Before covid.. did not need appointment.Appointments are needed, easy to schedule and replies are within days.We scheduled an appointment to adopt a kitten the following week! Thanks to all the workers and volunteers!!!
Had a hard time getting through for them to answer the phone but finally got to come in at 130 people were extremely friendly and kind like they cared thumbs up
My daughter and I dropped off 5 stray cats that we found. The facility was not very hard to find. The staff were very professional and we saw perfect examples how they handle positive and negative interactions from customers. My hats off to them for their Stellar customer service skills.
Had the best adoption experience here. Worked with Jeanine, who had an impressive and honest relationship with the animals available for adoption. She helped us find a cat who was the perfect fit for my older brother - theyve bonded so quickly and well over the last week or so. In a world of uncertainty and worry with the pandemic, CACC did a great job bringing some happiness to my family and a safe and loving home to another cat. And not to mention, Jeanine gifted the adopted cat with so many thoughtful gifts and a box - all included with the $65 adoption fee. Setting up the adoption did not take too much of a hassle, just a bit of a wait because it was the holidays.
Based on the reviews, While the shelter is ok the ordinance for animal control is the the pit for dog owner. Anyone can make a complaint that is with bogus, as long as an animal control officer or policeman signs it the City of Chicago can hold pseudo court, named administrative hearing in most cases the pseudo judge will find you guilty. The biggest cash cow the city of Chicago has created with the approval of the State of Illinois legislatiors.
We adopted a cat and so in love with her. Im going back to adopt another cat and a pit... they all deserve love. Anyone that feels they should be put down, someone should put you down... If you dont like animals JUST SAY THAT!
This shelter mainly have pit bulls, bully mixed, and old dogs that theyre trying to push off on the public. These dogs and other aggressive breeds are better off on a farm or put down. They have no place in the city and usually are return because they are a problem. The shelter rarely have any puppies which are usually housed in shelters up north but not out south.
I found a dog laying in the street, so after taking her to the police station to see if she had a chip (she didnt), I took her to Chicago Animal Care and Control. They took her in, provided me with her identification number to keep track of her. Within a short period of time, they had tended to her injured paws and bandaged them up, given her a bath, named her, and completed a short video of her so she could be found or adopted.Aside for how long it took a staff to let me into the back of the facility to drop the dog off, the process was pretty seamless. I love the work that this facility does for animals.
The City of Chicago has got to do more on financing the Department. There are not enough people to do the great work the few who show up every day, who perform a selfless job...to care for animals and help people better understand the animals they have! Great job Animal Care and Control.
I done called them five times for a dog that has been hit by a car which was severely injured in the back leg area! Every time I called they had said there was no operator available and to give a message and call back it has been an hour and the dog is hiding behind an abandoned house across the street from me and is hopefully not dead. It’s crazy how they can be called care and rescue but clearly don’t have the time to come rescue a dog that is fighting for his life! I couldn’t get close enough to take the dog myself he wouldn’t let me get near him or I would have been there at the animal hospital for him💯 They said to leave a message and they will call back and hours later still no call wow good job “care and rescue” learn how to do your guys job right fr!
😊 I love this place for my pets health and well-being very sincere people to trust them with your loved pets
Im so grateful to this rescue for helping me adopt my two sweet kitties! I toured the facility and met some of the cats with Denise, who was so kind and helpful, and obviously had a lot of love for the animals there. The facility is nice, and didnt seem overly crowded. I would highly recommend adopting from CACC! Im forever glad that I did.
I was leery of bringing my cat son here for adoption after reading the reviews however I was surprised by how helpful the staff was. The security officer was only doing her job with telling me the correct hrs to surrender a pet (I was 4hrs too early). However she did suggest that I speak to a supervisor. I told her there was no need the rules are the rules, but she suggested I do because I might can be accommodated. The supervisor came and I expressed how the security officer did her duty of informing me of the correct time but that the process of giving my baby up for adoption and dealing with a grandmother that is hospitalized was weighing heavy on me. She made an exception and received my Boxer Baby and I was grateful. The security officer made me feel better, the supervisor made a tough decision for me, and the intake clerk expressed empathy and was kind. I now pray that Boxer is adopted into a loving home and that he is treated well while staying there.
Every one was wonderful and very helpful and accommodating. Thank you for your LOVE of animals.
I had an excellent experience with the volunteers. I met some beautiful dogs and will adopt one. Thanks Suzanne and Olivia.
Tip - Make sure that all family members are present to adopt - and need permission from your landlord. While this place does need some improvements, I adopted my best friend from this place and I encourage anyone looking for a companion to consider an animal in need from here.My pups was an owner surrender and it must have broken their heart because this little guy is a dream. He needed a little coaching and training but now I cant imagine life without him!Easy parking on the side or on the street.
Found a Kitten… Took it right in. Easy Process. So Glad they Are Around for animals.❤️💯💪🏾
The amount of care these officersgive to the animals are Amazing. The facility was clean and well kept no smells it anything. Animals are safe and cared for,and my dog and I were reunited. Very professional experience
They take really good care of their animals
I had a interesting time and came home with a new friend thank you
Please adopt a pet. They are very helpful and you are able to do research regarding the pet you would like to adopt.
Nice workers, seemed to really care.
I love volunteering here! The dogs are all so special and unique and it is really rewarding to help them find their way into loving forever homes.
I have an amazing experience with adopting a female pit named Luna. I worked with Olivia and Sia and they were both amazing! They helped me get everything set up even though I was 2000 miles away in California with the Marines. Once I got home I drove out and everything was already set for if I took Luna home. The process was very simple and everyone was amazing! Would highly recommend!
I wasnt serviced very well and a dog was in Pain at the front of the shelter barking and crying and growling for a long time l was very afraid he would attack some one
Worst experience, bad service money hungry city, ran by idiots
Very helpful and caring, good experience.
This place was clean and organized. We strongly recommend anyone come here when looking for a pet. We came here to get my mother a new kitty friend. Krista in the cat room was extremely patient with us, and Jeannie at the main information desk was very patient, helpful, and knowledgeable. Mom adopted a cat named Celia that she renamed Ginger. She and Ginger have been together for like five days now and they are already deeply in love 🤩
Its tough place to go but seems MUCH better run than it was before. I help rescue dogs so come here to pick up the dogs. Employees are super nice and genuinely seem to value the lives of the animals. Adopt. Dont shop!
Had to bring dog to be disposed of put in bag they handled didposal without a hitch
Everyone was great and compassionate as I was in tears dropping my baby off. But due to circumstance I had to give my baby up. I would like to say thanks to the staff from the first e mail to my drop off appointment they made me feel better. Thanking them and yes Im still in tears but I feel better leaving him with them and Tiger is great friendly loving pet for anyone. Thanks again CACC
Links that dont work, pages that cant be found, list of available animals with no animals, and no online application to adopt, just a form you have to print and scan yourself. Whos 9 year old child is running this agency?
I done emailed these people, done called the place about 25 times, they DO NOT answer…
The one in the registration place doesnt even attend good. She be mad and doesnt answers attends good.
🤠🤗🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Oh man! Be prepared to spend some time there, but a really wonderful place to find a pet. Weve adopted a beautiful young Pitbull female named Sheba. The sweetest dog in the world and enough energy to run a small town, LOL. Later on, we plan to go back and adopt some kitty cats. My youngest granddaughter must have kitty cats. She will love Shebaalong with her sister, but kitty cats are a necessity, LOL. Im glad Im retired because its going to be busy. The volunteers at this establishment must be commended because this is something that they dont have to do, they are there because they want to be. Go there and support this organization, adopt one of Gods creatures. Youre saving a life and doing good work bringing happiness to your home.🐂🐆🐅🐩🐕🐱🐱🐩🐆🐈
Very clean, nice staff, great dogs & cats to rescue, and they have a parking lot (free)! GREAT!
Have to be computer smart, knowledgeable.
My cat has been missing & a friend noticed a CACC listing that somewhat matched my cat. I contacted CACC by e-mail & they very quickly confirmed that the look alike was not my missing fur baby. I appreciate knowing that the unhappy kitty in the cage is not the fellow I lost, although I certainly wish it was!!!Thank you CACC for your quick resppnse!!!
Very friendly employees .Answered all the questions I had ...Clean establishment.
The procedure to adopt a dog is long!
I want to express my immense gratitude to the FCACC team for their compassion and unwavering commitment to Chicago’s homeless pets and especially for connecting me with my sweet shadow, silly sidekick, and emotional support feline responsible for getting me through 2020- Lando! FCACC rescued Lando not once, but three times. First as a stray scooped up by the kind folks at animal control and then again after being returned by two separate adopters, due to no fault of his own. I am so very thankful to FCACC for their continued insistence on his safe retrieval and I firmly believe the stability and gentle care provided by their remarkable volunteers sheltered Lando from what could have been a series of very traumatizing events for any kitty. Thanks again, FCACC, for giving my best friend the second (and third!) chance he deserved and giving me the opportunity to be his forever home!
Review meant for Harmony house for cats, not Animal Care and Control: I brought my 14 year old sick cat in to place her up for adoption and was willing to pay a fee. The lady who answered the door was under the mistaken impression I wanted to trade her in exchange for a free cat from her shelter. I admit my wrong doing in that I shouldnt have brought my cat without calling first, but it was it an embarassing assumption that my husband and I was looking for a free hand out. Second, the staff would not even let my husband and I into the facility! We brought an extra person with unannounced, but he was a necessity..a department of human services worker who drives my senior citizen places as he cannot drive. The staff who answered the door was very rude but at the same time, I give her (the staff member who answered the door) credit for referring me to care and animal control where I was able to put my 14 year old cat down as she was very sick and in bad shape. I appreciate her and her staffs opinion regarding this and give them credit for this. I want to say thank you to them and sorry at the same time for whatever bad impression we may have caused.
The people was nice and courtesy and very respectful Also very professional
My dog was found after almost 5 year’s from being stolen and Dr. Keller wanted me to take him home looking like this dirty, with bugs, nets, matted hair with sticky bugs all over him. They gave him his shots (which was $65 np)but refuse to bathe or shave him after the clerk(Nikki)said they would shave him but not bathe him! Dr.Keller said they can’t do neither one! Smh why would they insist someone take any dog out of there looking like this period!I’m hoping by tomorrow or one day this week they can get him together . Waiting on a supervisor to contact me back in regards to this. Also, this picture look better than in person
Its very good atmosphere and clean. Very courteous workers to help you with whats needed.
The lady at the front desk was nice. Gave me the information i needed. But im still waiting to hear back for them on adopting a cat.
I was able to retrieve my pet quickly
Friendly staff very informative. Good place.
They were very helpful to me and my wife
Had to take my dog to get euthinized, the staff was understanding and after spending a lot of money at the vet, they only charge $10 fee for euthanizing!!!
My son went to this place to adopt a cat. We found one that he liked but after sitting around and waiting for about 3 hours, they decided not to allow him to adopt, but it worked out fine, because a few days later he got a cat from someone and now he has 2 cats that he takes great care of!
The staff is great, they clearly care for the animals in their care. They provide food, shelter and vetenarian support including shots and a good dose of love and affection. Please consider CACC when you are considering adopting a cat or dog. These creatures need a loving home. CACC has the difficult task of caring for these lost and discarded animalsThey do an amazing job and the volunteer staff is an inspiration to all animal lovers. We adopted Abigail last month at a clear the shelter event. She is beautiful and a great addition to our family.
Honestly i wanted to give a dog a forever home. Thinking adopting is better then going to a puppy store.I completed a application and when I picked a dog to see they told me i cant see that dog and i must see only the dog they picked for me.
Great service!Very kind person
Great and very caring staff!
I love going this place
Horrible customer service very argumentative not willing to offer assistance
Sadly, I was there to drop off my daughters Guinea Pig that just pass away. Other then that they were very professional and kind. Great service.
Easy process. I did the application online. I went in and looked at the kittens and was given a date that I could come back and pick him up. On that date, I went back and picked up my kitten, I was in and out within 30 mins.
Great place, just make sure, during covid, to make an appointment and I think you have to be pre approved to adopt too.
Very nice facility. Knowing all of the staff is there to help sweet cats and dogs, they all are true angels❤
Amazing staff, very caring. Not to mention you get a id number to check on any animal dropped off. But truly an amazing place and staff. Way better than animal welfare hands down.
They don’t have a working number which is super unprofessional considering it is a city building. Makes it hard to find your dog on a website when the don’t post good pictures or any pictures at all of the dogs
Theyre doing a lot for the less fortunate animals of Chicago. I was surprised by how nice their setup is, considering the quantity of dogs they have here. So many loving faces ready to be adopted! If youre considering getting a pet, definitely come have a look to see if theres a good fit for you here. Rescue dogs are always the most loving! (They have a lot of cats here, too.)
This place is horrible and they also think just because of covid they have the right to be more lazy and horrible this place should be shut down I want to give it no stars............................
Well I work there I been working there for 24 year now and I just love it.
Quick and easy to pick up a cat for a rescue organization. The employees were nice and provided all the details on the animal being picked up.
My sister and I found a kitten in a parking lot. Cold and abandoned I thought it was dead. I picked it up and started towards home. We called everyone and everyplace we knew. We were advised to take the kitten to city anmial care and control. I would have given 5 stars but when I filled out the paper work I was asked if the kitten was a Chicago kitten. I was questioned about which parking lot he was found and was told he is a Cicero kitten. I found a kitten I didnt care to survey if he was found within city limits. He would have died. Im Chicagian trying to save a kitten and thats all that needs to be known.Let me add that everything afterwards went very well.
Best place in Illinois to get an adopted dog love CaCC
There are so many wonderful volunteers here and everyone is incredibly professional. The cats and dogs are treated well and CACC accepts surrenders from people that cant take care of their pet.My wife and I rescued an adorable, gentle pup after having the opportunity to meet him. Every dog we saw was worthy of rescuing. CACC posts videos of the dogs on YouTube as well, giving you an idea of how the dog behaves as well as interacts with other dogs and people. I highly suggest you check out the videos before visiting.Entering the area where adoptable dogs are kept can be a little jarring. Naturally, there is a lot of barking and other intense sensory experiences, but that should be expected when there are that many dogs in one place. Consider that before bringing children or sensitive people to the area. The adoption process was straightforward and didnt take long. The fee is very low and reasonable compared to other places that offer adoption, and CACC works hard to find good homes for the animals. We spent probably no more than a couple of hours there between meeting a couple of dogs we were interested in, submitting our application, and being screened for adoption. We walked out with a folder of papers offering a brief history of the dogs history at the shelter and general guidance on caring for the dog. Then we went home with our new family member and we couldnt be happier.
They can show a little more courtesy towards their customer whos trying to either bring in strayed animals or adopt
Very nice staff. Prices seemed fairly affordable. Animals were clean, well fed and not super frantic in their large cages. I wish I could had the money to adopt at least three dogs but it was around Christmas so I just wanted to see what it was like there and was inspired to come back with money to adopt a dog.
Very clean and nice employees. Volunteers put their heart and soul into helping the animals.
Great customer service, fast and friendly
I adopted a chihuahua from cacc and the process was very smooth. Im so grateful for my little buddy because he is so sweet and well behaved. I lost my dog Max last year and was really grieving. But eventually we got Major (who had a different name) and he is a joy.
Best place to get super cute and sweet dogs. Dont shop at dog stores, come here and get a sweet dog who would love yo be apart of your family❤❤❤❤
My heart is broken. I had been enquiring about a dog consistently for a few weeks waiting for him to be cleared for medical. I was finally able to meet him and was approved for adoption. I was really excited!!! I went out and bought a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff for him. Even though I had already received a phone call telling me he had been neutered and ready to pick up, once I got there I was told that I was no longer approved based on conditions that were fully disclosed during the adoption process. I can’t even express how heart broken I am. Let alone all the stuff I got ready for him. These dogs are stuck in a prison and I can’t rescue one. So sad...
Very friendly, caring people...clean, great people...nice place...they love animals...which the owners love their pets more :(
Trying to adopt so complicatedShould be easier
This is a great shelter from which to adopt animals. The employees are kind. Be sure to have identification for anyone who is viewing animals eighteen & older. Youll have to sign in before seeing the animals. It is always a good idea to fill out an adoption form prior to visit and bring with you. This is just in case you find a pet that youll want to take home. You can just add the animals identification number to your application. Bring the identification card with you to the front so you can be interviewed and the reviewer can have the animals information during that process. The fee is $65 which includes spayed/neutered, microchip not a GPS chip, and being vaccinated. You will need to register pet if you live in Chicago. That fee has to be paid to Chi Town. Best of luck!
We have been debating about adopting a pet and happen to pop in to check out the shelter. The volunteers there a WONDERFUL. Not only do they really care about helping with all the animals there but they want to make sure you are paired with the right pet. We ended up adopting a shy little cat, who has opened up and has been a great additional to our family. If you are thinking of adopting, stop by! The adoption fee is extremely reasonable.
Easy to navigate....full of information.
We went to their adoption event on Sunday after seeing it in the news. We looked at all the cats. We went through the full adoption process. 2 days later my wife received a call saying that the cat we were supposed to adopt was too sick to be adopted. We were told that we were welcome to come back and select another cat. We came back that evening at 6pm, 1 full hour before closing. We asked multiple times to see the cats. We were told repeatedly that there was no one available to show them to us. We waited for a half hour before leaving.1.) They should have fully checked out every cat before offering it for adoption.2.) They should have enough staff to help potential adoptersThis is a facility that euthanizes animals if no one adopts them. How sad is it that they had a couple standing in their waiting area ready and willing to adopt a cat but there was no one willing to show them one.
Found our beloved cat. Take your time as youll love every single one as you see them. They melt your heart instantly. Staff is awesome also very attentive and helpful.
