Terrible choice of living quarters. Grounds are filthy with trash and debris. Landscaping and lawn care do not happen. I asked about an extra charge on bill and I was told I would be contacted for an explanation. No return call but a $50 late fee assessed when the bogus charge was not paid for prior to explanation. Continual calls and no follow up.Called on August 11th to explain that my door would not lock and I neither felt safe nor did I trust the sake keeping of my valuables. Still today- no lock repair. I did not break the lock and simply wanted the issue resolved. The management team says that maintenance is too busy to fix my safety issue for nearly 30 days now. I believe they are very busy as this place in run down and in very poor shape. If you care about the quality of your living experience or your safety, please avoid this apartment complex.

I just moved in recently on the day that many people were moving in at the same time. There were many issues and confusing stumbles and roadblocks, which to me is expected anywhere. Anyway the staff, on this ridiculously stressful day, were beyond helpful and were able to solve my issues as well as many other peoples issues quickly while many more people continue to move in at the same time. Krista, Elijah, and Marrissa in specific were extremely helpful to me, Im looking forward to my stay here.

So sloppy. I ended up paying unnecessary fees and getting multiple charges that I shouldn’t have had to pay. I asked to get my dog removed from my lease and ended up paying for an additional month because staff did not communicate to get the lease re-done in time. Upon moving out I was charged for blinds that I had already paid to fix during a previous inspection but was never fixed during the course of my time living there. Expect many fees and don’t live here if you may not have the flexibility to accommodate them.

Please understand, there is a possibility that Cavalier Crossing may try to falsely charge you, especially after your contract ends. After I left, I received a bill for around $1,500 for a Damaged door... I had done nothing to the door, it was completely fine after I left.So Im guessing what management decided was Hey, its time for a new door. Why dont we just replace it and charge the previous tenant for the expense? I honestly can think of no other reason why something like this couldve happened. Also, keep in mind that I was a student, and had very little money to live at the time, so I couldnt afford $1,500 for a fraudulent charge. Here it is, years later, and it is the only collection in my account, and it has damaged my credit tremendously. I would have no regrets making payments to a collector for something that was legitimate. I feel semi-bad for writing this review, because management has changed since I left, but reading the other reviews, the functioning of the complex remains in the same condition.SOUTHERN MANAGEMENT SYST is the collection agency...Unless something is done, I really have nothing else to say

My husband had been in contact with Cavalier Crossing for over one month, keeping tabs on their availability because he was moving there for a job in the near future. When he got his start date, he called again (Friday, May 30th) and was told they would have a space for him within 1-2 weeks, if not before. So he extended his hotel stay and paid the application fee for these apartments. As soon as he finished the application, he called back to let them know he had finished his part and they inform him they won’t have anything for a MONTH. He spoke to the manager, who kept going back to March when he first inquired about an apartment, but kept completely glossing over the fact that he was blatantly lied to by staff and told to go ahead and apply under false pretenses. The manager said she was forwarding to regional, who would call back the next day, but here we are over a week later. All we wanted was a refund for the application fee, but apparently that’s too much for these people. Would definitely NOT recommend to a college student or parent of college students; that stage of life is financially hard enough without BS like this chipping away too.If they’re like this during application/leasing, one can only imagine how they are when you’re stuck in a lease.ETA: since I can’t respond back to the owner, regional called back and said they won’t refund the application fee. They had an opportunity to “make it right” from bottom to top and chose not to.

While the older reviews have negative things to say, I would have to disagree! I have lived at cav crossing for about a year now and I happily renewed my lease for another year. The management team has been nice to me and responsive. I may have lucked out with my particular apartment and room as I have yet to deal with mold or ants like others have talked about. I also love the cheap rent since I am an undergrad! Havent had the chance to use the shuttle since I have my own car but I think thats a great option to use!

Cavalier crossing has been a very solid place to stay for me over the course of my last two years of college! While the apartments are a few miles off of grounds, the rent is a good price compared to other apartment complexes and they offered furnished rooms, which also helps save money by not needing to purchase furniture. Cavalier crossing also has a shuttle that runs to UVA grounds at fixed intervals that makes getting to and from classes very easy (when classes are in person, of course). Another fun thing Cavalier crossing does is host many fun contests and giveaways so that the community can win cool prizes. Overall a very solid place to stay as a college student.

I’m very disappointed in the management and staffing of this place. I spoke with two different people trying to get my leasing agreement together and one woman told me that because They had to push my move-in date and weren’t able to move me in until June 20 that I would be able to have a reduced rent for that month because I would only be living there 10 days in the month of June. Then then it just became a game of phone tag until finally somebody got back to me two weeks later only to tell me that they arent able to give me a reduced amount for the month of June even though I would only be living there for 10 days. Soooo they wanted me to pay $1800 to move in on June 20 but then 10 days later on July 1 I would have to pay another $500. It just doesn’t make sense and it’s even more frustrating that one woman told me that they would be able to give me a reduced price but then somebody else told me that they can’t. It’s really disappointing and has put me off to wanting to live there. There are a lot of apartments in the Charlottesville area, my advice would be to look elsewhere.

This establishment is poorly managed. The communication among most employees is poor and they do not take pride in their work. For the most part they do the bare minimum, and when complaints are brought to them, they dont take full responsibility for falling short of their duties. The model they showed me was clean and smelled nice. My actual model was grotesque. When my mother and I first walked into the apartment to start unloading my stuff, the smell of grime and vomit hit you in the face. It was so bad that my mom started to cry because she did not want to leave me here in a dump like this. These apartments are meant for students and low-income individuals. Therefore, people are going to treat them as such. The carpet was absolutely repulsive. It was an ugly light brown color so you could see all of the dirty spots and the stains from the last decade of people walking on it with dirty shoes and vomiting on it. Luckily, about 8 months into my lease, they replaced the carpeting in the living room. However, management did not think it prudent to let us know with more than an hours worth of warning that the carpeting people were coming by. They called me in the middle of the day on a weekday to tell me that they will be there within the hour and to make sure that all of the items are moved out of the living room. Thankfully I had a job that was shift work and was off that day, but my roommates were not home so I had to drag everything by myself into the kitchen but I got it done and the place instantly smelled better. When I watched them roll the old carpet up, I was greeted with a sight of myriad brown and green stains that had soaked completely through to the underside. I was queasy knowing that I had been basically living with that carpet for the last better part of a year.Safety was also a humongous concern for us. I lived there for a year-and-a-half and there were five shootings there that I knew of, one of them happened at the apartment right across the hallway and the other one happened right underneath my second-floor window. Unfortunately, with low income housing usually comes crime and this place is certainly no exception. You have a gaggle of UVA students who are just there the party and study, but you also have actual street criminals living there who will shoot somebody else during an argument without a second thought and break into your car to take what you have (the latter of which happened to me three times). If youIm not really sure if this counts as a safety issue, but one time during the summer there was a humongous pool party that was not sanctioned by the apartment complex. There was literally almost 200 people jammed into the pool area and everybody was getting far too drunk. Fights started spilling out into the parking lot and the basketball court. Cops were called.I cant speak to the issues that people had with staff, they were always friendly to me and the maintenance was always done in a timely manner. However, other people have mentioned that the maintenance workers came into their apartment without prior notification and I did experience that twice.Overall, if I had a choice of whether or not to live here again, I would certainly not recommend it. They were just too many structural and personnel issues that made living here more stress than it was worth. If youre looking for something similar, albeit a little bit more pricey, eagles landing just down the road would be where I would live.

First of all, I was supposed to be taking over someones lease, I asked if there were any fees on my end and was told no. They then proceeded to tell me that they couldnt send me a lease until the got a $750.00 deposit, plus some hidden fees. I was told that cable and internet came with the apartment, to find out it didnt when I moved in.Then I locked my front door key inside the apartment, I left to get the rest of my stuff. I come back to find I cant get in. I called the front desk staff and they gave me the number for 24 hour maintenance, who didnt answer his phone when I called a dozen times. I called main office again, they tried calling him with the same results. I have continuously called for the last 30 minutes with no answer, and hes still not arrived. Ive lived in apartments where it took only 15 minutes for off hours maintenance to come let me in. I also asked how long it would be before I could get in, and got the response of Im not sure. I have lived here for more than a year and the quality described in the one star reviews is more than accurate. Even after coming over new ownership, the staff is so unhelpful that I had to consistently send e-mails to the corporate offices for things to become streamlined. The only people who would treat me like a human being were Arethea and another employee whose name I cannot remember. The worst feature of this complex is by far the maintenance team. It took 2 weeks for them to come to my apartment and change one breaker from the panel. I was a contractor, I know that it takes 5 minutes to change a breaker. My washer and dryer would consistently break down, and it would take at least a month for the maintenance crew to call someone else to fix it. I sent an e-mail to someone whom I was told was the corporate Head of Maintenance, Mr. Aaron Tadajewski, and his response could be boiled down to We cant have our maintenance team fix it because of the warranty from a SEARS retailer (which was going bankrupt). You and your roommates are probably overloading your washer. And on top of all of this, they still had the gall to raise their rates TWICE while I was living here and would consistently try to get me to renew my lease to avoid having to pay the rising rate. The only reason I did not move out of this place was because of the rent price and the access to a shuttle, however I take issue with the Night Shuttle schedule as it goes from departing every half hour to this schedule: Depart 5pm, Depart 6pm, Depart 7:30pm, Depart 8:30pm, Depart 9pm, Depart 10pm.I do hate to talk so negatively about the entire complex because I know that some members of the staff are decent people, but the majority of them are not.

If giving this place negative stars was an option, thats what I would be giving them. DO NOT LIVE HERE! They are really good at advertising their complex and making it look way better than it actually is.For starters, they give you a tour of a model unit which looks super nice, clean, and well maintained. However, the apartment in which I lived was not well maintained at all. I actually lived in two different apartments over the course of one year and both had many issues. In the first unit I lived in, the place was filthy. Scuffed floors and walls, carpets clearly had not been cleaned, bathrooms were gross, ect. This particular apartment was vacant prior to my moving in. The bedroom in the apartment I switched to midyear had also clearly not been cleaned prior to my moving in.Another issue would be safety in this apartment complex. Within the first couple of weeks of living here, a man was shot and killed at 11am on Cavalier Crossing property. A week later, my car and a few others were spray painted. Of course we could not figure out who committed the vandalism because there are no security cameras in the parking lots or on/in the buildings. There were break-ins that occurred while I lived there as well. I, personally, was afraid to be outside of my apartment after dark.Another issue I faced was getting things fixed in a timely manner. If there was a smaller issue that maintenance could handle on their own, the problem would be fixed quickly. However, this was not the case with bigger issues. My roommates and I had to live 20 days without air conditioning in middle of the SUMMER. The office acted as if the problem would be fixed quickly, but it was not. They did not compensate us through rent relief for our inconvenience. It got to the point that I thought I was going to literally have to take it to court in order to get my AC fixed because they had been dragging their feet. They gave no updates as to the status or time frame for the fix.The only person who actually seems to know what they are doing in the office is Chantal (GM). She was very friendly and helpful. However, I cant say the same about the rest of the staff. Aretha, the bookkeeper, in particular was extremely unfriendly and not at all helpful. I had to go to the GM in order to resolve issues in regards to the charges I received upon moving out of the apartment because Aretha wasnt helpful in resolving the issue.Literally the only good things about this place are Chantal and the maintenance staff (when it comes to things that can be easily fixed). Other than that, there is not a single positive thing about Cavalier Crossing. Yes, the rent is cheap. But trust me, it is worth the extra money to avoid living here.

My ReviewPros:- Cheap rent if youre an individual and want your own room/bathroom.- There is a basketball court that I use frequently.Cons:- Far from grounds. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes but sometimes your commute will be 30-40 minutes if it is during rush hour traffic. Dont underestimate how much a short commute (even walking distance) would be worth to you.- Pool is never really clean. At its best, you cant see through the murky water. At its worst, its a murky, green pond with chairs around it. Dont count this as an amenity.- Noise and safety are an issue. This place attracts a lot of shady characters, and as a result there has been at least one shooting I know of, and probably a lot of smaller incidents they didnt inform us of. Many of these people like to ride through the parking lot late at night blasting their music.- Management spends all their resources on marketing to lure students in and hardly anything on everything else.- Maintenance is also made up of shady characters, but they usually are nice and get the job done. However, it makes me uneasy that they can come and go into my apartment whenever they want.- Shady characters means shady neighbors. Personally, I am neighbors with a bunch of potheads. The hallway always smells like smoke, and sometimes we and other neighbors can even smell it in our own apartments. Management will do nothing more than put out a notice discouraging it.- Apartment was in poor shape when we moved in. Prepare to clean it yourself when you move in.All in all, I cant recommend this place to anyone unless you really cant find anything else that suits you. If I could go back, I would find somewhere closer to grounds that doesnt have such a shady community.

I’m pretty sure a few years from now I’m going to see a commercial that says, “Do you have health issues and been a resident of Cavalier Crossing? You may be entitled to financial compensation.” And I WON’T be shocked. The insulation is awful, bugs ALWAYS get in, and despite use and cleanliness the shower grows pink and black mold (my roommates had the SAME problem, also I was friends with residents in other buildings who ALSO had growing mold). They say they have a pool for the summer, but really they mean they have a cloudy, dirty, tub of bugs for 1 month, the next month it’s closed, and the month after it’s not cloudy, so you get to see all the dirt, bugs, and clumps of hair more clearly. Oh and don’t be shocked when you get in the hot tub and it doesn’t feel like any hot tub you’ve ever been in, they like to keep it cold for the “safety of the residents” so it can only get hot during office hours and they’re STILL Avery hesitant to put it to the NORMAL temperature of a hot tub. I wouldn’t wish this place in my worst enemy. When I first moved in it was smoky, dusty, and filthy and I had to clean my own room and common space. THE ROOM THE TOUR YOU THROUGH BELONGS TO THEM, yep that’s right, the people working in the front office and maintenance use that as a break room, and of COURSE they keep it clean, ask them to your you somewhere else and I guarantee when you see a REAL room you’ll run for the hill! I hope this review can save someone their money!!

It’s not a bad place overall but the people who work here, for the most part, are ridiculous. I ended up having to pay the self guarantor fee one month before it was due, after they told me the first time I didn’t need to do that. The lady in charge of doing my lease- takeover, was never on top of it and took her over a month to do, so we had to have the manager do it. So upon moving in I have found bugs in my room, to which I had to get spray and spray all over. So when I decided to renew my lease (kinda wish I didn’t) I paid the self guarantor fee and signed the papers online and they kept emailing me saying I haven’t renewed my lease. They also emailed my roommates saying they needed to move out or find someone who lives in an unfurnished apartment to move in. Once that was sorted, almost a month later to this day, they sent me an email saying I haven’t paid my guarantor fee. Which it says I did online so these people have no idea what they’re doing. They are planning on making all the rooms furnished so if you have furniture find somewhere else. Honestly, find somewhere else overall, I would not come here ever again. It has been such a process. They never keep the pool clean and never let you know when maintenance is coming by (which is illegal btw). My roommate got the email AFTER they had already come. Last year they did room inspections and didn’t give my roommate a notice when they were coming into her bedroom. This place is just beyond me. I’ll make sure to be counting my stuff.

The most horrible place to live in. My roommate party every night and are very nasty although I specified i am super clean and need a quite place to study. I went to the leasing office and they said there is not much they can do. They just wrote the lease in a way that you wont be able to terminate the lease. What a horrible people... what a horrible place...

Service is seriously in question, shady promotions and dirty unkept premises, unmaintained pool and a huge number of thug like characters, I am on disability so this was the only apartment I could afford in Charlottesville after moving out of my abusive home situation, they will not be receiving further rent payments until they start keeping up with the standard level of human decency I expect from an establishment that promises what they do on their websites. You wouldnt pay for bad food, why would you be expected to pay for services that arent being rendered.

I like my time here. The rental is a very good deal for student especially with the accormadation a they provided. The management team has changed lately and theyre working hard to improve the services. One thing my roommates and I were not satisfied at beginning is the cleanness and readiness of the room at the start of our leasing. It seems like they didnt ask the tenant to clean up and they didnt send their person the clean up either. But after we pointed out, they sent people to fix it. During the stay, the maintenance is fast and effective though. Overall, its good experience and I can definitely see the effort and improvement the management team putting in. Recommend this place to students, especially if you have a car and dont mind taking shuttle to classes.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. They get one star because I have to give them one to post and that is it. Living here has been a wild ride already, and I only just moved in in August. Upon move in there were numerous maintenance issues most of which have still been left unaddressed and some of which we had to threaten legal action in order to have them addressed at all. In four weeks we have already lost internet twice and power once. The power issue I can forgive - transformer broke okay whatever - but the internet issues are absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention the neighbors are sketchy and I have seen the police responding to something here multiple times. In the mere four weeks I have been here. This isnt even including all the stuff Ill leave unmentioned to maintain anonymity. Currently hunting for a new place to live because I am certainly not going be renewing my lease here.

Update: Now that Ive moved out, enjoy photos of the persistant black mold from my apartment (it grows in the pipes), and the giant pool party of trespassers in July! This isnt even the worst mold Ive seen at this complex.I have lived here over a year. Interactions with the office staff have gotten progressively worse because it takes them a week to reply to emails with one line, over a week to replace broken utilities, and over a month to e-file lease addendums (resulting in attempted fines and fees). Theyre quite prompt in reminding me (and everyone) to renew; however the renewal application is absurd, requiring a background check, a credit check, application fee, and two months of rent. The walls are paper thin. The utilities only work half-way -- but wait theyre upgrading to all stainless steel! They are focused more on recruiting new residents than keeping current ones happy. Apply at your own risk.

Absolutely horrific. I dont even live here but what my friends, UVa students, have experienced from living here is nothing short of awful. Either the management doesnt care about reasonable living conditions or theres not enough staff. Regardless, if you have any issues moving in, which you will, maintenance will be so slow or hard to work with that it may never be fixed. Management regularly gives less than 24 hours of notice for repairs, etc, and also is unprofessional as well as immature when handling issues; depriving their tenants of basic rights and needs does not bother them a bit, and if you have big issues, good luck... they’ll refer you to a nebulous higher power that is nearly constantly away “traveling” and unable to be reached. Not to mention, some of the tenants have no qualms with blocking the parking lot, leaving trash in the hallway, or smoking right outside your door. If you are a UVa student and you care about your well-being, dont live here. If you cant afford anything above this price point, seek elsewhere. IF YOU GO TO UVA AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, IT IS NOT STUDENT-FRIENDLY, THE ADVERTISEMENTS LIE. This place is a stinking rotten egg underneath the friendly and welcoming facade that they may give.

The staff here has no concept of customer service. If you have a maintenance issue they take forever and they continually give you reassurances that itll get fixed soon while doing nothing about it. Since the beginning of 2018 all the way until now, I have had a functional laundry machine for maaaaybe, GENEROUSLY a grand total of 2 weeks. When asked if they were willing to reimburse us for the cost having to do our laundry elsewhere (since part of the reason I chose to live here at all was for the in-unit machine) they said absolutely not and refused to even consider anything. This is one issue of many and weve had a new problem on AT LEAST a monthly basis. A lot of the lights on the property dont work which makes it super creepy at night. One of my roommates cars was broken into recently. And, as numerous people before me have mentioned, they care far more about advertising to potential new residents than they do about their actual, current residents. They play passive-aggressive and then turn around and throw a lot of events - which is time and money that would be farrrr better spent fixing the problems with the actual units than trying to put a bandaid on a broken arm.

Do not make the mistake of living here, very poor quality apartments. There are issues almost every month whether it it the AC, washer/dryer or dish washer. It will take a while for maintenance to come and fix what is wrong. It is not worth the money for what you get.

Just moved out recently. There were multiple shootings when I lived there. Staffs didnt give shyt about loud noise complaints, but referred me to call the police instead. Never cleaned the pool this year. They have no security cameras around the resident areas, but two or three cameras at around the office. I wrote what was wrong with my room on the paper and handed it back to them when I first moved in, now they charge me for what was broken wayyyy before I moved in. Sketchy characters everywhere. I would give it like negative stars if there is an option available like that for Cavalier Crossing.

Honestly, cavalier crossing has been horrible. I moved in here August 2016, and it gets worse every year to the point where I will not be resigning. The walls are very thin, you can hear EVERYTHING from the people above and in the apartment. There is a bug problem, management is very shady, they do not honor leasing specials that they offered and act like they have no recollection of it, even when you show them proof. And they currently have 1 maintenance worker for all of the buildings. Stay away from this place and go to EAGLES LANDING!!

For the first time moving out from home and continuing with school Ive found this place to be quite great for me personally. It feels great to find an affordable place to call my own. I like how they give us little gifts it makes us feel welcoming. On the other hand, i did wish that when you moved in the place was cleaner but if youre like me you dont really mind because youll clean up beforehand anyways to make it more familiar. One thing I do love about my small space is my view, and how its near everything from food, grocery stores, to downtown mall, its all there! Even PVCC is like 8 mins away, ive really enjoyed it here. Another thing i like is that some utilities are included as well, like water, internet, gym, tanning, computer lab, etc. The only thing is that for some of these you do have to bring your own stuff such as a router, printing paper etc, but the service is there. Overall, it fits me.

Terrible experience from the beginning with the incompetent clerk who had to write my lease two different times because she kept getting the details wrong, she misinformed the outgoing guy whose lease I was taking over and trying to make me pay for her stupidity (she soon left thankfully), they didnt clean their mess in the bathroom and left the closet sliding doors in the leaving room and on top of it they charged me a $50 bathroom cleaning fee which I left cleaner than how I received it.
