Visit the stranding center on our yearly visit to Brigantine. Its such a wonderful organization that relies on our donations to do their rescuing of stranded, injured marine mammals. Stop in and see what they do. Its a great feeling to donate and purchase products to assist in their endeavors.

I called them after hours at night because I saw a Harbour seal who didnt look good to me. I sent his pic to the center and they said he looks OK. I was relieved to know the little guy was ok.

Loved the intern who gave us the tour of the museum with a lot of interesting facts. You can buy t-shirts, sweatshirts, jewelry, bag, etc. to support the center which does such good work for all the mammals who need rescuing.

They had three injured seals they were caring for. They were very thorough explaining the injuries, how they care for them, and how they cannot be released back into the ocean until theyve gained at least 50 lbs. Very informative but best to visit during spring and summer months when the weather is nice.

This place does a really nice job of rehabilitation of injured animals. They shared some pictures of their most recent success. Three seals were recently released. They will were all juveniles bit by young sharks. They bite them but they cant eat the whole seal. They get away with injuries

Upon arrival we were greeted at the door by a female staff member (who happened to be part founder/owner of the center) & welcomed us inside the museum area where we watched a video about the operation of the Stranding Center. This group receives no funding from the State of NJ nor any monies from the Municipalities who rely on & contact the Ctr to retrieve mammals stranded on their Beaches or shorelines (1800 miles of it). They depend strictly on donations from visitors or those who are lovers of the mammals of our waters. Great work is done here by the founders/volunteers who rescue these creatures in their time of need from feeding & caring for them during their rehabilitation phases...an ICU & Pool House (similar to Physical Therapy) until their time of release back into the water. Unfortunately those two areas are off limits to the public however you do get to see them on the video. This is a “must-see” stop on your next trip to NJ. You can donate to their cause or Adopt a Seal to help out. Truly a remarkable facility.

Full Disclosure!!! This is a one room place. You can learn about mammals but it all takes place in a room. You can see the animals that are being taken care of from a tv in the room. Then you can go outside and look at the daily catch in the observation tank. This can all be done in less that 15 minutes. So dont go all the way here to just do this. Now if you plan on going to the beach or do some shopping then definitely stop in. The shop is really nice and they have nice souvenirs.
