SO happy I found this salon! I just recently moved to Charlotte and have tried two other nail salons and had the worst experience. Modern nails had the largest selections of colors, a super nice clean salon, and a extremely friendly staff. Brenda was incredible! She did my nails perfectly, made great color suggestions, and was just very pleasant to sit with. Already booked out appointments with Brenda until February!

My boyfriend and I visited this salon for the first time yesterday for pedicures and I can honestly say we had an amazing experience! My boyfriend has never had a pedicure before so he was asking questions to our nail techs and was really ticklish and all 4 of us were giggling. We had the most pleasant conversation with the nail techs and it brightened our day! Super clean and adorable facility as well. Overall amazing experience :-) we will be back!

I’ve been going here for over a year and I’ve never been disappointed. I usually make appointments last minute so I can’t always get the same person. I’ve booked sns manicures with Lauren, Ann, and Yen and they’ve all been great. I decided to write a review because I recently broke a nail and they went above and beyond to get me in and fix it. Both Ann & Alyssa helped & they were so sweet not to hurt me & make sure it looked like nothing happened. Highly recommended any of them!

My daughter and I got mani-petis today. Everyone was so friendly, accommodating and so professional. I fell in love today with the staff and service. They do an amazing job on nails. Do yourself a favor and make Modern Nails your go-to shop!

I will literally never go anywhere else to get my nails done after the amazing manicure I got today! I got the OPI dipping powder with Yen and it’s the best mani I have ever had. It was more expensive than I’m used to, but definitely worth it.

They do good work! Its a small shop so be prepared to get close to your neighbor. Parking was tough but Im always up for an adventure in Southend! Diverse customer base. Beautiful setting in terms of the surrounding area. Cash only for tips. Some of the girls do cashapp or venmo. I had a great experience and my nails look great! Also I love that they use plastic in the basin when youre getting a pedicure. 😊🤗🙂

Visiting family here and needed to get my nails and toes done. Decided to come here and the staff was so friendly, Angel did my fill and pedi and it was great. They offered me something to drink too. When I come back to Charlotte I will come here again.

I was recommended by another customer and havent looked back yet! I love their super wide variety of colors and amazing designs. (You can check out their Instagram as proof!) I get a SNS manicure around once a month or so.

I went to Wendy and she did a great job on my toes and nails. She has a real professional. Very lucky kind and fun. Highly recommend

Was sat directly next to another girl getting her nails done. Honestly, should have said something but didn’t because I didn’t want to make my manicurist move her stuff. Not covid friendly at all. As she was doing my nails the owner (??) came by and said she hadn’t done a shiny coat. My manicurist said she had run out. Now my nails have scratched and look beat up after only a few days. $45 for an SNS pedicure (doesn’t include tip). Definitely would suggest going somewhere else before going here, I won’t be back.

Went here last week for a gel mani and Angel did such a fantastic job! Ive been to other salons in Charlotte, and Modern is by far the best one Ive been too. Prices were great and salon itself is clean and relaxing. I love that they have a loyalty card, and that if you pay in cash, you get an extra punch! Will definitely be back in about 2 weeks :)

My wife, daughter, and I have been visiting Modern for more than 5 years. Yesterday, my wife called and made a reservation for the two of us for pedicures at 2:00 PM today. We showed up, told one of the ladies that we had called and made a reservation. We sat there for 15-20 minutes and then we were told that they were only taking online reservations. I asked why were we not told that on the previous day when we called. No answer was given and we were told we wouldnt be seen today. Modern Nails lost a loyal client today. I will never, ever go back there.

Love this place! It’s a cute atmosphere and they’re always playing good music. I came here for about a year and I never once left unsatisfied (the only reason I stopped is because I moved). Ann always took the time to make sure my nails looked flawless. They are all so talented! Definitely recommend trying out this place.

I LOVE Modern Nails! I found my go to nail girl, Lauren, who is quick, efficient, + shapes my nails to perfection. Angel, who does my toes is lovely and always takes her time making sure the experience is enjoyable. I love the ease of booking my appointments online. The nail files had obviously already been used on someone else before me, and clipped nails got dumped onto the floor when they were done clipping my nails. The manicurist picked things out of the SNS jar before starting on my nails. Nothing seemed very clean in general, saw some things coated in dust/dirt and looking as though they had been for some time. I should not have come here. 2 stars because my nails DO look nice.

All my girls here take care of me. They remember faces and are so down to earth. Honestly if I cant go here I just dont go anywhere.

My pedicure turned out great, however they have an issue with water temperature . The water that my feet were soaking in, was cool water. When I asked for more hot water, I was told that I had the hottest water available. The customer beside me also requested more hot water, and was told that they recently added two pedicure chairs and that has decreased the amount of hot water. I recommend buying a bigger water heater to accommodate the expansion. When having a pedicure the last thing you want is cool water. Besides the water temperature issue, this is a great place to go.

Ive went here 2 times and Im sorry to say but I will not be returning. Both times I made an appointment and I was seen on time however, the ladies dont spend much time massaging for pedicures or manicures. I actually felt they were rushing. The nail job was a 8/10 and the products are good quality. I feel they over book and dont allow enough time between clients.

I found Modern Nails on Yelp one day looking for a nail salon open on Sundays in Charlotte, 3yrs later Ive been a loyal customer ever since. EVERY SINGLE PERSON does a great job with manicures, pedicures, and overall service!! You cannot go wrong in anyones station. Their work is sooooo meticulous and neat. I always leave more than satisfied! Nina Le, Lauren (Owner), and the two older fly ladies are my favorites. Also, big thanx to Lauren for always hiring great people! Some New Yorkers (me) are hard to please but they keep managing to keep me happy lol. Ive noticed, this is the place where woman of a certain grace/quality enter. Its thee spot to go in Charlotte whether you live here or not. Thank you to all the ladies and gents that have blessed my hands and feet with excellent service, I really appreciate you. ;)

Lauren, the owner has the most disgusting attitude I have ever seen in person. Don’t believe me, just look at the 1 star reviews and see how she responds to her dissatisfied customers. Also, read on yelp. She is truly arrogant for no reason and seems to be very racist. The shop itself is tiny as can be, hot, and the service is extremely slow. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you walked in a steamy closet. Every one just stares and they look so cramped and uncomfortable.She has the nerve to mistreat her customers and even the employees. I left after I witnessed how horribly she treated a customer. She charges way too much for subpar quality. I mean, I can’t even believe people still spend their money here. Embarrassing

I spent a few years trying to find my nail salon... I went to every nail salon in the South End/Dilworth area. Let me save you the effort of trying to find your place, and just tell you that its Elegant Nails. Its a family owned/operated business thats been here for 26 years. Inside is well-decorated, clean, and cute. Ive never received anything but awesome treatment and beautiful nails! You guys are awesome.

Went here with high hopes with all the amazing reviews, I had come once a few years ago and didn’t love it, but wanted to try again with a pedicure this time. Booked a deluxe pedicure with gel and a full set with gel the whole thing took almost 3.5 hours which just seemed long and not relaxing. The deluxe pedicure wasn’t anything special and seemed a little pricey, it took forever and wasn’t particularly well done. When she was doing the gel polish I had to hold my feet/legs a certain was that was so Uncomfortable. One of my toe nails was cut a funny shape as well. During my full set I got cut twice once on the side and once on the top. The top was bleeding a lot. The gel polish has started peeling up on one of my nails which I have NEVER experienced on acrylics and I’ve been getting them done for years. I also asked for one nail on each to be marbled (after seeing their amazing photos) it doesn’t even look like marble - I came home and someone thought the two marbled nails looked like dead nails because it’s just a gray swirly mess. Someone grabbed my hand on vacation thinking I had something on my finger like dirt. I was never offered a drink - but others that came were.

This is my go-to place. I can always go 2-3 weeks with a perfect gel manicure, which was unheard of for me before I found this salon. Great prices. Great, talented staff. And great vibe.

I wanted to get my nails done after work & read some pretty good reviews about this place. It was my first time & I was excited. To say the least, I was disappointed and left. Upon arrival, I was told that the wait would 15-20 minutes which isn’t bad. Within 5 minutes of being there, I was told they had a chair ready. They ran my water & just left me sitting there. I was there for 30 minutes & watched two people come in AFTER me get their toes done. No one said ANYTHING to me. No apology, no update, nothing. I ended up going to Dilworth Nails, and had an amazing experience! I’ll never recommend this place!

I have never consistently been to a nail boutique. It is not because im not loyal, its because I have always struggled to find great and consistent results. I love MODERN NAILS!!! I always have amazing service and they are clean and on time! Lauren and Anne are always so accommodating and take great care of me and my family!! I would recommend any of their stylists.

The place is very nice and professional, employees also had good hospitality. However, one employees child was in there and although he was adorable he was very hyper, roaming around, and crying which was not appropriate for a professional setting. In addition we had to wait almost 30 minutes with an appointment, and people who came in after us got taken care of before us. Experience was eh.

Dropped in without an appointment. A gentlemen started my gel removal with the drill turned up too high it hurt my fingers. He turned it down and the second attempt was no better. I was sitting next to Lauren, the owners, station. I did not want to hurt the technicians feelings but I also did not want him to continue doing my nails. I asked Lauren if I could speak to her outside. Her response was loud and hostile. She responded, if you dont want him to do your nails just say so. Lauren was with a customer and I was trying to be discrete. I asked again in a low voice if I could speak to her in private. Lauren responded, No! Im busy working and I have back to back appointments. I can understand her position because her clients time is very important. Unfortunately, when you are the owner of a business stuff happens and you have to deal with it and sometimes that may interfere with your routine.I am not sure why Lauren was so rude. I was not loud, obnoxious or angry. I have not always had the best experience at Modern nails when it comes to my nails but it has always been a pleasant environment. No place is perfect right??Laurens poor customer service has changed my feelings and I wont be back. The vibe has also changed and Laurens rigid demeanour and the reaction of her staff to her behavior explains it all!As for my nails, the job was mediocre!

My very first visit was wonderful! Very impressed and highly recommend trying. Nini did a wonderful job on my nails and took her time. After 17 years of getting my nails done this was the best place I have been too. I am very big on customer service!

Very nice ladies. Service was good. First nail salon I ever went to that actually doesnt feel or smell like a nail shop. Feels like your in someones nice apartment getting your nails done is how to describe it. They take their time and dont rush. I recommend this place 100%!

I used to love this place, so I was hesitant to write this review. However, the fact that the owner, Lauren, would treat a loyal customer as poorly as she did ultimately drove me to share my experience. I know this is a bit long, but it was necessary to explain why I left holding tears back. I had a big trip coming up that told them I was hoping my now fiancé was going to propose to me on. My nail tech usually runs behind & Lauren is the only 1 that can do nail designs (but doesn’t do acrylic nails), so I booked in advance to be the 1st customer of the day for the tech do my fill & Lauren do the design on my nails after. I get there 15 minutes early, as requested to ensure enough time, but my tech was 25 minutes late & Lauren volunteers her to do my design. The design looked nothing like what I asked for, yet no one offers a solution to fix the issue or change the color after I said I didn’t like it without the design. She just takes off the design and asks someone else to put the final coats on because her next customer arrived. This tech puts on thick coats and puts the top coat on so thick that it drained underneath one of my nails creating this big glob was stuck to my nail and skin. I pointed it out to her, she looks at it but she says nothing. So, a few minutes later I ask again to ensure she understood what I was telling her and Lauren from across the room SCOLDED me, saying I can’t look under each nail before she is done! The tech didn’t even fix it, I had to cut away at it once I got home. I am tearing up at this point, my nails are ruined with this thick mess/colors I don’t like and I don’t have a day off before I leave to get them fixed. To top it off, when she was done Lauren comes over to collect payment and charges me an extra $10 for the design I didn’t get!!! I questioned the price and said it was “for her time.” Her time?!? I didn’t say anything because I was holding back tears, but what about my time??? I didn’t ask to be here almost 2 hours waiting for her tech to get there/attempt something I had booked her to do (which wouldn’t have taken nearly as long because she’s efficient at designs). I started balling crying as soon as I got into my car. I didnt even want to post my proposal pictures because my nails looked so bad.

I too was recommended this place by a coworker. I really wanted to love this place, but after coming twice I just dont think I will come back. I like the idea that they had an appointment only system Mon-Saturday. To me, this means you are guaranteed that time specifically with the technician of your choice and you should have a relaxing experience. Unfortunately I had a different experience. The first time I came in I had a gel manicure and regular pedicure. Angel was amazing at the pedicure and I would highly recommend her for any service. She was very nice and took her time on my toenails. I dont remember who did my gel manicure the first time, but she did an OK job. Five days into my gel manicure it started to turn a different color, I didnt mind and still came back for a second time. I made an appointment for Saturday at 11:30 for a regular manicure and toe polish change with Yen. When I arrived she was with another client and (I think the manager) started soaking my nails. The place started to fill up and they moved me over to a pedicure chair so yen could start on my toe polish change. Halfway through the toe polish change the manager came over and said we have a problem we double booked... could we move you to another person I was a little annoyed, but said yes. The woman who did my nails was super nice, she was younger and took her time. Unfortunately my nails have not held up and have formed bubbles. It has only been 4 days. When I was in the salon I also noticed (unfortunately when I was drying) that some of my nails were shaped badly. I looked up and they were so busy, I didnt want to bother with getting anything fixed. I will probably not return, but go somewhere else that I can relax and have a better experience.

Ive had acrylic nails for over a decade & have always had to get a fill within 10 days or would just end up getting a new set from so many lifting until I met Nini. Not only does she do an excellent job, but shes also fun. Love the owner & the other staff is excellent as well! I highly recommend Modern Nails!

First time visit... Lauren was knowledgeable but definitely not professional. Scheduled appointment, showed up on time and still had a wait time. I received SNS with mani and my nails and cuticles are sore as if I received a full set acrylic. Decided to try out this place based on reviews, products used and quality of nail services. Will not revisit or recommend if customer service is important to you.

My friend and I visited this shop while in Charlotte. I will not be coming back to this place. The back room in which they do pedicures also serves as their kitchen and laundry room. Two ladies that came in after my friend and I were offered a beverage and we werent offered a thing. My technician seemed to rush through my pedicure and neglected things (like dead skin that I had to point out) that are typically removed during a pedicure. My feet still felt hard when I left and I will have to go over this pedicure with my pumice pad. DO NOT COME HERE!

I have been getting my nails done here for about a year now and have only had great experiences. I like that they have an app for you to schedule appointments and that they are open everyday. The prices are fair and the staff is super nice. I definitely recommend making this your regular place!

I just left here with THREE bleeding cuticles. My nail tech actually had to file my blood out of my dip powder manicure. When I called back in once I got to my car and realized how bad my fingers hurt and look, the owner was unwilling to even hear my concerns, claiming Accidents happen, and Cuticles get dry this time of year, and wouldnt even attempt to make it right.As a professional massage therapist, my hands are my livelihood and I take excellent care of them with professional manicures every 2 weeks, oil and lotion daily, etc.. Ive never had such a traumatizing experience at a nail salon and to anyone reading, please take your health seriously and dont risk it here.

Everyone at the salon was very nice but that was probably the worst regular manicure Ive ever gotten. The polish was clumpy, and she just poured acetone in the bottle. Because of this, the polish never dried properly. I took it off when I got home and did it myself. If I came back I definitely wouldnt do regular polish.

The best experience Ive ever had at a nail salon! I have been twice -- once for a pedicure & once for a set of acrylics -- both of the ladies that did my nails paid a lot of attention to detail and you can tell they are passionate about the art -- I will definitely be back and recommend to friends.

I had my nails done there twice. I normally have strong nails but within that month I had 5 nails break. The first appointment saw my nails bubble up after a week I figured maybe it was bad powered and let it go.When I went in and inquired about my nails getting fixed 8 days after getting them done the second time, I was told there would be a charge. It was disappointing as that last appointment took 90 minutes and my nails only lasted about a week. As nice as the salon is, the attempt to make right, not take any part of the responsiblity or find a middle ground is why I wont be coming back in the near future.

Tools are not sanitized between customers. Each technician has her own tool set which is just wiped down with a wet towel between customers. They do a great job but the fact that instruments arent sanitized will keep me away.

It has very friendly and professional atmosphere. I got My gel mani done by Lauren and shes wonderful. Definitely gonna come back! :)

I made an appointment and when I arrived the staff rudely told me they dont take appointments (?). After waiting patiently for 15 minutes, they sat a lady who arrived after me. When I asked how much longer I should expect to wait I was told it would be at least another 30 minutes. The main lady was rude the entire time. Plus the environment is cramped and not relaxing at all. Definitely will not be returning

Very small place, they rushed me, my feet were not that smooth, and the acrylic they use started to lift after a week but yet... just to soak off old acrylic and a full new set w gel and a pedi, they charged me $90.00.... over priced. 👎🖓 never again and I dont recommend them at all.

The nail tech who did my nails wasnt friendly at all. Never smiled or spoke without being spoken to. Noticed 3 of my SNS nails also had indents after I left & I had to remind her to cover the sides well. I still tipped, but dont recommend this place.

The area is being gentrified and Lauren the manager lets it be known that she does not want people of color as customers no matter how long you have been a customer. The manager basically will tell you to find another place because they do not want you there. It is sad that businesses like these are allowed to run in communities.

My sister and I went to get a mani pedi together and they gave us a massage on our hands and feet for about 10 seconds. It was by far the worst nail salon we been too.

I really wanted to like this place and actually returned a few times before deciding to leave this review because I wanted to believe they were busy or she just forgot to ask. The work itself is okay because its rushed but even when they werent super busy, their customer service lacked consistency. Every single time I was there, I would watch as other people got offered beverages, deluxe mani/pedi, etc. I realize that I could have asked but thats besides the point. If I am paying for a service then I should be informed of the options that are available.

I will not be coming back to this place. The back room in which they do pedicures also serves as their kitchen and laundry room. So while I was getting my pedicure, I was watching the staff stand in front of me eating their dinner and other things. Literally, theyre eating bowls of food and snacking on cheese and stuff, it was bizarre. They lounge on the pedicure chairs and play on their phones and make phone calls while Im trying to relax and get a pedicure two chairs down. The girl sitting next to me was given two glasses of wine while I was there and I wasnt even offered a water. My technician was using tools that did not appear to be sanitary and I would not be surprised if the next victim was subject to the same tools without proper sanitation...unless you call rinsing the tools in the water that I had just had my feet in sanitation. DO NOT COME HERE.

I visited about a month ago and dont plan on going back. I called before I went in as it was a Friday afternoon and I didnt have an appointment. Was told there was no wait and it wouldnt be a problem for me to walk in so I told them I would be there in 10-15 minutes. As it was my birthday I upgraded to the deluxe pedicure for a treat. Apparently the guy doing my pedicure had an appointment soon after because it was super rushed. I was not offered anything to drink even though everyone around me had water or wine. When I asked I received a huge sigh and an eye roll. Then when he was done he grabbed my phone and wallet and walked away. I did NOT get manicure, no reason for you to touch my things. When I caught up to him at the dryer he literally stuck his hand out and said Payment now.......and when I asked how much another eye roll. Then I was left at the dryer and basically just walked out when I thought they were done (15 minutes later). Since these are splurges for me maybe I expect better treatment but this was the worst pedicure I have ever gotten.And I totally expect a sassy response since that is what seems to happen when someone leaves feedback. And that is fine. But instead maybe listen to your customers instead of telling them how they are wrong.

I just love this place, they really take time to make sure my pedicure and manicure are to my satification and my cuticles are clipped which is a big deal to me !!

Horrible customer service. Clustered and dirty. Unappealing. The last time I went there I asked for a pedicure and gel on my hands. While I was getting my pedicure, this other lady comes to start on my hand nails. I found it weird because after she took my nail polish off, she was pushing back my cuticles and then she massaged my hands for like 5 seconds. I even told my friend that she was nice enough to do that. But no. At the end when it was time to pay, they charged me for a manicure when I didn’t even ask for it or want it. The girl in charge was like “well she gave you a manicure so you have to pay for it”. I had no problem paying for it but what made me mad was that she knew what she was doing by not even asking me if I wanted a manicure she just gave me one. They were just trying to get more money from me by adding a “manicure” that I never asked for. You just don’t do that. For example, if you’re in a restaurant and they drop a steak at your table without saying anything. You shouldn’t be obligated to pay for it because you never asked for it.Never going back ever again.

Just walked in and was asked what I wanted- I asked for a list of services and was told there was none I wanted to see the colors offered but the woman who spoke to me seemed uninterested and I assumed she did not want my business so I Walked out. No need to spend my hard earned dollars there.

Very nicely done gels. Mine lasted the full two weeks and Im hard on my nails...........only bad thing I can say is how impersonal they were. Never really felt comfortable. They hardly spoke to me.

Worst manicure Ive ever received. Ive never felt so rushed in and out. They started on my friend 20 minutes before me and I was done and had to wait on her for about 20 minutes. I also didnt receive some of the treatments she got with her manicure. I understand its a boutique salon so its small, and I mean on top of one another small, but having your kitchen literally 3 feet in front of the pedicure chairs and having all the probably not so sanitized tools and sanitizers together and eating in front of customers getting pedicures trying to relax is gross. I got my hands massaged for a good 3 seconds with regular aveno lotion. She didnt clean under my nail just filed them so short there was no under nail left leaving my nails and skin very sore. I had so much glue under my nail beds and all over my fingers from the SNS fuzz was sticking to them. When I asked if the tech would remove it she told me to wash my hands when I got home and it would go away and that is was because my nails were so short...because she filed them down to the skin underneath. It was a good 24 hours before I felt like I had the glue off. My nails look nothing like the actual shape of my nail, I just wanted round at the ends and they look like fat wide little toenails. Not to mention how insanely thick and lumpy they are...the sns isnt even shiney it still looks gritty from the powder. I [over]paid $55 for them and I honestly cant wait to get them off and its only been a few days. Looking at them makes me angry they look so bad. Its clear this place is all about cramming as many customers into their salon so they can provide quick low quality services and only thinking about the customers as money. Providing an actual enjoyable experience along with good services will benefit you not only that day (so you can fill your pockets) but in the future too.

My mother and I were profiled from the time we entered the door. A customer and one of the stylist accused me of stealing a $4 bottle of used nail polish. We were prepared to pay $60 in services, I dont need to steal. Its sad that African Americans are still being stereotyped and racially profiled in 2015. They dont deserve anyones business if they cannot welcome everyone. Please do not support this business.

Theyre always friendly here and they take their time rather than rushing you through like a lot of other places.

Great place to get your nails and toes done

Really, really small salon. Sit elbow to elbow with other customers. Feels like youre in a cattle car. Had appointment for pedicure and gel fill-ins. Water was cold. They had to heat some. After pedicure nail tech was going to do fill-ins in pedicure chair because there wasnt an available table, I refused. My daughter had a mani/pedi. Water also cold. They did her manicure in pedicure chair, (tech standing).. Extremely disappointed. My nail tech spoke no English. Would never recommend this salon.

I went in being very indecisive and they were ok with all the changes I kept wanting. My nails came out great I wish I knew how to load up a picture.

This place is awesome, there work was amazing, this place is clean, there sterile, and kids friendly I took my daughter on a mommy daughter date and they were very friendly, she was so comfortable she was patient the whole time (shes 3)they did awesome on her nails too, and it didnt even smell like a nail salon, finally the atmosphere was grown woman very relaxing I highly recommmend This place.

I absolutely love going here. After moving to Charlotte with acrylics (getting fills) I was desperately searching for a good nail salon in the city. I visited 4 within my first few months of being here. None of them were up to my standards - either dirty inside, unprofessional or did not do a good job on my nails. I went to Modern, and some how got lucky with having Nini do my nails on my first visit. She recommended SNS to me because she said the process would be better for my nails than acrylic fills every two weeks. It is so worth the money. I go once per month, have her do an SNS color change, and am on my way. She is friendly, cares about her clients, and is always doing her best work. I once had Mila do my color change (before I started to schedule appointments) and she did a fantastic job as well. It is cramped, and I do recommend making appointments, because otherwise there is a high possibility you may not even get in within an hour or two. Overall, it is just a friendly atmosphere. They provide wine/beverages, they have shared jackfruit with me near closing time, and they talk to you & remember your past conversations. I will never go to another nail salon as long as I live in CLT.

Good service, but the place is extremely crowded and cramped. They also make you wait for an hour even if you made an appointment
