I cancelled my membership back in Feb 2020 and was told it would be processed. However, i was just charged another monthly fee on my account! Not only do they make it IMPOSSIBLE to cancel, but this gym has no A/C, broken machines, and gives you the bare minimum from a gym. There are no redeeming qualities. Go somewhere else.

They make it EXTREMELY difficult to cancel your membership. I probably spend upwards of 5 hours attempting to call and email people to cancel the membership (I moved out of the area). They also continued to charge several of my friends for ~4 months despite cancelling their memberships in writing back in May of 2020. The individuals are still dealing with their banks regarding the issue today. If you understand this before signing up and are fine with it, the gym might be right for you. The facilities are fine/ sufficient. Just know cancelling your membership will end up being a second job. I never write reviews, but I went out of my way to write this one.

Another tale of bad business practices and getting mistreated during cancellation. At the beginning of covid I request my membership be put in the inactive category. It was. But they chose to reactivate it without my permission and didnt tell me when, nor did they tell me when they reopened and started charging membership fees again. And yes, I receive emails from them, so I know they have the right email addres. Grr.

The location is great, the rest is average for a city gym and gets the job done. My reason for 2 stars is that most the TVs on the elliptical machines either have remotes that do not work, or are not connected and most of the TVs do not have many working channels and most are static. For a extra $99 a year fee you think they would hook up the amenities properly. 2 of the elliptical also shake when you use them.

Picture it. You wake up at 5am, get dressed. Everything packed and ready for your day the night before. You take the train from ashmont to central to get to the gym on time. Off the subway you walk up to street level, turn the corner to see the BSC storefront dim, locked, with a group of people waiting outside in the February rain. It’s a full hour after they were supposed to be open, and you have to be to work in an hour, still have to shower at least. What do you do? There’s not enough time to get home before work. Before you join, you’d be wise to consider and develop contingency plans. This gym is run by a group of people who act like bored nigh school seniors. The lack of professionalism is apparent from the poorly maintained equipment to the cleaning staff face timing in the shower areas they’re supposed to be maintaining to the lack of dependability and reliability. Know what you’re getting into when you sign that contract!

They have all of the equipment necessary, and its never over crowded. With the right instructor (Great spin instructor), the classes can be worthwhile, however not all instructors are created equally. There is not enough variety in class times for me though. There is either early morning, or after work hours, with the exception of a noon spin class. The locker room is large, plenty of showers, a steam, and sauna room. Bathroom stalls are clean. The steam room is usable, but not the best. Im really not confident in how well they clean it. Same with the showers. I think the cleaners just throw some lipstick on it, and call it a day. The sauna seems fine. Always bring your own shampoo etc. Their shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all body was poured into different bottles. Its been that way for the past year. I use this gym because its convenient, they have the machines I like to use, and you cant beat the price; thats the end goal. I recommend it under those conditions.

Theyve got all the equipment there and is a pretty popular gym but the mens locker room is the reason for 3 stars. A lot of the lockers are broken and the majority of the showers have something wrong with them (e.g. heads are broken, drains clogged, poorly maintained, etc). Ive been coming here for 6 months and tolerated it because I thought that was normal but now I know its not.The people are all so very nice and understanding (the fitness classes are good too), but the turnover time of things getting fixed is slow.

Relative to the price, the gym is excellent value. Its large and has a wide variety of equipment. Some of it may be old but its maintained to still be very well useable. Patrons are a good mix of young and old, muscle hunks and beer bellies, the gorgeous and the ugly. ;) Today the steam room was out of order but the sign indicating the specific spare part they are waiting for to be replaced inspired trust. The Finnish sauna was good and also a nice social experience.I found a good offer for a 30 day guest pass online; note that its not sold in the gym. I can see where complaints about poor service are coming from - the receptionist was really friendly with a regular but therefore made me wait while chatting away with him. It wasnt a big deal but it could have annoyed anyone in a rush. I guess good service needs to be earned here! :)

UPDATE TO MY ORIGINAL REVIEW: This company is abusive, DO NOT open a membership there. I cannot believe I am still having to deal with their crap.I got a membership there knowing that I could cancel when I moved. After moving, I called to let them know, and they played dumb and said they could not find my account, so they said Your account must be cancelled already. I trusted that.Got charged next month. Called again, and said, well, we dont know what happened, we have no idea who you talked to, and you need to provide 30 days notice and proof of a new lease. So I emailed them the lease and got WRITTEN CONFIRMATION that my membership had been cancelled. Two months later I realize I was charged TWICE AFTER MY MEMBERSHIP HAD BEEN CANCELLED. I filed chargebacks with my bank and they were shocked after reading the email confirmation that I was still being charged. They agreed it was unfair, and thank god for that.To my utter surprise, I just got a letter from a credit collection agency billing me for the amount that was charged back from the company. This is utterly abusive! I have gone above and beyond with this company to get them to cancel my policy and just leave me alone, and they insist on charging me. I have never sustained this level of abuse from any company.ORIGINAL REVIEW: One star because I cannot give it less than that. They are the most incompetent group of people I have ever encountered. I have attempted to cancel my membership for months now, and I am still being charged despite the repeated assurance by at least 3 employees (including assurance in writing) that I would not be charged any further. I am talking 4 or 5 months worth of charges. Just unbelievable.

Decent gym with great sauna and steaming room. The reason why I rated 1 Star is that it is so frustrating to cancel the membership with charge of $10. Manager says in order to cancel the membership you need to request 45 days before when you are going to cancel and she will say that I told you during the process of sign up, which she did not. If that was the case I told her I am singing up for only 2 months. I could have requested cancelation during that sign up time. So, i get charged $69.99 for annual fee, $10 cancelation fee, $25 the month that I am not going to be use the gym because of the 45 days before request thing. Basically Cash Cow Gym.I would like to let the owner know this is not only with me but it is happening with many of us. I have read some rates on yelp as well as here, and basically majority of the complaints are about fees. This means that customer service is ZERO.

Decent gym. I pay $19.99, so its a good deal. Punching bags. Two aerobics rooms that are hardly ever used it seems. Decent amount of space. Everyone seems pretty nice there and they have a full array of equipment. Never seems too crowded.

Below average gym with above average sauna. the downside is that it is very hard to cancel, and they charge you $10 to cancel your membership. When I emailed Krystina, the manager, to set up my account, she replied within hours. When I emailed her to cancel, it took her 3 days to reply that I would have to wait *another* 45 days to cancel. In general, I would go to the Y in central, just up the street. The Y has better equipment and was much easier to cancel. They dont even charge you to *stop* going to their gym.... haha... in general, a bit of a ripoff, but a decent gym if youre in a pinch.

I enrolled in BSC in September last year but was travelling a lot and only used the gym for two months. I have been ripped off by the club, first, by getting over charged and then having them deduct fees from me monthly as well. The manager Krystyna said she will give me a month free of charge and freeze my account, however, I still got charged. It’s very hard to get out of a contract here! Best if you enroll in another gym!So far I havent been able to get any refund. I have contacted the club and member services at Town Spirts International. I am still waiting to get a refund.I was enrolled at another sports club the YMCA in the Boston area but joined this just because it was near to where I lived. If you want to get ripped off and get unhelpful customer service this is the place. The gym itself isnt big and its in a basement. There is also a 45 day notice for cancellation for which they ask you to pay $25. Not sure why they require 45 days to let someone go while when they want members it takes 5 minutes to set up their account

BSC Central Square is inexpensive, and you get what you pay for. After switching to BSC, I eventually stopped going to the gym because of how bad the experience was. For someone who used to regularly go to the gym, I pay to want to work out, not for my gym to give me another excuse to skip exercising. The interior is extremely small, which means there often isnt enough equipment to go around. I ended up having to change my routine up every day based on what was available, or waiting a few minutes because benches and equipment are always in use. If you use weights and would like a spotter, watch your head since you have to duck under treadmills to get behind the benches. The locker rooms were my least favorite part about this location. Other BSC locations have nice locker rooms, but Central Square is gross. The bathroom floor is constantly flooded with a river of old shower water. This is because the showers dont have doors—instead they have dinky curtains that barely close and cut off at mid-thigh. The shower water pushes the curtain out, and all the water drains into the hallway. Have fun walking through the puddles if you want to use the sauna.A good number of the lockers have doors so broken that they were falling off their hinges. One time I locked the locker, but for good measure tugged on the door. To my surprise, the entire door opened, with my lock locked on the outside. All this aside, the staff are very friendly and its the cheapest gym in Central Square. Just be sure not to pay full price — there are always promotions going on for a $25/month membership, but they wont offer you that immediately if you go in saying youre signing up.

I switched to this gym from Healthworks in Porter where Id been a member for five years. I live just a few blocks away and can walk here, and while the BSC definitely feels run-down and the weights are crowded during peak times and the equipment is frequently broken or dangerous-looking and the AC doesnt really work and the management seems to not care about anything, I got a deal... $20/month forever! Healthworks had absolutely terrible management as well, and it was appalling how little they cared about often dangerous conditions, given how much they charge ($80-$120/month). If theres gonna be pathetic customer service, at least Im not paying much for it! Ayyy.Ive also been a member briefly a few times at VIM in Central, and while the facility seems much nicer, its gotten very expensive. The killer is that the VIM under HMart is totally un-usable to me due to the air fresheners they pump through the facility. The air quality is extremely poor, and I go there to... you know... be healthy and breathe hard. For some reason the City allows HMarts cooking exhaust to go into VIM (??) so youre inhaling carbon monoxide, food particles, and toxic air freshener if you go there... be warned! So, BSC it is for now...Anyway. The BSC could really use more benches given how many people lift here. The cardio area is pretty unusable not really due to anything thats BSCs fault, its all the dudes sweating while wearing toxic cologne. Hold your breath going past that locker room for sure! One other thing: joined BSC at the beginning of June, and the steam room has been broken since then (Its now August 3). Hoping that will be fixed by winter because if I cant get my post-training steam on in the cold, thatll be the end of this affair. :)

The steam room frequently has to be repaired. The staff if very personable there; however, the management team can be unresponsive to inquiries. Management of membership rates and billing is poor. The gym has charged me late fees on multiple occasions due to their automatic billing not working properly through the website.
