I loved this hotel! As an artist I really appreciated the artistic flair they put into the decoration of each room, the wallpapers, hanging art pieces, etc. The beds and pillows were really comfortable. I loved the complimentary umbrellas and bicycles. The staff was great! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely come back here:)

The hotel is well appointed. The beds were very comfortable. The decor was sophisticated and artistic. We especially loved the rabbit wallpaper in the bathroom. It made for lively conversation. The staff was very helpful. The bellman were wonderful. They cared for our luggage and my bike like it was their own. The female bellman was also a knowledgeable tour guide. She told us about various places to visit, gave us history on many artifacts and places to visit in Charleston, and even pointed us in the correct direction.

We had a nice visit and really liked the location. We were able to walk to everything. We arrived at a very busy time with check-in‘s but we didn’t get lost in the shuffle as Jay greeted us with delight and took the best care of us. We had our three small children with us so his help was extra appreciated. We truly enjoyed talking to Jay as we were coming and going. He cares for people and takes pride in his job, and he is a light that shines bright for your hotel! Make sure you talk to Jay if you visit.

The hotel is in a great spot in the historic part of Charleston and I feel like thats about all youre paying for. The lobby is very nice and the lollipops is a cute touch when you head up the elevators. But thats where it ended for us. Our actual room was clean, but the shower looked like it had mildew growing on some of the grout. And the drain was plugged so we had to have maintenance come unclog it. They were very responsive but it made me so mad that I had to have them come given this was a lot more money than the other hotels we stayed at on our trip. It just really ruined the stay for me.We also heard some strange sounds coming from the fridge (we think) and a different sound from the vent in the closet. The TV also wouldnt work on many channels and would just go black. YouTube worked for us so I guess thats nice.Outside of the convenient location, I would not stay here again.

To be fair, a year ago this would have been a 4 star review. However, having travelled quite a bit recently, I realize the customer experience in so many hotels is significantly lower now. The stay here was well above average and greatly appreciated. Although obviously understaffed, the hotel and rooms were clean. The Valet/Bellman/More Jay was continually trying to keep up with guests coming and going. The few small issues were resolved professionally and quickly.

8/23 to 8/24 we stayed at the Renaissance Hotel we loved this place. It was clean and everyone was so nice. And Jay was a delight. He was very helpful and kind. I want to first say this should be a 5 Star Hotel just off the customer service alone. When we first arrived to check-in, we were greeted by Jay and Mac. These two gentleman are the first impressions for this hotel. They greeted us each and every time we left the hotel. They gave great advice on where to eat and how to get there and just conversation period. We got there a little earlier than the check-in time. Tamiko checked us in. She was so nice and helpful. We were able to check in early. The customer service was worth every dollar. Our room was very spacious, nice and clean. The beds were so comfortable!! I will be staying here whenever I visit Charleston. This hotel is located in the heart of downtown Charleston. We walked everywhere!! The only thing I will say thats negative is the $30 for parking. I thought it was a bit much considering how much the rooms cost. Thank you all for making my stay so much better.

What started off as a great experience at this hotel ended abruptly before I would check out the next morning while I was away at breakfast. I returned to my room to find a Hotel employee breaking my room down by 10 AM with my possession still in the room. I Would lose an expensive sonicare toothbrush that was brand new, toiletries plus a medical grade laser device that sells for 5k. After calling the hotel twice to address the issue. I have not received a return phone call from the GM or any other hotel staff. The rooms do have safes however I did not know I should put my toiletries and personal belongings in the safe prior to leaving.

Beautiful hotel and friendly staff but I did not like the room. My feet stuck to the laminated floors...the room should have carpet. Also the large connecting door is ugly and shows the hotel is very old. The glass shower door is old and hard to close.Otherwise the decor is nice. . However the staff at Handy and Hot are great and made our stay so nice.

Front desk staff was lousy, sheets were both mattress covers for the sofa bed, my room was next to the elevator and the overall customer service was poor. As lifetime Titanium Elite member, I have stayed in many hotels around the world. The front desk staff at this hotel tops the list for among the worst. I have stayed in this hotel several times before COVID. This is my first time posting a review after nearly 1k nights in Marriott hotels. My requested early check in was accepted online, then denied once I arrived at hotel. I was given my room key at 5:00 well after the normal check in time at 4:00. During my several hours wait I noticed that no other guests were delayed in getting their room. My inquires of my room status were addressed with snobby attitudes from two of the three front desk associates including the front desk manager. I am not sure why I was treated in the manner as my attitude was calm and collected. I received no accommodations for my inconvenience... not even an apology. The room was nice, however next to the elevator that we could hear when it stopped on our floor. Perhaps business is so good that they do not need me as a guest.

Apparently singing in the shower the night I checked in at 8:00 pm was too loud and had a noise complaint. I had a security guard pound on my door. Also the following morning while I was showering around 8:30 I had a pounding on my door I obviously couldn’t answer again. Will never stay here again and I canceled my reservation early to move to the Grand Bohemian down the street where I felt much more comfortable. A phone call to my hotel room would have been more intelligent than pounding on my door.

Recently stayed at the Renaissance given their new pet policy. Originally was confirmed at the Grand Bohemian, and switched to the Renaissance given the $50 pet charge. Called to confirm fee prior to arriving, was told it was a one time fee. Imagine the surprise when we were charged per night when we checked out. The manager Lauren said it was for “cleaning” - yet, the Renaissance isn’t cleaning rooms until checkout during COVID. When I let the manager know that Grand Bohemian’s charge was $150 and the pet fee was why we switched hotels, she said that the $150 is per night, which I promptly called and confirmed it was a one time fee. I understand we signed a waiver, but at that point, we had paid in full for the room, so our hands were tied. We did our due diligence to call and confirm the posted fee prior to booking and arriving. What about the Renaissance responsibilities on the waiver that said we would have a tag notifying others of a pet in room? You can’t pick and choose what parts of the waiver will be enforced.Stick to picking up breakfast at the cafe, and stay elsewhere. Rooms and hotel were dated, and are probably a category 5, max.

We stay exclusively at Marriott properties because my husband travels so much for work. He is a Platinum Lifetime member.I understand we are in a little bit of a different time but to not have A SINGLE person check our room the entire stay (3.5 days) was odd. We also had to ask for our trash to be taken out and we were told “when you return from dinner let us know and we will do it then”. We also had to ask for fresh towels and were told I can hand them to you now”. Really? We were told they were at 100% capacity when our request for a suite upgrade (we had suite upgrades to use sent to us by Marriott) were not available. We saw maybe 25 people our entire stay. Never once saw a maid service, we had to set our trash outside the door because no one ever came and had to ask twice for fresh towels. We were told there was no overnight maid service and we understand that completely. We have never needed anything in the middle of night but to have no one touch our room once the entire stay? It’s also under construction. The shower door trim fell off 3 times. Toilet wouldn’t flush right and had to repeatedly flush it to make it clear the bowl, and a large rope hung from top of building to bottom outside of our window and kept hitting it.We have stayed at many Renaissance Marriotts. We have never had this type of disappointing stay. It was nicely located to king street. But considering we barely saw any guests and were told they were 100% capacity? I’m sorry but that’s doubtful. We didn’t feel welcomed nor did we feel like our service and choice to stay there was valued.

The staff and customer service is amazing! The front desk agent who checked us in, Kai, was super friendly as soon as we walked in the door. She is very informative, professional and makes you feel so at home! The parking attendants Jay C and Macky W are amazing also! From assisting us with our luggage, giving us information on things, waters to drink and taking our pictures lol, they are awesome! Our AC wasn’t working too well, I called the front desk and the maintenance guy came up and fixed it all within 3 minutes. I forgot his name, but from our conversation he was recently married and from NY. He was also very polite, bringing us waters and even extra towels. I had never been to Charleston before, but definitely plan on coming back and DEFINITELY staying at this hotel again! AMAZING genuine customer service all around!! First of all, my girlfriend and I called to see if there were any rooms available for a single night and were rudely told that no rooms were available. We happened to be near the hotel so we decided to walk in and ask the front desk instead out of curiosity. We were then told that they did have a room available and it ended up coming out to about $475.00 for a single night after tax and fees. The room had malfunctioning appliances and a very large stain on the bed skirt and was not worth the money by any means at all, seeing as how there are many nice hotels in the area. Not only that but we were charged a smoking fee that we were not informed about even though we did not smoke in the hotel room. Also no one had told us upon checking in that there was a no smoking policy on their entire property. The lack of provided information, the overpriced room along with malfunctioning appliances that could be due to faulty wiring which could cause fires, and being charged an extra $250.00 without being told and after not smoking in the hotel room is ridiculous and is why I will never stay at this hotel ever again. Also when I called to try to handle this entire situation I was just met with a very rude employee on the phone that told me there’s nothing I can do about it. This is not a hotel I would recommend staying at.

Staff is helpful and friendly. The hotel needs some changes. No rooms have bathtubs. Instead there is an unusual shower arrangement that takes some practice. And you cannot turn on the water unless you are in the shower and ready to get hit by it. One grab bar that cant be reached if youre wrestling with the strange and unnecessary shower thingy. You will pay $12.95 to use WiFi - for each device you want to use - unless you are a member of Marriotts loyalty club. Bed was hard, lumpy and the sheet was fitted only on three corners. No restaurant on site although one is in the works. No valet parking at the moment. Instead you drive yourself across the street into a city garage and pay the hotel $30. Garage parking fees in Charleston are not that high. It could be a lovely, gracious hotel. Maybe its still a work in progress.

The man working the valet parking was very nice and informative. The employees working behind the check-in desk were very nice and also very informative. After checking in I moved my vehicle to the parking garage across the street, I was having a problem with my access code but received help from the man working in the booth (he was a grumpy one lol). Parking is tight do I went up a couple of decks and found an end spot. Our room was at the end of the hall on the 5th floor. After getting to it I was happy, it was away from any hall traffic. The room along with the bathroom was big and spacious. The beds were comfortable but the pillows could have been bigger. Our room was 501 it overlook Society St on one side an the parking garage on the other, ask for an end room its big. Overall I had a good experience and enjoyed staying here.

Not pleased with my stay here whatsoever. The hotel was almost $400 per night. For $50 more, I should have just booked The Dewberry.I’m a loyal Marriott member (I have status with Marriott) and my stay here is abhorrent - to the point I am looking to see what other hotels have availability still. We checked in and immediately were presented with a few issues:1) There is no valet parking. Self parking is $30/night.2) There are NO guest services. They will not clean your room. You have to call down for towel changes.3) The walls are THIN. I could hear every word of people having conversations in the hallways, as well as neighboring rooms.4) The lights flicker with any movement. Your door opening/closing. A neighbors door opening/closing.5) Housekeeping is walking around with masks being worn incorrectly - only covering their mouths, not their nose. For the quality and lack of service this room should be at most $150 - I’ve stayed in nicer Holiday Inns.

Great location but the overall stay at the hotel was somewhat disappointing. Stayed here for a couple of days to celebrate my birthday. Check-in was prompt but the associates fell short in going above and beyond to make our stay a more memorable one considering the fact that the team knew about the special celebration when the reservation was made. Although not expected, most Marriott hotels would have prepared an amenity or a card especially for a Titanium Elite member as a little gesture. In addition, there were rooms for improvements in terms of cleanliness and condition of the room i.e. hole on bed sheet, hair on multiple surfaces, pill on the bathroom floor and etc. were noted upon arrival. Housekeeping service was not offered during our stay due to Covid, but available upon request.Paper thin walls...the housekeeping staff was talking on the phone so loudly right outside our room and making loud noises while cleaning the room next door which interrupted our rest one of the mornings. Will probably not return for future stays.

My wife and I were on a road trip to Hilton Head Island and decided to stay one night in Charleston before going on to HHI. We have been to Charleston before and just did not have enough time to get our fill of history, food and Southern charm. On our past trip 4 years ago we stayed outside the historic district but were determined to stay inside on our next visit. We chose to stay a the Renaissance Historic District on this trip and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The hotel is definately up scale and centrally located so it is within walking distance to all the sights and restaurants within the town. The staff was excellent and very friendly. We will definately return to the Charleston, hopefully with more time. When we do we will stay at the Renaissance. I recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Charleston.

My daughter and I traveled to Charleston for a 3-day mini-vacation and had a very positive experience at the Renaissance. The hotel is attractive and in a very convenient location relative to the historic district, with excellent restaurants and bars within a 5-10 minute walk. All the hotel staff were great, we received helpful recommendations on tours and restaurants and excellent service overall. Our suite was roomy and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to others.

Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel is a wonderful hotel that has it all and everything that you could want in a stay. I really like the art and modern designs inside as it is totally different from just about any other space in Charleston. The staff here is amazing and anticipates your needs before you have them. This place is very well run and does what it takes to provide an excellent experience. I recommend the Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel if you are looking for the best stay available.

A beautiful hotel with a great location just off King and close walking distance for most everything in the historic area. Workout room is well equipped and has two Peloton bikes ....bring your shoes. They also have a great bar and fantastic staff to grab a well deserved adult beverage after your long day of exploring .

The hotel has a cool vibe and style and is a perfect location for exploring downtown Charleston. If you aren’t going to be in the room much, it’s a great choice. But the thin walls/door make it less of a destination for a relaxing stay. As a platinum, I received early check in and late checkout, but no Suite Night Award upgrade, or upgraded room. No lounge, so they offer points or breakfast in the restaurant which I took advantage of. No host stand in the restaurant which did make it awkward to figure out how to get a table since the staff was busy when I arrived. Every one on staff I interacted was very friendly.

My old college girlfriends and I went to Charleston this last weekend to celebrate turning 40 and our long-time friendship. This was our first stay at Rennaissance Marriot and we had a fabulous stay! The staff from the front desk, to the cleaning service, to the bell men were extremely hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable. They took time out each day to see how we were doing, offered suggestions, gave directions, and welcomed us back each time we returned from an outing. Our room was clean, spacious, and fun. We loved the eclectic decor of the hotel, the complimentary water and bikes, and the free dum dums each day (so did our kids we we came home). The hotel is a good balance of lively fun and quiet relaxation. We honestly cannot wait to come back next year!

Off to a great. Beginning. Easy to pull in, friendly valets, lovely unstuffy staff all very warm and welcoming. A beverage ritual in the afternoon, in our case, Charleston mules. A funky flair throughout from the entrance to the wall decor to the room. We had a bathroom decorated with bunnies. All the amenities. Felt vibrant and exciting! Nice cozy bar. Bikes for rent.

Not ever being to Charleston or seeing the hotel we were pleasantly surprised. The staff went out of their way to help and accommodate my party. We were a large group flying in at different times. The hotel made sure that people’s names were on rooms so everyone could get in somewhere. They were so friendly and accommodating. From checking on the room payments to sending up an air mattress late in the evening. It was all greatly appreciated and made for a wonderful bachelorette party for my cousin!! Thank you!!

My wife and I celebrated our 50th anniversary the week end we stayed at the Renaissance, the stay was very enjoyable because the staff made every effort to make us feel welcome. I was a little disappointed with the room upgrade we received. There was a small balcony but the room was smallish BUT it was very comfortable. Your staff is wonderful, interacting with guests and answering questions about Charleston and the area. Thanks, we had a wonderful time and very much appreciated the anniversary gifts.

As a Marriott Gold Elite member, the Renaissance Charleston exceeded my expectations AND experience in every way. The staff was knowledgeable, cheerful and helpful! The overall accommodations were updated, modern, clean and comfortable. The location is spectacular and the cost is reasonable. This grounded a wonderful girls trip celebrating my mothers 75th birthday. I will recommend this property to everyone!

Short version: Saw 2 rooms that were cleaned but they were disgusting so we left and didnt actually stay. The front desk was not apologetic and said - ok, well refund you and we left to find a cute Airbnb nearby and was the best decision.Long version:We booked for a long weekend Thursday night to Sunday night for our elopement weekend since COVID took our original plans away. We found this hotel based on reviews and the fact that my husband is a Bonvoy loyalty member - and a very high level one too (Consultant that traveled almost every week!) We called a week in advance to ask for an upgraded room since we would be getting married and wanted to request a bigger room. They said all the rooms were booked up, which was fine. So we get there Thursday around 5:30pm and check-in. The doorman/bell hop was super friendly and really helpful - he was probably the best part of our stay.We unloaded our car at the hotel and parked (at a really scary parking lot across the street - its $30/night with in/out privileges) and made our way to our room. We walked down these carpeted hallways - which is such a pain to roll suitcases - I never understand why hotels use carpeted hallways... anyways. Our first room was a typical regular room. We had a cake with us that we wanted to put in the fridge and when we opened the fridge, there were 3 takeout boxes of food in the fridge and it smelled so bad. The smell of old food wafted through the room so my husband called the front desk and then I went to put some other stuff down and saw hair in the table.. gross! They sent us to another room and this one might have been worse? There were 2 large brownish stains that were on the comforter - just right on top in broad daylight. AND there were crumbs on the couch. DEAD. A$$. SERIOUS. like at least brush the crumbs onto the floor? LOLAfter this, we were like - F this. They clearly dont care about cleanliness or have a checklist. Like even without COVID, this wouldve been a problem, but its even more of a problem because it left me with very little confidence that someone had thoroughly cleaned and sanitized this room. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.My husband walked down to the front desk to tell them that we were leaving due to the rooms being unclean and they just said - OK. its as if they had expected this or knew this would be happening because they made zero effort to make us feel welcome or to keep us there to stay. Lets just say were never staying at this hotel again - with or without COVID and we will definitely be telling all our friends and family to stay elsewhere when in Charleston.
