Theyre as 3 star hotel but theyre really a 2 star roach motel. Many of the very positive reviews seemed like they where really about the Best Western nest door (along with many of the pictures) or where vague with very little info about the rooms (like they were fake) . Theyre not worth the price they ask. Our room initially had no towels,(They quickly put 2 towels in the bathroom when told but thats basic) The wall on the left side of the sink had metal brackets where a towel rack must have been. The tub corner had black mold/mildew, the bath faucet separated from the wall when we tried to lift the diverter on it, The refrigerator was all scratched up (though I understand several rooms dont have any), the beds where not very comfortable/kind of lumpy. Minor issue but our door didnt securely close on its own. The toilet was very far away from the low quality toilet paper. The light was rather dim, only light in the room was from the lamp and several channels where cloudy. We did use blue light and many of the sheets looked relatively clean but some of the walls (especially the bathroom) looked rather gross. The motel had very steep steps with stained carpet, lots of chipped paint & dusty fire sprinklers. They dont have a fitness center, their room & hall kind of smell, the room outlets where hard to get to The staff was friendly but the office was closed, all business & breakfast (grab & go) was out of the best western next door (owned by the same person & seemed better maintained & much better quality). The website said take pride in keeping our property clean. & Sure, we could renovate but then we’d be just like every other hipster hotel. We’d rather you spent your money doing all of the great things our city has to offer! The last quote almost sounds like a threat, like if we where to renovate/update/or maintain wed have to raise our prices and you wouldnt want that. Theres a difference between renovating and just maintaining the rooms and motel, with the money they charge they should be able to.do so, along with supplying every room with a mini fridge and microwave..
Very inexpensive hotel considering we were in Hyde Park, just across Lake Shore Drive from Lake Michigan. It was not hard to walk or ride your bike to the shore with access to bike and pedestrian trails. The room was clean and well air-conditioned. My brothers room had a microwave and refrigerator, mine did not. My brother was able to park his car directly in front of his room, I could not and had to walk around the back side of the building to get to my room. Breakfast is not offered. It is not the Ritz-Carlton, but all in all it is good value for the money especially considering the location.
No ice machine close to your room. No local TV guide and very limited TV selection. On site cafe was closed. Bed was decent. Insects in room.
The photos look NOTHING like the actual room. This place looks like a flop house or somewhere you take a one night stand. The room smelled like staleness and of cigarettes. The staff was excellent BUT charged me DOUBLE to stay at the Best Western which is in the same building and managed by the same company. I could not stay in this hotel and I worked all day, flew in and was too tired to look for other accommodations. I paid for one extra night and will deal with it in the morning. The other hotel is was a little better but there was someone playing loud trap music in the room above me. I would stay far away fromthis hotel unless your standards are low. I felt like I might be attacked by bed bugs or catch a skin disease if I slept in the bed. Stay here at your own risk. Please believe I took out the time to write this review for a reason. I want to warn others.
In no way, shape, or form is this a 3-star hotel-as shown on Google. 1-star at best. Its as old as dirt. Its not particularly well maintained as described on the website. There were cobwebs in the AC vents for example. The only thing this has going for it is a friendly, helpful staff.
I arrive on Saturday the 3rd of July and was completely unaware of theRuff Ryder’s being there. I made a call to the front desk before stepping out of my car. The clerk assured me that it was safe. The Ruff Ryder’s extremely polite and inviting. The front desk clerk was above what I expected and made me feel comfortable of my stay. The two working July 4 morning were very young people but very professional. I’m booking for next year, same place.
Positive: The location. Negative: When I checked in I had to wait about 10 minutes until the front desk person finished up with someone else on the phone. As I was the only person standing in line the front desk person didnt even address my presence.
Low grate hotel with up scale price need up grated like a new rug new curtains new fixture that was once white is now yellow website is miss leading restaurant is closed and pool is closed too please if you fix 5 room at a time you would be doing a good service to future visitors. So it is a nice area but hotel not so much 🙁
One of the worst hotels I have been to. The room smelled moldy. There were nails sticking out of the wall with plaster spread on top of it. The carpet was dirty and brown. The lights had dead mosquitoes on the top of it. The wifi didnt work . And they overcharged to stay there.. $349.86 to be exact for two nights. Do not stay there.
Really nice clean maid service was great, I will return
You guys are really sitting here capping with these photos. Youre advertising your hotel one way knowing good and well thats not how it actually looks. (To the reply below) LOL thats cap and you know it 🤣😂
Positive: Like location Negative: We stayed for 5 nights, didn¿t have housekeeper came once. For 3 people had 2 towels. Never got refills for coffee. We took toilet paper from the lobby bathroom, put garbage from out room outside. Carpet in the room dirty. Top lock on the door ripped
Positive: Location Negative: No hot breakfast
The room was nice and clean, customer service was very nice . I Would stay there again when Im in Chicago 👍🏽❤
If you like the smell of stale cigarettes and like to be woken up repeatedly by people walking out the door then this is the place for you! First impressions is that it is a glorified motel. The Primary room amenities were a tv and coffee maker. Tv is dated and was damaged. The coffee maker did not work. Shower had good water pressure but had very little temperature Variability. Floor had not been cleaned and there were male enhancement pills scattered all over. Bed was made but did not seem like fresh sheets (cannot confirm but sheets had some stains). All in all the price is mediocre for what is delivered. If price is what you are looking for you are better off getting a private room at a hostel.
The room was nasty and looked absolutely nothing like the pics online. The TV didnt work and had broken wires hanging around. The shower curtain had a brown smear on it, I dont even wanna know what it was. The staff was so rude and didnt seem to care or want to help resolve these issues and did nothing. Will never stay here again.
The price is good and the location is great. The carpet could use a deep cleaning. The place is really loud with people running up and down the stairs and yelling throughout the night.
Cozy rooms and lobby, excellent service
If I could give zero stars I would. Please don’t stay here it is not safe or worth the price. Room was messy, with the bathtub looking like it hadn’t been cleaned and carpet very dirty, as well as a large gap in the door people could clearly see through. On top of the room there is no security what so ever, no cameras or security guards. My car was vandalized over night to the point where it had to be towed home (over 4 hours away), leaving us stranded in Chicago. When I went to the hotel to inform them of what had The hotel claimed that they were not liable for the damage, even though I never signed paperwork for the room, and also said “oh yeah cars get vandilized a lot around here, it’s a choice you made when you came to Chicago”. Called multiple times since my stay (checked out on may 11th), and was told they would call me back (obviously they didn’t). They wouldn’t do anything for us and didn’t show any empathy or care about our situation. Poor customer service, poor situation, horrible hotel. Please stay away from here.
Had a ball in the room nice.
Front desk Tesh &Josh have good Customer service. The lobby and room is super clean thank housekeepingI love n lime the place
The staff is very profession, they answer all questions with correct information, the rooms are clean! The prices are excellent, they remember regulars, love free available parking, options on channels for cable, hot water. I enjoy coming to the lakeshore!
The room was small considering the nightly charge, having to climb stairs was a challenge and the cups for coffee were dirty. Staff was very nice.
Didnt go inside. Used the parking lot to board 🥳 party bus
Nice and clean place
Nice4The Price
Well where do I start. I booked online for the Lake Shore Hotel, only to arrive and find a sign directing me to the La Quinta Inn next door. Okay.... go next door theres no La Quinta. So after 30 minutes of walking around I finally a lady that tells me that they change the name and its actually the Best Western Plus now. So I get checked in and go to the room. Room doesnt remotely look like the pictures. I have seen Motel 6 that were in better shape. So I go back to get to the hotel next door. Check out the Lake Shore and into the Best Western Plus. Service lady was nice and understanding. The room here was up to par. Very nice view of the lake. Attached pictures of note and the Lake Shore Hotel. Avoid it. The Best Western Plus is cool.
ANTS!!! Did not see any when I checked in but ANTS Were everywhere in the morning all in my bags when I got home.. this is the second time with the Ant problem.. first stay I had a 2 day reservation so e were hen I seen ants the next morning they gave me another room on the second floor.. this time I checked out.. but never again .. I will not stay at a bug infested hotel they clearly have s ant problem they need to handle..
Not what pictures online showed, was supposed to be in Best Western but put in Lake Shore. TV cable and phone did not work. Told front desk with no results. Booked room for 4 people....only had 2 towels and was cloths.
Very rude housekeeper no patience with me older customer. No microwave, and faded chair.
Our room was not as advertised and there were quite a few things broken in our room like the TV was really fuzzy n bad reception and it was not as big as it was advertised. There was no balcony like advertised.
Bugs in the rooms, mosquitos at the door. hot.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS NASTY !!!!!! PLEE STAINS AND BLOOD STAINS ON THE MATTRESS AND THEY RESPONDS THERES NOTHING THRY CAN DO ABOUT IT !!!!!!!! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!!!! Go on Facebook I posted the pictures!!!
No Bus Shuttle in DowntownPool ClosedUnderstandably this makes sense because of Covid but they shouldnt advertise it on websites. I had to wait in check out time for a long time. However the rooms were nice and and the location was great! Recommended for a 1 night stay for a cheap price..
Great hotel rooms are clean and parking is right at the door place usually book up on the weekend so reserve early if you know u are going to be staying.
Positive: The first time I booked a room,I was ecstatic about how it looked and the cleanliness of the hotel. This time around,I was not satisfied with my room or the location of it.I paid 4 a king size, smoking room and ended up with a double bed room.No refund issu Negative: I did not like the fact that I paid for a king size smoking room and I was issued a double bed room and still was charged the king size room rate.
Positive: Its location close to the lake and the towels and amenities. Negative: The room looked clean but it smelled like it had been been two months ago that it was cleaned and nobody ever went back in until we arrived.
Positive: The location is nice. Can’t beat the Hyde Park area. Negative: The people across the hall from us were very loud.
Rude and when they want to talk about about you will begin to speak Spanish in front of you not knowing Im black but speak it too.. manager is older and support whatever the arrogant front desk worker says never listened to.my complaint.
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with a 4.5 - 5 star stay until we met the breakfast bully. There was a lady standing guard, leaned against the wall with her arms crossed...just watching...no greetings. I attempted to butter the waffle iron. She aggressively approached yelling No! Dont put that on my machine!. I assured her I know what Im doing. She continued yelling No! like I was a child. I eventually was left alone. Then 5 minutes before breakfast ended, while I was dispensing my syrup, she turned off the lights and began speaking Spanish to another woman as they shut things down and locked doors. Other than that the room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed. The food was actually pretty good. My advice, book here but dont butter the waffle iron...or else.
Positive: It was fine!
Positive: Location Negative: Dated badly in need of renovations.
Decent place to stay, with free parking and easy access to the heart of Chicago. If you don’t want to drive, the train is just a few blocks west, and I had a lot of success with rideshares too. Would definitely stay here again, if the opportunity arises!
Great location! Very clean hotel. FREE parking. Parking garage area is smaller with limited spaces but convenient parking right in front and along side building. Breakfast was hot and fresh, and wasnt over at 8a.m. like some other places. Their staff is amazing! Friendliest weve met.
Positive: Nice staff, free parking Negative: Not really
Stayed two nights. This place is awesome. Well within walking distance of public transportation and restaurants. The staff is very friendly, especially the night clerk. Would definitely stay here again.
This is one of the nicest hotels weve been to in a while. Everybody was great from random customers to the staff. It was a very clean place and comfortable. We will definitely visit here again the next time were in town as well as recommended to others. Come here for a great customer service, a clean room and to get plenty of rest.
Positive: The area Negative: There was bugs in the bed
Was not able to sleep because of some loud people. They were yelling 1 floor beneath us till around 3am.
Oh how this place has gone down.
Everything was good except for a pretty rude receptionist. I would just think a well known hotel like Wyndham would be sure to have only the best and most hospitable and friendly and not to mentioned dressed presentably; representing their brand. The lady at the desk was dressed in what seemed like house clothes she just woke up in and was lounging around in the lobby couches with her friend or maybe another overly relaxed staff member when we came in. I didn’t even know she worked there until she got up after so long to assist us like we were bothering her. Not exactly the best first impression and during the holidays . We stayed there from New Year’s Eve until the 8th. Everything else was great, loved the free breakfast and parking was a plus even management seemed nice but still; the first impression will always leave an indent with any guest.
Positive: Location & free parking! Negative: Outdated. Room smelled like cigarettes when it was a non-smoking room
Nice lake view and awesome hospitality.
Warm room, huge bed. Fabulous restaurant/ bar with live band on Fridays. I didnt enjoy the store charging $4.75 for a 20 oz soda
Positive: Bed and TV were good. Negative: Guests and staff noise. No lobby staff on duty. Had to check in at adjacent hote. Furniture was from the 70s and beat up. Small room...it sucked.
Positive: The location, free parking, quiet. Negative: The room I anticipated getting was completely different from what was advertised. Carpet was dirty and dusty, made me stuffy all night.
Very warm and comforting location. Although for a funeral it was very well appointed and definitely made the time easier for my childhood friend to bury his mom. I appreciate the effort bestowed on this hotel.
Rooms are well decorated and designed. The staff throughout my stay was exceedingly helpful and accommodating as well.
The hotel was good. The entire front desk team was super nice and extra friendly. Wish I would have gotten their names to given them recognition for there help. Only down fall of the hotel, we went almost 2 days without face towels 😡 Everytime we asked housekeeping for towels they would say in 10 minutes and never show up. End up going into a vacant room when she was cleaning and took the 2 that were hanging in the restroom I explained to her that this room is vacant and Im a guest whos physically here so I should be priority and walked out. Still wasnt enough due to my family size was 4. Great location and awesome breakfast, and again the staff was great!
A great value for the money as this is one of the few hotels on LSD just south of downtown I would stay at. Free parking which is great. The room was clean and spacious. The front desk clerk was very nice and helped me when I had a late 1am check-in that night. They offer free breakfast but its really not good without adding salt/hot sauce. And its only hot eggs and sausage. They have cereal also. But no fruit or oatmeal. But they have a nice mini-Walgreen style area to get personal items and snacks/drinks as there is not a 7/11 close by.
Nice, clean facility. Comfy rooms and beds. Breakfast smells good every morning! Staff is fantastic and concerned over the little details. Full of great suggestions too. Plenty of green space for pets, even energetic ones like labs.
I really wanted to get 0 stars
Excellent location. Walk to beach, Wholefoods, tons of restaurants and lots to see in historic district. Bathroom useful, not a lot if counter space, bar to help getting out of shower, workout room and decent breakfast. Close enough to walk to beach and hotel shuttle and public transportation. Staff very helpful and friendly.
The good: The office staff was very friendly, the room was clean and the free parking was a nice bonus. Great neighborhood and a really pretty park about a block away with a large playground. Theres also a pedestrian bridge in that park that will take you across Lake Shore Drive to the water. We were able to get some great pictures of the Chicago skyline from there. The bad: The coffee maker in our room didnt work properly. Parking was free, but it was nearly impossible to find a place to park on a Sunday with the restaurant crowd. We had to drive around the parking lot multiple times waiting for someone to leave just so we could check in.
Room sizes were FANTASTIC! However we were above the garage so the floor was pretty cold, even though it was carpeted. But the hotel is close to so many things! Easy access to shops and all the great spots of Chicago!
Im sad to say that our experience was not good. The only polite staff member we encountered was the lady serving breakfast. The room was clean. We asked when we made the reservations for early check in. We were traveling from out of state with our dogs and when we arrived were told our room wasnt ready until usual check in time. So we had to find a place to chill with 2 dogs in a car for nearly 2 hours. We contacted customer service and even they told us there was nothing available. I guess I dont understand why the room wouldnt be ready when we told you what time we would arrive and you knew ahead of time. The bed is beyond stiff, one of the lamps was broken, and the assigned lot for hotel parking filled up so we had to park in another lot and walk to the hotel. Our door looked like it had been kicked in at some point which was concerning. Despite all that, the internet is fast and the breakfast is hot.
The location by Hyde Park is perfect for visiting the University of Chicago. The people who work at the hotel are friendly and helpful. I have stayed here often. It is always clean and quiet.
The rooms are very nice! Very spacious room and bathroom. The hotel itself is very well kept. The staff was friendly. I liked the location because its close to stores, etc. Not as much traffic to deal with. Only issue I experienced was the parking. But free parking at a hotel in Chicago is wonderful!
We would have enjoyed the expedite and visit her but one thing just ruined the whole trip for my parents and us. The receptionist that works nights; specifically during the New Years Eve week is not really friendly and is very under-dressed and overly relaxed. Shes always sitting in the lobby chairs when I come to the lobby and never greets us. The automated lobby doors dont seem to work properly and I was struggling with bags to come in the lobby but the doors wouldnt open she was just sitting on the lobby chairs staring at me for a few minutes before she slowly got up and opened the lobby doors.I just would expect more from an employee who is supposed to represent the face of La Quinta and Wyndham . But then again this was the south side of Chicago and not the downtown locations where we are used to getting shown excellent hospitality and customer service. Never again this location . Very disappointing.
Stayed here this past weekend and had a wonderful experience. The hotel seemed to be booked solid, but was very quiet, never heard any excessive noise and the other guests were very courteous. Every staff member I had contact with was extremely friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was great, a little crowded, but that is to be expected with a full hotel. Some of the reviews on here state the rooms are dirty, but mine was very clean and comfortable. You will be hard-pressed to find a better hotel with free breakfast and free parking so close to downtown without paying an obscene amount of money. Some of the more negative reviews on here must be from people who dont stay in hotels very often or expect way too much from a hotel. I would definitely stay here again!
I payed to much money to not have a microwave and fridge. Period. Ill Never go again Ever. And I wouldnt suggest anyone else to go..!!!!!!!
My husband and I and our 2 small children stayed here for 3 nights. Upon our arrival in the room. I spotted a very tiny dead bug on one of the beds. I pulled back the cover to see 2 tiny dead flies. I took off all the sheets and requested new ones. We had a water view room. The window to the view was incredibly dirty with webs and bugs, therefore not making our view to appealing. The breakfast was decent. The young lady who worked on the weekend was very pleasant. Other than her, the staff here was not very hospitable. The elevator was broken for 95% of our stay. Since we walked up the stairs most of our time, I noticed that the stairway was extremely dirty dusty and the doors were sticky. Overall I was not happy with this hotel and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Positive: Staff and overall professionalism Negative: nothing
A little worn . But clean . Staff was so helpful . Had a issue with ac offered to change my room or fix it . Two guys came and swapped out air conditioning unit was so polite. I appreciate a job well done. Thank you will stay again .

This hotel was the best. We originally had booked a one bed room for two guests, and when we arrived they said we could change to a two bed room for the same price. It was very nice and clean, and the hotel staff was quick on getting the rooms clean. We even left a tip, because of how great it was. Would come here again.
The staff were very friendly & helpful. All went out of their way to speak to us & were very accommodating. The room was very comfortable - loved the beds!
Great location to capture the Michigan Ave vibes
Quiet and Low Key
Will not stay again. Poor customer service. My girlfriend lost her Apple watch. This was in mid March. Called multiple times to try to see if it had been found. Would have some excuse and would state they would call back. But never would. Was going to be in the area, so called again on July 4th. Again no returned call. The watch was then turned on July, 6th at an address 15 minutes away from the hotel. Called the hotel to provide them with the address and see if they would look into if an employee kept the watch. They would not look into it. The watch was again turned on at the same address today. Local authorities do not seem to concerned with helping someone from out of town by phone. And the hotel wont help. So ensure nothing gets left behind.I am a traveling worker. Wyndham hotels will be my last resort for a stay as I called their customer hotline to only be hung up on multiple times after being transferred.
Pros:- Majority of staff is friendly and helpful- Majority of staff do their job quickly and efficiently- Hotel is clean- Free parking- Decent location- Eggs and rotating protein at breakfastCons:- 15 to 20 minutes from downtown- Disconnect between departments means we were bothered FOUR times about checking out, despite me having ensured upon check-in that our reservation was a day later- We were asked to check out and re check-in immediately, where other La Quintas simply do this for you behind the scenes- Two of the front staff are unprofessional; one of them laughed at my partner when he asked for assistance, and the other gave attitude when asked questionsBottom line: Im an Elite member, so have been with La Quinta for a while. While two of the employees are agitating, its not enough to detract from the other staff members who work to keep this hotel a great place to stay.
The room was very clean and staff were very helpful. The pool is great and the fitness center is great I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again.
This was a very nice very clean Ur spacious Room and a very busy area of town. Parking was small but lit and I enjoyed being there downtown Chicago. Amenities were plentiful breakfast was nice coffee in my Room maid service kind and sweet always took care of us. A very good experience price decently if you ever need a good motel not afraid to drive downtown this be a good place
Love this place. Great rates, just off Lake Shore, free parking. Yummy breakfast. Good economical choice with perks, including 49th street beach.
Location was close to downtown . breakfast was good but more choices on muffins like chocolate chip muffins would have been a plus for kids. They have complimentary shuttle to downtown which is a plus. Check in and checkout was easy. Rooms were very new. Corridor outside was a little smelly but front desk took care of it immediately. Their housekeeping staff were excellent and took extreme care in keeping the room clean
Clean, no signs bed bugs (I stripped the bedding) or mold, some moderately loud neighbors, but staff quickly quieted them. Easy check in and out, friendly staff. Big room. Safe neighborhood. Free parking. Comfy beds. Noon check out. Good price. I dont know why any one would complain about this place, older decor?
I was delayed and couldnt check in on the day of my reservation. So, I called and had them hold my room. I was told I was all set to check in the next day. Got to the hotel and was told my reservation was cancelled and they had no rooms available. I wont be staying at a La Quinta any time soon. Also, the area sucks and there are limited dining options within walking distance.
Clean stay professional work and people will definitely recommend! But will always remind me of someone..! Smh
I had a great time while in Chicago at this hotel. Its a central location to all sides of town, its on the Lakefront & it has a pool. The prices are reasonable. Its Very clean & the free parking is a plus.
So I can only speak from my experience so Ill do just that regardless of all the negative reviews here. The staff was polite and friendly. They answered all of my questions. The rooms were quite clean. It looked somewhat updated. No complaints on anything other than two things. First off pull off the photo and description of the pool, because one that had been sitting empty for years does not really exist. I think people wont necessarily think to ask if the pull has water or not. Second thing, the one brown fuzzy blanket made me itch, so I didnt use it. And the snack machine needs more options. Other than that no complaints. Also the ice machine in the lobby was convenient.
Staff very nice & helpful. Room comfortable, attractive & clean. Complimentary breakfast has good variety & is tasty. Room reasonably priced. Will use this hotel again.
Overall is good and clean. Good location. Breakfast is so so. On the second day of staying access cards just stopped working. We were not able to get into the room. Receptionist very quickly gave us new cards and just said - it happens :)
Our room was nice, clean, and well maintained. Breakfast was very good and the lady working there was fantastic. Very friendly. Will stay here again next time in Chicago.
