigated this difficult journey. They assisted and empowered me in making the best and most informed decisions regarding Kalas care, answered a barrage questions, offered support, and consoled me when Kala wasnt having a good day and needed to come into the office. They also fought as hard as I did for Kala, which meant the world to me. Outside of team Kala, every person with whom I interacted at WLVC from the patient care coordinators, room attendants, nurses, and other veterinarians in the practice where great. When team Kala wasnt available they stepped in and offered treatment, they refilled medication weekly, rooted for Kala and asked how she was doing, were always kind and empathetic towards me, and found ways to work Kala in when she needed an appt. Each and every person at WLVC made a difference. With palliative care, a wonderful treatment team, and the right combination of medication she was able to have 4 good months, which was longer than the month or two she was originally given in Nov. When it came time to make the decision to say goodbye Dr. Yacker was there to reassure me that it was the best thing for Kala. In turn, this gave me strength to make the decision and to feel at peace knowing that I did everything I could for her. The day I said goodbye was incredibly heartbreaking but Cortney, Monse, and Dr. Yacker helped me to create a peaceful space in WLVC special room. They also let me go at my own pace, listened to stories, looked at pictures, said goodbye to Kala, grieved with me after Kala was gone, and offered comfort. I will always be eternally grateful to them for making the goodbye special and one that was peaceful and comfortable for Kala.WLVC truly lives up to their mission of building relationships with their clients and patients to provide excellent care. If you choose to bring your pets to WLVC you can trust that they will be in great hands with people who genuinely care and want to afford the best services possible. I am thankful for all that they did for Kala and I am happy that I can continue to work with them as I care for my other two cats.

Great experience! Doc and nurse there are just professional and lovely.OK. I am gonna edit my review. They never treat the cause of the symptoms. One of my cats had parasite and they knew it from the test but they never treat it properly. And my second cat caught the same after weeks. And they never gave me the test results in paper or via e-mail. After I asked for medical records, there are still no test results shown. They only told me over phone. So you can imagine how hard it is to memorize all the terms. They do care about you and your cat. But I just dont want my money down the drain any more.

West Loop Veterinary Care is the best vet office you will find to take your beloved fur baby. I have been taking my dog Bruce there for almost two years after finding the office when I moved back to Chicago. Dr. Edwards has always been fabulous and is so gentle and you can tell she really cares about your pet like it is her own. The fear free environment has helped Bruce become more comfortable and relaxed at vet visits- what can he say, he loves peanut butter! Bruce has recently had some major medical issues and the team at West Loop has gone above and beyond to get him the care he needs, and moving quickly with procedures and appointments so as to not delay treatment with what is a serious matter. Dr. Larson is a great vet and surgeon and has done a great job with Bruces recent surgery, and I am more than appreciative of the great care he has given Bruce. All of the techs I have interacted with have been wonderful and knowledgeable, Cortney especially. A special shout out to her for carrying my 75lb Bruce all the way out to my car when he could not do it himself. I have recently moved to the suburbs for a short while, and I couldnt imagine bringing Bruce to another vet office, so we make the commute into and out of the city just for West Loops phenomenal vet care. We love West Loop!

Our two cats hate the vet, but everytime we go the quickly warm up to the kind Vets and Vet Techs! Its wonderful that they do have a couple of parking spots since we dont like walking .6 miles with our cats in carriers.I also love that there are two entrances so our cats dont have to run into dogs as well.My only complaint is that we are never told the price of treatments, visits, etc. Each time we go in we somehow end up spending hundreds of dollars. Hard not to pay for your furry friends though.

Super-easy to get into now, with reserved parking out front (on Randolph, just west of Hasted). There was a $20 fee for an unscheduled visit, and the place is not cheap, but the staff is very attentive and involved. The surroundings are very urban chic, and the coffee they offer is excellent. I do find they are rather long to get lab results, but otherwise highly observant and intelligent.

Great place but recently we switched due to my dog barked at the Dr. and made her nervous. My dog has always been high anxiety and barks at every Dr but never beyond when they first enter the room. The last 2 times we were told to drug her before coming in. for the previous 7 yrs being a patient, we never had to and the former Vet had no issues with her. She was always nervous but he knew how to work with her and approach her slowly. The last 2 docs wanted to drug her and just wanted to be in and out. Left a bad taste in our mouth since she is already on Prozac and does not need more unnecessary drugs for a visit where she is nervous. They are also very expensive. Got a $1200-1700 quote for teeth cleaning and found another vet that we trust and it was $350. Crazy!

First visit to a vet since bringing home our 4 month old Australian Shepherd Flynn. Flynn is shy and scared in new environments with new people (and all dogs).Having picked a midday appointment, the center was quiet. The facilities were clean and both the technician and doctor were excellent in keeping Flynn calm and distracted during the examination and vaccinations. He did not whine or yelp once and was content with his treats throughout the whole process. The doctor listened to our concerns and did not enforce treatments we were unsure of (from breeders guidance) but provided a great overview on why they would recommend this treatment and giving the option to go for it on the next visit.Great first impression.

I would like to preface by saying this is not my normal vet. I had two cats previously - 16 and 18 years old - who were established with an excellent and trustworthy vet. I had an urgent issue with my new(er) kitty on Sunday. One of two non animal hospital/truly emergent vets open on Sunday. After Rosco Village vet refused to allow an appointment Sunday, I landed here. Fantastic vet techs who I feel sincerely enjoyed my cat, provided excellent customer service, etc. Dr. Tierney also gave me a first good impression, though not a clear cut diagnosis or plan. I get that. I received a follow up call first thing this morning from a vet tech, Katie; who said she was not there yesterday. When asked if Finn was better, my response was no. I received surprise as the response. I wasn’t expecting an overnight miraculous recovery and have realistic expectations, being in (people) medicine. She told me she would have the doctor call me today. When I asked for my itemized statement, which I didn’t receive at check out Sunday, she said she was sending “now”. At 2 pm, no statement. I called and the gentleman I spoke to emailed it immediately. I was informed Dr. Tierney was alerted of the message to call. At 7:52, prior to the clinic closing at 8:00 pm, no call back from anyone. I’m a new client to this vet - and appreciate the early morning follow up call - but what is the point of that if you don’t actually care and follow through? I asked when my cat should return for follow up - no answer. I ask for educational material/instruction - nothing. I tell them my cat is not eating any of the expensive food they gave him and that I’m increasingly concerned this will create more issues aside from what I brought him for.My estimate also was around $200-300 on the low end and like $500-600$ on the high end. Bill was over $700. Subcutaneous fluid that I’ve had for my previous geriatric cats - more expensive than my regular vet. Costs in general not in line with local vets. Price isn’t a rate limiting factor, but if you are going to charge more than the norm, then your customer service should reflect that. It didn’t, in this case. Don’t pretend to care with a follow up call, and then not follow up. My cat is in worse shape than when I arrived there and I can’t even get a call back.
