This is an unsolicited review that Im sure will surprise the staff & management. A WONDERFUL gym! Whenever I, personally, had a concern to share, the management was receptive by listening and assisting in a very positive way. Staff member Tommy Nguyen, always greeted members at the front desk with quick greeting illustrating a smile (even with his full-time mask on)! The new General Manager, Denise Martinez, came into a position that was in need of immediate supervision and she is demonstrating to be a hard working and caring professional. And lastly, Alicia Campbell (Regional Manager) is a personable, sensitive and effective professional who carries an effortless sincerity to making sure the gym is working properly and safely! Recently I witnessed Ms. Campbell working diligently to make sure that all tv monitors on the exercise equipment were working properly. For nearly a month when the new treadmills were installed, the sound was on the monitors was not working. For weeks I was being told its being fixed. Well, it took the Regional Manager to solve the problem in less then 5 minutes, while talking to me. Thats good management! This location is pretty far from my home but so worth the 45 min drive, the staff here has always been so helpful and amazing. Just not comfortable at my home gym anymore since they changed management, they wouldnt even freeze my package when I had brain surgery. I love this location though, and all the staff. 🙂

It will do. I’ve been to PF’s all around the country. These guys do what they’re suppose to do. They’re friendly, open, have decent equipment, and free weights up to 70lbs. If you travel a lot, it’s the best way to get a workout in on the road.

I have been a member of PF on both West coast and East coast...I wish there was one in every city...the prices are reasonable..the employees have always been polite and helpful...and being a Black Card Holder..the massage room is Awesome...I truly feel PF is the best workout Franchise in America ❤

The machines are not properly maintained. They need to clean out the dirt from the cable mechanisms and lubricate them properly. When youre going through the full range of motion, its not a consistent amount of resistance, you hit certain spots where it there is significantly more resistance. You can feel the grindiness thereof.

First time joining a gym at 58 yrs old and way out of shape. The staff and most of the patrons have been so friendly when one needs help or has a question. It truly is a judgement free zone. There are so many options to get in a great workout. Did I mention the hydromassage table, the massage chairs, the total body enhancement booth? Im hooked. Planet Fitness at Citadel Mall made it easy.

Lots if machines & friendly staff. Only major for my family is the bathroom. They have a family style bathroom which is PERFECT for people with disabilities who cant use the regular bathroom, but they closed it off to members. It creates problems for us & a few other special needs families, so we use another gym more frequently.

Everything started great until I had to cancel my subscription. I had to leave the US urgently and now the only way to stop the membership is by sending them a handwritten letter! It seems that the internet is not a thing for this business. Be aware in case you might want to stop going to their gym.

I am used to going to the Planet Fitness in North Charleston and Summerville and was expecting the same cleansingness as the other two at the West Ashley location. Like most I have a full time job and prefer to go to the gym and the morning then leave for work! The womans bathroom was beyond disturbing, mildew and mold were in the showers and the locker room/ dress area was disgusting. With COVID, I expected better sanitation.Thw gym overall equipments didnt look sanitary, Needless to say I will not be going back? I will take the extra drive to go to go somewhere else!

Safe and easy to access. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. Equipment is clean and well situated to prevent crowding, very spacious.

Planet Fitness at Citadel Mall in West Ashley Is one of my favorite Planet Fitness locations and a convenient place to get a quality workout in. They have plenty of parking and space available to move around. I like all of the features that this location has to offer and have had a good experience every time I have been here.

This location does a fantastic job of cleaning to keep everyone safe. Treadmills, eclipticals, and bikes are marked every-other so to maintain social distancing too. Employees are friendly and helpful.Ive seen a lot of 1 star reviews, and mostly it seems to be folks who fail to read the contract before they sign up. But for $10 a month and a once a year $39 fee I think its a great price for a clean gym in a convenient location.

I love using their massage chairs after I workout on the elliptical!

Its slowly getting worse. When it rains they have to put out 5 different buckets to catch the water. They have 4 machines right now you cant use because of water.

My first concern as always is if any PF has the particular arc trainer model I like (the one without the handles) and this location does! The arc trainer I use is calibrated really well to get that nice high step, working quads and core. This location is not particularly fancy, has an air conditioning leak or something, locker room is a bit small, showers are very basic, it can get a bit crowded, and there’s a ‘bro culture’ excess of testosterone vibe that isn’t really my focus. What it has working in it’s favor is location (the mall is convenient), a lot of equipment and black card perks, everyone is super chill and respectful, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. My home gym is in NYC and my fees and everything are frozen, but the account is still very active and Charleston has been very understanding and accommodating. I think if they know you are a good a decent person or put off that energy and come to focus on your routine and not cause trouble or be some crazed egomaniac then the PFs here are willing to help. I think that’s a reflection of the general culture and I love that. Plenty of cleaning stations, a recycle bin, everyone maintains there own space and does their own thing and I love that. Again, not particularly fancy, but what it lacks in fancy it makes up with personality and character. Cool PF! 👍

PF is one of the cleanest gyms I have ever been in, and I have been going to gyms since 1983. The staff is friendly, I see them cleaning, and the equipment is kept up. I feel very comfortable working out there, even with COVID. They stepped up their game even more, if that is possible. Keep up the great work!

Many people not wearing masks or wiping down equipment. Some didn’t even have a mask with them. Planet fitness has plenty of sanitary stations after you are done with equipment, but the problem is getting people to actually use it. I wish they enforced the mask requirement more strictly as written all over the gym.

Great work out I had in a long time.

It is super safe, Covid clean and the most friendly staff. I am pleased with the cleanliness protocol. The machines are readily available and wiped down before and after every use. The UV Red light therapy, tanning bed and other massage beds are always open when I request them. Above all, the staff is kind, sincere, personable, and helpful! What more could you ask for? Thank you!Note, Covid policy is that all members & staff wear masks while working out, wipe down machines before and after use along with social distancing signs throughout the facility. I feel super safe working out here as for its not crowded and very Covid friendly. I appreciate this company doing the safe thing for all its members, so we can get out of the house and a better body.

Yesterday was my first visit was not happy at all with the staff and their professionalism . I walked in an asked for help with the planet fitness app like signing in an basic problems I was having with logging in . The woman that was sitting on the counter instead of standing facing me said she doesn’t use the app and couldn’t help me this definitely left a bad taste in my mouth but I still went in and worked out . Then I thought about it while exercising customer retention was the purpose of getting me in the door so now that I’m here you keep a customer by showing good customer service. I am not happy with my experience and contemplating canceling this membership and going to golds gym or title I think their staff is more friendly and helpful . Today will be my second day at planet fitness I still haven’t gotten a tour of the place by any staff and like I said the woman last night (7/13/19) was not friendly or helpful she made me wanna cancel then .

The pf location is just OK. Anytime there is a leak, they just put a bucket down. Last time we went, there were about 10 buckets throughout the gym. There was even a huge puddle all over one of the treadmills, but all they did was put out a cone. Kind of ridiculous after a period of time. Weight area gets very cramped. It would be so much better if there were mirrors in the different workout rooms. Not a terrible location, but I think they could do better.

I enjoyed taking stretching classes from Chris before the pandemic so it was nice that he greeted me on my first day back to PF

I’ve been impressed with the staff and their willingness to engage members and impress upon them the urgency of the mask policy despite the obvious correlation between youth and inability to wear a mask or wear it properly. The staff has a tough balancing act between pleasing members and enforcing state mandates.That off my chest I have to commend Charles who went above and beyond to help me find my lost ear bud. Those things are not cheap and he literally dismantled the stairmaster it fell into. We were ultimately unsuccessful and looks like the stairmaster won that battle but Charles won the war in terms of customer service. The dude never grumbled or seemed put out in the least and I had to finally call off the search because I think he wouldn’t have quit!Anyway, thanks Charles, you’re awesome!James V- Johns Island

Clean, friendly helpful staff, never too crowded.

Gym and equipment are good. Unfortunately staff does not police the 30 minute workout room. Trying to get a workout in with people sitting on machines for 10 to 15 minutes and not changing stations when the light turns is frustrating to say the least. It happens every day. There needs to be better signage inside the room that this is not a private workout room, it is specific for the 30 minute workout. The staff also needs to be more proactive in stopping this behavior.

Have been going to this gym for a couple years now. Bre, Tommy, Annie, Andrew, Ariel, and Vivian are great examples of positive customer facing employees. They are attentive, helpful, full of information, and normally they have a smile of their faces. (Beauforts location could learn a thing or two from this team)

This gym is not crowded at the times I visit, although I am not there at typical peak usage times, The staff (and members) clean the equipment thoroughly.

We recently signed up as a family because we were sold on the Teen Summer Challenge for one of my sons. They said it would convert to a $5 a month membership after the end of August. Went in today and was told rudely by the staff that we missed the window, and now would have to sign him up under a regular membership. This was only our second visit to the gym. When ask how I could get this fixed, the assistant manager behind the desk said, you can call corporate, but they probably wont help you. Really, why would you sour new customers on your business, when you gave out bad information to begin with? I will call corporate tomorrow to see if they are any better at customer service. UPDATE: After contacting corporate, they were able to authorize our local club to give us an in-kind offer. So we are now satisfied as customers. Update again: just found out that they double billed us one account. So instead of paying for four people like I should, I am paying for five. When told at the location, they say call corporate. The local people are not empowered to do anything after they hook you and get your bank account info. Terrible business. I would avoid at all cost.

I enjoy this gym. Reasonably priced and the black card membership is great because I love the hydro massage bed and nice massage chairs; helps keep me from being sore. The third shift male staff person is exceptionally helpful and I always look forward to working out overnight.

Went to the gym and had a good workout, however the place needs a good cleaning. The locker room is much to be desired. Its a filthy area, the showers are really dirty. There is only three shower stalls. I looked inside the 1st one and no way would I step in there even with sandals on my feet. Looked at the 2nd one and someone is shedding hair. I chose the 3rd one because was handicap and cleaner than the others. Then there is no privacy coming out the shower. The planet fitness in Connecticut is so much cleaner and has privacy curtains. I also have to travel 20 minutes to get there. They need one on James island.

Love this gym, Front desk Is the Best!!! Very Welcoming every morning at 5:30 a.m. Helpful and engaged to every customer that checks in or out. Attitude of staff sets the first and lasting impression. The gym including showers are clean and always well stocked. Loved the Halloween mask / decorations.

Ive been a member of Planet Fitness for almost six months and overall, Ive enjoyed my experience. The equipment is in good working order; and if equipment is out of service its only for a short time. The gym is up to date and very clean. In addition, there are classes available Monday-Friday for those that enjoy group activities. The gym offers massage chairs and HydroMassage Beds as well as tanning beds and other services.I dont have any major complaints about the staff. The staff is mostly pleasant, but Cecil is truly the standout! I can easily see why he earned the Assistant Manager title (congrats again!). Cecil is dedicated to providing great customer service and is always willing to answer any questions that you may have regarding the use of equipment or your account. Hes really a hardworking, gem of a guy and deserves Employee of the Year!In conclusion, if you are looking for a gym that is affordable, clean and with decent perks, try Planet Fitness. I dont think youd be disappointed.

This is a great, clean, gym. I receive at least one promotional email a week from Planet Fitness. PF is quick to advertise an app, or some new way to get in touch. Yesterday I showed up and the location was closed until further notice, likely due to hurricane Dorian. Yes, Charleston is on evacuation, but other business in town have, at the very least, a working voicemail message letting them know a location will be closed. Most businesses have stayed open. Ill change my review if PF can show the same level of communication in their advertisements as they do to let me know theyre closed until further notice.

Everyone is so friendly there,both the staff and others that go there. The atmosphere is clean and inviting. They have so much to offer for little.

People are always very friendly and I never have trouble getting to the equipment I want to use. The place smells completely clean; no bad odor. Even though they might not have every piece of equipment under the Sun, there is plenty of variety. The only thing I would ask them to improve is the mens showers.

Likes: Trainer Chris is outstanding, Gym and locker rooms are kept clean.Dislikes: Removed soap from mens showers (seriously?) & no shower hook on middle shower in mens locker room for about a year (why?).

Be careful, they lie and tell you that the fee they charge of $39 is just that, a fee to offset the amazing bargain.Then they hit up up annually and are unable to do a thing about helping you get it refunded,Pure bait and switch!!!“They have a policy “ where it’s non refundable and who cares about the personal financial issues of the person asking for a refund.Lots of judgement here, manger really could care less that I was lied to about the initial fee last year or that I’m not working right now.An amazing business model!!

I never thought Id transition well to working out indoors; I tend to enjoy outdoor activities best. But there are so many reasons I love planet fitness. There is a great selection of equipment and multiples of the most popular machines so I always can use what I want. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I look forward to seeing them each day. And when I finish my workout, I can relax on the hydromassage table as a special treat. I love planet fitness.

Clean and well stocked

Signed up 3 years ago and went maybe 3 times. BUYER BEWARE!! Waited for a notification about annual fee so I could cancel, but didn’t know until posted on a Sunday. Cancelled on Monday and spoke to GM who absolutely refused to refund annual fee. This is obviously how they make their money.

You cant beat the $10 and $20 membership fees. Staff are generally friendly. There is adequate equipment and space for a good workout. Equipment is fairly new and well-maintained. Personal training and classes are available if that is your thing. The only downside is that this super-cheap membership does not come with childcare. I will be leaving for that reason only. Otherwise, the gym is great and has all you need for a good workout. And you cant beat the price.

Today at Planet fitness. The staff is now threatening me with cancellation of my membership. These are not nice people. They target you because you have brought up concerns while they allow others to simply do what they want regardless of the rules. We should feel safe in an environment, yet because you bring up concerns they start threatening you. It was the trainer today at Planet Fitness that was threatening. I believe his name is Chris.I sent emails today to David Card, Director of Operations, and to the Regional Manager describing the situation and how this should not happen to anyone.Stair masters remain broken now going on 9 weeks! the staff cannot even keep up with the hand sanitizers. One has been broken for over a month. I guess the arts are with the stair master parts. Several Treadmills down. Stay Away! go do your new years resolution at a place that values you and does not THREATEN you.

One of the best planet fitnesses I have ever been to and I have been to several not only the state but country wide. It’s Always Clean which is a big plus and the staff is super friendly. I recommend PF To everyone who is on the market for a great gym.

This place just wants to get you wrapped up into a contract. That’s all they care about. I went in and wanted to pay by cash or credit card for my membership and they refused. They said the only way I would be allowed to use their gym was if I gave them my bank account info so they could automatically draft my account. They actually let me walk out when I was trying to sign up for the premium account. On top of that, there was a credit card machine on the counter right in front of me.I have to say I was excited to try this place. I have gone to another gym for the last 3 yrs. I was very disappointed.Oh well, I’m sure some other gym would love to have my $$.

I always feel energized when I walk in this Planet Fitness. The other members have been respectful and overall the facility is very clean. The staff is helpful and nice too. Given the low monthly fee, I really cannot complain! Thank you!

I have done 2 classes with Sean now. The most rewarding was the PF360. He encouraged me during the whole class, along with the other participants and told us good job. He showed the class modified ways to use the equipment to ensure our safety and to prevent injury. He explained the complete class & demonstrated all the moves before we started. He is very knowledgeable and, definitely, what I call a people person. If you have not taken one of his class, I suggest you try one. I am sure you will find it a rewarding experience. I plan on signing on for more of his classes. Thank you, Sean, for all your encouraging words and guidance.

Ditto times 10 (what the people right below me said)..but in all fairness these gyms are designed to operate with little business aptitude, the Walmart of the fitness business so to speak. People at the desk can be frustrating but the entire system is poor, why should I have to wait while they sign someone up to buy a drink?The trainers are subpar but again in all fairness if they were any good they wouldnt work at planet fitness. Also Im surprised at how many freelance trainers are using the place to train clients and the staff ignores it.Honestly I doubt anything will change, if the owner knew how to address these issues they wouldnt exist in the first placeTheres much better places to train I would shop around....

I have been to several PF in the Charleston area, all great establishments. What stood out most to me about this particular location was the assistant manager, Cecil. He was very helpful, and quite the comedian. (Who does not love to laugh). Not to mention knowledgeable and dedicated to his work. It speaks volume when you are able to build report with customers. Highly recommended.

Specific information, on website, concerning any holiday hours would be helpful rather than stating for example, New Years Day might effect these hours.

Total crooks. The manager says there is nothing they can do about refunds. While So, you can try calling PF headquarters, but they will say it is at the club’s discretion. So, someone isn’t telling the truth here. Or both.If you like getting the run around as part of your cardio then definitely you should join.

Where to begin, the staff is extremely friendly and make sure that everything is taken care of. The equipment is new and on top of that the facility is huge. Cleanliness is 11/10, if you are in the area this is the spot.

Great place to work out! Lots of equipment to choose from... the HydroMassage bed is awesome... staff is friendly and helpful. They also offer massage chairs and tanning beds. Its great to work out in a judgement free zone... its clean and well kept... and I like the esthetics of the purple equipment, lights, etc. They offer a lot for just $22 a month. Its a great deal.

I went in to sign up around 6 pm today and ended up walking out. The young lady who is sitting behind the counter was very rude and unprofessional. I think her name started with a V or something as the name tag was not clearly displayed. I was simply inquiring about a military discounts and if planet fitness had any, as I’m a Retired veteran who served 26 years in the navy. She told me she didn’t know. I asked if she could find out. The young lady went off on me saying she didn’t think so and that she was to busy to find out. She really didn’t look that busy but she seem to be in a bad mood which the military discount would not have deterred me from signing up but the attitude is what caused me to forget about it so I decided to go to Gold’s gym instead.
