Food was fabulous. so fresh and made me feel like home. I will be coming her more frequently 100% I had the chicken alfredo pasta, pep pizza, and cheesy garlic bread. Mouth watering, i needed a to-go container for sure.
Great pizza, very good pastas, my favorite was Italian sausage. Tasty salad. Nice open room for the birthday party. Staff was very attentive, quick to get fresh plates. Pitchers of ice water at all the tables. First time there. Nice free parking lot behind restaurant or street parking. Mini desserts above average. I would definitely go back.
The strudel, pizza and desserts are all great. The food is very fresh and tastes very good. I will return.
Lots of good food and not bad prices. Located right on Taylor Street its the perfect spot and has a great atmosphere. The only complaint I had was the dish I ordered warm I dont know if its sat around but it was good nonetheless. I will be back again. All the food I saw looked amazing and Im sure tasted amazing.
I just CANT say enough good stuff about this place... But it was DEFINITELY THE SAFEST SPOT IN CHICAGO while I was in there. Im guessing there were about 50 plainclothes up in there, all packing of course! And the place was IMPECCABLY CLEAN!!!!! I mean SPOTLESS!!!!! (Even the bathroom!)All the food was GREAT! We had Sausages with Peppers and Onions, Spicy Meatballs, a Pepperoni and Cheese Pie and a Pompei Pie.ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL is the ONLY way to describe it!
Fast. Id say prices are $$ instead of $. We were satisfied with everything except the chicken parm dinners 👎🏼 fell short 🤏🏼 the pasta was bland not enough sauce and the chicken was tough- tasted over microwaved? Or overcooked? Or like it was re-heated someway lol. Not too good for $15 plate but the portions were good. I applaud them for offering dine in during this time. Id recommend the wings too. Enjoy.
Second night in a row here for me. Last night was spaghetti with calamari gravy which was amazing! Tonight, meat lasagna. Homemade pasta and fresh bread cant be beat! Love this place. Their deserts are killer. Have had the cannolis and cheesecake. Both amazing.
My food was hot and it tastes very good the service for takeout was prompt My overall experience was quite well.
I think the original recipes (if original Italian) werent carry out very well or died sometime ago. Just another wanna be Italian in a city fully influenced by my ancestors. Not bad for a buffet though.
Beautiful restaurant with delicious Italian style dishes. Great atmosphere and very helpful staff. Went here with family and would definitely recommend it to others!
Had the chicken parm...want the best Ive ever had but it was tasty. No servers, you look at the menu on the wall and the order and they give you a number and bring to your table. More of a family spot
Tasteless food. Ravioli edge was hard. Veg pizza slices had no flavour and base was hard to cut. Food was lukewarm. Garlic bread - disappointing. Couldnt finish our food. Will never return. This place is like some weird cross between a restaurant and fast food joint.
Hubbys choice for lunch. Loved my salad. We were lucky to find a parking spot...as this place is popular.
Food was great and the service was quick and efficient. It was a bit crowded considering the unique times. I would recommend a different table configuration.
We LOVE Pompeii! Were only in that neighborhood once or twice a year, but we ALWAYS go there for those pizza squares. Yum!
The food is similar to what I would expect for Italian fast food but the Alfredo was very bland and and pizza was not that great either. The main issue were the chewy bits in the Alfredo sauce as the menu does not have meat listed in the description but as a vegetarian I was a little concerned at what these bits were... The crust for the pizza was decent though. Food was not really worth the price. Hoping we just caught them on an off day.
One of my favorites. Been going here for over 15 years. Great food. Cool restaurant.
This is a good place to take someone who needs a lot of options. It’s all Italian but there really is something for everyone- the pasta is good, the pizza is decent and you’re not over paying. With a nice patio seating there’s plenty of room for larger groups
Went around 8.30pm on a weekday and we could get a table easily. Ordered a cannoli, pompei pizza slice and pepper mushroom chicken pizza slice. Crust was good and overall a satisfying experience!
My brother in law had a retirement party there it was great the food was good and great customer service they were very nice and made sure everything was OK,I recommend having your party there
Oh this place has had a piece of mine and the wifes heart for best 20 years as this was probably the first place wed gone to eat together... Theres not a item on the menu to disappoint!!
Seriously love this spot been coming here both on and off duty for years. Was finally able to sit down and eat a delicious meal INSIDE again which was amazing. The only complaint I have is the filling in the cannolis is not as sweet as I would like at all. Keep up the good work and thank you for being a staple for the best Italian food for so long!EDIT: On my most recent visit I tried something completely new that I saw a picture on the menu and at the recommendation of the knowledgeable staff. Found my new favorite entree as a result thank you!!
Food is just amazing! I highly recommend the Sunday special Rigatoni in vodka sauce.
Everything was as a good but not worthy of 5 stars. The cheese pizza I got tasted like Chuck E. Cheese pizza with a better seasoned pizza sauce. If I could I’d give it 3.5 but if I had to choose between 3 or 4 stars I give it 4.
A great Italian Restaurant with a hugeselection of pizza, salads and soups. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large.A great value .
I LOVE their chopped chicken salad. Its my all time favorite. I havent had a salad that can compete with Pompeiis salads. Theyre pricey, but so worth it!
The food was horrendous. everything was cooked wrong. It was so obviously frozen and microwaved. Food comes out too fast(giveaway that its frozen).
Staff was veey nicw and hwlpful. Thw foos was delicious. We lovwd thw gelato!
Review is on the brownie only! OMG! Before I could even snap a picture, I ate it all! Every bite was indescribable! So fluffy, so chocolatey, crispy edges! Ooohh this was sooooo good! I would definitely recommend this would any meal!
We got stuffed pizza, strudel, cream vodka pasta, and tiramisu. All delicious and affordable! Loved the pasta because it was well balanced sauce and al dente pasta. The pizza and strudel were flavorful. Tiramisu had creamy layer. My only comment is that the cocao powder on top was thick and a bit too bitter to my liking. But still wonderful dessert.
This place was hella good. i ate out here with my cousin after winning a basketbal game and they had healthy options like salad and rice but also tasty options like pizza and stuff. they also had brownies and cake!! they also had a bunch of drinks ike fizzy pop (coke, fanta and shi) and also just water (ofc). thewhoops, my bad for thetypos and stuff but the reason i gave mfour stars is beacuase.. eRRHERMMMToo many white people. They stared a lot and they made me and my teammates feel very uncomfortable as we were walking in. Other than that, the food and services were awesome! 5 - 1 stars!
Amazing food, amazing service! Will definitely return, and suggest to others.
The food was delicious and fast. I plan to go back for the delicious salads.
Just came here, and had the most tender fried calamari. The meat sauce is a bit different, but great. The ravioli is also amazing. Will be back for the calamari.
20 years later, its still got the best tiramisu.
Friendly, courteous, great atmosphere. Clean and so organized. Food is so delicious!!
Ordered takeout: chicken & broccoli fettuccine & salad. Food was plentiful but very bland.. No seasoning and tasteless cheese flavor. It was not the best Ive had from them.
Overpriced, and the asparagus salad is awful (the asparagus was not fresh and soaked in oil). The interior is fine
Delicious place! Friendly staff & boyfriend lost wallet they gave him to him. So honest too :)
Delicious pasta. You walk up to a counter to place your order, they give you number and they bring your food to your table. I had the caesar salad, gnocchi with vodka sauce, and my friend had linguini with vodka sauce and cheesy garlic bread. Portions were big and wait staff was friendly with fast service. My food was brought to me within 5 minutes of ordering!
The food was absolutely disgusting. Will not be going back. Such a disappointment
Everything I’ve eaten here is delicious. It our family favorite!
Pizza and salad was great!! Quick service and decent price
The pasta and salad wasn’t even of quality for it to cost me the amount I paid. Don’t waste your time here, there are so many better Italian food options with better food quality.
Need two salad dressings with large salad. The salad was fresh.
Good prices and great service. Food is pretty good too.
Love this place. Can order single servings of pizza, Stromboli, etc. Great salads! I even bought the salad dressing to take home it was that good!!!
Pompeii is consistantly delicious! Heart healthy pizza is a must. Salads are good but seems only difference between large and small are the greens. Toppings dont seem to change with salad size. Dont pass on the lemon knots!!!
Excellent price for the amazing and big portions. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The Food was good!! I liked it ~ I will be going back
Reliable Italian eatery in the Taylor St. area. I love their Spinach Lasagna. They have great salads and always have good specials.
The food was really good and I loved the table arrangement. The next time we visit I would like to dine in. I had the chicken linguine w/ brocolli and my husband had the spaggetti with meatballs.
Just picked up herb chicken ravioli. Ravioli hardly cooked. I am not use to such chewy ravioli and I remember the sauce being more creamy and not like a vodka sauce. Haven’t had in years but drove down there to get and disappointed.
Was with a party of 4, ordered the chicken parmesan, lasagna, baked ziti, garlic bread and bruschetta.Everything was bland. Very very bland. Almost everything was left uneaten, and we all ended up picking up some Japanese down the street to actually get a meal. The food in Chicago has been great, but this was a HUGE EXCEPTION.
Amazing restaurant. Staff is super friendly. My favorite is a slice of pepperoni with calamari. A little pricey but worth it
Came to Pompei for dinner last night and hadnt been there in over 15 years.Everything was delicious per usual, I was relieved to see they offered gluten free options. I ordered the daily special which was pasta with fresh tomatoes garlic and olive oil(and I subd regular pasta with gF pasta)It was soooo good...and I also ordered the build your own pizza slice, I had gluten free crust, fresh garlic, mushroom and basil (no cheese...also have a dairy allergy) it was also very good ...It was like having an nice crunchy alternate bruschetta to enjoy with my pasta. I guess my only gripe would be that Pompei would invest in a good dairy free cheese (2 ...vegan shredded mozz and a vegan parmesan)Dairy allergy/intolerance is almost as common as gluten ..and they do such a great business...I would hope they strive to accommodate more people. It was difficult looking at all the items that I used to be able to eat and not have a close substitute- but definitely happy nonetheless with the gluten free menu items I was able to indulge. Please consider expanding with some dairy cheeses in the future, Pompei!!!
Horrible fake Italian food! Dont go
Historical place, very nice food, fast service, variety, lots of good choices for Pizza and other Italian dishes, portion size is quiet Big, I am not sure if it should be that big :-)Loved it, one point though, the servers and staff is INERT, not involved and not interested, gives kind of high-volume retail store feeling.
Nice, quaint restaurant with intimate seating in a casual atmosphere. I had the baked moustaccioli with smoked tomato sauce. The dish was very cheesy and had a strong sour taste. Its not quite my preference, but it was a decent change of pace. The service was quick. Our family made an order which the service person said would take 10-15 minutes to get, but it really only took 3 minutes. Price to portion is decent, and I still have half of my portion still left.
Food is consistently fresh and delicious. Everything on the menu is excellent. The prices are very reasonable. I catered calamari gravy, baked clams and seafood salad for Christmas Eve and was beyond satisfied. My family loved it.
Thought it was a sit down restaurant. Had Chicken Parmigiana sandwich. Terrible. The bread was better than chicken. Never again.
Inexpensive, fast, and delicious. Order from their buffet or anything off the menu. It’s all good.
Decided to eat in Little Italy today. We parked and decided on going to Pompei. We hadnt eaten at this location before despite coming to the area often. When entering this location you go to the counter and order as you go down the line. You pay, get your number and drink cups and then go find a table and get your drinks as well. Once you find a table you put your number in the metal holder and they will bring your food once its ready. The portion sizes are definitely decent here and you shouldnt have a problem being full. We ordered 3 items, ceasar salad, chicken parmigiana, and pasta fagioli soup. The soup I ordered large and probably could have been ok with a small order. It was good soup, kind of cold, not excellent but still a favorite of mine. The chicken ceasar had to many croutons and also the chicken was dry and cool. The chicken parmigiana came with pasta with sauce and there is definitely a good portion. Chicken was dry as well buy flavor was good. You also get a basket of breads with your meal. We had eaten out where the garage doors are open and it was pleasant except for a bunch of flies hovering around the fan area to the right of us. I would recommend this restaurant to people, unfortunately little Italy is losing most of its Italy. If you come here now, most of the restaurants and stores are not Italian anymore which used to be why many of us came here.
Over decades pompeis has consistently serves delicious foods. Try everything! It all tastes good.
THE CHICKEN AND BROCCOLI SOUP IS AMAZING ❤
Consistently good food. Nice staff! Usually easy parking.
I’ve been coming here since grad school . Original Pompeii was small, friendly and delish! It’s the best!!!
Wide range of quick italian food, but packin with flavor in every dish. No matter whether you get a salad, strudel, pizza, or pasta. It will all come out filling and delicious.
Really unique selection of both Greek & Italian dishes!Family owned & operated since the 1940s!
This place has been one of my all-time favorites since my early University student days. Ive enjoyed everything I have eaten there- soups, salads, and desserts alike- but I keep going back for my beloved Pizza Pompei. I could eat that every day for the rest of my life and be happy. ❤️
If olive garden was family owned... It would be here. Okay. Not bad. Not amazing... Just okay /good.
Best place for lunch in Chicago. Great food and great service. The price is right!
Great homemade food like your Nonna would make if you were lucky enough ti have a Nonna!
Good selection, I had a the works Strudel, would have preferred more meat & less vegetables. Also, wasnt hot, kinda warm in the middle but the outside was toasty hot.
Tasty dishes here. Quiet at 5:00 on Sunday, but quick service nonetheless. Pay to Park on street parking, but no charge after 5:00.
Old school institution, been coming since it was a mom and pop storefront, kept the old recipes and it is very tasty you will know why the signature pizza pompeii pizza is second to NONE!!!
Went here for a family memorial dinner. The food & service was very good!!👍💖
Customer service excellence, calamari was delicious cook perfect and fresh, Italian chop salad always fresh .
I purchased Eggplant Parmesan on Pasta, half order of Spaghetti and two meatballs, salad and soup. Very disappointing. The Eggplant Parmesan had a scant amount of sauce on the pastas and the Spaghetti. Very dry, the meal was terrible.
The food was not what I expected it to be. Your best bet is to go with the pizza because everything else not something I will order again.
Delicious Italian food. Get a slice of pizza or stuffed pizza if on the go..they undercook it so they can pop it back in the oven to finish it hot and delicious....sit down Italian food other than pizza. Located in U of I @ Chicago campus area, its a favorite of College, Police and EMS personell. That says something!
