We were on a 2 1/2 week trip through the West when our 1997 Eurovan’s water pump decided it had had enough going over Vail Pass. After a quick search of our options, we had it towed from Copper Mountain to Boulder based on the reviews I had read. And thank the stars we did!! We left it there late at night, dropped the key in the door slot, left a voicemail and waited to talk to them in the morning. To make a long story short, they sourced the part we needed (Verner’s seems to be connected with suppliers who others on the area might not be) and replaced the water pump in one day!! On top of that, they wanted to replace the serpentine belt at the last second “just to be safe”. I had one with me, but it was the wrong one. So they traded mine for theirs and we were back on the road in a little over 24 hours. The service was one thing, but the group of people there is another. Just top notch, great people. Cannot recommend these guys enough.
I drove to Golden from Detroit to help my son move. I broke down in Golden 300yds from his house. Verner’s was swamped with work and told me that they couldn’t get to it for 2 weeks. This meant I needed to drive back to Detroit in an old car of my son’s and then fly back to drive my Vanagon home... whenever.... Verner’s surprised me by fixing it in 2 days so I could drive back as originally planned!! Good people doing good work. Thank you Verner’s!
Verner has given trusted care to my 2004 Touareg for well over 10 years. Sometimes not an easy task. It recently developed a big problem which he could fix but let me know other issues are possibly looming in the not distant future for this old vehicle. I greatly appreciated his honesty, not simply doing the expensive currently needed repair and having me back in with a different significant problem within in a short time and wondering when to stop putting money into this car. Sometimes you just need to give up on an old vehicle. Even though he knew I very much wanted to keep this one for a few more years, he did not push the repair or even suggest it. Simply let me know what it would take and his concern for other systems. Thanks for the many years of great service.
Verner is a vanagon whisper. Anytime Im on the front range with repair needs, Verners is the best. (91 westy)
Ive been using Verners for years. They have been such a great mechanic for my 2012 VW Tiguan. Every time something goes wrong with my car, I bring it right to Verner - he knows how to fix it. They do everything they can to get my car back to me as soon as possible - I usually need the car by the afternoons to pick up my kids & they make it happen. I wouldnt take my VW anywhere else.
Called shop for advise and Verner went out of his way help me and guide me with mechanical info on a Vanagon. Felt like I finally talked to someone I could trust and knew what they were talking about. Highly recommend!
Finding someone you trust with your car is extremely rare, especially as a woman! Verner and his daughter are amazing, and I cant recommend them enough! They always go the extra mile & are lovely people as well.
These people are outstanding. The best. Honest. Reliable. Friendly. Great service. More than 5 stars-10! Go!!
Ive gone to Verners for years for various cars, and have been very happy with their service. They are kind, honest, knowledgeable and the service comes at a fair value. I highly recommend them for VW vehicles.
Verner’s Automotive Service is the best mechanic for the Eurovan. A sweet family owned business that goes above and beyond to get the job done. I would recommend Verners to friends, family and strangers —couldn’t be happier with the attention my Van was given in their care. Will be back for all my vans future needs.
We came to Verners with an overheated engine. luckily he had just taken a 2.1L engine out from a vanagon for a subaru conversion. so the whole replacement was done in 3 days. the new engine is doing a great job so far. the only thing we had to do, was to tighten the fan belt, because it was making a screeching noise when we started the engine.thanks so much for the new engine.
These Folks r very polite
My best-ever experience with a mechanic. Knows and loves VWs and recognized the problem that 2 other mechanics had missed. Pleasant, patient, kind, reasonable. Could not have been happier with my experience there.
I have been going to Verner for about 8 years to take care of my 2001 Beetle. I truly can ONLY say FABULOUS things about him and his shop. He and his team clearly care about cars and the people who own them.Hes straight-up and kind. I never feel like he is tacking on unnecessary expenses -- the opposite is my experience: He always offers less expensive alternatives that keep me safe and my car running but also save money. In the VW community out here hes well known as the place you go with your VW for good service and a mechanic you can trust.
Terrible experience with this mechanic. I brought my vanagon in to have the windshield washer nozzles replaced and oil changed. I also asked if there was anything else they would recommend. They called me and told me the oil plug was stripped and needed to be replaced. This seemed strange to me becuase the van had zero oil leaks and the previous two mechanics that changed the oil didnt mention any issues after getting the oil changed. Verner replaced the plug but didnt have time to replace the windshield washer nozzles. What? That was the reason I made an appointment and brought the van to them... I went to pick up the van and they charged me an extra $75 for a inspection of the vehicle. They never told me there was an inspection fee... The other mechanics I use dont charge for advise if Im already getting something fixed. I get home and my van started leaking oil! I brought it back to Verner to fix the leak and to get the windshield washer nozzles fixed. He said sometimes they dont get the tape to seal on the oil plug so he would fix it. When I went to pick up the van, again, they said they didnt have time to fix the windshield washer nozzles. My van still has an oil leak! After two trips to this shop I ended up paying hundreds of dollars for them to give my van an oil leak and not fix the problem I originally brought it in for. I am extremely frustrated with this place and I do not recommend them!
Was fighting an issue with my 86 Westys charging system for over a month. After doing all I could within my own ability and having little success, I gave Verner a call. He got me in the next morning and had my van back up and running within a few hours. He really knows his stuff, and only works with facts. No speculation, no guessing. He breathes these vans and I was very impressed with his professionalism, knowledge, and turn around time. I hope I never have to see him again, but if my vanagon ever has future issues, hell be the first I call. Thanks Verner!
Verner always goes above and beyond for his costumers, and had for me many times! Only place I trust in Boulder for automotive repair. ESPECIALLY with Volkswagens. Highly recommend!
Love this shop. Ive had work done here on multiply vehicles over the last two decades and have been consistently pleased with the workmanship and cost. Verner is a pleasure to work with has consistently impressed me with his judgment and integrity. Highly recommend.
Verners is the best!!
Honest and fair, and they know Volkswagen inside and out! Highly recommended
Verner is awesome. I was 80k miles on my car and thought i needed brakes. He offered for me to come by and take a look before we scheduled services and turns out they are basically brand new. Ive never wanted to have a service done more. Ill be bringing my car here from now on :)
Verners is the best. Ive been going there since the 1980s and couldnt ask for a better experience. Very knowledgeable, trustworthy, and helpful. I will always stick with Volkswagens so that I can stick with Verners.
Pulled in for some quick advice on an issue and the man at the front desk came out and helped us right away.
Ive been using Verners since 1999 for my VW Vans and cant say enough about their expertise, honesty, fair pricing and accurate diagnoses. They always stand by their work and have gone above and beyond to address any concerns I may have ever had. Just had them put a Subaru engine in my Syncro and am blown away with their engine conversion!
Verners did an awesome job bringing an 05 Jetta back from near extinction. Great diagnosis, proper solutions; under-promised and over-delivered. Fair price, great value and courteous service. No better place to take a VW/Audi product.
Verner’s is the best. Very good service, very fair pricing, and friendly folks.Totally straightforward and honest. We’ve appreciated Verner and Co. for many years.
Best place in town.... Best place ever! Verner and his team have the best customer service, period. After getting pretty terrible customer service and certainly less than ideal work done at other shops around town, Verners rescued me. Hes worked on my 1980 Vanagon and my 2012 Jetta. Theyve done quality work every time and have been friendly, personable, and provided great customer service. All that and an incredibly modest price. Id pay twice as much to have them work on my vehicles. Thanks so much for the great work and wonderful experiences. Ill be using Verners for as long as I live in Colorado.
Verners has taken care of me and my Jetta for years. Always honest, fair, and considerate. He offers rides to and from my work.I cant recommend Verners enough. I would give him and his garage 6 stars if I could.
Ive been taking my 99 TDI Golf to Verners for 10 years now, and have always been completely satisfied with both the quality of services and the prices. Verner and Tim have been consistently helpful, giving me good advice and dependable service. Ive been pleasantly surprised several times by bills that have come in lower than what I would have expected, and standard services like timing belt changes are priced competitively vs the dealership. Ive never had an inkling that I was getting anything other than a square deal. Its a weight off my mind to know I have a mechanic I can count on.
Verners is the best! Ive been going to them with my VW and now Audi for 8 years. They are honest, personable, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. Verner knows me by name and treats me like family. They are extremely accommodating too. Highly recommend them!
Put simply, Verner and staff know what they are doing. Consider my situation: my Passat had obvious (automatic) transmission problems (slipping, no shifting, no response to accelerator), so the factory authorized mechanics I took it to found multiple gear faults, noted that they could not rebuild it, and quoted the needed new transmission at $7200. (Also 3 weeks to acquire it.) I took it to Verner and he (1) found an obvious leak (transmission pan seal), and (2) tested by topping up with transmission fluid, driving the vehicle and finding that it shifted perfectly. Verners found the *root cause* of the problem -- and serviced the transmission (new filter and other interior parts, pan gasket, bolts and new correct-spec ATF). For less than 10% of the expert-recommended fix Verner returned my vehicle to great working order -- and that *included* a much-needed engine tune-up (plugs, filters, etc.)! Honest. Friendly. And knowledgeable!
September 2017 I was on my first roadtrip With my Eurovan 1994, from Quebec up to Utah. They found the problem of a horrible and stressful fuel smell and fixed it, plus another one, on my transmission which would have been critical along the way...! So grateful, for all their prompt and great help to get JeFF The West and I, back on the road again.Oh and Boulder was a GREAT place to be “stuck” :)
My parents worked with Verner for years and years with all of their vehicles. He is meticulous, honest, always gave them a full explanation for any and all work recommended or done. All around a great guy and a great shop!Since my fathers passing, Verner has been great with providing detailed records for the sale of each of the vehicles, has been willing to answer any questions and genuinely helpful!
I called for a quote on my eurovan 6/25/18 to have a head gasket and timing chain done (all needed was Labor since I bought the parts and I wanted to do it as preventative maintenance) He came back with a miniumum $3,500 in labor and said it never be lower than that anwhere. That is approx 35hrs and after a quick search I found it should be 15-20 (exactly what his mechanic told me the day before when I called).. Low and behold I called Wolfsberg autowerks in Boulder and got an honest quote of 15-20 hrs for the work and approx. $1500-2000. Reasonable. I have not used Verners but after this I would highly recommend calling around the VW specialists and verify that you are getting honest work done. Maybe he thought I was dumb or was having a bad day and didnt want to work on a eurovan. Just be aware when going here. I am sure they do good work. But at what cost...
Verner is super helpful, asks the right questions and gets the job done as planned with no surprises.
Verner is great! He spent time with me going over what might the problem with a fuse blowing in my Vw Bug. I am 60 and his business reminds me what Boulder was like in the 60s. I miss places like this!
I want to say that Verner and his staff do an excellent job and Luke, one of his technicians, did an amazing job on my Volkswagen DOKA transporter that I imported from Europe. Many extensive repairs were needed and some were not typical of the US vanagons and Verner and Luke were able to identify the correct parts and service needed for this European model. This is my daily driver and its a blast thanks to Verner and his crew.NEW REVIEW 02 OCT 2018: (Approximately 1 year later) 5 stars!!Once again Verner and his staff (especially Luke) have done an amazing job on my 1989 16 Euorpean T3 DOKA Transporter / vanagon. I had Verner replace the entire suspension on my Double cab 16 VW truck. All bushings front and rear, shocks, tie-rod ends, ball joints etc... The truck rides great! Not only did they do another fantastic job, but their attention to detail with the specific requirements to my European 16 truck were handled and taken care of in an expert manner. And if that wasnt enough, they identified a serious problem with my fuel system that could have been catastrophic and could have burned my vehicle to the ground, which was also repaired. With all that said, Verners Automotive also has the best shop rate that I have found here along the front range with the best service and repair. This is truly the best service and repair shop for the money! I have never had to go back or have issues with any of the repairs that I have requested.
Verners is the best! They always take great care of my VW. The service is friendly, prompt, and reliable. Verner and Tim take the time to explain maintenance and repair issues, and are extremely thorough. The prices are fair, and always seem reasonable. Ive taken my vehicle to several shops in town, and Verners is by far the best! They are now the only place I take my VW for all its needs.
Verner and his staff have been servicing my VW for 10 years now. They have always been honest, competent and just a pleasure to work with.
Our 1982 VW Vanagon broke down (for the 3rd time on our roadtrip) in Boulder, CO. Verners shop was the only one who showed me kindness when I called. He told me they were busy but if I didnt find another shop he said he would do his best to fit us in. We couldnt find another place and so I called him back and he agreed to check out the van in the morning. He was very understanding of our situation and knew we needed to get home. It was very comforting seeing all the Vanagons in the parking lot! When we brought in the van, the problem was located and fixed within 4 hours. We were able to get right on the road and head home! We are so thankful for Verners shop and the services they provided! I would highly recommend going!
VW experts. Professional, accommodating, thorough, honest, and fair. Thanks Verner
Quirky, but in a great VW enthusiast way. Always friendly, honest and knowledgable.
I have been bringing my passat wagon here for years and am very happy with the service.
Fair and honest. Always great customer service.
My 1988 VW Vanagon needed some repairs done and the place where I got my tires rotated recommended Verners and Im so glad they did. They replaced my entire rear brake system, replaced 2 cv joints and axles, and identified many issues that I was unaware of, mostly various leaks. Verner walked me through every issue and helped me understand what needed to be done and why. He was very accommodating to my travel schedule and took great care of me and my Vanagon. He even made me some mix cds to add to my cd collection! Great, honest, knowledgable shop.
I have been taking my 2002 TDI to Verners since I moved to CO in 2008. I drive from Evergreen to get my TDI serviced here, and its well worth it. Each and every time these guys take care of me at about 1/2 the price of the dealer. Its great finding a mechanic I can trust that cares about my car more than I do.! Thanks Verner and Tim
Good prices and they take great care of your car. Most repair shops in Boulder seem to put profit first, and they do that by selling you a ton of stuff you dont really need. Verner just works on Audi and VW, so they know those brands well. If you have too much money go to the VW dealer, otherwise go here.
Verner and staff are great and their service is outstanding! My poor 2002 passat needed LOTS of repairs due to my lack of wanting to take it to another mechanic due to cost and trust.Thank goodness for Verner ! He and the staff made sure it was safe to drive and at a fair cost. Compared to previous estimates and work I have had done they are the most efficient and fairly priced. I can definitely say I trust them with my passat. I drove from Fort Collins to Verners and I am happy I did because they got my car in good shape.Verner and staff are always willing to answer questions and are very helpful. You can tell they love what they do and care about the people and the cars that come in.Thank You Verner and team !
The only one I trust with my classic VolksWagon Bus. I have tried others but no one is as consistent or know VolksWagons like Verner!
I love Verner and Tim and the crew. They have been servicing my V Dubs since 2002. Always honest. My TDI and Eurovan and bay window bus always purred, and when they ticked or clicked Verners made it right. After selling the bus and husband totaling the TDI I knew I had to get another VW so I dont have to change hairdressers, I mean, mechanics.
Someone said in a positive review that these guys know Audi. NO, THEY DO NOT. Do not trust your type 44, type C4 or B5 to these guys, it is beyond them. Later Audi models (2002 and beyond) are even more complex, and you can find a nice discussion of good Audi independent shops in the regional forum section of Audizine dot Com. Start there if you have an Audi. Dont take your Audi here. _________These folks arent out and out dishonest, and they try hard, thats nice and I appreciate their efforts. They know aircooled VW, but its always disconcerting to find tools left behind in your engine bay. Maybe the tecs are smoking too much meds? __________Heres the deal, air cooled VWs arent tough to work on yourself. If you dont have time or the patience to learn, you CAN take your aircooled VW here. Youll end up with some new tools, a fairly decent job and a bill thats slightly higher than other places, but also less than some. But you may have to double check their work as well. Not even close to 5 stars, more like 2, which is what I give them, as they were the inspiration for me to start working on my 79 camper myself, after numerous almost fixed experiences, which resulted in many return trips. __________Thanks for the two metric wrenches, the screwdrivers and other bits including metric sockets that I inherited from you guys! (all of which were left in my engine bay in the 79) Im just happy nothing got into the belts! ___________And Ive even now graduated to wrenching on my B5 S4 avant thanks to these guys (and their failings), so I owe them a beer, but not another star! ___________READ the other 2 star review by a google user especially the last half and you will get a great idea of how things work at Verners. A corroded ground strap is mechanics 101, basic stuff, and that customer even diagnosed it based upon a hunch that the problem was electrical . . bummer for that customer, and an easy DIY fix yourself, but if these guys cant get it right, when a no-nothing client is on the right track, that should tell you something. . . .go there, but be aware if you do.
Verner and his crew have been helping me threw a full restoration on my 79 Westfalia for the past couple months. I had to stop in to say how patient and helpful Verner and his guys have been during this time. Doing a full restoration is no easy task and can be a real pain in the butt. Verner has returned all my phone calls, emails, and answered countless of my novice questions even on his days off. My project is not the normal make a buck off a bad alternator, restoration takes detail and expertise which Verner guys have. These guys no what they are doing. Verner has always been fair on the cost of repairs. Im no easy customer probably one of toughest to deal with as i am very particular about the quality of parts and the work needing to be done to bring my 30 plus year old bus back to show room and I trust Verner to do it right.
Same day rescue after my Vanagon got stranded from a loose CV joint. Awesome, honest service!
Went in after my check engine light came on, after a few hours I was told that I needed a new turbo (even though it had been replaced less than five thousand miles ago) with the estimate of parts and labor totaling around $3000. I told them no thanks and that i would just take my car back. I was hit with a $150 bill after they did nothing. A day later a different shop discovered that the turbo hose had come loose and fixed it it 5 minutes free of charge.
Called these guys as a stranded motorist and got a one week lead time to look at my car. Tech on the phone was rude. Avoid these guys at all costs.
