I needed a car last minute to make it to a family funeral as mine was still in the shop longer than expected. My usual, big name, rental place didnt have any cars available. I found Carolina Rent a Car on google and followed their instructions for a rental. They made the process so easy even though my pick up time changed last minute. I remember Mikes name but the other gentelmen who worked there as well were very friendly and professional. Theyll be my first choice next time. Thanks again for all of your help and great service!Also, I loved the car. No issues, clean and drove well.

Booked a 15-passenger van on July 20 for a wedding on August 7. Just got a call cancelling because the van was in the shop. No resolution, no alternate vehicle, just an apology for the inconvenience.

Honestly I don’t know where to start with this rental company! Their process is easy and they get you in a nice car right away. The prices are very reasonable as well competing with any top rental car company. The guys that work for this company are very genuine, they work with you to get you a great rate and you can tell they really want to help their customers. Their business is professional and honestly the best rental car agency I’ve ever rented from. This is my go to rental car agency from here on out! I want to thank Carolina Rent A Car! By not honoring my reservation or promptly following up with me, I was able to rent a sporty (which I specifically reached out to this rental company for), yet quality car for over 50% less than I would have paid at Carolina Rent A Car. Also, the professionals didnt nickel and dime me with additional fees according to what state I was traveling to, although Carolina Rent A Cars contract states that miles are unlimited. Sidenote: Matt and the other gentlemen I spoke with initially, not Mike, were very friendly and helpful. Im not sure where the disconnect happened, but unfortunately I wont patronize this company again. I cant risk messing up my travel plans because someone dropped the ball.

It could have been great, but I was disappointed when I was told after I got down there that they do not take chime cards. They need to tell customers ahead of time that they do not accept chime cards.

Rented a mini van for a recent move. The van was extremely clean and the weekly rate was very reasonable and the staff is friendly and accommodating! No hassle, quick easy rental . First time renting a vehicle from Carolina Rent A Car. They have a good selection of 12 and 15 passenger vans and I decided to rent the 15 passenger high roof van. It was a comfortable drive to Atlanta for a group of 13 guys. Check-in was quick and easy but there was some miscommunication. They ask me did I want to add another driver but did not tell me it was a charge for that additional drivers. I returned the vehicle during closed hours(Sunday) and totally forgot the refill the gas tank. They charge me $202 ($7.XX per gal), but I called a couple days later when I seen the chargers and Mike the manager was able to reimburse me some of the money back. He was understanding and cool about it. I don’t understand how I didn’t get my deposit back but nonetheless I appreciate them for giving me something back.

Your average rental car office, however the employees were very pleasant and helpful. Any time I had a question or concern they happily assisted me. When calling you can expect to get one of the employees in that office. Will definitely do business with them again. Give them 4 1/2 stars#

DO NOT RENT HERE. At first the experience was good. The car was clean and seem new and the rate was good. Then one day I get a call from my bank saying that they tried to take $13,000 out of my account. When I called them the clerk had a real unapologetic attitude and stated it was just a mistake and what was the big deal. After this first incident money was deducted out of my account without authorization from myself after many request to call me before authorizing payment due to the error in the beginning. At the end of the rental the clerk refused to give me the end damage report and said they don’t do that there? I’m so confused How do you know if there was damage on the vehicle when it’s return if you don’t do a final damage report and provide customer with copy? I don’t trust them and if you have to rent be very careful and watch your account. *Updated*below respond is false and I have witnesses to prove it. Thank you for trying to make me out to be an disrespect customer and I glad you been in business for 21 years doesn’t make you someone that can be trusted. Well Fargo been around since 1930 and they stole 1 billion dollars from customer. Just saying.

Excellent service and fantastic to work with!! I needed a cargo van to move my son away to college. Due to a tremendous storm, I was unable to return the vehicle by the cut-off time. They worked with me and were very understanding of the situation. Highly recommend!!!

I highly recommend renting your cars through Carolina rental! I have had a great experience working with Carolina rental for the past couple months. There cars are up to date and I never have issues that can’t be handled without a phone call. Although renting cars is a hassle, Carolina rental has made this experience easy. I dont know if there was something in the air but it was just completely terrible service! The old guy with the bald spot was very rude and told me i had to call them to get a rental when he could of token my info right then and there... so I went into my car and called them while im in the car... he took my info and told me to wait 30 mins.. 1:10 mins pass and I called him, he denied my call so we drove back to see if the rental was ready and yet the car was still not ready... i had to leave Charlotte by 10:30... and so I went in the office but he still need my info and card like ok we should of done that in the first place when I first walked in.. but he was just very rude and I couldnt take his condensending attitude, I wont be recommending this place to anyone.

This rental car company is awesome. Ive been renting from them for 3 consecutive months and the customer service is great. Only had 1 issue and management rectified the situation immediately the next morning. They even offered me discounts and promotions for the inconvenience. I would definitely recommend them. They also have cars for sale that are affordable and low mileage.

Weve routinely used Carolina Rent A Car to rent vans for church trips and have always been pleased with their vehicles and services. Our most recent trip used a 12 passenger van and I was impressed with the quality of the vehicle and the bells and whistles it had with it. I can’t believe this. So I made reservations for a a week ahead of time to pick up car rental at 430pm on Saturday because I was going out of town for a week. I even confirmed it on Friday for 430pm. So when I get there at 430pm the customer service girl comes back in the office at 435 and says oh you can’t rent a car we stop doing rentals at 430pm and I already lock the gate and we don’t have any key to open it only the manger so I asked if she can call the manager she said he’s off and don’t take calls,... this is very unprofessional and I won’t be using there services againI been meaning to make an update for my post, but due to me being busy I’m just now getting around to it..But the General Manager call me on Sunday morning and help me with my rental.. which was really nice and thoughtful because their office doesn’t do business on Sunday.. I really appreciate him for doing that. Because I was able to go on my Week vacation with my family and enjoyed it.. I am a fairly new customer of this business and I have been very pleased with the service that Ive received since patronizing with them.I havent met all their staff just yet but, Ive previously dealt with Mike, Kirk, Anthony and Carlos. These guys have been great to me providing outstanding customer service and assistance with any issues or questions I had regarding my rentals.I am an early worm so, I like to get things done early and quickly because of my daily schedule. THE WORST CAR RENTAL COMPANY IN CHARLOTTE!!!!THEY LIE AND STEAL FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!THEY DO NOT HAVE UNLIMITED MILES!!!DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!!They first tried to charge me extra money when I returned the car because they said that I went over the mileage even when the rental contract said that it was unlimited miles. Then they charged me a higher weekly rate for the following weeks because they said that even though its unlimited miles I was driving their cars too much. I will be contacting the BBB because they are VERY inconsistent in their business practices and charge people differently based on OBVIOUS factors.Their cars smell like WEED when you pick them up. One of the cars I rented had horrible brakes that you could hear screeching from around the block.WEEKS after returning my car theyre still trying to charge my card in random increments.DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!

Ford focus, nice drive. I have a awesome picking up. Everyone was responsive and professional. I told them that the rental was both, business and personal. I was traveling in NC and VA. Unlimited miles. However upon return, I was told that we have to make a note that excessive driving . I was surprised and i explained again the I told the agent that I was driving between 2 states. So why was I told about excessive driving?

Great experience. I rented a car for 2 days. During the initial walk around we missed a long marking that was worth $600 of damage. I was sure I did not damage the car during my rental time. The manager went back into records to check for previous recordings and found that it was marked back in sept. Very friendly place and I would recommend.

I walked into their office looking to rent a car to get to another dealership to test drive a car. I was greeted with enthusiasm by the employees and explained my situation, I was then told that they also sell cars. The head guy John worked with me and I purchased a 2014 Hyundai Accent from him cash money, and it has been the best used car I ever purchased! It has been a year and all i have done to it is buy a new battery, I will do business with them again!

Recently had some major mechanical problems with my personal vehicle and was forced to rent a car. Finding a place to work with me during this time was stressful and difficult, until I found Carolina rental car. Working with this rental company has been a breeze. I just called twice times! I was on hold for over 10 minutes the first time. The seco d time I called the young man asked me could I hold and I said no and proceeded to tell him that I had already been waiting over 10 minutes. I waited 5 more minutes and stillno response. No wayto treat new incoming business. I saw that this company was local and thought I may give them a try. No thanks!

Ive been meaning to write a review for a few months now. I searched exhaustively for a company that could rent my a Jeep Wrangler for my Asheville Trip. I found Carolina Rent A Car, and they were great! We very badly wanted to have a soft-top, and although not promised, they tried to help us and we did end up with the soft top. The car was waiting for me at the Airport, it was great shape, beautiful car. And we had a phenomenal time on our trip. The Jeep truly made our trip that much better, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway for 7+ Hours. My only concern was i had to push the folks at the company for paperwork before the trip because they had vacations and individuals who took my reservation forgot to send the docs I needed, which had me a little concerned until it was all settled.

A first car for my son and a terrific experience. John is truly a great guy to work with.

Do NOT rent from this place! I received the WORST SERVICE EVER from this company! I called before I went in and asked if they had a vehicle available and was told they did. I arrived not even 20 minutes later and first the rep said he had to see if a car was available. Next I was asked my age (why would I come to rent a car if I wasnt old enough) I told the rep I was 30 then I was asked if I had insurance, I advised him I had full coverage with Allstate and the next thing you know he says he cant rent to me because its too late. Its 4:30 and we close at 5 so my system wont let me in. Hmmmm well why didnt you say that to begin with or better yet why did you even ask me these questions? And if I go online to reserve the car for 4:30 (as I started to and Im happy I didnt) why will it let me and accept my $50 deposit??? I was told bad things about here before I went but I went out on a leap of faith because they were the only place open this late on a Saturday. I didnt bother to waste my time asking to speak with a manager because by that time I wouldnt have taken a car from this company if it was FREE!!! Do NOT waste your money here go to a more replicable company.

I could not recommend Carolina Rent A Car highly enough. John helped me buy the perfect truck this past July. He was well educated on the specific car I was looking for (as well as comparable makes/models), encouraged me to take my time, and asked me for details (down to the exact color or axle ratio) to ensure I got exactly what I wanted. He also helped me to have some equipment installed (gooseneck tow hitch, trailer electrical wiring work) with high quality work and at a fair price. It was the complete opposite of the car buying experience I had come to expect. John is honest, patient, and an expert in his field. I will rave about CRAC to anyone who will listen!!

I rented a MIDSIZE car on Friday, cool no problem pick the car up.... What is this !! The rep stated this a midsize I say oh ok... got in the car drove off why this car got a mind of its own. I call the store to let them know I need another car because the car needs maintenance. So the rep was like we do not have anything at this moment call Saturday by noon No problem. I called at 7am. Remind you this car is 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Why are you renting out 2011 cars. So I call spoke with the manager and he stated that the car should not been rented I was like right, he stated come down and get another car. I got a Nissan Altima much better so I ask the manager how much it will be for the week to rent he stated $125 because I already paid $160 for the weekend I was like ok. ITS Monday I called the place to see if it was still $125 the rep stated no its $185.. What!!! I said manager just stated it was $125 he said cause of the additional driver, well I dont need additional driver, the only way to take that off is to re-do another contract noooooo!!! The worst on top of that you charge $35 out of my deposit. A mistake your employee did oh well fault is that. To sum it up it was a horrible experience with the rental and the workers. They need more training and let people know up at beginning of the rental. I even ask the girl who return the car and she act like she didnt know nothing, unprofessional. I will not rent here again !!!! some BS ESPECIALLY IF IT THE WORKERS FAULT.

Alright prices, cars are at least 2-3 years old nothing up to date!!! Guy that works there named “Kirk” is a real tool. Very rude and unfriendly to Black people. Other than that the place is pretty ok.

I hope this will save other customers the hassle of dealing with these people. I will not do business here again.1. They do not tell you at the time you rent the car that you cannot drop it off if they are not open. There is no key drop box. Which force me to drive there 3 times.2. If you are using a debit card they want you to write your Social Security number on a scrap of paper. This is how people have their identity stolen. Please never write down your Social Security number for anyone!3. The North Tryon Street location is directly in the middle of a heavy construction area. There is both light rail construction and new retail construction. It will take you no less than 45 mins to get there from HWY 49 or Eastway Drive. The sales people here refuse to acknowledge this fact.4. The van I rented, in fact picked up two nails in this area around the North Tryon Street location while I was returning the van. I know this because I drove it to Raleigh and back with no problem. When I returned it they told me I would have to pay for a new tire. I told them I did not think this was fair, they insisted that I would have to pay for a new tire. When I told them I felt that they should understand that this was outside of my control because their store was in the middle of a construction zone. They were inflexible.I realized I needed to post this, I told the manager that I was going to give them a one star on google and yelp. He tried to pressure me not to, giving me several hollow reasons, which I am sure he will respond with below.He told me that he couldnt let a customers review cloud his judgement. Seeing that the management does not care about retaining customers or what customers have to say. I will let you my fellow customers know what to truly expect for Carolina Rent a Car on North Tryon Street.

Horrible the car I received was damaged inside and out. They take advantage of this being a last resort Rental option for alot of ppl. I would not recommend to anymore. Customer service was rude and aggressive also. I dont like the fact if having to give my social security number for a rental either. This whole rental operation is sketchy

If I could give this place zero stars I would! I recently rented from them for a 1 day rental that turned into 2 days only and I was treated like a criminal! We tried to rent from Payless car rental when they wouldnt allow us to rent without a flight itinerary we took it upon ourselves to call and rent from Carolina. The getting in the car portion was typical however lengthy, apparently they have to verify insurance coverage with your company. Upon renting I was informed that if you leave the state you are given 150 miles per day then charged .75/mile after. I am recently unemployed and have to wait for my final paycheck to clear this Monday, 3 days after renting. I stayed informed with them every few hours about what was going on, tried to borrow from numerous friends to no avail. I was called and threatened with warrants being issued for my arrest every few hours, they were not willing to even listen to my situation. Mike said that because I couldnt pay for the second day and had the car that I had stolen the car and would get arrested. They called my father while he was busy with work out of town to get his contact info for the jail and my arrest. They told him that they had a car follow me around Charlotte about a mile behind me for most of the day. That alone is weird and scary considering that every car has a live tracking device in it. But now my family thinks I was trying to steal a car and how embarrassing! I was going to vacuum and clean the car out before returning it but was told to make it back there to drop off the car before the cops could get there to avoid being arrested. I will never in my life rent from them again, I will never recommend them to anyone and will tell my story to everyone I know. I have never experienced such treatment, humiliation and hassle from any other car rental company. I am a preferred member with Avis and Budget, (whom had no available cars for rent) Wyndom rewards, Hilton Honors and a few others. I am not a homeless beat up criminal, just an educated middle class member of society whom happens to be between jobs at the moment who was just trying to help a best friend move back home. This was the most stressful, headache, scary rental that I have had in my 37 years alive! A trailer for an office should have been enough to keep me away! I have all of my phone calls with them recorded and even received voicemails of the same nature. Nothing would make me happier than to find out that someone sued them for defamation of character, hassle, and threats of nature and that someone may just be me.
