These guys have been tops! I signed up for a 6-month service contract after their first visit for only a +$20 up charge. Both techs were top notched and helped me sort out operating challenges with both my 10-yr old furnace & AC compressor, all within the contract fee, which will extend their useful life and delay costly replacement. Back office support re scheduling and follow up are too-notch, too. Highly recommend!

Tom came on Sunday on a emergency weekend service call. He did a great job snaking and unclogging our kitchen sink. He was very professional in walking me through details on what has caused the clog, service he plans to perform to unclog and what I need to pay attention in the future. Extremely impressed with the caliber of professionalism exhibited by Service Specialties Inc. I received same day service on a morning call with a full explanation of anticipated charges. The responding technician, Clint, was very proficient, methodical, and polite. He quickly found the problem and restored my heat pump to full functionality. Tom checked for a leak but couldn’t see where the exact leak was coming from because the leak had stopped. He suggested I buy a new faucet because he could see where leaking had taken place in the past and the faucet was over 11 years old.

Scheduling was online and easy. I received a day prior confirmation of the appointment. The day of I received a text with a picture of my technician and notification of when he was arriving, which was during the appointment window.The technician was was polite and masked and up on booties prior to entering. He was very efficient, cleaned up, and reviewed everything he did. He also made recommendations for more efficient settings.Overall, an efficient and effective service.

I needed a leaky valve replaced and an inspection of the rest of the plumbing in the house per my service contract. The gentleman who came out was polite fixed the repair promptly. He was very courteous even when he had to crawl to get to get into the space where the water heater was.

When I had my home plumbing inspection in May, one of the suggestions was to replace my front hose bib (which was the original from 1996) which I opted to do. Ben arrived on time, completed the work in a very timely manner, and explained what to purchase at Home Depot/Lowes to fix the drywall hole in my garage. I decided not to go with any bandaid repairs and replace the unit. I had a prior opinion but feel this Company is more reputable and truthful. The new install is scheduled in 1 week.

The scheduler told me that they could do a heat check up even though I use oil. When the technician showed up, he told me that they did not do oil heaters. So I did not use them. I had already gotten an AC check up for the year and was interested in a maintenance agreement for both systems.

I had an emergency with a main drain backup and sewage coming into a bathtub on a Saturday. After contacting the SSI dispatch team, Tom came from SSI EXACTLY as promised, within one hour. He explained over the phone before coming out what the costs were likely going to be and he reviewed with me what the dispatcher had recorded as far as what the problem was. Spot on ! I am so impressed with the dispatcher as well! Upon arrival, Tom evaluated the situation, told me what he was going to do, what to expect and was extremely professional from beginning to end. Tom vacuumed up the extra water in my furnace room from the water backup and shared a few tips with me regarding drain care and what to flush and not flush down a toilet and garbage disposal. SSI has always been my most trusted heating/air conditioning service provider as they are trustworthy and honest. Specifically Clint B. who provides outstanding customer service as he takes the time to evaluate and ensure that work is performed thoroughly and accurately and supported by evidence such as measurements against standards that he fully describes so that the customer understands their systems--whether it is operating at expected or below standards. For this service call, I called SSI since my previous service provider that I also had an existing contract asserted that I need to replace my compressor on one system and another system have a leak and initially requires a leak detection test in order to determine which part may need to be replaced--and this system is only 2-years old! Since the parts were all under warranty, the only cost is labor which may go up to $5,000 per my service provider. I was completely flabbergasted and immediately called SSI to help and provide a 2nd opinion. SSI immediately scheduled me the next day and I requested for Clint. To make a long story short, Clint conducted an extensive assessment and evaluation and found no issues with the compressor and does not need to be replace and is performing well; and the other system, he added refrigerant to which my other service provider indicated he also added refrigerant but did not say how much. Clint recommended to defer the leak detection since he now has the measurements and baseline to measure against changes to which the other service provider did not show any measurement results. Accordingly, this saves me thousands of $$$ and am very glad with SSI for their continued support of their customer, most especially being honest and trustworthy.

SSI is a great business. I’ve been using them since we bought our home in 2018. Their contract rates are reasonable and they do great work. The technicians are professional and knowledgeable and never try to up-sell unneeded services. They try to have to same technician come each time so building relationships is important to SSI. Tom Terrell replaced (5) faucets, (3) toilet flappers and (1) shower cartridge. He did it in one day and was very thorough explaining what he had performed during the installation and why. Ask for Tom Terrell, you will be in great hands.

Issue I had: I broke a plastic piece which ran from the pipe in the floor to the base of the toilet tank. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the equipment to repair myself and had to call for a plumber (after hours service).Positives:1. Plumber was polite and came within 1 hour from my call2. Plumber fixed my issueNegatives:1. Cost to fix was outrageous- $350 (cost of after hour service included). Job took less than 1 hour. That’s after receiving a discount after I signed up for service.2. Plumber stated he would recommend that I replace all of my toilets due to age (15 yes) even though they still look brand new. Said he would recommend replacing each for $650+ (best brand). Sent me estimates for several other options as well.3. Showed me where the water in the toilet tank was overflowing and therefore I was wasting water. Don’t recall having that issue before he arrived. Note, after he left, I adjusted the valve and the water stopped overflowing. Felt as though he could have made that quick adjustment himself, but instead tried to use that to build a case for me to replace my toilets.I’ve been a long time customer of SSI for HVAC, but would not recommend them for plumbing services.

I have been meaning to write this for a while now, but I just wanted to give a shout out to Tom Terrel and all of his plumbing expertise! The previous owners of our home were what we like to call “DIYers” from the plumbing to the HVAC systems. Tom originally came out to give us our first annual inspection and found a lot of things during it that could have led to major problems. Can’t recommend this place. SSI did my HVAC service for years and did a great job. When my system finally died I asked them to replace it. Big mistake. Apparently the owner had sold it to his son, who now runs the business like a typical MBA. The unit they installed never worked right, couldn’t be serviced, and I eventually ended ripping it out after five years.

Joe was super friendly and super fast!!! And, our AC works again…yay.

I called SSI as our AC wasn’t cooperating. Although I was told that the next day (a Friday) was looking pretty full already and we’d probably need to wait till Monday to have a technician come, Joe was able to make it Friday evening. He checked our systems and everything looked ok. He explained to us that sometimes the newer thermostats can be kind of glitchy, and let us know what to do if it seems like the AC can’t keep up again. We’ve used this company for HVAC and plumbing, and they’re honest, quick and super helpful!

The installer of my furnace made a big mistake, which involved numerous calls to get rectified. The second fellow on the job was looking at his phone whenever I checked progress. He drove away with my parking pass, which, despite my repeated calls, SSI has not returned (cost to me: $30). Management said I would receive a $50 gift card for my hassles; instead they sent a $50-off coupon for future work. Sorry, SSI, you will not be coming back to my house!

We chose Service Specialties, Inc. to replace the water line connecting Fairfax County water to our home in Springfield. This company was highly recommended (4.7 out of 5) in Best Pick Reports, Fairfax County 2021 Spring Edition. Everyone representing SSI, from Kylene Bartalos, Customer Service Manager, to the estimators, to the men actually performing the work were extremely professional, responsive, patient, and thorough. The line replacement crew were especially careful not to disturb our landscaping, even when the excavator was brought up close to the house in order to dig down to the water connection site. We were frankly amazed at the precision and delicacy with which the excavator was handled in digging right next to our house. This job involved what is referred to as trenchless replacement, where the new water line (copper) is fed through the old, then connected to the homes main water line. We would rate the crew a solid 12 out of 10 if we could, and would recommend this company to repair any water line or sewer problem!

It took me a couple months to write this review due to the needs of my special needs baby and medical emergencies so my apologies for the lateness.I have worked with a lot of AC and Heating companies and these guys are as professional as they come. At the time of my dealings they were the best deal for the value. My home is about 20 years old when one of my AC units was not working and is beyond the worth of repairing. My second unit was on it last leg. I decided to bit the bullet and replace both AC units and heading units for my home. I reached out to 10 companies (small businesses and large). Only three companies was able to respond immediately (ACE, SSI and McCrea). After about 5 days other companies responded and some did not respond at all. Thinking about the needs for my special needs baby and wanting to replace the units ASAP its not good for companies to delay in responding. None of the companies works over the weekends but I worked with the companies that took the time to respond to my weekend emails not that it was a requirement but it showed that they wanted my business. Of the 6 companies I reviewed for quotes SSI was the best value for the buck after comparing models and visiting the respecting companies website for specifications. My consultant Chris was a real down to earth guy and conversations was very pleasant. Chris gave me good tips on the workings of the AC and heating units I had currently in my home and options to consider when buying/replacement units. He also did not assume he would get the contract to replace the units. But still offered tips on what to look for if I decided to use another company and make sure they do this or that when replacing the unit. I thought that was nice he freely offered those tips. Keep in mind I have AC-heating, and electrical degree background. I never revealed that detail up until this posting. Both McCrea and SSI was my last two options but SSI was the best value by far over the two businesses for my case.About the install:The time for the installation of both AC units and both furnaces took one day. SSI was very good in covering work areas over carpeted and hardwood areas. Trash and removal of units was clean and no damages to walls etc. The SSI team consisted of two 2-man teams Brandon, Dan, Reid, and Eric. All of these guys was cool to chat with and was very professional and had no issue with me hovering over them and asking questions. Keep in mind I have an AC/heating, and electrical trade background from years back and this was not revealed to them. They were very friendly in responding to all my questions and said they did not mind at all me asking and hovering around. The work done on the units was one of the best I have seen as far as neatest and installation. They made sure all connections were secure from the ducts, pipes, electrical, neat and tired up. Nothing loose or out of place. I took some pics to post of the units installed but I am unable to post them here. I had also mention this a few times to the guys during the installation process and to Chris about the excellent workmanship. Know this that you might find a company that is cheap to perform the installation and/or units but if your installation is not good you will pay out of your pocket in the long run for a bad installation. That said I lucked out for the best value for the buck and a perfect installation. No issues so far since the installation completed a couple months ago.Look at the attached pics for both the AC and Heating units. Well placed and neat. Nothing in the way even when they had to reroute my humidifier. Excellent work!Inspection:Inspector came and reviewed the installation and asked me who did the installation? Really he did so I said SSI. He said these guys did an excellent job at the installation.Will I recommend these guys to anyone else? You bet I will!!!!!Great job guys!!

The technicians Eddie and Brandon of SSI arrived on time and completed the project flawlessly. All flooring was covered with tarps and they cleaned up at the end of the installation. The old system was hauled away and you would not know that they were even in the home. They were both extremely courteous and respectful during the installation project. We had a new air conditioner, humidifier, furnace, hot water heater. The service from Chris Leach to all the installers was exceptional. We did update them that the Federal government was offering a rebate (25c) til the end of 2020 for qualifying equipment. So far on day one good job. Now to become familiar with the smart thermostats.
