I’ve been climbing here for a little over a year. The staff are very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The facility is really fun, clean and safe. They set new routes very consistently. I recommend High Point to all of my friends.

Clean facility with a decent amount of top rope stations and high walls. I love that there are separate bouldering and kids areas so that everyone has their space and climbs safe. My only complaint is how the top ropes are set up. Some of them are very difficult or even impossible to take slack out of as the climber ascends and difficult to lower the climber when finished. We gave up on a few routes because it was just too much work trying to belay. My workout should come from the climb not belaying my partner.

High Point is the best climbing gym in Birmingham. Their facility is world class and they have everything you could ever want as a beginner, or an advanced climber. Moon board, boulder, ropes, lead climbing, a full gym, spray wall, hang boards, and campus board. They have it all! This gym is a wonderful place and is set up well for kids, climbers, and people who just want to have a fun afternoon trying something new. I cannot recommend this facility enough. If you spend any time traveling around south east, they also have locations all over which you can climb at if you have a membership.

Clean, well-kept, well staffed; kids room, cardio room, weights room, circuit walls, bouldering, pull up bars, and stretching space. This gym literally has it all, although because of that it sometimes gets a little crowded :-). 5 out of 5, would recommend!

This place is awesome for adults and kids. You can pay by the day or you can do a monthly membership. They have walls up to 55 feet high. They have an aerobic workout room, they have a weightlifting room. They have yoga classes and a sauna. The only thing missing is something to eat and a smoothie bar. Your on 280 so you could take a break for a minute and anything that tickles your fancy is practically within a 5 minutes drive.

Beware draconian belay certification rules. It was my first time here. Its bee a while. Me: Id like to get checked out to belay, but I need a few minutes to review, Gym: No, you have to do it when you first get here. We dont want you to review then come take the test. My girlfriend needed some pointers from me. Gym: No, you cant talk before the test because that would consititute instruction. And only our instructors can teach Me: ok, can we go outside and talk about belay before we take the testAside from all of that: it was a nice climbing gym. ~6 auto belay top ropes. A good kids climbing area with auto belay.

A really great climbing gym overall, but with a few faults. The first thing was that the website needs to be better formatted, especially the classes section of it. The second thing is you have to be 14 to go into the bouldering area. I love bouldering, but I couldnt go in room and only had the small wall in the kids room. The third thing is that when I called, I ended up spending over an hour on the phone with multiple workers who provided contradictory information from each other. Eventually, I talked to Logan, and I figured out what I needed to know and ended up coming with a group and on autobelays. The kids area is great. The skyscrapers are fun, and all of the small games on the wall are great. I spent a couple of hours on the timed wall, and after some great tips from some of the staff, I got my time down to 5.09 seconds. The main room was one of the best climbing area I have ever seen. The ratings on the walls helped me know what ratings I could climb outdoors. It was one of the greatest climbing experiences.

Never knew this place existed. Great place for beginners and expert climbers alike. Has weight room, auto belay walls. Walls that require someone to belay and free climb walls. Plus great tumbling area. And really fun kid zone. Definitely a place to go. And great way to get in shape.

High Point is one of three rock climbing gym and the only top rope gym in Birmingham, which is why it is so sad that their systems pose a safety risk for kids. The biggest thing that bothers me about this gym is their use of tightened adult harnesses on children. Kids have a higher center of gravity and most kids under five/under 80 lbs should be in full body harnesses so they don’t flip upside down. I’ve seen so many small children in adult harnesses with the extra material flapping around or tucked in. Every other gym I’ve been to has appropriately sized full body harnesses to rent out for the kids. Come on High Point! As all the posters say, climbing is inherently dangerous. This means that you should take every precaution to mitigate the risk.Otherwise, the top rope setting is decent but there can be a wide variation in grades that can get frustrating when trying to train using a pyramid approach. The bouldering setting is a strength workout. I don’t find many of the boulder problems fun to do and there aren’t many if any technique focused problems at any point; they’re all big move and pull yourself up the wall strength problems. This doesn’t bother me much, though, because I’m not a big boulderer.

Great place to climb, especially when the weather is unfavorable. The routes are changed periodically, which allows new challenges for regular members. I typically climb and boulder on natural rock, so I cant say I fully agree with all of the difficulty rankings, but the staff do a great job setting up a wide variety of routes and boulder problems. I wish that members had an option to bring in whoever they want for a guest pass, but guest passes can only be used for an individual who has never been to the gym.

Was excited to see a climbing gym of this caliber in the south, but that excitement quickly faded. After filling out the waiver and paying for the day passes for myself and my brother who was new to climbing, we had to sit and wait 15 minutes just to get an orientation from the understaffed front desk which had 3 staff members that were overly split between the register, handing out rental equipment, running the store, and doing orientations. We were sad to find out at the end of the tour that half of the bouldering area was closed that day for setting (a piece of information that wouldve been great to hear before paying), so we headed to the rope room to try out the autobelays before showing my brother how to throw on a quick figure 8 and take the top-rope certification. After getting my brother on one autobelay and having him jump test it, I let him loose and proceeded to the next autobelay down the wall to warm up on a 5.7. After clipping in and giving the autobelay a quick try myself, I began climbing. Cruising up, I reached about halfway up the wall and heard a click and a low humming noise. I looked up to my dismay to see the autobelay steadily cranking out slack as I hang halfway up the wall with nothing but my hands and wit holding me to the wall. Quickly realizing what was happening, I called out to the other climbers in the room to grab a staff member or at least to find someone who knows what to do as I began to downclimb and attempt to keep my cool. To my relief, another climber hopped on the autobelay next to me, climbed up to me, and quickly offered the the safety extension of that rig for me to clip into. We then both lowered off the neighboring autobelay. Now, Im sure this is partly a testament to autobelays in general, but the fact remains that if any of the many kids hopping on the other belays--or heck even my brother who had to trust the autobelay he was on as all this went down -- if any of them had been in my place, this couldve gone differently. For that I was thankful, what I wasnt thankful for was the all-but-absent staff who had no awareness of the incident and had hardly a word to say following the incident. Between faulty equipment, poor service that just made you feel like something was off about the place, and then half of the bouldering room being closed off, its safe to say that I feel ripped off and that I wont be coming back.
